It's nothing short of a masterpiece, a modern opera. The choir is beautiful, and the choice of gospel for the first track gives it a unique identity, though I'm not sure how well it meshes with the orchestra. It feels a bit off, but will hopefully improve for me on further listens.

The composition, has to me, elevated Powell to the status of the second best living composer (Williams is still first for now). It's pure orchestral beauty and mastery with variety of texture, color, and style, with seamless tonal transitions. The complexity rivals some of the great works of the past.

It's strange to me that this is called "choral works". Sure the choir is an important element, but it really should be named "Hubris Symphony", or "Hubris: The Opera", because that's the status the album deserves. My Attempt at a chronological order with edits (feel free to correct any mistakes or if I missed anything)

1. Rogue One is a bit of an odd one. From what I'd heard, Desplat had joined on the condition he'd be allowed to do his own thing and not ape Williams. But once they decided to overhaul the film, they pressured him to go that exact direction. Things stayed still for a while (in which he still got paid) before he was finally let go very late into production. So the idea he sorta just left is interesting, so I'm curious to hear what that was about.

For BW, it seems very likely to me that Marvel simply were unsure about Alexandre's music, so I'm guessing they hired Balfe to do some demos and decided from there. Who knows what the exact timeline is, but I'd wager it'd have to at least be this year if he's been on it a bit. Especially with AD's name having stayed on the posters during it.Hybrid, Desplat left Rogue One just for his own idea? I know he left that movie beacuse schedule conflict for the reshoots.
But for Black Widow seems that the replacement was since months ago with Lorne writing and recording the score at the same timeht tp:// filmmusicreporter. com/2020/04/01/ track-list-for-disneys-live-action-mulan -soundtrack-album-revealed/

Why release a tracklist for an album that won't be released for another 6 months at least. That's just a punch in the gut, in my opinionSo it won't be a last minute and hasty job?No idea but he was on it for a bit, I think.

If the movie is critically acclaimed, it could bring Hans another Oscar nomination. Not that i care about Oscars but... yeah I'd love to see HZ win once again.

I don´t like that rock song that I heard from the previews from other artist... but I like that tracks that it sounds like Mission Impossibl 2 OST... Nice! Like "Scuderia" "Watkins Glen" "Loose Cannon"

Samples !

Prott2013-08-15 01:21:00
That sounds fantastic! I especially love "Reign" and "Into the Red". Can't wait to hear the score together with the picture. :)

Only thing that kind of puts me out of the listening experience is the use of "old" RCP synth brass in "My Best Enemy", but I'm sure HZ knows why he used it (and it's going to sound much more appropriate when listened together with the movie).

Sounds great -- can't wait! Love the hints to MI:2 I hear....

al bundy2013-08-15 09:41:38
so much rock and e-guitar... don't like this at all but that's probably matter of taste.

...2013-08-15 10:09:43
Some samples are really nice, but a little bit too much guitar and rock music...

isildur2013-08-15 11:26:24
Sounds great! Heavy use of guitar, though. Maybe it's because of the times the movie is set in. I believe in 70's rock was hugely popular.

I think it will sound even better when the full score is out.

How come there are already 67 votes in the rating? Where did they hear the soundtrack?

Edmund Meinerts2013-08-12 15:54:54
Welcome to the reason never to trust the user ratings on this site. Honestly, the least they could do is close the voting poll up until the score actually hits stores.

Mike2013-08-12 16:22:56
Indeed, we shouldn't be allowed to vote until the score is able to be heard fully.

I Like The way Zimmer has been doing his films Lately and i think this film has a lot of potential to bring out the best in hans Being a music composer myself hans is one of the people I look up to and admire because he knows how to work the music into the film. and because he's an awesome composer. The Thing I Don't get is why people say that he uses only one note. the thing is that he doesn't he uses motifs and uses them in important parts of the film. to create an amazing feel. With the way he's been doing his scores lately this one ought to be a killer

I hope that cello part that you hear in the 2nd trailer is on the soundtrack

Mike2013-08-12 04:07:00
Well, Man of Steel had the score in its various later trailers starting with the third one, so it's quite possible that what you hear in there will be on the album.

Edmund Meinerts2013-08-12 15:56:17
That cello theme sounds to me a lot like the first Transformers score (almost like an alternate of the All Spark theme or something), so naturally I hope it really is what the score is going to sound like!

Mike2013-08-12 16:22:18
Edmund, you like the Transformers score? I'm not saying this insultingly, but it seems like that has too much of the modern RCP sound to be your thing. But then again, it was 6 years ago.

Edmund Meinerts2013-08-12 18:09:59
I LOVE the first Transformers score! All those fantastic's much closer to a 90s MV score than a modern one. It's like Batman Begins with power anthems and it's glorious. :D

Normally, if I heard WaterTower was releasing the score I would be disappointed, because TDKR, Inception, and Sherlock Holmes 2 left a lot to be desired as far as soundtrack releases went. But Man of Steel had a truly excellent album, so I am willing to be optimistic.
