Greetings! I have a question regarding the placement of certain cues. Here, "Mycroft Is Nude" is placed where it plays in the film. However, on the sheets, it's shown as being after "Paris Bombing Investigation." Was the scene originally supposed to be later in the film? I'd be curious to know.just beautifulThis is a whole new side of his music as compared to what we normally hear.Black Widow has been moved to Nov. 6th, so we'll het Balfe's sckre at the end of the year.

Mulan has been moved to July 24th.Beautiful score! Matches well with The Lion King and Whispers

It's nothing short of a masterpiece, a modern opera. The choir is beautiful, and the choice of gospel for the first track gives it a unique identity, though I'm not sure how well it meshes with the orchestra. It feels a bit off, but will hopefully improve for me on further listens.

The composition, has to me, elevated Powell to the status of the second best living composer (Williams is still first for now). It's pure orchestral beauty and mastery with variety of texture, color, and style, with seamless tonal transitions. The complexity rivals some of the great works of the past.

It's strange to me that this is called "choral works". Sure the choir is an important element, but it really should be named "Hubris Symphony", or "Hubris: The Opera", because that's the status the album deserves.

The Syndicate (Unused) (6:00)
36. Change Of Plan (Unused) (5:47)Rogue One is a bit of an odd one. From what I'd heard, Desplat had joined on the condition he'd be allowed to do his own thing and not ape Williams. But once they decided to overhaul the film, they pressured him to go that exact direction. Things stayed still for a while (in which he still got paid) before he was finally let go very late into production. So the idea he sorta just left is interesting, so I'm curious to hear what that was about.

For BW, it seems very likely to me that Marvel simply were unsure about Alexandre's music, so I'm guessing they hired Balfe to do some demos and decided from there. Who knows what the exact timeline is, but I'd wager it'd have to at least be this year if he's been on it a bit. Especially with AD's name having stayed on the posters during it.Hybrid, Desplat left Rogue One just for his own idea? I know he left that movie beacuse schedule conflict for the reshoots.
But for Black Widow seems that the replacement was since months ago with Lorne writing and recording the score at the same timeht tp:// filmmusicreporter. com/2020/04/01/ track-list-for-disneys-live-action-mulan -soundtrack-album-revealed/

Why release a tracklist for an album that won't be released for another 6 months at least. That's just a punch in the gut, in my opinionSo it won't be a last minute and hasty job?
No idea but he was on it for a bit, I think.Hybrid, do you know how long Lorne had to score?Score is recorded already.Yup, which makes me wonder if they had to wait before announcing it, considering Desplat was still being listed in posters prior to the delay.I think Lorne teased this some time ago by sending a picture of researching Russian music on insta (maybe)

Hybrid, do you know who was the cello player on this score? I am pretty sure it's not Martin Tillman. It could be a pleath I guess but would like to know for sure!

Hybrid Soldier2015-07-07 21:27:31
No idea ! No one's credited as musician... Maybe it's Ramin...

...2015-07-07 22:19:37
Ramin plays the cello? I didn't know that, awesome!

Edmund Meinerts2015-07-08 11:00:55
I always assumed it was Ramin himself, although admittedly I've never seen that confirmed anywhere, so whaddo I know. :p

Phil2015-07-08 12:45:59
probably Tina Guo?

H2O2015-07-09 00:57:23
Nope. Not Tina Guo, she just performed her own covers for the Main Theme & The Rains of Castamere. Dunno, may be it's Brandon Campbell who plays the cello.

Just listened it for the first time. I kinda like it, but I gotta listen it a couple more times. Good first impression though!

Edmund Meinerts reply Replies: 2 || 2011-06-27 18:05:29
Meh.

As a big fan of the books I have to say that Djawadi really didn't (or doesn't have the ability to) live up to the potential that this incredibly intricate storyline offers - dozens of subplots, intriguing characters, it's a really awesome story and the series did it full justice in every aspect EXCEPT for this underwhelming music.

To my ears Djawadi is one of the least impressive composers to come out from under Hans Zimmer's wing. Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rabin, Jablonsky, Mancina, Jackman, Orvarsson, Balfe, Rupert Gregson-Williams, are all much better. I wish one of them could have had this incredible opportunity.

That said, the main theme isn't actually too bad. Kind of catchy. But I hate the synthy sound of the string section and in general it's really underplayed. Thank God the series is so strong it barely even needs a score ;)

Edmund Meinerts2011-06-27 18:06:47
Oh, and Nick Glennie-Smith is better too...:p

Ds2011-06-27 21:27:01
Totally agree!! wonderful main theme but the rest is ambient music without any originality...

Ramin Djawadi is not constant, but here, i think it's a very good album with ethnic and medieval sonority...

my note : 4 of 5

It's available on iTunes now!!!

Miles2011-06-14 22:02:18
The samples sound pretty good; there's a real emotional core within the music. Nice job, RJ!

My only quibble is that something must have been up with the mixing or whatever: when it moves into the higher or lower registers, there's this static-y background harmonic, but for all I know it could be something different. It's noticable on tracks like "Goodbye Brother" and "Finale".

Bastian Nanchen2011-06-14 22:35:03
