So what happened to the credits here? It used to be a mixture of solo Atli cues with Atli/Dave Fleming, and now all three guys are credited for every track even though Tillman is only listed as a musician? Is this like with Armageddon, where the "official" credits aren't as accurate as the older ones were? :pMost of the album is comprised of suites, with one consistent tempo per track. <br><br>The material that was scored to picture was scored using the risset rhythm technique, which gave a lot of those tracks their "infinitely getting faster" feeling in the film, so the tempo is always climbing in the film versions. The suites have a stable tempo (except for a couple normal tempo changes, which are different)Not really any... "Nothing Out There" contains the sad piano theme from Begins and Dark Knight, but otherwise the themes that get reprised are pretty much Hans stuff. <br><br>Speaking of credits, any chance the complete score page could be updated with what's out there and official?Could somebody tell me in what cues JNH's themes appear on album?Thanks MIKE, Any ideas of how can I Google it?
Yeah, that cue was either a last minute rewrite or one of the music editors did it.... As for where you can find it...Google is your friend. But it's not going to be available anywhere officially.I think it will be in between NOT ORDINARY CITIZEN / THE SLOW KNIFE and IMAGINE THE FIRE, Does anybody know where can I find it?<br>I noticed that this score doesn't has the soundtrack of the part where Blake is taking the people to the bridge and he is discusing with the other police officer before he blows the bridgeThat's right, I forgot about that... And I totally agree about the score vs. the album. I had no use for this score on album at first, but now that I've watched the movie a few times, I can really hear the logic behind the score and I "get it." <br><br>I still don't get the music as heard on album, though. Are the longer pieces some early suites Hans wrote? Or did he specifically make these arrangements for the album? Do you know the answer to that one, Hybrid?I wanna say I heard the full Cat Suite somewhere... I can't remember if it was legit, but it was 15:39 and it was indeed quite repetitive. It was basically the Selina Kyle Suite from the Z+ app, along with demos of several of the Catwoman-related cues in the final score. If you've listened through the score, you've basically heard the unreleased stuff.
@Mike<br>Zimmer has said in interviews that he “mapped out” the film with one long piece of music to establish the changing tempo of the story, and apparently the script was written to capture the rhythmic feel of the film. So from the very beginning the story was always split up between the three.<br><br>I think a big part of the initial disappointment with the score was the album presentation, which gives off the impression that the music is just some sound design that Zimmer threw together (this is how I personally felt when I first gave it a listen). In actuality it’s a technically impressive score, I really can’t think of any other film score that is so synchronized with a film’s tempo and flows as one long piece of music. Apparently it was a nightmare for Hans, especially when the smallest edits to the film would ruin the flow.<br><br>Doing the 59-minute album was a pretty big disservice to the whole purpose of the music. If you remove one piece the whole thing falls apart, which is part of the reason the album feels so disjointed.Anyone here listened "The Predator" FYC score? <br>Any chance to compare tracklist and running time with official release?These versions suites haven't been officially released, but maybe you can find them somewhere around the Internet unofficially.<br><br>As for the Cat Suite, the most important parts of it can be found in "Selina Kyle" (it's a shortened version of it actually) and "Mind if I cut in?" from the OST. I remember that Hybrid once said that the 15mins Cat Suite was too repetitive, that's why a 5min only version was released, so maybe you are just fine with those two.<br>Where can I listen to the Cat Suite? Or is it literally: Selina Kyle Theme? <br>The Mole P1 (0-1:57)<br>Regimental Brothers P1 (0-1:19)<br>The Mole P2 (1:57-3:44)<br>Regimental Brothers P3 (2:44 onward)<br>We Need Our Army Back<br>Shivering Soldier<br>Supermarine P1 (0-2:47)<br>The Mole P3 (3:45 onward)<br>We Need Our Army Back (again) <br>Supermarine P2 (*5:33)<br>Impulse<br>The Tide<br>Home <br>The Oil <br>Variation 15<br>End Credits <br><br>As everyone said already, the album is made up of suites that combine several cues and several "sounds" used in various places. For example, the is a sound in The Mole (At 2:05) that sounds like a fuse being ignited. This sound is actually right after The Tide in the film.<br>The only tracks that are almost identical to the film are: The Tide, Variation 15 and End Credits, the rest is different. <br><br>So if you were to order the tracks as first heard in the film it would be: <br>The Mole <br>Regimental Brothers <br>We Need Our Army Back<br>Shivering Soldier <br>Supermarine <br>Impluse <br>The Tide <br>Home <br>The Oil<br>Variation 15<br>End credits<br><br>As much as I enjoyed listening to this release, I wish they didn't butcher the score the way they did. I like the suites but there are so many great cues in this film that weren't released. If only they released an isolated score track on Blu-ray. Listening to film extracts is just not enough.
I noticed that as well — the ticking goes all through the movie, except for the boat scenes, and only stops when they get on the train. <br><br>I wonder...could the film have originally been shot so that the beach, sea, and air sequences were there own arcs, and the longer album tracks were written for that? And then Nolan went in and turned the movie into the frenetic, constantly cutting-back-and-forth final product? <br><br>While the album is fine, I personally don't understand why we couldn't have just gotten the film cues. They might have had to stitch several together for each track, but it could have worked.Does anyone know where you can get a digital version of the Japanese versions 2 bonus tracks?Comparing it to YFM’s sfx edit this is what I’ve got;<br><br>“The Mole” seems to be an alternate of the opening sequence. The first minute or so is used, while the rest isn’t. “We Need Our Army Back/Regimental Brothers” are both made up of several cues from different points in the film. <br>“Home” is completely different in the film, which makes me think it may have been recorded specifically for the album. Similar situation with “Oil”. <br>“Supermarine” is definitely a suite. The rest is chronological.<br><br>Interesting thing to note, it seems like a lot of the tempo changes/ticking effects/bass overlays were removed from the album release, making almost every track sound different from the actual film versions. The music in context has a constant pulse going, especially in the way cues segue into each other and change tempo.It's not really possible to chronologically order the album because the album doesn't use the same tracks as the movie. Plus, the album is more or less chronological anyway, given the areas where they are the same.<br>With the complete cue sheet out now. Does anyone know what the chronological order of the album would be?

I hope someday we have another Superman solo movie on the silver screen by the help of Chris Nolan and music composer Hans again !

nvictor reply Replies: 5 || 2018-08-01 13:00:21
hello people, do you know if the track "original sketchbook" was superman first entire arc? that would make some sense since other cues appear to have elements developed from it. also, any chance you guys know similar tracks in other scores?

Hybrid Soldier2018-08-01 13:47:46
The Sketchbook is indeed the original idea, the final version being actually called "New Superman v57" (it got edited for the OST release, but in fact the 4 minutes missing at the end of it are just the track "This Is Clark Kent", making the demo run 32 min). You pretty much have got everything in the demo, Superman, Clark Kent, Lois, Krypton...

Then, usually, Hans & his team will have a go and develop other demos based on this material. The "Earth" suite was done by Mazzaro, where he "guitar-ized" Clark's theme. Junkie basically took a part of the Krypton material of the suite and would develop "Zod & his gang / World Engine" ideas. The most interesting and unfortunately not released in any form is Atli's "Superman Theme v5.8", which develops Hans' Superman theme in a "punchy" version & really gave life to Lois theme in what would become in film the epic --Superman Saves Lois-- idea used in "Escape From Ship" & "Faora Attacks"...

mpolonest1232018-08-01 15:11:44
“Superman Theme v5.8” Wow, that sounds amazing! I always wondered if that string theme was initially meant to represent Lois or that was just some decision by the editors.

Hybrid Soldier2018-08-01 15:46:25
I honestly doubt it was meant to be Lois' theme in the first place. It's in the "New Superman" theme, but really as a sub thing.

Atli made it big & epic, and I guess indeed they (Hans, editors, whatever) decided "oh it sounds good for that rescue !" and de facto it became Lois' theme. I wonder if all of this was decided at the last minute, because none of the cues with the "Lois theme" appear in the soundtrack.

And that theme basically vanished in Bat V Sup, for some reason I don't know...

mpolonest1232018-08-01 16:38:56
That’s possible, especially if the “Escape From Ship” cue was actually a last minute piece.

However, the theme actually makes a mini cameo in BvS, at the tail end of the “Falling” cue right when Supes flies up to face Lex Luthor. It sounds heavily temped from “Alien Ship Arrives”.

nvictor2018-08-02 12:56:26
thanks, this makes me very happy Hybrid : ) i will be looking for similar tracks.

when i took HZ's masterclass he said something like developing an "arc". and composing like writing a "diary". but then in other interviews he said sometimes you want to write music as the film is being worked on. or even sometimes you don't get to know what is going on in the movie. so let's say there are various techniques. (this one would be a favorite)

also, Zod is my favorite villain forever.

Mike (OTM) reply Replies: 0 || 2018-07-18 22:18:08
Flight has a new Andrew Kawczynski credit...We're getting there!

mpolonest123 reply Replies: 0 || 2018-02-21 14:27:39
And THIS is why I love Zimmer. His little attention to details. If you listen to “This Is Clark Kent”, at 1:14 and 1:59 he inserts the Krypton motif subtly into Clark’s theme(s), suggesting that little bit of alien that’s there.

I hope Danny Elfman understand that Zimmer's Theme for Superman (AKA What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving The World?) is and will be the musical personification of THIS Superman. I love John William's Superman but the two themes are great, each one in his universe.

It's a fantastic melody (Zimmer's Theme) that always inspire me hope and joy, and not sadness like many people affirm.

Would be the best option ti resurrect Superman in Justice League.

mpolonest123 2017-10-02 17:53:05
True, but as we saw, Zach Snyder had no idea how to handle that theme at all. After building up to it in MoS, he completely backtracked in BVS and only used it in that "Day of the Dead" variation (and even then that was just a dark variation on the theme). I was hoping Whedon would let Elfman give it a heroic spin again, but who knows at this point.

Hybrid Soldier2017-10-02 17:57:25
No Hans told me he wanted to use it but just could never find a scene in Bat v Sup where he could actually do it...

mpolonest123 2017-10-02 18:27:59
And THAT'S one of the biggest issues with that film. Instead of allowing a nice balance of darkness (Batman) and hope (Superman) you instead end up with a depressing mix of darkness. And the music reflected that, there were hardly any moments that would compare with "Flight" or "What Are You Going to Do". It was definitely an issue on Snyders part, not Hans...

Mortifer V.2017-10-03 04:01:04
There's no issue in having a "depressing mix of darkness".

Mike (OTM) reply Replies: 1 || 2017-05-09 03:14:58
Hybrid, you might be able to clear this up. The main tune from Arcade: did Hans or JXL do that? Cause JXL said in a "Studio Time" Batman v Superman video that Hans asked him to come up with a rhythmic device for MOS, and what he came up with was the rhythm from Arcade....but that started as a Hans tune, if my understanding is right.

So did Hans do the main Arcade tune, then JXL used that tune as a rhythm, or did JXL come up with the rhythm, and then Hans wrote a tune over that?

Max Potcats2017-05-09 10:26:18
I watched the last Studio Time too, and I understand that Hans make the "orchestral part" and ask JXL to make the rhythm with the drum orchestra after.
But yes, I hope that Hybrid can clarify that too ;-)

Macejko2016-05-13 20:57:19
This is actually a really good question. Anybody?

Ronit2016-06-10 15:02:00
This music was playing when Zod and spes were fighting fiercely in metropolis . The fight that ravaged the city to the ground .

Mike reply Replies: 4 || 2015-07-05 18:46:34
So hearing JunkieXL's scores recently, this has really made me wonder...did Zimmer *really* work on the Arcade and Zod theme suites, or are they really all Junkie and Zimmer's name is a nice formality? Because they don't sound especially Zimmerish *anyway,* yet they sound identical to JunkieXL's recent output. ;)

Zimson2015-12-24 14:23:53
Junkie did some drum programming on MoS as far as I know. Given his top credit on Dawn of Justice it would be no surprise if he was involved a lot in the first one.

JamesT2015-12-24 19:48:28
Involved a lot in the first one? Isn't he basically co-credited on almost every track for MOS?

Anonymous2015-12-25 22:59:13
He's responsible for Zod's theme

Hybrid Soldier2015-12-26 23:02:52
He scored a lot of MOS, and then scored Zack Snyder's next movie (300 ROAE)...

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 5 || 2015-04-13 21:16:24
So the credits to Batman V Superman have been released on the official website, and it says "Soundtrack Album on WaterTower Music"...

What am I supposed to do, create a page for it 11 months too early ?? loool

MrZimmerFan2015-04-13 21:36:00
Hybrid, in the credits says: 'Music by Hans Zimmer', what happened to Junkie?

Hybrid Soldier2015-04-13 21:38:02
Don't worry, he'll probably do most of the score... ;) lol

...2015-04-13 22:07:11
I hope not;) Batman is enough!

Mike2015-04-25 16:28:09
Honestly, I hope not, too...JunkieXL's parts were some of the weaker parts of MoS, IMO.

Grazie, I think, Amiga - I guess I was looking for a concise list of whats new vs. the old - you know, like *Previously Unreleased flags on cues exclusive to the sessions. I'll keep looking, since I don't see that for some reason! Have a chocolate bar on me ;-)

RealFfingMusic2015-03-11 07:27:54
@Medigo, "You Die or I Do" is a major part of "Final Confrontation", and "You Led Us Here" is "Zod's Story (Part 1)"

That is what I meant

I was watching an interview with Junkie XL and he said that he and Hans produced the score for months before even writing material. What exactly does he mean by this? What is producing a score versus writing the score? Thanks!

Hybrid Soldier2015-03-12 08:41:33
Choosing the sound palette, mostly... What samples, instruments to use, what could fit the movie...

Edmund Meinerts2015-03-12 10:17:32
I love how you can spend months tinkering with the sound palette and what comes out at the end still sounds like synth demos...that's amazing.

Well, Tom (Junkie XL) tweeted that he is composing the trailer music with Hans for the Batman v Superman trailer coming with Mad Max: Fury Road. I am going to be honest, I am extremely excited about seeing and now HEARING the trailer! I think Man of Steel gets a great deal of undeserved flack. I personally found it an excellent score both inside and outside of the film. But anyway, enough of my thoughts. Curious to hear about all of yours in anticipation of the trailer!

Mike2014-10-28 03:21:56
I know Hybrid doesn't post anything unofficial, but it's a pretty safe bet that "What Are You Going...", at least, can be credited to "Hans Zimmer". ;) But then, even there I guess someone else could have done the slight alterations...

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-28 08:26:22
Actually I know 2 cues for fact that are Steve Mazzaro & Andrew Kawczynski, but they're not in the OST.

And I suspect something like 2 or 3 cues being Atli (actually not on OST either)...

Just wondering but did Junkie XL have anything to do with Lois's theme? Watching Divergent recently, there is an unreleased cue which is almost identical to "Lois Investigates"

Hybrid Soldier2014-12-05 18:57:35
No he didn't... I guess just some temp left in Divergent made that... And the Lois theme is in the Sketchbook...

mpolonest1232014-12-05 19:44:01
Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. Is it the background strings starting at 11:55 in the suite?

Hybrid Soldier2014-12-05 20:08:29
Yeah, I don't even think it was supposed to be a proper theme in the film...

Some guy probably "Hey not bad let's use it !" and rearrange it in a more badass way... Too bad none of these made it to the OST... :(

mpolonest1232014-12-05 20:53:17
Yeah that is a shame, probably some last minute cues after the album was pressed.

It reminds me a bit of the OSCORP theme in Spidey 2 or the "nature out of balance" motif in The Lone Ranger, not really heavily featured on album.

Mike2014-12-05 21:41:02
Speaking of the Sketchbook suite, Hybrid, do you know what the 7 minutes of it cut from the album are (you said the original was 35 minutes)?

NotSoAnonymous2014-11-27 02:51:06
I'd assume not very far, or not even started. He is most likely working on 'Chappie' since that is done filming. I have no idea though.

Man of Steel for me is one of Hans Zimmer's best works...From look to the Stars, to This is Clark Kent, to Ideal Hope and of course Arcade...all i can say is wow! I have no patience with internet nitpickers who have not composed a cellphone ringtone but are now experts at criticizing a legend in our time. Currently enjoying the interstellar soundtrack...Could you please bring that organ to some of Superman. Especially the sounds on STAY, had a superman heroic feel. Keep up the good work!

Interesting....

From filmmusicreporter.com

Hans Zimmer revealed in an interview with Comic Book Resource that he will be collaborating with Junkie XL on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The composer mentioned that Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg will be providing music for the Batman character, while he will take care of Clark Kent/Superman. Zimmer previously scored Snyder’s Man of Steel. Junkie XL composed additional music for Man of Steel and also worked with Snyder on 300: Rise of an Empire. Zimmer had previously expressed hesitation to score another Batman movie when he was first asked about the project given his involvement with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Batman v Superman starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter is set to be released on March 25, 2016 by Warner Bros. Pictures.

If Zimmer will make Superman his focus here, he BETTER make sure to develop his theme a good deal! It'll be so disappointing if we just get rehashes of MOS material once the score is done. Please, Mr. Zimmer, really make the Superman stuff count.

Hans Zimmer2014-11-05 13:31:17
You got it Mike. I'll do exactly that.

Mike2014-11-05 16:26:32
Oh, if only it were that simple....lol

Adrian2014-11-06 04:52:59
Hans Zimmer V Junkie XL...I like it

JunkieXL vs. HansZ: Dawn of Iconic Themes

I hope the themes will be more developed before the closing scene, UNLIKE Man of Steel.

Brent2014-11-11 01:46:06
The Music from Man of Steel was fantastic, so I have full faith in Zimmer continuing to expand the sound, music & feel he started with that wonderful score. Junkie XL did a fantastic job with DIVERGENT too, so I have no worries that he will create a great new Batman theme, music & sound for the new Batman.

sorry to chip in again : )

the best theme of Man of Steel for me is General Zod theme. what do you think ?

it always remind me how music can bring out a character. just like Hans Zimmer did for The Joker.

every time i listen to General Zod's theme only one quote comes to mind "I was bred to be a warrior, Kal. Trained my entire life to master my senses. Where did you train? ON A FARM?"

being a composer is my dream...

Interview with Zimmer about Batman V Superman!

spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2014/11/03/hans-zimmer-on-his -inters tellar-leap-of-faith-and-scoring-a-new-batman/

And the Batman-guy is... Junkie XL!

Impatient Fan2014-11-03 19:06:13
I really like this idea. From what I've heard from Junkie XL, I've really enjoyed. I'm just hoping it's something very iconic, it may not last forever as one of the great themes, but as long as the theme is very easily identifiable. I'm on board.

...2014-11-03 19:52:25
Oh Crap...

I actually like some of Junkie's music, but for him to handle Batman...we'll see

Mike2014-11-04 01:34:05
Ah, my original idea (that Zimmer would have someone else work on Batman) was correct! As for it being JunkieXL, judging by his contributions to MOS, I find this news to be....somewhat disappointing. Still, looks like this series will have a "tradition" of JunkieXL having a heavy role (since he did a lot of the Zod stuff here in MOS, and will do Batman's music in the next one).

I wonder, is Zimmer eventually planning to hand this series to JunkieXL, so that he doesn't need to be tied down with Justice League films? :P

greg reply Replies: 1 || 2014-11-03 20:12:26
It's batman god damn it, he can score john maclane or godzilla i dont care but batman has to have a theme. Hire Newton howard of James Horner instead please.

Ds2014-11-03 21:42:35
And what exactly makes you think Junkie XL is not going to write a theme for Batman?

victor reply Replies: 2 || 2014-11-02 14:41:30
hey all,

pardon my ignorance but looking through all this comments, i just have one question. what is a "cue" ? i can't find any good definition for what it is. is that how you guys call a track on a score ?

thanks.

Hybrid Soldier2014-11-02 15:06:54
It is a track... Most people wrongfully call them "songs"...

But it's a score cue... :)

Victor2014-11-02 15:14:30
that was fast. thanks Hybrid, you're awesome : )

I hope Zimmer does another long "sketchbook" suite for Batman v. Superman! It's really cool to hear all those demo ideas.

Lambegue2014-10-30 20:28:37
There are more and more suites on Zimmer "big" releases lately : TASM2 had two of them on the special edition, for example. So I suppose your hopes have a fairly good chance to be fulfilled.

Lambegue2014-10-30 20:29:39
(I mean, suites presented as early works. I know that there were in fact soundtrack suites in Zimmer albums nearly since the beginning of his carreer)

Joshua reply Replies: 9 || 2014-07-27 05:36:25
Hybrid do you know if Hans had any involvement in the BvS DOJ teaser at Comic Con? Was a really cool percussive track.

Hybrid Soldier2014-07-27 09:45:41
He wrote that indeed !

Joshua2014-07-27 19:54:46
Oh hell yeah! lol Thanks Hybrid.

@Hybrid
Interstellar trailer #3 from Comic Con was released today.
Did HZ do the music for it? If not, who did?

Hybrid Soldier2014-07-30 20:03:47
Thanks a lot bro !

I'll ask him but honestly I have 0 doubt it is his ! ;)

Frank2014-07-30 21:02:42
I found the music from that trailer is really similar to MoS. Also, does the music in the teaser has anything to do with the final score? Cuz I really love that music

Hybrid Soldier2014-07-30 22:32:48
Hans said : "The trailer is NOT my music! You won't hear our score until you see the movie in a cinema. It's important to us to give everyone a fresh experience by not having given any of it away...Plus, you need really BIG speakers. Really BIG!"

lol

Anonymous2014-07-31 16:09:20
What did the music sound like ? Did it use the main MOS theme at all ?

Anonymous2014-08-01 22:48:16
The music in the BvsS DOJ Teaser I mean :P

Anonymous2014-10-25 19:53:12
as for the previous comment, it was percussion along the deshi basara mold, nothing very exciting

Does anyone else think the last part of General Zod is great?

Anonymous2013-07-01 21:38:31
It is

Radik2013-07-03 13:46:00
Best from whole soundtrack :)

Henry2014-10-23 23:50:53
Do any of you guys know if that part was in the film itself? I really want to find that scene and I've been looking everywhere!

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-23 23:53:14
Nope it's not in the movie... Could have, should have probably !

Mike2014-10-24 00:03:43
I could picture it being used during the last scene with Zod....or even during the final fight scene as a whole (give it a "Beckett's Death" cue kinda feel), but I wouldn't wanna trade "If You Love These People" for that.

Henry2014-10-24 00:09:17
Damn... I agree it is the best in the soundtrack. Thanks!

bro2014-10-24 03:20:23
It is in the movie. It's called "If You Love These People".

Anonymous2014-10-24 04:50:42
@bro: false

bro2014-10-24 07:11:46
Yeah too bad I've got the midi files to compare the two, they are both based on the same material. Just like the "Water"/"H2O" theme from angels and demons is just a reworked version of "Malleus Maleficarum".

Mikkel reply Replies: 0 || 2014-10-16 13:22:56
