Right. The difference between Zimmer and many other composers (for me at least) is that you can almost immediately tell if you like a Zimmer score off the bat. DMTNT is something that needs a few listens to grow on you, and so far I'm liking what I hear.<br><br>When I heard Fantastic Beasts for the first time I was initially disappointed but after about 3 listens and hearing it in context it became my favorite score of the year. Everyone is different of course, but I feel like this score will grow on people with time.Well... as you say, Zanelli's tunes tend to be less streamlined. You can hear it in his themes for Into the West, The Pacific, Outlander (the movie) and even the Spaniards themes in OST. <br><br>Not to say Zimmer's aren't great in their own merit, but are not always the same exact approach. For everyone complaining about the mix of this album don't forget, nothing beats Curse of the Black Pearl in terms of an awful recording mix. When you have a 'synthy' sounding orchestra and bass gain distortions that actually make it to album this really isn't anything in comparison.<br><br>And I think the key difference between Zimmer and Zanelli (at least on this franchises' terms) is that most of the themes Zimmer wrote for the franchise (Davy Jones, Beckett, Kraken, pretty much all of the original tunes from the 1st one, etc.) were actually incredibly simplistic. Geoff's tunes are less streamlined. They aren't bad by any means, but it's telling when the strongest parts are the reprises of things like Hoist the Colours and Marry Me."How did they manage to make a 100 piece orchestra sound like a demo for an off the shelf sample library?"<br><br>MV/RC has existed for over two decades now and you're actually still surprised at this? XDfinal veredict?
Oh dear . Where is the theme ?Comes across very likeable and enthusiastic. Now I'm even more excited!I'm on track 9 at the moment. Nothing especially memorable so far, but I do love the return of the Love Theme and Hoist the Colors.<br><br>Salazar's theme isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it does seem to get repetative quickly. Hopefully the score isn't as blatantly bad on-screen as OST was. That film and score was a mess.Cool insight on POTC 5 !
Now that the album is out there I can easily say that I love this score. Definitely my 2nd favorite behind MoS. <br><br>Musically, much of it has that "Last Samurai/Transformers" power anthem style (with one of the themes sounding like King Arthur) but with RGW's string writing style as opposed to the bass heavy approach of those scores. The WW cello theme isn't used a whole lot, but when it gets some screen time it feels earned, and steals the show. The villain material is the weakest part, but instrumentally is pretty cool with the incorporation of the cimbalom (it reminds me slightly of Sherlock at points)<br><br>Overall, easily one of the best scores so far this year.Hans has not done this one because he was working on dunkirk at the time as far as I know. I saw the movie last night and for sure things like "What shall we die for", "One day", "Jack Sparrow", the legendary "He's a pirate" or even the bit of the musical clock/bell theme from davy jones and Calypso at the VERY end of the film are things that Hans wrote of course. In the movie itself you hear this stuff very often especially in the first hour of the movie which is packed with old themes. But Geoff Zanelli still wrote the other 60%/65% of the music so I can imagine that Hans said that they can give it to Zanelli because even if most of the themes are from Hans, he was most likely not heavily involved at the writing and scoring process. He was most likely there at the beginning of the process like Zanelli said in an interview and made sure that this story needed things like one day or the medallion calls. And he is not credited because of the fact that he was doing dunkirk and for sure his live tour and so he was like mentioned before only there at the beginning of the process and wrote/refined the new versions of one day or he's a pirate if he did anything. But i thought as well that they could have mentioned him in the credits like they mentioned Zanelly or even Steve Jablonsky in the credits of the first one or John Williams at Rogue One.I missed that, sorry! I agree with your other comment.<br><br>Jackman's contribution to the 2nd half of love suite, his rollicking orchestral mayhem in "I don't know if now is the best time" provide plenty of evidence of him imposing his style effectively on the material. <br>"Going back to ground 0" doesn't mean "make a poor movie".<br>I would like more Pirates movies, but not if they make them as bad as the 4th and 5th ones. They could have written an original story (I'm sure there are good writers out there who could have found something fresh) and started a new adventure just like the 2nd and 3rd movies did. It's not impossible.<br>But rather they just tried to remake the 1st movie. If they did it for the 5th one, why do you think they wouldn't do it for the 6th one? Judging by the post-credit scene, they are clearly not afraid of ripping off the previous movies even more... :-DHi Hans!<br><br>Your scores helped me pass through difficult times, in life.<br>Never heard music that touches me so deep inside.<br>Thanks - to you and your Team - and go on like this.<br>When do you come to Germany with your Team (live in concert)?<br><br>If you like to answer: atlantis42195@gmail.com<br>------------------------------------------<br>Hallo Hans!<br><br>Ein dickes Lob an Sie und Ihr Team.<br>Ihre Musik half mir, durch schwere Zeiten im Leben zu kommen.<br>Nie zuvor kannte ich Musik, welche mich derart berührt.<br>Wann kommen Sie wieder nach Deutschland, mit Ihrem Team?<br><br>Weiter so und beste Grüße, aus Düsseldorf!<br>Falls Sie antworten möchten:atlantis42195@gmail.com<br><br>Jill W.<br>
Yeah... I know what you mean...<br><br>First of all, I want this movie to be a fun ride. I cannot ask of it what I would ask of a Nolan production, for once. But I know I cannot ask of this movie what I would ask of a 2nd or a 3rd part. I say this because since DMTNT begins production they (producers) hinted it was the BEGINNING of a new adventure, So they had to go back to "ground 0". And is not too difficult to guess that they'd try the Star Wars formula; POTC 5 is basically Force Awakens in its intentions at the least.<br><br>So what really put me off is the fact that all this hate will only cause to not greenlit more adventures :( , because, well.. apparently audience doesn't want this dessert anymore. If that cheesy ending was "so so cool", it's just because it's a powerful reminder of how beautiful the 3rd movie was. And even more so in comparison to this dreadful 5th outing.Yeah I made a shitty suite ! :( :( :( lolLots of people complaining about the film and the score, makes me a little bit irritated. Of course this was never gonna reach the level of the first films. It never will be, it's been 10 years. I am a hugh fan of these films and after watching the new film I felt so good. That cheesy ending was actually so so cool. The movie wasn't perfect put they did some good things in it. I haven't heard this album yet but I listened to the samples and everything I wanted on this album, I did hear those parts in the samples. Afterwards I was humming that new adventure theme all day, even how unoriginal it is. It's cool and Carina's theme is a great new addition. This score is much than On Stranger Tides maybe think about that. Let this score grow on you. Most people now base their opinion on just this suite. Honestly ? It doens't reflect the score that well.I have yet to listen to the score, and I will after see the movie because I want to experience it on the movie itself first.<br><br>But if you read the very insightful interview with Zanelli for filmmusicamg, he talks about the "differences" between composers at RCP, and when Zimmer liked something of Zenelli its because, in Zimmer's words "it sounds so Geoff" (I think he was racalling it about Tia Dalma's theme and the tribal island music from DMC). So I think is kind of unfair to expect Geoff's music to sound very Zimmer's, realistically speaking. <br><br>I've been listening Zanelli's scores a few years now, and I think I Identify his style and his type os themes, which are not like Zimmer`s at all (talking about notes specifically)... so based on his scores I expect this to be a very Geoff Zanelli score leaning to POTC style and just a little of Zimmer.<br><br>You can see the differences in the OST album, just listen on what Zimmer composed and the listen the Spaniard's theme, which is by Zanelli.

Hello Hans Zimmer,

My boyfriend and i went to your concert in Forum yesterday.
My boyfriend have been a fan of you, since he was a teenager, renting your soundtracks in the public libary. He is 32 now. I gave his tickets for the show as a surprise and he had been talking about it every day for more than 2 months. He knows facts about dreams you had when you were younger, why you chose a certain tune and he has watched the thin red line at least a 1000 times, just for the music.
We came an hour early yesterday all ready and so happy. Then you began. Everyhing was wrong. The music was at least 25 % too loud. We had no chance what so ever to the seperat instruments. People were covering their ears most of the time. The light show was enough to make anyone get an epileptic seizure.
What we love about your music and you, is that you can create a universe with one sound. Yesterday was more like being at a heavy metal concert. You had no reason for the gospel singers, because you could not hear ONE word they were saying.
The last song you played, on the piano alone, was amazing. And half of the lion king and half of pirates o t c. But the rest sounded like being at copenhagen hell (a rock festival).
You have meant everything for my boyfriends musical taste. And he was so sad yesterday, because you completly shattered his idea of that.
We had to walk home instead of taking the train, because we were just so angry and had so much to talk about.

I am so so sorry about last night. I wish it had never heppened.
Regards Mille

Sehr geehrter Herr Zimmer

Pit

Currently I will be doing the music score for this short film, but the filmmakers need help with raising funds, could you help us with our crowdfunding?

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I am actually very interested into Orchestras and Scores.
I have seen tons of footage and also did some recherche how to arrange and organize an orchestra, when I suddenly stumbled about two and a half questions.

Question one:
why are string and woodwindinsruments the only ones with a static position?

Question two:
on what does it depend, that Xylophones, Drums, Pianos, Harps and sometimes Brassinstruments, vary their position?

Question two and a half:
does this depend on the acustic of a room or is there any certain specialty to define the seating?

When artists like Hans Zimmer have their staff include the disclaimer: "Please don't ask us how to contact them ( i.e: Hans or the other Remote Control composers ) either" on their Contact page -it's clear that thes artists have lost touch and respect for the people who have put them where they are today. Why even HAVE a Contact page on your website if you don't WANT fan contact? Oh wait, I get it -we're only supposed to use this Contact page to lavish praise upon Hans and his fellow ( Remote Control ) Music God composers. What was I thinking? These Music Gods wouldn't actually want to "rub elbows" with the "little people" who purchase their music ( -which allows them to make very comfortable livings for themselves ). I actually feel sad for these out of touch "stuffed-shirts".

Jana2017-02-12 19:11:58
Well said Tom, and what shall I say, you hear it in the newly compositions. Not the theme but the production outcome is bad. Hollywood is taken over, so sad ...

Andrew2017-03-02 01:27:25
Maybe it's because they were getting too many, "Hey, Hans, listen to what I wrote" kind of submissions mixed with just regular abuse of the contact page. I'm a composer and understand not wanting to allow free contact, you have only so many hours to write something incredible. On top of that, 'Hollywood' is a very friendly world of professionals who are willing to teach when the opportunity arises. Hans is doing a master class, yes he probably gets paid nicely, BUT WHAT COPOSTITION TEACHER DOESN'T? Especially world renowned. Lastly, Hans doesn't make the bulk of his money from selling OST's, he get's it from working on big budget projects. Hans is very much on board with being in contact with the public but has to have some safeguards for himself in terms of contact. Do something amazing and maybe he'll decide to "rub elbows" with you.

What is Captain Barbossas theme in Pirates of the Caribbean?

Edmund Meinerts2017-02-04 22:11:04
I don't think he ever got a specific theme - the ominous rising theme from "Fog Bound" and "Underwater March" is sort of used for Barbosa and the undead pirates, but not really enough for you to make that connection. The first Pirates score was never all that careful about what themes it used where and for whom - that sort of leitmotif approach didn't really happen until the second and especially third ones (and then was totally messed up again in the fourth, where IIRC they use a motif associated with Cutler Beckett/the EITC for "privateer Barbosa" for some bizarre reason).

I saw Hidden Figures this weekend and as a former adolescent NASA geek from the 60's I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the stories. There were only two places in the film where the music grabbed my attention. Those times were after John Glenn's lift-off as he climbed into orbit and when he had his ticker tape parade. Can you tell me, is that a snippet of Carmen Ohio I am hearing?" If so, it is a great tribute to Sen. Glenn and his love for the Buckeye State. If not, chalk it up to failing hearing and an vivid imagination.

BuckeyeinFL2017-02-01 00:15:58
I caught Carmen, Ohio too. Awesome!

MissouriBuckeye2017-02-01 21:01:21
Having been a member of the OSU Marching Band, I assure you that you did hear the first 5-6 notes of "Carmen, Ohio" (the Ohio State alma mater) during the launch sequence.

Glenn himself went to Muskingum College, about 50 miles away from Ohio State. I don't know what their alma meter is.

Dear Hans Zimmer Team:

Hello. I am a huge and serious fan of Hans Zimmer music. I am also a big fan of John Powell, the composer of scores of <The Bourne Supremacy>.

I am eager to get a "film version" of <Bim Bam Smash> the studio version of which I have. (You know, just like <Training Montage> from <Rocky 4> comes in a film version and a studio version.)

The film version of <Bim Bam Smash> is a little longer and more heart-pounding than the studio version. I could not find any tip on how to get that version after searching the whole Internet for days. I thought about extracting the score from the movie file (mp4), but the other background sound is too loud.

Any tip would be appreciated.

Dear Mr. Zimmer

Currently I’m studying 3D animation. For my degree dissertation i have to do a small 3D animated
movie. your soundtrack from the gladiator „honor him & now we are free“ would be just perfect.
I hardly can immagine another soundtrack.

Therefore I allow myself to kindly ask you if it would be possible to use them and what
would be the cost of it. there would be no commercial use! only the presentation of the film
at the school (EB, Zürich, Switzerland) which is published on youtube as well as on my homepage.

Thank you for your kindly answer as soon as possible as my project has to be ready in
April 2017 and I should start to work on it by mid of November 2016.
