1- Installation
You have to begin with installing Java runtime on your computer. For those using Windows, Linux or Mac-OS X you can go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and choose following your OS. For those having a Mac-OS prior to X version, there is no more an up to date Java Virtual Machine.
If you have already a Java runtime on your computer, you have to check that it is at least a 1.4.0 version.
One this is downloaded and installed, you could download the Chat program:
2- Update installation
When there was a new version of Chat, you have to download it, then follow instruction depending on what you have already installed:
- if it was the .exe, you have to uninstall the previous version then install the new one (at same place than previous one such as configuration files are kept).
- if it was the .zip, you just have to uncompress the file into the same folder as for previous version.
3- Uninstall
To remove the Chat, depending on version you installed, you have to:
- if it was the .exe, uninstall it using the shorcut then destroy installation folder (this folder still has parameters file).
- if it was the .zip, you just have to remove folder were zip file was uncompressed.
To uninstall Java, please read documentation given with it.
4- Use
To be able to use Chat, you have to subscribe to forum http://www.hzforum.com because Chat use the same login and password than the one used on this forum.
Then, Chat could be used only when opened. To know this, you have to look at top of forum main page where a icon informs you on Chat state.
When it is opened, you could run program on your computer. For this, you could use the shorcut (in case you install the .exe version and .jar files are associated to Java program) or double-click on .jar file (for this, .jar files have to be associated to Java program) or double-click or launch .bat if association has not been done (in this case you need Java program to be in path) (doing .jar files association is better as this avoid having to open a command window).
When Chat starts, a connection window opens. In this window you have to enter the login and password you use on forum. You could also read help.
Once connection is established, you have the following window:
At the top of the window, you have menu that allows you configuring Chat, exiting it or getting help. Configuration is:
- choose the Internet navigator (to be able to click on link when there are some posted). For this you have to use the opening dialog box to choose your navigation program (e.g. /usr/bin/mozilla or c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe).
- choose color you want your post to be displayed.
- choose your status (some text that appears near your name into the connected people list.
Bellow on left is part where conversations are displayed. Each conversation is displayed into a window. In this example, there was three conversations: "The Word of Administrator" that is into background and into which you could not post (only Chat administrator can), "Principale" which is selected and "Iconifié" which is iconified. You could select a part of these conversions and copy it into clipboard using the Ctrl+C keys.
Bellow is the window where you could enter your message. It is send when you press the Return key and is displayed into currently selected conversation. To post a link, you should type it with the http:// or ftp:// prefix (ex: http://www.hans-zimmer.com).
In right column, conversations list is on upper part. When clicking on one element of this list, you select it (you could also directly click on corresponding window). Below is list of last posted link, such as you could easily click on them. Below is list of connected people. Then are buttons to add a smiley to your message.
All these parts could be resized using the black separators.
Your configuration (window size and size of each parts less conversation windows size, message color and navigation program) are saved when you exit. If program ends with an error, this is not saved.
If a conversation window is not on top and a new message comes, conversation title into list is followed with "nouveau message" (it disappears when you select the conversation).
If you iconify the Chat window, a new window will be opened and a beep rings when a new user or message comes (this new window is set into background to avoid disturbing you into your work). As long as you let this window open, no new signal will be emitted for following messages. If you close this window, you will get a new one on next message. If you raise the Chat, alert windows will automatically be removed.
