Taking in the movie now after having seen it. The cinematography is brilliant, and there are some interesting concepts that really will have you thinking long after walking out of the theater. Still, I couldn’t help but feel like the film dragged throughout. Coupled with the voiceover the movie has a very ‘Terence Malick-y’, “Thin Red Line” feel throughout.

I’m definitely not familiar with Max Richter so I can’t comment on what he might have written, but Balfe’s broad-chord style is pretty recognizable throughout. There are also some interesting electronic pieces used throughout, possibly might be Balfe but hard to say as of now. The rest of the music is pretty contemplative, ranging from slow/emotional string pieces to more ambient droning.Well, I heard only Balfe's "Prayer" and Richter's "To the stars"... All I can say is we need to wait for the full release, hear both composers and only then talk about who better coped with this. (and watch the movie of course)
I don't think Balfe is a bad composer. He does pretty good as an additional composer but not as a leading (mostly). The only soundtrack that I consider the best to date in his solo career is "M:I-Fallout" and "Assassin's Creed III". (imo)
Who knows what will be this time. But for now I like Richter's track more.Maybe you have a download link?Download link?I'm just waiting for Gemini Man, that (i hope) would be fun
I love that cue.So I created a page for it, move away from Ghost In The Shell !! :PI wonder if this track is the one causing consternation: Nils Frahm: 'Says' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIwwjy4slI8

It sounds a bit like what Richter and Balfe could produce, but it is much more artistic than Balfe and much more synth-based than Richter. Frahm is credited for additional music. Not writing negative comments about Balfe for the purpose of writing negative comments - ie. trolling - but for the fact that Balfe does not seem to take film composition seriously. Goldsmith had a similar pace in the 1990s that equates to contemporary Balfe, but he managed to produce fantastic scores like Air Force One in a few weeks (yes, with some help from McNeeely). Balfe simply does not seem to have those skills so he resorts to cliches and drony nonsense. I await to be proven wrong. That Balfe track is not half-bad so I do maintain a general sense of expectation for this. Not any more lame than the Balfe cue
Lorne says it will be released and insists it’s not a GITS situation. That's been standard in certain cases, though considerably less nowadays with how complicated these situations have become.

Having heard both tracks posted, both give me little on their own. I'm sure they work better in the context of the film, and we might see better tracks unveiled eventually. He deserve better.Hans and Lorne like twins. Lorne has a very good personality. I still don't understand why some people are still writing bad comments to Lorne?Probably... lolSo is this how it’s gonna be? Official release for Richter and leaks by Balfe :(
Lorne posted a track from Ad Astra on his YouTube channelThank you. And i suppose "Need You Busting My Balls - End Credits" title would correspond to ASCAP "Need You Busting My Balls" + "RUSH END CREDITS", while "Just Married" to "RUSH MAIN ON END"?That’s literally the best part of the score though. But it’s typical Richter (Miss Sloane, Black Mirror: Nosedive).Hunt Drunken Weirdness is barely a cue actually, it's just a patch up of sound designs by Mel...

Italian Party is a name I made up for a cue that's not used in the movie ! :)In ASCAP there is a cue "HUNT DRUNKEN WEIRDNESS" - is this by a chance an alias to "Italian Party", which is absent in ASCAP. Though there are different credits Zimmer/Wesson vs Zimmer/Klebe.

One question guys do we have any news on a ultimate score of THIS EPIC MOVIE because my eye caught some links on youtube The Dark Knight Rises Ultimate Score 3 cd!!!!
because i got mine from amazon and blowed my mind thinking what this ultimate score will do

Mr. Fate2012-10-20 15:36:30
Stay away for any bullshit named "ultimate complete score edit" or whatever. Look around on this very site, and you should be able to find the listing for the recording sessions/complete score. A download link for it is not that hard to find either.

mittens reply Replies: 2 || 2012-10-12 15:44:55
Regarding that "Mind If I Cut In?" track, I could swear that I have heard it before. I don't know where, I don't know when, but it sounds VERY familiar to me...

Michael2012-10-12 21:41:16
It reminds me of the sound you'd get if you mixed Sherlock Holmes and Inception together, lol.

MGDrone2012-10-12 21:47:15
There's a cue in the score for Two Deaths, a little movie Hans did back in 95 that sounds very similar. But, there are hints of Hannibal, Sherlock, Frost/Nixon, and many other scores in there :) it still has it's one personality, though.

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 14 || 2012-07-20 09:49:09
Now, see you for the film release in Blu/DVD ! ;)

Agent Smith2012-07-20 09:51:48
uh that has to be a hint for us ;)

Evenstar2012-07-20 10:16:45
either more bonus tracks or a collectors edition...

Hybrid Soldier2012-07-20 10:37:08
Don't delete the app until then. ;)

bimbo2012-07-20 10:40:26
lol ok, so those cues will be released with the score itself as an expanded one

Hybrid Soldier2012-07-20 10:44:41
The Riddler's game is over (funny I appear in green haha) !

For now, enjoy what you have, enjoy the film, we'll discuss all this in time. :)

bimbo2012-07-20 10:50:06
haha thanks man for all those infos. much appreciated :)

Anonymous2012-07-20 11:07:50
Thanks for the info.

I think I have enough Dark Knight Rising music now. The app didn't bring much new to the table either. So for once I'm happy with the official album + bonus tracks.

Evenstar2012-07-20 12:10:44
Don't delete the app until then? If there will be new cues I don't think people would care since it was only 98kb/s quality...

Jason Allen Mac2012-07-20 15:28:51
Thank you Hans for such beautiful music, I hope to meet you again and to work with you in the future.

Rise.

Peter2012-07-20 21:23:51
I think track Selina Kyle (5:41) is a full/film vertion of OST track 'Mind If I Cut In' , it's so good! And track Oephan is cue from bonus track 'The End'.

MGDrone2012-07-20 22:16:54
Hybrid, my hat goes off to you sir. The theme suites are beautiful, as always! Thanks for letting Hans know how much we want his music. I look forward to having the theme suites in good quality. I'm truly amazed at how much music we got this time... Do you think this will become a trend for all his projects to come? ;)

Bane2012-09-29 19:40:22
So, with the home release of the film coming up; any news on the possible additional score on the app, hybrid?

MGDrone2012-09-29 22:11:11
I was wondering the same thing. It's rumored to come out on Dec. 3rd.

Michael2012-10-07 02:13:30
Personally, I think that, with all the iTunes and physical CD bonus tracks and the app music, all the really good music has been released. The only really striking music that we don't have is the following (I think):

the bar shootout
the music when Bane was in the stadium
the music when Blake is in the hospital trying to find Gordon

But all in all, I'm pleased with what we've been given. :)

BB - Tracks taken from the Batman Begins recording sessions)

anyone could correct / add informations ?

Feedthemachine2012-07-22 17:28:29
Underground Army is the scene where Gordon discovers Bane's army in the sewers.

Death By Exile is when Gordon is walking on the ice.

The End is during the credits.

All Out War is played when Gordon's army is meeting near the end of the movie.

Failsafe 2012-07-22 17:38:31
All Out War occurs before Imagine the Fire...When Blake thanks Batman just before the cops get together to fight.

Death By Exile I have no idea

The End - Its another version of Rise

Underground Army sounds like Underscore before the stadium, as the cops are all going into the tunnels....

D A R T H2012-07-22 18:25:38
and where to place theme into the tracklisting

D A R T H2012-07-22 18:28:35

And where to place them into the tracklisting ?

theeaglesfan0052012-07-23 01:11:34
Underground Army is used when the special forces people show up

Uga22012-07-23 02:44:00
I remember Born in Darkness also played when Bruce Wayne emerges from the shadows meeting Selina for the first time, after he shoots the arrow.

Ce sont des THEME SUITES !

Ca a été écrit bien avant le film !

Ca n'a pas vocation à être dans le film !

C'est une base de travail pour le score final !

In fact this is a "demo - suite - something" album, it would generally make little sense to publish a tracklist.

theeaglesfan0052012-07-25 14:29:40
Underground Army is when the special forces people show up... idk why you have it near the top

D A R T H2012-07-25 19:32:42
used twice

George2012-07-26 02:21:13
nothing out there is when alfred tells bruce about his 'fantasy' :p

all out war is when batman tells cat woman to use the bike to blow through a hole. She says thats all shell do and then she's out. Batman tries to convince her otherwise. Poorly used in the movie IMO cold of been in a more climatic position.

Drunkenmunkey2012-07-26 02:23:45
Is anyone (D A R T H) willing to combine the BB stuff with the theme suits in movie order and make a longer bootleg expanded score?) Perhaps when the DVD is released so it will be easier for the track order?

i would like to sincerely know which song is used during the build up to the street battle between the mercenaries and the cops. i thoroughly remember the chant, as it was released for people to record themselves doing, being used in it. and it builds, getting faster and faster. i have poured over the soundtrack, as well as it's bonus tracks, and though i find many times over the chant, never do i find the exact one used.

i am dismayed. does it not exist?

D A R T H2012-07-29 23:11:19
1)@toothsayer : maybe : No Stone Unturned (i think)

2) Souce musics (Charity ball scene) :

Johann Stauss II ''Roses from the South'' op. 388
Claude Debussy ''En bateau ; Petite Suite''

between The Fire Rises and Trip to Hong Kong

D A R T H2012-07-29 23:12:38
@toothsayer : my voice (an thousand others) is on the movie...

toothsayer2012-07-31 04:50:14
@DARTH
i know, my voice is in there too. but it is not No Stone Unturned, it does have the chanting, but this scene in the movie has the same chanting as what we recorded for Zimmer when he asked everyone to. with the one voice calling "deshay!" and then the many voices, (when we were asked to speak in the recordings), repeating "deshay!", and then the voice goes "basara!", and then the voices repeat "basara!". they do this a few times and then it begins to speed up, the EXACT same way the thing we all recorded did. but it is nowhere on the soundtrack. it is literally the scene where the cops and the mercenaries are looking at each other, about to charge. i wish i could get this song.

Fantastic soundtrack !
There's a piece I desperately need to hear again (and that is not on the soundtrack), when Catwoman is escaping the bar and GCPD are shooting in the alley...
Shame it's not even on the app content..

By the way, will new content be added to the app ? It would be wonderful.

Found this...

evolver.fm/2012/09/24/rip-rjdj-developer-pivots-retires-lege ndary-immersive-app/

Says "we are working on some great new content released through “The Dark Knight Rises Z+” app". So, hopefully, we will hear some more very soon.

John reply Replies: 1 || 2012-09-22 17:15:48
If this has been asked already I apologize, but what exactly are the different themes in the Batman trilogy representing? Understanding that the two-note wing flurry is the actual Batman motif, what do the others stand for- particularly the most-often used ones we're so familiar with?

Michael2012-09-23 06:44:54
Most of the recurring themes represent Batman himself. For example:

--the music that plays at the beginning of the end credits for each film
--the Molossus theme (found also in Antrozus from Batman Begins, Like a Dog Chasing Cars and Introduce a Little Anarchy from TDK, and Necessary Evil from TDKR)
--The "hero" theme found in Like a Dog Chasing Cars, Introduce a Little Anarchy, A Watchful Guardian, and A Dark Knight from TDK, and also found in Rise from TDKR
--the "dark" theme found in Barbastella from Begins, Aggressive Expansion/You Complete Me/A Watchful Guardian from TDK, and Why Do We Fall?/Rise from TDKR
--The "stealth" theme, as I call it, found in I'm Not a Hero and Buyer Beware from TDK, and "Fear Will Find You" from TDKR

The theme that plays in Batman Begins when Bruce pulls Ducard from the edge of the cliff and when he opens the closet to reveal the Batsuit seems to convey heroism in general. In Begins it denotes Batman, and then it's remade into Harvey Dent's theme for TDK.

The theme that plays in Eptesicus and Corynorhinus from Begins is for Rachel.

Hope this helps!

Is it possible in the near future that Zimmer will release a full box set of all 3 complete scores? Including additional cues and film edits? A 12 CD set?

Batman Begins (4CD)
The Dark Knight (4CD)
The Dark Knight Rises (5CD)

theeaglesfan0052012-09-04 21:16:42
um... 4+4+5=13 lol

but i would like that to happen... will it? I don't know.

Mr. Fate2012-09-04 23:50:58
Where did those numbers come from? Did you pull them out of your ass? What makes you think TDKR's full score could possibly take up 5 CDs?

And no, it is not possible in the near future that Zimmer would do any such thing. There are scores of his from 10+ years ago that haven't even been released in full.

Lucius Fox2012-09-05 01:02:12
TDKR is nowhere near that many discs. It can all fit on 2, MAYBE 1

janlee2012-09-05 18:13:27
the complete score for the begins and dark knight is already out only rises remain.

theeaglesfan0052012-09-05 19:26:58
not out officially... if they ever released them officially... i would buy them

Tim2012-09-05 20:19:31
I'm not sure if that is going to happen... Begins and TDK completes were leaked by James Newton Howards Team!

Uga22012-09-05 23:03:43
Well to put it more specifically, Batman Begins isn't complete. It has very many cues, but still lacks a few.
And I'm not sure or not, but I think there are some alternates out there for the Dark Knight.

Anonymous2012-09-06 05:44:36
I know I got my #s wrong, sorry! Secondly, the reason why I thought of 5 CDs was b/c of this: CD 1 - Tracks 1-27. CD 2 - 27-56. CD 3- Alternatives CD 4- Extras / Film Edits Cd 5 - Scoring session clips...vise versa!

And mostly, the leaked recording sessions for BB isn't exactly complete. There's 3 or 4 tracks missing.

Mr. Fate2012-09-06 13:47:09
WTF?! How the hell do you know how many tracks are going to be on each disc? What are you doing here?

Anonymous2012-09-06 21:26:46
Chill out. I'm NOT assuming how many tracks will be on the CDs. Did you even read what I posted above?

*People flip out over something so small. Jeez.

Anonymous2012-09-06 21:29:48
I'm taking the INFO and from the BB & TDK RECODING SESSIONS tracklist and saying that's what I COULD or MIGHT be like. I doubt all that 2hrs 20 minutes will fit onto 1 disc so they're gonna have to be 2 disc of main score, plus a 3rd for additional shit. CD 4 & 5, that was my own hope of having a disc just film edits and possibly videos on the other.

Does that simplify anything???

Mr. Fate2012-09-07 01:11:25
Yes and No.

btw, most scores do not contain the film edits outside of how the music is heard within the film. There will ALWAYS be music missing. We've had people like you before: think they'll jump ahead of the gun and dream up all sorts of possibilities for something that doesn't and probably won't exist; speculating and fantasizing...

It's one thing to say, "I hope the complete score for this film comes out one day."

But it's completely different to say, "I hope the complete score for this film comes out and I'll bet it has 5 CDs, and here's what I think they'll put on each of the CDs, and here's how much music will go on each CD, and here's I hope they present it all, etc, etc...."

BallSack Magoo2012-09-07 02:40:28
@Tim

How do you know the previous two scores were leaked by JNH's fellas?

Lucius Fox2012-09-07 02:49:01
The Sessions are nearly 2 & 1/2 hrs. I will repeat myself, it will all fir most likely on 2 discs, MAYBE 1

Mr. Fate2012-09-07 03:56:16
@Lucius Fox: keep in mind that music CDs can only hold 80 minutes of material. Your estimate of 2 1/2 hours, of course, translates to 150 minutes, so technically it is impossible to fit the full (hypothetical) score onto a single disc.

Lucius Fox2012-09-07 04:07:54
Well then, Like I said - 2 discs. There's no enough material for 3 or more discs

MGDrone2012-09-07 22:27:41
I actually don't think it's unlikely that we'll get at least expanded scores. I mean, all three scores have been commercial successes, especially TDK. But, if they do release some sort of box set, the best we can hope for is a repackage of the current commercial albums and AT BEST only one extra cd for BB and TDKR and no new material for TDK. Would I like it that way? No. But, considering the way these releases usual are, I'm not counting on complete scores in chronological order with unused cues, all the themes suites, etc. But, this is all just speculation. Why get angry about something we didn't have in the first place?

Tim reply Replies: 0 || 2012-09-05 18:45:06
Hi there,

I wonder where I can get the bonus tracks "No Stone Unturned" "All Out War" and "Risen from Darkness". I purchased the Album on iTunes where the album's tracklist included only two additional tracks.

I don't have an iPhone, just a Windows Phone (blame me!!), but I want the Inception and TDKR apps so bad! Does anybody know an app, onfiguration or something like that to make those Zimmer apps accessable (and compatible) for me?

I know this community is always helpful to clueless fans like me :)

(sorry for my (hopefully understandable) english^^

Hybrid, do You know what was exactly the "experiment" Hans is talking about? (was it 'just' a large orchestra or something else?)

Ds2012-08-03 15:20:24
I think it's large orchestra + hardcore music that looks more like rock than classic orchestra music (Gotham's Reckoning, etc). Personnally i think i've never heard such a violent/brutal composition played by an orchestra!

MGDrone2012-08-03 22:05:37
Like Ds said, I believe it's what we hear in Bane's suite. There are many moments when the orchestra sounds "harsh" and Hans also used some interesting percussion. Or maybe he just scrapped the whole experiment, but I really believe it's mostly likely what we hear in Bane.

Jordi2012-08-04 09:26:00
MGDrone,
I'm with you here.

Jo2012-08-04 11:05:42
Only half-related, but still fitting I hope:

A couple of years back, Hans said in an interview that he met Chris Nolan at the premiere of SH and they talked all night about the music for the new film (which I guess was Inception). And he said, that he had an idea in his mind, and usually the ideas in his mind sound better than the end result, but this one time, the end result actually sounded better than what he had in mind, and that might have been because he could go and record the idea only 2 days late with a full orchestra.
In the interview he still wasn't certain if that would ever make the final score/soundtrack.

Does anyone know what it was and if it made the score? You think it could have been Time?

MGDrone2012-08-27 22:28:18
Hans confirmed in a recent interview that the "experiment" is Bane's theme.

Gotham's Reckoning
The Fire Rises
Fear Will Find You
Imagine the Fire
The Shadows Betray You

It are just 2 words: DESHI BASHARA which means 'The Fire Will Rise' and was recorded by hundreds of people on the site ujam.

The score is basically the same riff but together in different tempo.

ToddL2012-08-22 07:52:36
I personally think this is one of the best scores Hans has done. When he said "he always wanted to score a movie like this", the outcome is quite obvious. Not certain, given the 20 years I have been listening to him, that I have been this astonished by his efforts. And, what's more, you hear bits and pieces of 20 years of effort unfold here. I could not be more happy about the length of material that's been made available. Aurora is a sentimental marvel on top of everything TDKR.

Self-picked cues which are seemingly unavailable in the official soundtrack:
1. The Bat/Leg Enhanced/Bane's Rumors
2. Airplane Hijack (Prologue)
3. No Partial Fingerprints/Kyle's Assault
4. Stock Exchange Panic/Chasing Bane/Take The Batman

Worth another $20.00 for them in my view :)

Can anyone confirm that the cue from Trailer 4 is not currently available? That will put my mind at ease.

therealmorse2012-07-22 01:33:26
yes...I can confirm that. Its also none of the bonus tracks, sad to say. The only time the tune pops up is actually very quietly at the end of the "Bombers of Ibiza" (Junkie XL Remix)...about the last 30 seconds...its very quietly heard

headphoneboy2012-07-22 03:48:37
thanks for clarifying morse. that's my favorite piece of music i've heard related to the film so far, so it's a shame it's not included in the score materials that have been released so far. hopefully a future deluxe edition will include it in some form, but then again who knows...

therealmorse2012-07-23 15:29:20
I agree, its one of my favorites as well...have to admit though, Mr. Zimmer gave us a TON of material though for this release. I hope there is a Trilogy Collection that is released that offers some unreleased material from all the 3 movies. Here's hoping!

therealmorse2012-07-24 17:20:48
I appreciate the effort, but while it starts out as the correct track, recorded and edited from the 4th trailer, but whoever did the mix assumed it was part of "Gotham's Reckoning", which it is not. There are enough clips of it through various trailers that if I wanted to edit a cut of it, I could, but I think I will just wait for a release of it through some medium because dispute the clips that were released for this album, the official cuts blow the clips away and its just better to listen to the correct studio versions. It is a great track though and I can't wait for it to be released. Here's hoping!

headphoneboy2012-07-26 22:42:14
after seeing the film a second time, I am fairly positive that the music used in trailer 4 doesn't appear in the film.

i also noticed that a longer version of this cue can be found in the closing minutes of the 13+ min Dark Knight Rises Featurette that can easily be found all over youtube. Clearly this was once part of a longer cue that has yet to surface.

Magnus Rex2012-07-27 06:58:24
OK, I have to say this to everyone. Because I cannot understand the reactions here.

FACT: Trailer music is hardly ever taken from the score of which was composed for the same film.

Trailer music is one of three things (in no particular order):

1) Original
2) Library/production music
3) A song/cue from another film

With literally thousands of other trailers with original music, no one ever bats (no pun intended) an eyelid about it. But with this film, people are FREAKING OUT about the lack of trailer music on the soundtrack album, as if its exclusion from the CD is some kind of terrible mishap on behalf of Watertower Music.

Why?

It was composed for the trailer, simple as that. Why are people so mystified/annoyed/dismayed about its lack of existence on CD? Trailer music hardly ever sees the light of day to the public. A rare case was John Beal's "Coming Soon" album from 1998, which collected a lot of his original trailer music from the 80s and 90s.

I mean, relax! Its not likely to surface any time soon in a decent form and my educated guess is that it was never intended to be on the soundtrack CD at any time.

Mr. Charles2012-07-27 09:49:46
FACT:

Every single one of TRON: Legacy's trailers featured music from Daft Punk's original score for the film

FACT:

The trailer for The Dark Knight used music from the film and Batman Begins, as well.

FACT:

Hanna even featured The Chemical Brothers' "Sandman Theme" at the end of its trailer, which is featured in several spots throughout the film.

Check your facts, Magnus Rex.

Sincerely,
Mr. Charles

=)

Hybrid Soldier2012-07-27 12:04:17
The very first Comic Con Tron Legacy trailer was written by Clay Duncan for the trailer...

Mr. Charles2012-07-27 19:59:36
I know that, Hybrid. I mean theatrical trailers released by the MPAA :)

It's on Clay's website and it's titled "Who am I AKA TRON". I have it, its a pretty good piece.

Trailer 1 which was released in front of Alice In Wonderland features "The Game Has Changed".

Trailer 2 features "Father & Son Prelude", "Outlands, pt. I" & "Fall"

Trailer 3 features "Fireworks" (as it's known on the Blu-ray rip since the official version isn't available to the public) and "C.L.U"

Mr. Charles2012-07-28 00:38:36

@Magnus Rex

No, I ha e basically confirmed AND proved the OPPOSITE of what you've said.

" FACT: Trailer music is hardly ever taken from the score of which was composed for the same film.

Trailer music is one of three things (in no particular order):

1) Original 2) Library/production music 3) A song/cue from another film"

I have listed TRON: Legacy and Hanna as 2 of just many films where part of the film'score are used in it's trailers. Check your head, Rex...

Magnus Rex2012-07-28 01:49:33
"I have listed TRON: Legacy and Hanna as 2 of just many films where part of the film'score are used in it's trailers"

Many films but the majority of films use other non-original music.

Feedthemachine2012-07-28 07:17:30
You do realize that there are ENTIRE companies that devote themselves to composing trailer music, right (Immediate Music comes to mind)? If a film doesn't use their music, chances are the composer composed music specifically for the trailer (Howard Shore - Return of the King).
