The end of that track has a direct reference to The Chamber of Secrets theme from the second film.I GOT HIS AUTOGRAPH!!!!!!Dark Phoneix is more playable than Dunkirk, more thematic in my opinion, and don't agree with that opinions saying are the same, specially when Dark Phoenix has more in common with the early 2010s and some of the 90s score by Zimmer.I don't find the similarities between Playful Secrets and Home Alone, mostly the track (and the most part of the score) reminds more to Danny Elfman than John Williams, even Goldsmith, which his synthesizers sounds, are pretty unique, much more than Jablonsky in this score, but i give that sounds like a 80s synthesizer. Please Inception be next!!<br>There are tons of music in the film that didn't make it to the soundtrack.

Here we go again...

bro2014-11-01 20:30:57
I already pre-ordered my tickets through my IMAX already, sucks.

Ds2014-11-01 20:43:21
I really don't get why Hans told all that stuff about "being completely surprised by the score when we see the movie for the first time"... Apparently the main theme is the teaser trailer music, the IMAX trailer featured also new music, now they are giving a free track...

Gunther2014-11-01 21:04:06
Oh no, now they come up with these commercial give-aways, again. I don't believe that these songs will be on the 2 disc version.
This reminds me of Tron, where the 2 disc version wasn't complete either and you had to buy exklusive songs from amazon, iTunes and others. Really annoying!
Anyway, how does it sound?

NM2014-11-01 21:06:44
Could just be the same as the "Day One" on the OST?

Mike2014-11-01 21:51:39
Don't be too concerned, Gunther! For MOS they gave away "Flight Part 2", but that was just the second half of "Flight", so no one was missing anything.

Impatient Fan2014-11-02 01:46:24
Yeah, I've been constantly checking all day.

Anonymous2014-11-02 04:33:47
Just ordered tickets and got the track....

WOW!! Clocks in at 6:57 - begins with what sounds like a thunderstorm (rain and thunder effects)....then transitions into something like the beginning of Walking Through Limbo from Inception, then female choral, followed by low register piano chords and then BAMM - this BIG church organ. Gets very rhythmic and the same verse essentially repeats and builds. Very dark, great synths! Sounds apocalyptic! At first listen, the second half reminded me of a spooky carnival/Funhouse theme. I'm loving it!

badbu2014-11-02 09:17:08
OH MY GOSH!!!!!! This is amazing!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous2014-11-02 09:25:43
Hans at his best!

Hybrid Soldier2014-11-02 14:58:45
Yes I do ! :)

Mike2014-11-02 17:29:11
Dude....I'm not gonna lie...this song is pretty creepy! Awesome that the last half really uses the trailer theme, though, and I wasn't expecting so much organ! :D

theeaglesfan005 2014-11-02 18:44:52
Am I the only one not hearing "the trailer theme"

This sounds nothing like the teaser trailer or any of the other trailers

To my knowledge only the first teaser trailer was HZ

Mike2014-11-02 19:20:08
Listen very closely to this track and you will find that it does, indeed, include pieces of the teaser music (though it sounds very different in loud and ominous organ form).

Drunkenmunkey2014-11-02 19:34:41
Am I the only one that thinks the beginning sounds like Godzilla's score? Erhmergerd November 5th come closer!!!

meta2014-11-02 23:40:17
what the hell is this? Sounds like horror music or something...

This is his score for the movie?

He's kidding, right? This sounds like the soundtrack to a friggin Universal Horror movie....

mcshipmaster2014-11-02 21:49:44
Well, turns out that the teaser trailer song is actually the theme of the movie...So we allready heard some bits ;)

theeaglesfan005 2014-11-02 22:15:25

the teaser trailer music and the track

guy incognito2014-11-02 23:36:29

Do you think (or know if) the tracks are going to be in chronological order?

greg reply Replies: 12 || 2014-10-31 11:07:29
I saw the movie at the premiere yesterday.

About the music:
It's a bit like the thin red line in space, cresendo music, several notes but not too many. Really ambient music, not bombastic like MOS. The theme in the trailer is used a lot, in fact it's the main theme. Waiting for the cd release to really get into the listening experience. The music is linked to the movie but yet i dont understand why it has to be delayed 2 weeks..

Edmund Meinerts2014-10-31 11:57:49
"Several notes but not too many."

If they ever make a sequel to Drop Zone, that had better be a cue title.

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-31 12:02:55

babdu2014-10-31 12:40:38

badbu2014-10-31 13:37:25
thx, but it is a nice score? do you like it?

greg2014-10-31 14:11:38
Hard to say because it was really done for the movie, I have to wait for the cd as I said to really have an idea about it. IMO it sounded a bit too synthetic, not "human" enough. Scoring a space movie is very difficult though but thank god it doesnt sound like gravity. But I think the people who like his bombastic work ( MOS ASM Inception or Batman) will feel a bit lost with this one.
And one more thing: There s not that much music in the movie so i think that with the three upcoming editions we will all have a very complete representation of the music in the movie and of course more unreleased stuff

badbu2014-10-31 14:24:13
thank you very much :-)
I hope i like the soundtrack...i'm afraid :-)

Mike2014-10-31 14:55:32
Nice one, Edmund.

I'm not surprised that the music is on the more ambient side, and I'm happy to read that the trailer music is heard frequently. :)

bro2014-10-31 15:59:57
Hans Zimmer's probably released some of the greatest ambient film music ever produced, as a fan of the bombastic stuff AND the ambient, slower or synth stuff, I think I will be very pleased with this release judging by the reviews and the fact that he's implemented his great church organ writing again for some of the themes as well.

The heart of Davy Jones, anyone?

theeaglesfan005 2014-10-31 17:42:05
Are you talking about the music from the first teaser trailer?

And it has been said by Zimmer that he wants people to experience the music for the first time when they see the film.

Also the Japan release date is Friday November 21st.. the OST release date is Tuesday November 18th... so sort of makes sense to release the it the last opening week date

JamesT2014-10-31 18:02:22

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-29 23:17:57
The 2h+ boxset will have everything if you ask me...

guy incognito2014-10-29 23:31:57
Let's hope!

The film's production notes are available now. According to them, the score's "backbone" is the pipe organ, joined by woodwinds, brass, strings, and piano. No mention of synths but I'm sure there'll be some of those too. ;)

And it was recorded at Temple Church in London... I wonder if that's only partially, or if there were no AIR sessions on this one.

It may not be 'complete', but it doesn't need to be. If it's anywhere NEAR as comprehensive as 'Man of Steel' then that's good enough for me and should be good enough for anyone.

I'll certainly be buying this (I might have to get one of my American friends to send it over for me though!)

If they are indeed using the Disk 1: Score, Disk 2: Suites, format again (or something similar) then I'll be very happy!

The reviews are pouring in guys and it sounds like a game-changer!! :D

Bluegill 2014-10-27 18:12:54
Some selections:

"Hans Zimmer contributes one of his most richly imagined and inventive scores, which ranges from a gentle electronic keyboard melody to brassy, Strauss-ian crescendos."

"Aided by Hans Zimmer's energizing score — a far more colorful effort than the intentionally abrasive ones found in earlier Nolan collaborations—"Interstellar" is Nolan's most well-rounded movie to date."
"Anyone who thinks they know what Nolan's other frequent collaborator Hans Zimmer is capable of should be pleased with what he brings to "Interstellar" which contributes to its unique sonic identity as well as drawing out the most emotion possible in the more dramatic moments. There are times when Zimmer uses an enormously bombastic pipe organ to drive the tension and emotions and other times, he uses a more subtle approach. Still, it's a fantastic score, easily one of Zimmer's best, and it helps to elevate Nolan's magnum opus well beyond where it might have been."

Ds2014-10-27 18:18:09
My God, that quote from my anticipation level just went sky-high. 9 fucking days to wait for the movie... and then 10 other days for the soundtrack album, I just can't wait anymore!

Mike2014-10-28 00:20:01 had me at pipe organ!

NM2014-10-28 02:26:40
"It's exciting to hear just how out-of-his-comfort-zone Hans Zimmer is here, and it works to the movie's advantage. It feels like a score written from a very direct and emotional place, and it helps cement the yearning that underpins so much of what Nolan shows us in the film"

Whatever about the film, which I'm desperately trying to avoid spoilers for, the score is beginning to sound pretty tasty. Sounds like the jungle drums and ostinati really did get thrown in the bin!

I had no expectations for this score up until a week ago, now my interest is very much piqued.

I'm guessing a Deluxe or Collector's Edition is in the works, just not public or posted, as of yet. ANother element of surprise?

Mike2014-10-24 22:14:17
I seem to recall TASM2 being only revealed as a 2-disc release a little later....time shall tell.

Ds2014-10-24 23:31:18
People are starting to talk about the movie (and its score) on the internet! People who have seen it, of course.

I won't spoil it since I guess some people want to be fully surprised, but according to some imdb comments, the music is incredible and radically different from all past Zimmer scores!

Frankfurt2014-10-25 11:59:59
In Germany it's out three days earlier (Spidey was even 11 days earlier on the market).

The latest blockbuster from SF maestro Christopher Nolan is one of the most widely anticipated movies of the year.

Reunites the acclaimed director with his composer of choice, Academy-Award Winner Hans Zimmer. His list of celebrated scores includes 'Batman Begins', 'The Dark Knight', 'Inception', 'Man of Steel', 'Gladiator', 'Black Hawk Down' and 'The Last Samurai'.

This powerful and evocative music is a must-have for all fans of the most in-demand composer in Hollywood and for collectors of classic film scores.

1 Disc
Interstellar music less important than superhero music confirmed

Edmund Meinerts2014-10-24 21:01:00
Quality > quantity, my friend. ;)

There will probably be more additions as the movie gets closer, but even so, I'm loving how short the music department list is on IMDb! :)

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-23 22:29:44
I wouldn't be so sure... And it's not of importance anyway, the result is...

guy incognito2014-10-23 22:38:29
Oh of course, it just adds to my excitement to see how close to the chest Hans played this one!

Mike2014-10-23 23:49:43
We may indeed find, contrary to all the "Zimmer alone" reports so far, that Andrew Kawczynski did some cue arrangements. Because whoever the "Sequencer Programmer" was on previous Zimmer scores would often end up being an arranger... ;)

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-23 23:51:52
I asked Andrew what he did, it's indeed some arranging & editing, usual with Nolan films : taking suites & cutting them to picture... Don't think much notes are his though...

Mike2014-10-23 23:52:58
Will be interesting to know more details next month! :)

Anyone know when the OST will be released?

Zimson 2014-10-21 06:49:29
Approximately 2 weeks after the movie premiere (Scroll down)

Room2014-10-21 09:25:38
Release date should be 2014-11-18.
Does anyone know the tracklist?
I hope there will be an Extended Edition like TDK, MoS and TASM2.

badbu2014-10-21 12:02:14
a complete edition would be nice :D

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-21 12:35:34
Well for sure this time they won't have any excuse to leave out anything good, the score got completed a while back...

On MOS or Spidey, some great cues were missing cause they were done AFTER the OST program was set...

Mike2014-10-21 16:06:26
I'm with Hybrid—I hope this is a VERY well-rounded release.

Speaking of that, what wasn't done on MOS when the OST was set? You said for TASM that the "Rest of My Life" film version was a later idea, for example...

badbu2014-10-21 18:26:36
thanks hybrid :-)

Mikkel2014-10-21 18:33:01
but whats's with inception, potc etc?!
there are many cuse missed on the official score... :)
same as MOS and spidey?

Hybrid Soldier2014-10-21 18:52:37
Escape From Ship, I discussed about that with Andrew Kawczynski, who had a hand on it... Told me it's a last last minute cue...

And Mikkel, I'm just considering the recent trend of 2 CD releases... I have no doubt (though Hans didn't want to confirm, secret secret once again lol) Interstellar will be a 2 CD set...

Medigo2014-10-21 20:51:55
Its also a fact that single CD releases cant cover everything

Adam2014-10-21 21:55:53
Can we not get lame remixes on the second disc, but actual tracks/suites used in and written for the film? That'd be nice for a change. Half of disc 2 from TASM2 was Alicia Keys and Pharrell and all that crap lol

Mike2014-10-21 23:51:20
Yeah, I'm expecting a 2 CD release (MOS and TASM have set that bar), but I won't get my hopes up till it's confirmed.

Leo2014-10-22 19:27:55
Pharrell's song "Here" is the only song, besides the score, worth listening to. "It's On Again" is meh, so is the rest, IMO. :V

Room2014-10-22 19:43:24
I wouldn't be surprised, if one of the tracks (maybe the final one) is called Space, since it would fit to Inception's final theme Time. Any other suggestions?

NM reply Replies: 7 || 2014-10-17 09:53:24
"Even as the film approached its release date, Nolan strived to unlock that mystery. He and composer Zimmer conducted 45 scoring sessions for Interstellar—triple their number on Inception. Most of those were just for experimentation. Old habits were abandoned (goodbye, action-scene jungle drums), new sounds were sought. “The core of the movie is about the quest for adventure,” says Zimmer. “It seemed only right to throw everything out and make it all about invention.” When they had finished, Nolan presented Zimmer with a watch. On the back he had inscribed, “This is not the time for caution.”"

Starting to get really intrigued about this score, and really looking forward to the movie.

Anonymous2014-10-17 16:32:06
And apparently Zimmer wrote this score, in whole or in part, based on a one-page letter Nolan gave him in an envelope?

Edmund Meinerts2014-10-19 12:35:14
Goodness, when you put Nolan and Zimmer in the same room, the levels of pretention are enough to blow the roof off.

I'm curious about this score/film for sure, but guardedly. I've never been as enamored with the Zimmer/Nolan collab as most here, it seems.

heisenberg2014-10-19 17:57:17
People who claim to see pretension in others seem to often themselves be the pretentious ones.

Observing some of your internet activity beyond this site confirms that.

Edmund Meinerts2014-10-19 20:42:26
What is that supposed to mean?

Mike2014-10-19 23:01:18
It does seem rather....overly sensational. Especially considering that they're not letting us hear anything from the score or telling us anything about it. It's purely designed to pique our curiosity and get us hyped up, without really telling us anything. I'm excited about the score, too, but if it needs to be so secretive, why bother with weird stories about a watch Zimmer got or an one-page letter he wrote the score from? :P

Leo2014-10-22 19:26:18
Pharrell's song "Here" is the only song, besides the score, worth listening to. "It's On Again" is meh, so is the rest, IMO. :V
