I like this music!The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.
A nod to the last but brought it up to date.
This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s musici can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-

@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?

Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......

Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day.

But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score).

At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....Some of the action bits, yeah......
This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
....................

It's bigger than that.....

After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe.

Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?

Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close.

Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger.

But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.

I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes.Some cues sound like Speed 2Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lolThis right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...Everyone keep mentionning mw2 but those drums reminded me of...skylanders giants lol! Just listen to the track « Arena battle » and let me know
The clips are on his Facebook page.2/5 stars? Why are people hating on this?Me tooExcited!!!God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)
God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)"It's good shit lieutenant" The principle is based on Thomas Newman's Bond. "Take back what's ours" and "the truth" is Ad astrahonnestly, I do get why people refer to MW2, but to be honest, it's not the same. With the amount of time I heard that score, I can say that it uses the same drums, and a pattern that is quite similar to the one used in MW2, but it is not a copy/paste. It's no different to me than Junkie XL re-using the same pattern of drum in all of his recent scores since Mad Max. When it comes from the same composer, I guess it's normal to have works that parts that similar from a score to another. Just think of John Murphy who re-use his powerful theme from Sunshine in a lot of his scores (28 weeks later, kick-ass, etc).

Actually I'm quite glad he re-used the themes from Mancina as that was, to me at least, a big miss for BB2 even though Rabin and Jablonsky did a great job. It's like doing a James Bond movie without the Bond theme. It might be good, but it miss the little something that gel everything together. ;) I really like what Lorne did on this one. Even though he re-used the theme, he made them his own, in a similar way he did with MI Fallout, while sometime paying homage to the original ones. ;) My 2 cents.Not really familiar with either Mancina’s BB score or MW2, but I’m really enjoying this. It’s like an old-school MV score filtered through Lorne’s sound. The main tune (which I’m guessing is Mancina’s) is a lot of fun, particularly when paired with the choir.

And as for Ad Astra, the villain motif in “Take Back What’s Ours” sounds like it was directly lifted from the space scenes of that score.can I see the clip? is it on YouTube?

very exciting month :)

Sean reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-06 00:00:00
Well, who knows ? , maybe it will be out some time in the next few days, or a week or so from now, or maybe even at the end of this month. So technically, it could be out at any time during this month.

UGH dammit.....when is this pile of greatness gonna show up!?!?!?!
Its giving me MAJOR GASSES!

Pokenose reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-05 00:00:00
Howmuch you wanna bet Zimmer is gonna change the theme completely? Im thinking complete total overhaul

Sean reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-05 00:00:00
@Pokenose
Hans Zimmer might not of changed it too much, so that then that way the music we know from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies still sounds familiar from what we've heard from the previous three movies, meaning like the main themes used in the previous movies that will be used in this movie, although at the same time, they might of been changed just a little bit so that they don't sound like what we've already heard before in the previous movies.

Feliz Lombriz reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-05 00:00:00
@Pokenose: Sounds like there will be new themes, of course, but it's not going to be a complete 180 either:
"...Hans Zimmer has done all the new melodies, etc. There won't be any surprises musically; it's the good old HZ sound that we all love." -Thomas Bergersen

You might expect many things from POTC 1 (and their POTC 2 variations) to return... You might also expect what was a subtheme in POTC 3 to become much more important there... And of course some brand new themes for the new characters... ;)

Just sayin' ! ;)

Anonymous reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-05 00:00:00
oooh exciting

okay everybody think hard! What could this subtheme that Hybrid is hinting at possibly be?

Anonymous reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-05 00:00:00
oh and Sean

I would guess end of april for the tracklisting.

So don't hold your breath . . . . or you'll die . . . .

Prott reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-05 00:00:00
2011/04/05: I don`t know... maybe a Jack`s father`s theme? :-D

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-05 00:00:00
Is there really a theme for Teague ?? :P

Well, to spoil it a bit, it's the amazing theme finishing the "Lord Cutler Beckett" theme suite (starting at 6:11 'til the end), which is totally underused in POTC 3 (2, maybe 3 times here and there in the score...).

I can tell you it's become more significant in 4... Can't wait to hear that !! :)

A month & a half left !! :D

Hans can create lots of new themes! We need one for England, one for Spain, one for The Fountain of Youth, one for the mermaids, one for Blackbeard, one for Angelica.

I secretly hope for the return of The Black Pearl theme from potc1. Might be cool for London and the Island where Jack and Barbossa fight the Spaniards. And a cool fight theme for Jack vs Blackbeard vs Barbossa.

And! For the end credits a He's a Pirate in the length of the COTBP MOVIE VERSION (not album), in the speed and style of the DMC He's a pirate, with a main theme blast at the end like it did in AWE (also in DMC, but the one from AWE was better =) ).

The use of Rodrigo y Gabriella of course suggests more Spanish guitar styles. Roger Whittaker has done a lot with choirs (think Fountain of Youth theme of Mermaids), and two steps from hell.

Can't wait. Hopefully a soundtrack with 15 or 18 tracks.

Hybrid: Ah, interesting. Sounds like a variation on Beckett`s theme... maybe it`s now a main theme for zombies. :-)

@john
Yeah, no kidding ;) . I know that, i've just been saying what i've been saying here before, because i am wondering exactly when in April it will be released on here.

When in April 2011 will Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides soundtrack track list be released on here ???

Lorne reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-03 00:00:00
Do you think that there's a chance since lorne isn't on here its because hans asked if he could work on producing an expanded release of inception while he's busy with pirates?
just a though... doubtful, but you never know...

sean - you're totally obsessed with this tracklisting, it's kinda weird. Just relax, it'll appear when it appears!

Sean reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-03 00:00:00
No, someone on here said it would be on here sometime in April 2011, so that's why i've been saying what i've been saying on here about that, wondering when exactly in April it will released on here. You don't have to tell me that it'll appear when it appears, i already know that thank you very much ;) . I've just been wondering when exactly this month that, that will actually happen, lol :D .

john reply Replies: 0 || 2011-04-03 00:00:00

YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!I LOVE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN!!!!!!
THE SOUNDTRACK WILL BE AMAZING AS ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sean reply Replies: 0 || 2011-03-28 00:00:00
I hope that the soundtrack tracklist will be released on here in April 2011. It was mentoned to me on here in the recent past, that the soundtracks tracklist would released on here in April 2011, so i hope that turns out to actually be true. I'd love to know what the names of the songs are, on the soundtrack :) , because the names of the songs would basically tell us what to expect to see in Pirates 4, or at least "kind of" of tell us what will haooen in the movie, like with the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Ele reply Replies: 0 || 2011-03-27 00:00:00
@Max He was busy with Ironclad? Or He didn't want to be in Pirates? Or he will be there, hes just not listed?
@mannion Yeah, Thomas is on board. But he does only 10 minutes in the movie, so I even don't think his cue will be on cd. I don't know about Nick.

Zee reply Replies: 0 || 2011-03-25 00:00:00
But how can you not like Pirates 3, when Pirates 2 preceded it, while Pirates 1 built the foundations for the Pirates trilogy? How can you dislike one pirate but not the other pirates? wiothout Pirates 1 there would be no pirates 2 or pirates 3, and the music for the pirates films would be not as grand - pirates 3 was the most grandiose of all 3 movies.

therefore, in the body of three pirates films, sure you may pick your lesser favorite, but you cannot discount the majesty of all three put together.

I like em all...what can i say? I'm a friggin pirate.

Sean reply Replies: 0 || 2011-03-25 00:00:00

Yes, you made a good point there, You're right. I like them all too :) . They are great movies ! .
