And if that were the case, filmmusicreporter would have announced it already, anyway.@DS Possible, but you are right, it could be film release, but why he put hashtags by #soundtrack? I have to wait till filmusicreporter announced for Ad Astra, but if not happen by the soundtrack tomorrow, then, I have to wait till the confirm from the news.@Anonymous: Are you sure Lorne mentionned the soundtrack release, or just the film release? His posts I've seen just say "Ad Astra is released on the 20th"... Pretty sure he means the film.<br><br>@Ahmad: Totally agree with what you wrote. It's an overall dull score, with some nice ideas that go nowhere. A few bits are obviously Lorne (like the opening cue, beautiful but how original is it to use an organ for a space scene?). And a few bits are obviously Richter, who is really on autopilot here (Hostiles - Mary Queen Of Scots - Werk Ohne Autor are nice scores, but all constructed in the exact same way). And the majority of it is quite anonymous, just ambient sounds far in the background. Also it seems like what they did with the score, they did it with the screenplay as well, because that's a freaking mess that doesn't seem to know which kind of movie it wants to be, and ends up being quite flat on all sides. Quite disappointing. Awesome visuals, though, but it's already been seen in the likes of Sunshine, Gravity, Interstellar, The Martian... all vastly superior pieces of cinema.<br><br>Anybody haven't you seen two new tweets update recently by Lorne Balfe from his twitter it said Ad Astra soundtrack will released tomorrow. So Zimmer being listed as the main theme composer at the top of the page is inaccurate too? Why the heck is the second disc not included in the download? I was counting on that for the possibility of the docking scene being on there.

And the fucking Z+ App is not even available yet...

im wondering if I should buy the soundtrack now or wait until I see it again. Not knowing it beforehand still leaves that mystery and gives off more emotion, like a surprise. But I loved it so much!

Oh well....I'm lucky I didn't buy any version of the OST.

"imperfect lock" I believe

hardvibes2014-11-18 06:04:51
read all the comments on this page. This particular track is missing. It's not Imperfect Lock. And no of course it's not Day One Dark either

I heard all of them , including the deluxe version tracks

Highlander2014-11-18 06:25:14
It's not "Imperfect Lock", as was mentioned below many times. Docking scene track consists of mix of "Day One Dark" and the end of "Mountains" track, as somebody noticed down the comments also.

I believe this track will be on "Illuminated Star Projection Edition".

HalfLucan reply Replies: 0 || 2014-11-18 03:45:10
The soundtrack as it currently stands has all of the tension of Interstellar but none of the emotion.

Considering how the Day One Dark cue's contributed to the emotional pay off's in the movie, the fact they are left out both versions is absurd.

Arima Toshiro reply Replies: 0 || 2014-11-18 03:18:54
This soundtrack is amazing but like most people are saying its missing the cue from the docking scene. I don't understand why it's not included in the soundtrack. Makes me a bit disappointed. Hopefully they release it eventually.

I just listened to it and its not it. Its not on deluxe album.

Guitwo2014-11-18 02:01:36

Edmund Meinerts reply Replies: 4 || 2014-11-17 23:52:39
I haven't heard the score on album yet.

But I'd just like to say that I find it kind of mind-boggling that with all of the lavish deluxe ultra star projecting five-dimensional releases and such that Zimmer scores are favored with these days, they still somehow manage to leave out a cue as vital as the docking sequence. Even if it ends up being on that last release, it's still pretty much a sham designed to squeeze every last drop of money out of the consumer (and it fails at that, because all this is going to do is foster more illegal downloading). It's the same crap that they pulled with the Tron Legacy release a few years back.

I hope Zimmer had nothing to do with the decision, but it wouldn't be the first time he sanctioned an unsatisfactory album. :/

I really liked the score in context, by the way (and great movie, too).

Adam2014-11-18 00:05:26
"Unsatisfactory" - nice choice word there. AGoS comes to mind!!

Arnost2014-11-18 00:08:41
My words bro! They gave the song name the "imperfect lock" and the docking piece (and also the most important) of music is not there? DISSAPOINTED!!! Do not buy it! rather dowload it because what you want to be there the most...it is just not there! :(

NM2014-11-18 00:19:25
@Edmund I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here, and say from an amateur composer's perspective...

"a sham designed to squeeze every last drop of money out of the consumer (and it fails at that, because all this is going to do is foster more illegal downloading)"

While I agree with the thrust of this point, I would have to say that a lot of people are quite self-entitled and don't feel they have to pay anything for music until the release hits some arbitrary standard that ever changes. That's the reality of digital of course, we can't put the genie back in the bottle. But even if the release was 100% complete, I guarantee a lot wouldn't pay. There'll always be a reason not to!

I don't really see how:
"Oh it's missing 1 track, so I'll just take the other 19 for free because you didn't give me *that* one, you fuckers".

is a more principled stance than:
"We'll deliberately leave tracks out to get people to pay more for them later"

***

"but it wouldn't be the first time he sanctioned an unsatisfactory album. :/"

See, I think "Interstellar" is one of the better albums. The deluxe tracks are nice, but all redundant from an album perspective, given most of the material is satisfactorily explored in the first 16 tracks. Even for someone who likes complete scores like me, I think the first 16 tracks is a good album as is.

The single sticking point for people is that one cue, which is basically a slightly adjusted mix of two cues that have already been released, is missing. As unfortunate as that may be (for me it's not a massive loss, but I understand others legitimately feel differently*,) I wouldn't put that at the same level as terrible 35 minute releases, or releases missing dozens of important moments, or releases stuffed with shit remixes no one wanted.

*To be clear: I think people who paid for it, to hear that specific music, do have a right to voice their disappointment

bro2014-11-18 00:24:43
I paid for it and i loved all of the other tracks, and I don't really regret paying for it, but I just really want closure on the Spinning Dock cue, because while it may be this movie's equivalent to inceptions "Kick" sequence cue, (a music editor's mix of two cues + some added sound effects etc that were never released in any way including the complete score even though we have the suite and other film versions of the separated tracks) it seems like this one shouldn't have to go the same route of being forgotten now that there's a ton of demand.

"You should receive the link to download the *Interstellar Soundtrack* as well as the download code for the Z+ App on November 18th. Yes, it will take 8-10 weeks for your order to be processed."

emphasis on *Interstellar Soundtrack*. That isn't a conclusive answer and that's why I think we're waiting till december because the people running that comment section are assholes who sidestep the questions

It's always the same with Zimmer. Always he leaves of the best tracks. In Pirates 3 it was Liftoff on MOS it was Escaping the Ship/Saving Lois. Now it's this one. My list goes on and on. It seems he does it on purpose to annoy fans.

Almost never ever I miss vital tracks from every other movie composer I like, but with Hans it's everytime the same. Yes we get apps, 3 different ultra deluxe special editions filled with repetition and all the slow ambient stuff, demo tracks, suites and all. But core tracks everybody wants are never there...

Sigh...

Medigo2014-11-17 21:20:23
well 'best' is subjective

Ds2014-11-17 21:23:57
That's true... Zimmer's releases tend to be polished, with a lot of advertising, bonus content and goodies, but ultimately there's always something great missing. With most other composers, the soundtracks get quietly released (on time!) and there's nothing to complain about, all major music is released. It's almost like Hans doesn't know himself what the best cues are.

JackieStewart2014-11-17 21:24:49
@Anonymous

I'm sorry but I have to agree with you.

This time though I'm MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED. How could they leave that track out? Insane... insane...

Adrian2014-11-17 21:26:55
I admire Hans Zimmer, but this seems to be a constant. Most composers show the world all his music without many super deluxe editions with repetitive music

Anonymous2014-11-17 21:26:57
Maybe we should all start complaining on the WaterTower Music facebook page in the hope they release it as another extra "bonus track"

bro2014-11-17 21:27:59
I already bitched on the watertower facebook page among other things. This isn't going to be pretty. A lot of ordinary movie goers are also looking for this track who wouldn't normally be looking to buy a soundtrack and it's going to look real bad for watertower.

First score without 'additional composers' in years then? I don't even mind the 'additional composers' thing honestly, but I noticed there's a lot more of a cohesive narrative and singular voice in this score than some others recently, and it's a lot more satisfying for me as a result.

I think the tracks being in film order helps as well.

Gunther2014-11-14 16:48:40
Yippie! I love the music played when they are on the water planet. The moment we see the big wave that reaches to the clouds: BRAAAM! And shortly thereafter when TARS rescues Brand and the strings come in: goosebumps!

Anonymous2014-11-14 17:20:04
So..some country can listen the standard 16 track album ? ...hum hum

theeaglesfan005 2014-11-14 17:24:34

Medigo2014-11-14 17:42:32
Well then its only a matter of Time before it finds it way online

bro2014-11-14 17:46:03
Instead of bragging can you possibly upload a few tracks for people?

I've already bought the 45 dollar physical version but it doesn't ship for a while.

Remy2014-11-14 17:48:20
I'm serious. It's suppose to be released next monday here, but they have it in-store.
I'll listen to it tonight and I'll tell you what I think of it ;)

Medigo2014-11-14 17:49:44

theeaglesfan005 2014-11-14 17:50:37
@bro

Yeah me too.

They are emailing a code on the 18th for a digital download (hoping it's for the full 2+ hour edition) and also a code for the Z+ app

Remy2014-11-14 17:51:57
I'm not bragging... I just want to let you guys know it's available in France.
I'll try to upload all of them later today, but I can't right now.

Jazz2014-11-14 18:01:22
Come on, upload it and don't be a dick, please.

bro2014-11-14 18:03:29

Anonymous2014-11-15 01:50:39
Hybris is French

Peculiar2014-11-16 16:38:07
Remy being called a "dick" for not uploading is rather ridiculous. As is inferring that he's bragging. Grow up.

Hans Zimmer is a true musical genious

Anonymous reply Replies: 11 || 2014-11-15 19:22:59
I went to see IS again yesterday to try and give the score a fair second chance listen and I have to say I'm even more convinced now that it is just not that great. Aside from the simple (admittedly pretty) reoccurring theme, most of the rest of the score is just a lot of loud monotonous notes being played for long periods of time. Maybe the release will be reorganized to make it more of a pleasurable listening experience. At least I hope so.

Naji2014-11-15 20:08:05
which ost you like from hans???

Anonymous2014-11-15 20:49:35
Probably at least 90% of his scores I like. Scores such as: Gladiator, Crimson Tide, The Last Samurai, even some of the Batman and Sherlock Holmes scores were good and his work on The Pacific was great too. I just think since Inception, he has become too experimental and the beautiful and powerful epic scores he used to do are a thing of the past. Just my opinion.

Naji2014-11-15 21:01:39
for me interstellar is perfect and same level with inception but in Different Direction. specially message From home Masterpiece it's so simple but so smart notes and heart touching.

Anonymous2014-11-15 21:12:47
Yeah, I think "Message From Home" would indeed be the highlight but didn't you think there was also a great deal of undefinable and very loud dissonant filler music? I sat in the theater and kept waiting for a really epic sounding main theme to appear sort of like what James Horner did for Apollo 13 but I never heard what I was hoping to hear. I'm sure I will still buy the score since I have all of HZ's other scores... maybe it will grow on me.

Anonymous2014-11-15 21:42:27
160BPM is best thing i ever heard from Mr. Hans Zimmer.
sorry but i dont like james horner, boring and his brain out of stock hehehehe.(jfk)
my list.
Hans Zimmer
Joe Hisaishi
John Williams

Anonymous2014-11-15 21:45:14
I only like a few of James Horner's scores, Apollo 13 just happened to be one of them. What is 160BPM?

Medigo2014-11-15 21:46:40
you didnt hear the Main theme enough already?

Naji2014-11-15 22:06:29
its a track from Angles and Demons.
and if you dont know joe hisaishi try some of his tracks.

Anonymous2014-11-15 22:39:56
Oh okay thanks. I do have the "Angels and Demons" score but its been so long since I listened to it I forgot about that track. What scores did Joe Hisaishi do? I don't think I'm familiar with him. I think Brian Tyler and Harry Gregson-Williams are probably my favorites after HZ. I'm really starting to like Edward Shearmur's scores lately too.

Guitwo2014-11-16 02:19:54
why is that? does cooper need a main theme? he should not be doing a main theme just for fun. it has to be meaningful to the film.
i think day one, stay and day one dark are enough motifs to fill the movie.

Naji2014-11-16 10:48:04
Anonymous.
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Castle In The Sky
Howl's Moving Castle
Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind
best albums joe hisaishi.

Ds reply Replies: 6 || 2014-11-15 14:02:32
I wonder on which basis they picked up the tracks they wanted to include in the "regular" edition. Why leave out some significant cues that appear once in the movie (like the docking scene), and yet include so much repetition?

Is it me, or are the first 3 minutes of "Dreaming of the crash" and "Stay" quasi-identical?

"S.T.A.Y." ends also just before what is (in my opinion) the best part of the scene.

Fortunately I think the extra tracks will fix that. But anyway, for the people buying the regular album, it should be kind of frustrating.

Medigo2014-11-15 14:07:16
The answer is Money

also those 2 tracks do sound similar, but that could just be because of the wind sfx

Hybrid Soldier2014-11-15 15:28:57
Ds, because one CD can't run more than 80 min ?

Mike2014-11-15 15:34:08
Ds, if I recall correctly, the end of S.T.A.Y. was tracked music from a previous scene (or maybe that was one of the "additional" guys' arrangements added late in the process?).

Ds2014-11-15 16:12:50
Hybrid, I know that, but I don't think it's a good explanation, since apparently there was enough room for repetition (like I said, 3 minutes of music almost exactly the same, note for note, in 2 different tracks).

I know that for some movie they have no choice but leave out some important material (like At World's End, for instance). But here, they clearly had the choice, hence my question.

ZZ2014-11-15 17:15:08
I think the missed end of "Stay" is the end in "Coward" no??

theeaglesfan005 2014-11-15 21:01:15
Because S.T.A.Y. is only the beginning of that scene... I'm sure the rest of it is on the deluxe edition
