So Hybrid, care to tell us why you randomly deleted comments talking about the leaked recording sessions?Yes! That piano part is amazing!
„when charles and jean stand in front of the school“Saw the movie. Great score and it really fits the movie.

Missing stuff:
- 25 seconds of a piano version of Gap without the brass and bells
- a 30 second badass version of the main theme during the mageneto/jean helicopter stand off
- 1.5 minute end credits suite. Typical Zimmer to leave the best and most epic track and best main theme version off the album. I hope it will be on CD2, but knowing Zimmer the best tracks always remain unreleased. This is another escape from ship...after listening and listening...this score is truly amazing! i love it so much! i want the suites and ideas NOW! :DWhere can I find this?
been listening to this score for a week now and i am going to wait a little more before putting a comment on it here... but there's something else i have been saying for a while now. let's stop associating scores with movies and start seeing them as a work of art in their own rights. (albeit inspired by movies)

people are here complaining about the movie that it didn't speak to them. and then i have the feeling that they project their disappointment on the soundtrack. but both pieces of art co-exist and not depend on each other. i, for example, seldom watch any of these movies. but i have listened to their soundtracks and love them.

also i never asked for an extended CD before... but we need one for this one. it's very clear that tracks like gap and coda were definitely shortened.

also i never asked for an extended CD before but we need one for DP. it's clear that tracks like gap and coda were definitely shortened. There's nothing unique about those choirs, standard East European chorus stuff mixed with Johansson. Check out Debbie Wiseman's Warriors from 2000 and you'll get a much more elaborate version of this music.I cant say that this chorus reminds me of anything I have heard Zimmer done before. And I have played all his scores to death.I agree that Gap is the best track. My main complain with this score is that it feels that Zimmer composed it on autopilot. For me those choirs sounded too much to Electro's Theme in TASM. Is too standard and has very few remarkable moments. The movie itself lacks of personality and the score is part of that problem. I think they just wanted "dark" and hired Zimmer for making his dark ostitatos.I thought I read somewhere Armageddon was the last bay film that hgw was a part of
===============================

Well, Bay and HGW were not exactly best friends during Armageddon. Bay is very demanding and tough. HGW is also not a shy dude. He is an opinionated guy who stands his ground, as you can tell by his interviews. He reminds me of Mancina…..He's not afraid to speak up and have his opinion heard. And just like Mancina, his relationship with the Bay/Bruckheimer family seemed to be...….a bit complicated. Yet, he worked on Bad Boys 2 and Deja Vu. Now, it is possible - tho not likely - that Bay didn't even know that HGW did some work on BB2. Maybe it was just a favor for Steve and Trevor. Under the table, so to speak..... Personally, I don't believe that's the case. Whatever the truth, this is a great example of how different those composers are. Trevor and Steve work great with Bay/Bruckheimer and they always deliver great results. While composers like HGW and Mancina have problems with more demanding filmmakers. And apparently they don't even like action cinema. I don't necessary blame them, even though Mancina certainly didn't do himself any favors by trashing the genre and the people who back in the 90's gave him a shot to prove himself as a composer.
Love John Powell. But he is not even close to Williams. Williams made his mark on every genre of film scoring. He freaking turn a holocaust movie score into a masterpiece for the ages.

Today, that score would have been some generic sound design.

Powell is an incredibly gifted orchestral composer. But he doesn't have the dimensions of someone like Williams.

You fools, the tracklist was but a scam. The tracks simply wanted to EAT you.Yeah, while this does have a great deal more substance than most of the work Hans has done the past few years, I struggle to say it's a genuinely *good* score.

I mean, within the first minute I'm reminded of Dunkirk, then we get a pretty standard Zimmer/Balfe buildup we've heard a million times since Inception... and it doesn't get hugely better from there.

I will definitely give Zimmer credit for the unique and genuinely creative use of female choir in some of the cues, though. Not to disagree for its own sake, but I think Powell has been up there with the greatest film composers since the first HTTYD score. I just wish he'd take on more projects.Yeah, Jesus. This is a prime example of why I'm tempted to think John Powell is more talented than even Williams (yes, I went there).
There's so, so many great themes in the HTTYD scores. And he almost never lets a moment go by where he isn't stating or restating or developing one or more of them (although honestly that's true of a ton of Powell's scores and not an exclusive feature of HTTYD). You can never get bored listening to these, there's always something interesting around the next corner.I got confirmation HGW only wrote Haitian House Shootout (with the help of Mel Wesson). The same ideas were edited into the shorter cue Zoepound, so I'd say you can add this one to his credits.

Credits on IMDB mentions Paul Linford on the Main Titles.

Trevor Morris helped Jablonsky on the Ferrari Causeway Chase.
Jablonsky worked, for sure, on the Hallway and Helicopter Inserts.

100% sure Rabin worked on Tapia, Tapia Pissed Off, The Stuff, Wiretap Results, Ocean, Dead Bodies #2, Heart to Heart, Breaking Into Mortuary, Syd's Cover Is Blown, Tapia Has Syd (without Inserts), Prep for Tapia Sneak, Cuba Chase, Guantanamo (those tracks are on the Rabin only-bootleg).Hoping for the Rocketman score to get a release. Loved the score in the movie. Any updates on this ?Additionally, for anyone interested, I've managed to come up with a final list of themes from the series that I believe to be mostly accurate.

HTTYD 1: Hiccup & Toothless, The Friendship ostinato, Viking Theme, Viking "B" Theme, Dragons, Berk, The Dragon Tamer (Hiccup's unique qualities), Vikings & Dragons, Astrid

HTTYD 2: Loss, Exploration/Hiccup's Maturance, Drago, Hiccup & Valka, The Alpha, Stoick & Valka, The Chief

HTTYD 3: The Furies ostinato, Love, The Dragon Liberators, Moving On, The Hidden World, Toothless & The Light Fury, Grimmel, Dragon Trappers

A list more impressive than Star Wars, and with almost every new theme returning for the next film, while keeping most of the base themes. A masterful achievement by John Powell and his crew, as others have said!Just finished watching the movie, and while it's not much more than fine, it's sure as hell better than every other Star Wars movie that's come out since The Force Awakens (minus the ugly fucking visuals).

However the score is absolutely amazing. Powell's adaptation and development of the new Han Solo theme from Williams is flawless, the callbacks to other themes from the series are mostly appropriate (and good on him for not using the Force theme once!) and Powell's original material is fresh and exciting in a way that even Williams himself hasn't been able to pull off with the new films.

Powell might very well be up there with the greatest film composers if he continues to produce work like this from now on (which from HTTYD 3 seems very possible!)

One of the most beautiful choral pieces of the 21st C. Mr. Zimmer please make this original London recording available in a cd (320kbps) or a lostless version to be able to enjoy its full beauty. The version on YouTube is just muddy cruddy. And the version on the Prague cd is not a chorus of this caliber. Plz plz plz! Gratefully, Philip

I tried recreating the version he plays live, hopefully the quality is better even though it's youtube..

Thanks, I do have the lossless file (although not completely lossless since Aurora was lossy). But i'm not sure if i'm allowed to put a download link here..

Cyberpunk88 is it possible for you to send the "lossless" file?

Re: Music Permissions in Educational Setting

Dear Sir:

I am a senior majoring in Dance, and am creating an original choreographic work for presentation in our Fall, 2017 Senior Project Concert.

I understand that you are the owner of the copyright for the musical composition Aurora and I would like to use the song in my work. I would like to use a section of the song as an accompaniment to a section of my choreographed work.

The Senior Project Concert will be performed at Montclair State University’s Studio Theater, a 100-seat house, in December 2017. The proceeds from all ticket sales to this event go directly towards the Dance Department’s budget for paying musicians to accompany dance classes throughout the school year. Neither myself nor any other participant in this concert receives any compensation for our work in the show.

Additionally, as a student choreographer I have an extremely limited budget for the creation and production of my work. I hope that you will allow me to use this music at no charge. If this is not possible, please let me know the fee required for this type of use.

Your signature below, under “confirmed by,” or electronic approval response will indicate that you agree to permit this use without payment of a fee. Please let me know if you have any questions concerning this license. Also, could you please let me know as soon as possible if this song cannot be licensed for this use, so that I may change my plans for my work accordingly. You can reach me at the contact information listed below.

I appreciate your help in this matter, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Amy

I don't like piracy, but that's the only option left.
Please put it back up on iTunes!

Mr. Charles2012-07-27 20:02:27
See, this is one of the reasons why HZ is my favorite composer. You don't see John Williams doing stuff like this.

Anonymous2012-07-27 20:32:22
itunes? :/

Uga22012-07-27 21:10:59
What Mr Charles said^

tobi2012-07-27 22:14:13
@Mr. Charles

I hope the day never comes when john williams has to do something like because that would mean that allot of innocent people have to day.

+ why do you have downgrade another composer like this using this situation

I am great admirer of zimmers music and not that big of fan of williams but to say this is why you like zimmer is just plainly FUCKED UP. Sorry mods for the language

Hybrid Soldier2012-07-27 22:41:36
Yeah I agree with tobi here, no reason to be harsh. Plus, what do you know about what other composers do or do not in their private life ? Maybe they are doing things we don't even know about.

But the point here is that what HZ was über cool ! :)

Mr. Charles2012-07-28 00:02:35
Whoa, whoa, whoa. You guys are totally misinterpreting what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I love John Williams. But I see and hear people trash talk HZ all too often. What I'm saying is it's nice to see him doing this. Very humble and generous.

I never said that I'm glad this horrible event happened, I wish to God it hadn't. I said "this is ONE OF THE REASONS that HZ is my favorite composer". It goes to show what kind of a man he is. In no way does that mean I'm glad this happened or that it would ever happen. I don't understand where you guys are getting that from...

And Hybrid, you're right - I have no idea what other composers are doing in their private lives. Why you mentioned a composer's private life is beyond me, because this is not HZ's private life here. He is publicly making this music available to everyone, and I think it's great that 100% of the proceeds go to all the victims of Aurora.

Again, I did not say this is why I like HZ. It's just one more thing to add to the lost of why he's my favorite. No reason to get angry or upright, people. I'm just a beloved fan expressing how I feel

ToddL2012-07-30 04:41:57
This is a profound achievement aimed at honoring the victims and all affected by a tragedy that shocked a nation. Hans has once again poured out his sensibilities, this time not into fiction, yet over factual and shocking circumstances. Anyone that overlooks the straightforward and heartfelt sorrow and gratitude of this beautiful effort is simply stupid....sorry. I appreciate him and his spirit more as a human being and artist than ever before.

ananymous2012-07-30 11:38:29
@ Mr. Charles

for example: Elegy for Cello and Orchestra

Lambegue2012-08-05 16:25:48
Well, I was rather unhappy with TDKR score (even if I haven't listened yet to the suites and to the digital exclusive material), but THIS is impressive...And yes, it's another proof that, beyond the composer, Zimmer is a great man.
It does not change anything to the quality of the music, but still...Nice to know.

So if Zimmer did this by himself and the first half is the "Slow Knife" cue from TDKR in choral form, does that mean he did the slow knife cue on his own? I doubt he would use it here if it were someone else's arrangement. Beautiful piece and beautiful gesture, as an aside, though I'm sorry it ever had to be written... :/

To Mr. Zimmer-
Is the score available for performance of this piece by a local choir (Musicians of St. Clare) in Colorado?
Please - someone, tell me how to direct this question to the composer. We'd like to perform the piece at our Fall, 2012, concert in memory of the victims and for the community. Thank you!

JordiVcecilia2012-07-28 02:20:37
it's so appropiate...and it's simply breathtaking piece of music.

NUts2012-07-28 05:52:48
Umm...No offense but...This track is the Bane theme and the Dark Knight theme in choral form...We already have this on the OST "RISE" and to be honest, although I appreciate more Batman-related music, I don't see why this composition has to be related to the movie, and why it's not some original piece that has no relation to ANY film....

Nice piece, but I just found that a bit off, considering the circumstances...

Mr. Charles2012-07-28 06:19:51
It has TDKR themes in it because the incident that happened was directly related to TDKR. It would be kind of random if HZ just out of the blue composed a piece dedicated to all of these people. Actually, it would be random if any composer did that. But that is beyond the point. The point is that HZ generously and humbly made this piece specifically for the victims of the Aurora shootings.

ananymous2012-07-28 10:04:42
The man knows no limits ...

Nuts2012-07-28 15:39:35
Sorry but i still disagree. Nice piece of music, but it doesn't HAVE to be the music from the movie. Zimmer writing a piece with its own signifcant identity (apart from the movie) is more appropriate because the shooting is about the PEOPLE DYING, NOT THE MOVIE.

When I listen to this piece it reminds me of Talia/Bane (their theme is used) and the Dark Knight ending....This doesn't remind me of the Aurora incident at all.

I understand where he was going with this, but really, I don't need the shooting to be directly related to the Batman movie. That was the killer's choice - who says we should give him that title designation? Im sure that's what he wants. This is why you see many news stations calling it the Aurora Movie Massacre and taking away the Batman element. Because its NOT about the movie. It's about going to the movies itself.

Like I said my opinion...Its just somber Batman music, to me. I donated. I thank Zimmer for it, just as I thank him for "RISE" and "THE END" off the OST...

Anonymous2012-07-28 19:23:25
"This doesn't remind me of the Aurora incident at all."

Yes because we all want to be reminded of it, lmao. What a dumb thing to say.

nuts2012-07-29 03:09:49
Actually Anon what you just said was pretty stupid.

I dont need music for Batman serving to remind me of the tragedy.

Something else - a different piece of music - defintely.

This is about a guy shooting innocent people in a movie theater. It's not about the Batman movie.

This guy probably WANTS that connection to be cemented in the public, but I refuse that.

nuts2012-07-29 05:25:24
Like it or not, the incident is forever linked with the tragedy.

NUts2012-07-29 19:38:27
Its only linked to Batman if you WANT it to be linked...i refuse to let this guy Holmes make himself remembered through this movie.
