Snyder confirmed that his cut of the film is essentially done, itís just up to WB to release it."For me, a power anthem is My Name Is Lincoln, The Launch, Now We are Free, Arrival to Earth, etc....A track that resonates with millions of people. Not just film score fans. But casual film fans as well. Look at the YouTube views for Now We Are Free and Arrival to Earth. Millions and millions of views."<br><br>Eh, by that definition The Imperial March would also be a power anthem, and I'd question that (to put it lightly). I don't think popularity has much to do with a definition of a type of music really. Rather I'd say a power anthem is a bold, muscular, relatively simple and often rock/pop-influenced theme that builds up and gets bigger and bigger over time, the prototype being Hans Zimmer's theme from Crimson Tide. And Balfe has written plenty of them. Whether they're good or not is something that can be debated, but e.g. the opening track of PR:U definitely fits the criteria of a power anthem for me.Power Anthems!!!!!! Is this the 1980s again!!!im the first to love a great tune but we are in another decade now.<br><br>Talking of tunes , Balfes best is still Ohís Theme from Home.Balfe writes epic themes constantly<br>==================<br><br>Epic themes, yes.<br><br>Actual power anthems on par with Now We Are Free and My Name is Lincoln......No. In my opinion.but they are far away from good power anthems in my opinion<br>=============<br><br>My point as well.
Practically every single one of his recent scores have had at least 1 power anthem<br>=============<br><br>Clearly we have a different understanding of what a "power anthem" is. For me, a power anthem is My Name Is Lincoln, The Launch, Now We are Free, Arrival to Earth, etc....A track that resonates with millions of people. Not just film score fans. But casual film fans as well. Look at the YouTube views for Now We Are Free and Arrival to Earth. Millions and millions of views.<br><br>None of the tracks in the Hurricane Heist score can compare to these power anthems. None. Same goes for 12 Strong, PacRim 2 and (lol) Lego Batman. Only 13 Hours comes close. And that's because Michael Bay is the type of director who loves and demands power anthems (and thank God for that). It's no wonder that some of the most famous power anthems come from his movies...<br><br>I'm not saying all of that to undermine Balfe. It's just my personal observation.Balfe writes epic themes constantly.Assassins Creed,Beyond Two Souls,Geostorm are just some examples.Track 1 of PR: U is a power anthem, Brothers from Hurricane Heist is a power anthem, 12 Strong is a bit iffy as a lot of them aren't full anthems and more like action cues that go on for a bit. But I would disagree on the bad themes, I really enjoy the Brothers theme from HH (best moments in the score is when it crops up) and the main theme from PR: U, but aside from that they're not his best works.Hope you keep the staff ratings though, its useful for me as a lot of the people here have similar musical tastes to me and it helps to find ones that I might like.i wouldn't say, that Pacific Rim Uprising, Hurricane Heist and 12 Strong have power anthems. all 3 don't have even good themes. they are ok and they are the best part in every score, but they are far away from good power anthems in my opinion.
Lorne is not a power anthem guy? What are you talking about? Practically every single one of his recent scores have had at least 1 power anthem. To name a few: MI: Fallout, Pacific Rim Uprising, Hurricane Heist, 12 Strong, Lego Batman and Duck Shoot from The Crown. That's not what I meant. Just curious if anyone on the site has any new credits from asking the additional composers about this film.Thank Christ lol. That voting booth was good for absolutely nothing.Shazam is going to be released, by WaterTowerInfo*
no infi on shazam still huhand Zimmer was also involved in this movie as if it was in the previous ones?<br>======================<br><br>Hmm, I don't think Hans was involved here. He helped on TF4 and did some work on TF2 (to what extent I don't know) but that's pretty much it. Then again, Hans seems to be always around when it's a Michael Bay production.... :)and Zimmer was also involved in this movie as if it was in the previous ones?Really waiting for this soundtrack and hope Wallfisch will bring new vision into Hellboy universe.@Hybrid thanks a lot for your answers and your detective work!<br>Funny to see that Lorne does that much uncredited help (I know itís only the tip of the iceberg, and that he isnít the only one, as Bayhem said the rcp composers must help each other every time...)

Will the soundtrack for the third season be released?

Hybrid Soldier2013-05-07 23:52:39
As Ramin pointed on Facebook, the soundtracks for GOT Season 3 & Pacific Rim are in the works.

GOT should be release this summer (Var&#232;se, probably :)).

Pacific Rim will be released on July the 8th by WaterTower.

Macejko2013-05-08 16:12:46
That's good news, but after 6 episodes I don't think there even is much of new music to release...

Hybrid Soldier2013-05-08 16:15:33
Oh the ending of the episode 6 had quite some great moments ! :)

Macejko2013-05-08 16:42:01
Yeah, that melody was quite nice, but as much as love Ramin's music, I think that particular scene could have been handled better, musically speaking.
What I really liked was the rendition of Theon's theme during the scene of him being chased.
Also I'm not sure what to think about the rendition of Daenerys' theme playing at the end of episode 4. I think I understand what was Ramin going for, but it sounded somehow forced and inappropriate.
And again, I really liked the melody playing during Catelyn's confession about Jon Snow.
Overall, I'm indecisive about Season 3 music so far. It heavily relies on music from last two seasons (using Theon's theme at the execution of Rickard Karstark was a huge let down - it didn't make any sense to use that music there other than it was another execution), and when there is new music, it's usually a rendition of an older theme or it's something not really memorable. And I say this as a person who absolutely adores Ramin's work basically on everything.

Edmund Meinerts2013-05-08 22:19:14
Glad you brought up the Karstark thing, Macejko. Biggest musical facepalm since the Nazgul theme popped up in The Hobbit.

Macejko2013-05-08 22:41:06
Edmund: Yes, but concerning The Hobbit, it is known that the music used in the film itself is different from the music on the soundtrack CD. For example - there is no Nazgul/Mordor theme on the CD. Also, the main theme, which can be heard during almost every action sequence in the movie, is present only twice on the soundtrack. I'm not sure whose decision that was, but there are many differences between those two.
As for GoT, it's not hard to imagine that Ramin would indeed composed something new for that execution scene, but the creators (or the producers, or music supervisor) simply wanted to use the old stuff, just because it worked perfectly in similar scene. But of course, it doesn't make it any less disappointing.
I would love to find out that Ramin indeed composed new music and it was just replaced with the old stuff, but I don't think it's happening.

Ramin posted on his Facebook that the release date for the Season 3 soundtrack is June 4th (digital version, physical release to follow).

A really nice interview with Ramin, mostly about his phenomenal work on Game of Thrones.

I really like Game of Thrones but the opnnieg credits are the worst thing, in my opinion. It's not the music: that's great and powerful. It's the visuals that are completely unfit. For one, it's computer graphics that you can't mistake for anything else, even if it's hi-res. And then it speaks of clockwork, mechanisms and machinery, which are the things that are farthest from what this series is about. Perhaps the authors' intention was to depict the scheming, but that is far-fetched and still makes it feel completely out of place.
