Does anybody know if one of these tracks includes the theme played when Spider-Man watches Gwen going to a bar with friends and then sees a fire in a building ? It's a piano theme, also heard in the youtube video "Scorring Spidey". Thank you :)
My mind was completely BLOWN after watching The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 3D earlier this morning. Hans and the sinister six composers have done an AMAZING job. It's a pity that most of the tracks are not in the original soundtrack or Deluxe Edition. Let's all hope for either the complete film score or music from the recording sessions.

Once again, ONCE AGAIN...
When you say : "the complete film score or music from the recording sessions." it just doesn't make any sense... Because it's the same thing, and it's actually called Final Mixes... :P

I agree here completely, there is a part in the film *SPOILER ALERT SORRY!* When Gwen dies, the music piece that plays during this sequence and then in the mourning shots after are not in the OST at all. In the film it is played with very quiet keys and there is a female choir vocal used subtly too which just sets is off brilliantly. It's the piece I most wanted to hear again but for some reason it's not been included :(

My bad, Soldier... and you're right.
And djd711... I'm with you on the track not found in the original soundtrack. The one part that cracks me up is **SPOILER ALERT** when Hans and his musicians compose the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" portion. LOL I really want this track!
Hybrid Soldier
2014-05-04 08:45:04
djd711 there's a very good reason the cue at the end with the vocals by Olivia Safe is not included (nor is she credited on the OST) on the OST :
It's a last minute idea that was added to the movie while the soundtrack was actually ALREADY pressed...

Does this mean we may expect a re release one day with all the tracks used? That would be brilliant!
Hybrid Soldier
2014-05-05 20:50:08
Well Hans told me he was considering doing digital downloads for new material since he has a lot of leftovers... But, you know, knowing Hans, the idea is gonna vanish somewhere and we'll never see it happen... lol

You'll just have to keep reminding him, Hybrid. ;)
Hybrid Soldier
2014-05-05 21:06:57
Well I had luck with Inception, but that was 4 years ago... I've given up on him unfortunately... You have no idea how much I have been "keeping remind him" for little releases for say, 12 Years A Slave or Mr. Morgan's Last Love... -_-
Edmund Meinerts
2014-05-05 22:31:11
I can see why Hans didn't want to release 12YAS though. Weird experimental stuff and the same Time/Journey to the Line ripoff cue over and over again...yeah, not the most album-friendly score out there.
Mike
2014-05-05 22:32:08
I agree, but I would still love to hear Mr. Morgan's Last Love.

There's got to be some good stuff that didn't make the cut of the album, though.
Just saw it in the IMAX format today and the movie was pretty good overall, and the score fit pretty well. The only thing that got nixed was the barely audible vocals for "My Enemy" during the scene it was used for (might've been the audio in the theater but who knows). I'm also pleased overall with the warm reception this score has gotten. And just to think that a little under a year ago there were those who were going bats*** crazy over the fact that Hans took over this franchise and were shredding the poor guy, pre-judging the score and expecting something like Man of Steel. I'd be happy to hear what they have to say now. ;)
Mike
2014-05-03 05:31:03
Curious what we have to say now?
Well, for me, I'm very pleasantly surprised overall. :)

The Electro theme is very interesting, but it gets annoying pretty soon when in the movie. Overall, this soundtrack is just another cheap, post-modern Zimmer score. You know I like him, TDK is my second favorite soundtrack of all time, but he is lost.
Edmund Meinerts
2014-05-03 16:57:04
I used to think the same as you, Joker, but I think he's starting to catch himself again. Lone Ranger, Rush and TASM 2 are all pretty good scores to me.
And I'm not sure what in this score constitutes a "cheap, post-modern Zimmer score", a moniker I think Man of Steel deserves, but not this. This has innovative electronic usage, no samples overdubbing the orchestra, woodwinds, a trumpet fanfare theme...not things you frequently see in Zimmer or Zimmer-like scores lately!
thejok3rrules
2014-05-03 17:21:29
I'm glad he uses this trumpet fanfare thing for Spidey's theme, but it sucks. Simplistic, non-engaging... Far, far behind Horner's score.
bro
2014-05-03 17:38:51
Those are some pretty wild, ignorant comments.
Man of Steel wasn't /that/ bad, and almost everything the joker guy writes is giving me cancer. I don't agree with you at all.
Edmund Meinerts
2014-05-03 17:47:30
Zimmer's theme is no more simplistic than Horner's.
Ty Scott
2014-05-03 18:09:13
Yeah, it's still a simple trumpet fanfare whether you go James Horner or Hans Zimmer. I mean I do like Horner's theme a little more, but Zimmer's is great as well. Electro's theme was actually the highlight of the score for me. Turning dubstep into a competent theme takes a little creativity, not cheapness. This album here proves he's still one of the best composers in Hollywood.
And by the by, I think we can all agree this might be the closest Edmund will be to liking an album that has Junkie XL's name on it, at least for now. lol
thejok3rrules
2014-05-03 18:28:33
Listen to the score, seriously. There are some good ideas and ''ok'' developpement, but my opinion remains the same: It is just a collection of sounds put together.
Edmund Meinerts
2014-05-03 18:34:50
Actually, Ty, I thought Divergent was decent...but yeah, this is probably the best score so far to have his name in the booklet somewhere. :p
Wait, hang on...didn't he do additonal music for Kingdom of Heaven? Never mind. How the heck did that happen, by the way?
Hybrid Soldier
2014-05-03 18:47:09
As much as I like Horner's, Spidey 1 lacks a big highlight sequence like the Time Square / My Enemy film/score mix... This is brilliant on screen...
Ed a lot of people work on HGW's scores, and many manage to get lost in the crediting process... I don't think he did more than percussions on KOH though... lol
Ty Scott
2014-05-03 18:53:13
Yeah, he goes as far back as helping out on Shark Tale with Hans when it comes to RC. I think he then had him work with Gregson-Williams for a little while cause they worked on Domino that same year.
Hybrid Soldier
2014-05-03 19:00:03
No he didn't help on Shark Tale... Some of his music was used as source but he didn't work on that score... But he arranged Klaus's Catwoman... :P
Ty Scott
2014-05-03 19:04:41
Ouch, big step up there for him. At least the soundtrack did good for that......thing.

''Saving New-York'' from the complete score was nothing but great.
KT Koskela
2014-05-05 11:40:23
I agree. I saw this in IMAX as well (though in much better 3D than the first one as well), and DAMN! Listening to that score in IMAX was so mindblowing, especially at the Times Square sequence when we heard My Enemy.
So that guitar riff is Johnny Marr, the vocals are Pharrell (and Dom Lewis), the grungier guitar stuff is Mike Einzinger and, uh, everything else is Hans? :p
Cool video. I think it's very good that a fresh director like Marc Webb can go to two almost polar opposite composers, Horner and Zimmer, and get an interesting and enjoyable score out of both of them. He clearly has very good musical instincts and appreciates what a score can do for his movies, and that's good to see. :)

Hi Hybrid I'm curious, over the past years Lorne has been helping on nearly every score (madagascar, the dark knight, rush), and then he's not on 12years a slave, not on spider man, and not on interstellar????what's going on??Is he leaving rc?
Hybrid Soldier
2014-05-03 13:09:42
You know he has his own career to handle ? He's busy enough... You can't just spend your whole time helping HZ for 15 years... :)
But if help's needed, he's still around to give a hand... ;)
Dudu
2014-05-03 13:38:18
Yeah I get that ;) I like his music and I really hope he gets his breakout score(like jackman on captain america or jablonsky on transformers), it's about time :) Back on topic the score of this spider man really fits the movie, I wasn't sure about the main theme and the electro sound(especially the voices), but it's perfect...
Edmund Meinerts
2014-05-03 14:23:08
In what universe is Captain America Jackman's breakout score? Wouldn't that be X-Men? A score that, you know, is actually halfway good?
Ty Scott
2014-05-03 18:13:15
Well Ed, CC did give Winter Soldier a rather generous 2/5.....
Dudu
2014-05-03 19:16:56
@Edmund, you didn't get what I meant. When I said "breakout", I was talking about boxoffice numbers and/or film popularity. To say tha first class is jackman's breakout is like saying that the island is jablonsky's breakout imo. very good scores that prove they can handle big budget movies on their own, but on movies that earn below expectations or go unnoticed. zimmer had rain man, gregson-williams narnia, jablonsky transformers, djawadi I'd say clash of the titans(crap movie but it brougt some cash lol, and I don't say iron man beacause of the mess it was...), and for jackman I think winter soldier is "that" movie. you get my point?
Ty Scott
2014-05-03 19:35:25
I see where he's getting at. But if I had to find a breakout for Jackman, according to what you mean Dudu, I'd say Wreck-It Ralph or Puss In Boots. Both made oodles, got Oscar noms, and Ralph was a killer seller on iTunes.
Edmund Meinerts
2014-05-03 19:38:43
I guess I get it. I still think that X-Men: First Class was a big enough movie to qualify as a big break ($350 million). And if not that, then Wreck-it Ralph. Plus I really doubt Cap 2 will be fondly remembered for its music.
Ty, yeah, I know. I couldn't believe that either. For all of its weaknesses, Man of Steel's score was still much better than Cap 2. Chewing on broken glass is better than Cap 2.
It feels like Zimmer, But can anyone please tell me what is the name of this? I am suggesting is from 0:48-2:02 this is the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbp3Ra3Yp74 I am just having such a hard time finding this part of the music.
I hope the recording sessions or the complete score leaks soon. So much nice music missing from this release...
Saurabh
2014-05-03 13:53:50
Yeah. The slowed version of There He Is at the beginning, then the Spidey saving people scenes music is missing. There's a string version of the Spidey fanfare in an action scene towards the end.
Any one find it ironic that in one of the new "Recording Session" videos for this score, Hans is wearing a shirt that says "The Dark Knight" and has a little Batman symbol on the back? :P
Hybrid Soldier
2014-05-02 18:58:12
He loves that shirt, he always wears it ! :D
Mike
2014-05-02 18:59:25
Wasn't he wearing a Superman shirt during one of the Man of Steel sessions? Now he needs a Spidey shirt! lol

2014-05-02 19:16:08
The superman shirt said "SuperHans" I think
Levi
2014-05-02 19:24:30
What's next, a shirt that says "The Amazing Zimmer-Man"? :P
Yeah, well, guess what. The majority of Zimmer's scores aren't his best. That honor can only ever go to one score! :p
(And that score is At World's End)

Except that 2's action music repeats a lot from 1, and 3's doesn't...and 3 has that stunning love theme that 2 doesn't...and the Asian stuff...and the really good Cutler Beckett stuff...and it's better orchestrated (not that that means anything to you)...
The only thing I can think of that 2 has that 3 doesn't is the Kraken. Which is admittedly awesome.

2014-04-30 18:37:31
I might be in the minority here, but I do think that "Gladiator" might be Zimmer's best score. He provides both powerful action cues as well as a beautiful, soft theme in "Earth". The vocals of Lisa are fantastic and add a great deal of depth to the music. That score has to definitely get some love guys! :D
Edmund Meinerts
2014-04-30 19:34:31
Gladiator is definitely up there for me. Although it was one of my first scores and I've played it a lot, so these days I don't listen to it that much. Then again, that's also true of AWE and I never get sick of that one! :p

I was comparing POTC 2 & 3, not saying that these are the best HZ scores... Because they are not... :)
Mike
2014-04-30 21:05:14
Instead of a debate about POTC 2 vs. POTC 3 which will not actually be agreed upon universally (even though I'm with Edmund here), I propose something which EVERYONE can agree on:
POTC 2 and 3 (and 1, for good measure) are VASTLY superior to POTC 4. xD

Gotta love these debates. Pirates 3 and Angels & Demons take the cake for me.

Objectively, the biggest of his career is Gladiator.
Ds
2014-04-30 21:35:47
Hybrid, what is his very best score in your opinion?
I once read an interesting interview where Hans was telling that he really outdid himself on At World's End... because he was a little bit ashamed of some portions of Dead Man's Chest =D
For me, At World's End + "The Kraken" are among Zimmer's best works, and I know I'll never get tired of them. Never, never, never.
Ds
2014-04-30 21:39:44
Yeah Gladiator is his biggest and also one of his most famous ones... But these days I don't listen a lot to it, I can't really explain why.
NM
2014-04-30 21:44:46
"and it's better orchestrated" - I think that's what makes At World's End stand out for me. The really crisp, dynamic orchestration. I think POTC2 is good if you want to hear more rounded versions of POTC1 material.
"POTC 2 and 3 (and 1, for good measure) are VASTLY superior to POTC 4." - POTC4 is hideous.
Brent Ray
2014-04-30 21:48:37
The only decent portions of the POTC4 score are Mermaids and Palm Tree Escape, and even those are rehashes of old material.
Hybrid Soldier
2014-04-30 21:54:56
As I said I can't really answer what is very best is...
But there's one I deeply adore, which is simply a masterpiece of scene scoring (despite the film having some real WTF moments). Even Hans is proud of it :
The Fan
It's the first score with Tillman's cello and it's like, when you listen to it all, the DNA origin of half of his scores in the 5 years after that... :)
Ds
2014-04-30 22:16:23
Thanks for the advice Hybrid, it's one of the few I don't know. It's a Tony Scott movie, cannot be that bad. Plus, it's got 1/5 on filmtracks: it should be good.
Hybrid Soldier
2014-04-30 22:18:47
Well Filmtracks only reviewed the poor OST suite (which BARELY contains the crazy piano Gil theme which is all around the score) and a crappy bootleg...
With only the OST suite I wouldn't rate the score very high either... But as usual Hans puts all the good stuff aside...
Edmund Meinerts
2014-04-30 23:48:29

Gladiator is probably the youngest classic in film music history. The score has its ups and downs, but the theme from Barbarian Horde and the one from Honor Him are truly on a Beethoven level. Objectively, this is his best score and he arranged almost all by himself. if you look up his profile on IMDB, it says that he is known for POTC 1, The Lion King, The Dark Knight and Inception. These are most likely part of his top five scores, although he is uncredited for POTC 1.
I would choose this as an appropriate order:
1. Gladiator 2. The Lion King 3. Curse of the Black Pearl 4. Inception 5. The Dark Knight
Personally, my top five of favorite soundtracks with his name on it (apparently not scores) looks like this:
1. Sherlock Holmes 2. Kung Fu Panda 2 3. At World's End 4. The Dark Knight Rises 5. Inception

"Objectively, this is his best score?" Sorry, there's no such thing.

@Ed Sure, there is for example popularity, critical reception, ratings and many other things that are considered to be objective.

I agree with you Ed, about objectivity... I don't believe in that either...
But we have to admit, on Zimson's criteria, that Gladiator is up above everything else. Of course At World's End got the same kind of high praise, but what failed to make it at the level of Gladiator is the film itself. Gladiator is a cult classic, while most people thought POTC 3 was a huge mess haha...

I love The Fan as well, really hope La La Land or Intrada will release a complete score.
When I first heard it, I was at the height of my Hans fandom, as well as my NIN fandom. For me the score was a perfect blend of both styles.
Ds
2014-05-01 11:06:28
Hybrid you're right. The reason Hans is known for Gladiator, Pirates 1, Inception or The Dark Knight (according to imdb) is only because these movie are popular. That's it.
If you ask me I'll tell you that the best Pirates movie is the 3rd one... and I think its soundtrack's got a lot to do with this appreciation. Also, Verbinski's direction was confident, daring, bold, that's what made At World's End feel different than a "simple, funny pirates movie". And I guess that's why fans of the 1st one were a bit upset.

Zimson, all you're "proving" is that it's his most popular score. The fact that something is popular or well-rated or well-received does not mean that it's the best; witness One Direction. Popularity might be objective, but quality is not.
How many people, even Zimmer fans, have heard something like A League of Their Own? That's one of my absolute favorites of his. Does the fact that it's obscure make it bad? Of course not!

If zimmer had to chose himself I'd say he would probably pick 'the thin red line'
Zimson
2014-05-01 14:28:26
@Ed I agree that popularity isn't an indicator for the quality of the music alone, since there are many factors which made One Direction popular. However, objectivity as I understand it, concerns any opinion that derives from the "outside world", usually opinions a broad amount of people agree on. I put Gladiator on the first place because I made the experience online, that most people seem to agree on this score being his best work.
Edmund Meinerts
2014-05-01 15:04:38
But that's not what "objectively" means. For something to be objective, it has to be empirically proveable. What you're talking about - a broad number of people agreeing on something - is consensus. And quality of music simply can't be proven - sure, you can talk about how complex it is or how well-structured or how many themes there are or how original it is or even how many units it sells, but in the end, how "good" music is will ALWAYS come down to personal opinion.
Zimson
2014-05-01 15:35:03
@Ed You're talking about the scientific objectivism, but there are different means of objectivity, for example in journalism linguistics, etc. Let me explain what I mean: You, the subject, are looking at a three-dimensional body, the object, of your size. From your point of view the body has four corners with equally long side lengths, therefore you identify it as a cube. Another person looks at it from the back and identifies it as a sphere because it is round and has no corners on that side. Now, the point is, if 10 people look at the body from the back and only you look at it from the front the body will be considered as a sphere by the majority of people (although it is both sphere and cube).
This is how I define objectivity/subjectivity: Objectivity: How others perceive sth./sb. Subjectivity: How one person perceives sth./sb.
E.g.: Clemmensen's reviews are subjective while all critics together are objective.
Ds
2014-05-01 18:00:37
Zimson, so one person's opinion is not objective, but if you put 1000 subjective opinions together, they suddenly become objective? By no means it will become objective. It provides you a general trend, but nothing more.
The online popularity of Gladiator's score is highly dependent on the fact that Gladiator, as a whole, is a hugely popular movie that many have seen. Since it has also memorable music, the amount of people liking its soundtrack and saying "this is the best from Hans Zimmer" will obviously be important. Does it make it the best soundtrack by HZ?

Zimmer's been making top-of-the-class scores for more than 20 years. We should say best for each type of film.
One can put:- Action/Crime : The Dark Knight Rises Adventure/Comedy : POTC: At World's End Animation : The Lion King And so on.
As for an absolute best one, no single score will even secure majority.

"How many people, even Zimmer fans, have heard something like A League of Their Own?"
A League of Their Own is a really enjoyable score. Completely different to anything I've heard him do since.
What did Pharrell do on this score? I mean obviously junkie xl provided beats and Johnny marr guitar, but the rest sounds like Zimmer to me...

Wow, no one here said "it was done by the dark person" LOL I said it was 'urban slang' because, well, IT IS! Look it up on Urban Dictionary .com and you'll find it. I've never heard an educated scholar utter the words "he/she is hating on me"
Edmund Meinerts

I'm not even that sure the lyrics are "he hates on me". To me it sounds more like "hates-a", as in they just had to slip in an extra little syllable to match the rhythm (and not as in sounding Italian).
Once again I watch the movie, and I have more clear the correct music order. YES, You can trust in me ;)
01.There He Is (More dramatic music variation in film) 02.I´m Spider-Man 03.Cold War 04.Ground Rules (Some variations in the first 30min) 05.Look At Me 06.Harry's Suite(SmallCut use to introduce Harry and Norman) 07.You Need Me 08.I Chose You 09.So Much Anger 10.My Enemy 11.You're my Boy 12.I'm Moving To England 13.Special Project 14.I Need To Know 15.Sum Total 16.We're Best Friends 17.Still Crazy 18.I´m Goblin 19.Let Her Go 20.Rest Of My Life 21.You're That Spider Guy
The tracks I'm Electro or Electro Suite, really doesnt have place in film, only variations of this. But I'm Electro could be a great opening credits music, but you know, doesn't exist opening credits scene in this movie. HOPE YOU ENJOY....While, Waiting For Complete Score. Regards...

Please don't spoil the movie for people. I have seen the movie, but there are some who haven't so spoiling such a major thing seems rather insensible....
Sad to realise that the Enemies Unite trailer music (02:15 - 03:33) is actually an edited/mixed rendition of 'My Enemy' & a bit of the 'Electro Suite'. The actual music is from ELECTRO SUITE and the choir from MY ENEMY (echo-y/reverbed instrument is entirely absent). I had hoped the trailer version would be the final version.
You're That Spider Guy is a beautiful piece well done Hans anyone agree with me.

Kinda hard to prove something like that on a site where you could literally put "Hans Zimmer" as your name and no one could really tell otherwise.
Does anyone know if the digital version of the soundtrack is crossfaded, or were those taken out like with Man of Steel? The crossfades make putting the album in film order rather irksome.
Anybody else notice the TDKR percussion beginning at about 6:20 in Harry's Suite?
Adam
2014-04-24 02:49:26
Yup. Shot in the dark, but it got me thinking that maybe Andrew Kawczynski was in charge of it. Doesn't sound like HZ IMO, kind of sounds like Lorne, plus that beat is from "Underground Army"...
So, does anyone know the chronological order of the tracks?
Russel
2014-04-23 22:58:19
It's way beyond my ability, because it's really confusing. Like it starts out the movie with a slowed down version of There He Is, then it goes to unreleased cues, I'm Spiderman, and then has like an excerpt of You're That Spider Guy...I think when 'The Rhino'?? is driving the truck in the city, then Gwen's theme picks up (which is like a variation of We're Best Friends and then when Electro or Max Dillon is walking around the city with his blue prints there is excerpts of The Electro Suite (I think?) heard throughout him being on screen. And then when Electro goes to the city and first faces Spider-man, well the My Enemy cue is definitely split up between this part of the movie and when he faces Electro in other scenes in the movie. I think There He Is is when Gwen searches Max Dillon's info at Oscorp..Just my input.
Ds
2014-04-24 00:10:03
I know that the beginning of the movie is: There He Is (Unreleased cue, opening scene) I'm Spider-Man Cold War No Place Like Home
And at the end, merged into each other: You're That Spider Guy It's On Again
Anonymous
2014-04-24 01:33:36
Wasn't Cold War the cue when Paul Giammati was driving the truck?
I saw the movie yesterday. I have to say the score is absolutely TERRIFIC, it works very well with the pictures. The most outstanding part being the Electro theme, a crazy and insane piece of music that defines just perfectly the weirdness of the character. Hans and his team did it again. I knew it would be good, but I was amazed by how brilliant it actually was in the movie. I recommand this experience to all Zimmer fans, even if, like me, you have just about zero interest in this new Spider Man movie.

Mike, why would there be the Electro Suite if My Enemy was not a cue ?
Mike
2014-04-21 17:50:53
Hey now, TDKR had several suites similar to each other (A Dark Knight Suite and The End, a couple Bane suites, the two Moody Bruce suites...). It's not so far fetched.
Mike
2014-04-21 18:10:03

Ds
2014-04-21 18:13:39
Mike, "My Enemy" is a cue. This is why there are some abrupt transitions in it. Not ideal for a standalone listen, but in the movie it's gorgeous.
By the way, the cue as heard in the movie is a bit longer and contains additionnal parts in the middle.

Mike, i really don't know. I've seen the movie only once and it's quite difficult to tell. At least all thematic material is well present in the album. Most of the missing cues are just small variations, nothing important, I'd say.
And yeah, the entire opening scene is missing.
