I agree. I don't think he's anything special. His greatest strengths lie in cool themes and especially rhythmic hooks or ostinatos, but I don't think he's yet written a consistently good score (often some wonderful individual pieces contained within an otherwise bland whole, which describes pretty much the entirety of the Game of Thrones music among other things). I hear positive things about The Great Wall, though.

Macejko will, of course, disagree.Ramin is overrated!Just found this link from his twitter . Music in it is cool
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HHCk2q6UqYEAny news about his score for Detroit . His music made BeyondPaesano's okay but I was actually hoping for Djawadi to return (not so often I say that, but this is his best film score IMO, and only topped by GoT S6 overall).
excellent sound mixing, Thanks
I hear the hand of Hans in each noteHello Doponko,

I've been searching for this soundtrack for years and have been unable to find it anywhere. Wound you consider sending me these tracks or telling me where I can find a cd?
Who cares about this sequel! Ramin has Westworld and Game of Thrones:) Way more awesome IMO!

I actually think that Ramin does his most interesting work in television.I'm greatly surprised that the great Herbie Hancock is also in this terrific scoreYes, Paesano is a good choice, but for Ramin it would be better..... He would be the better option in my eyes ;)
John Paesano is an underrated composer. It's a good choice.I can't play the music, although I did play it before, what happened? And it sounds great! It also seems like the original end titles are included as well.

One interesting thing, the mix sounds a bit different in the samples. The percussion and brass are both more pronounced I think.I'd love to have Ramin back on this one too, but I'm glad to see Paesano attached to it.. He's a very underrated composer I'd love to see get more opportunities to shine. There's a sample of this cue on their site :)
FUCK! :(Finally, LaLaLand has done it! Many kudos to them!!!! One my holy grails as well. I've been waiting for this for ages!
Take my money LaLaLand Records! Just take it!John Paesano is confirmed to score Pacific Rim 2... shame I was hoping for Ramin to return.I saw Hidden Figures this weekend and as a former adolescent NASA geek from the 60's I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the stories. There were only two places in the film where the music grabbed my attention. Those times were after John Glenn's lift-off as he climbed into orbit and when he had his ticker tape parade. Can you tell me, is that a snippet of Carmen Ohio I am hearing?" If so, it is a great tribute to Sen. Glenn and his love for the Buckeye State. If not, chalk it up to failing hearing and an vivid imagination.I have to agree with Leona: Leona Lewis' "Now we are free" is like the rock band Queen after Freddie Mercury has died: It's so unique, not a single singer will be able to match it. The closest was the singer in the initial Hans Zimmer Revealed Concerts in London.

The prodigal son returns! I like Atli a lot, sad that he doesn't get the same sort of assignments that Balfe/Djawadi/Jackman do. But this sounds pretty good!

Epic work by Atli! For me one of his best.

It's nice to listen to, but I don't really think it's one of his best. It makes for a better album than e.g. The Eagle, Babylon A.D. or Season of the Witch, but there are individual themes and moments in those scores that far outshine anything in Bilal (there's nothing here to rival "Crusades", "Babylon Requiem" or "The Return of the Eagle"). And I don't think it's anywhere near Mortal Instruments, which is his best overall score so far.

Still, like I said, it's a decent score and nice to hear from a guy who's been MIA for so long. Just not the glorious return I had hoped for.

For those "shocked" by Inferno, here's some excellent old school adventure score by Atli. :)

I still don't understand why Atli doesn't get some nice, big projects. He has so much talent. Liked the suit. I hear a bit of Prince of Egypt, which is a good thing.

I was not shocked. Just disappointed to be proved again that Zimmer lost his touch to write decent, memorable music.

Morgan Joylighter2016-10-28 05:45:56
RE:Anonymous, he has done no such thing. Interstellar was only two years ago. And the second half of Inferno contains plenty of music which is AT LEAST decent, but it seems most people are tuning out before they get to the good stuff. Zimmer fans these days are so spoiled...twenty years ago the same score would have been considered mind-blowingly epic. How many times does the poor man have to reinvent himself before fans will be satisfied?

Morgan Joylighter2016-10-28 05:46:47
And I'll add he simply hasn't been hired to write the "memorable" music recently. You can't accuse him of losing his touch for simply doing his job as he is asked.

Edmund Meinerts2016-10-28 11:01:35
That's the thing - he doesn't have to reinvent himself every time, in my eyes. I wish he would sometimes just kick back and do what he does best.

Also, a lot of the "decent" stuff in the back half of Inferno is only so because it's straight reprises of DVC and A&D.

Anonymous2016-10-29 11:36:55
Exactly. Recent years he tried to pull a Madonna. Change and experimentation for the sake of experimentation and looking and sounding like 'I am so edgy, I still have it'.

Like every artists his best work was in the middle part of his carreer.

The good stuff he releases recently are usually rehashes or reprises of magnificent works he wrote many years ago.

Also Hans used to be special with his synthy approach years ago. But these days every videgame, movie or trailer has it so it is total not special or exciting anymore.

But each has their own opinion :p

As for Bilal. Awesome work!
