Take a listen at some of his work on animated movies (Home, or his work on KFP2-3), it's definitely not to work of someone without imagination.

On Fallout in particular, I honestly think he makes the best use of the classic themes in the series. That's maybe not "imaginative", as these themes aren't his, but it's definitely clever and not something every composer can do. Even an experienced guy like Michael Giacchino had 2 stabs at this franchise, and yet failed not only to give a memorable score, but also failed in using these classic themes in such a fun way.JohnWilliams Started out or rather got more into the realm of composing being doing Tv SHowsMeistermind - what’s wrong with being a TV composer ?

You sound like those idiots on Film music forum that think they know so much .The keyboard comment is exactly the nonsense said.

Fallout is one of the best action films ever in my opinion with a brilliant soundtrack.

Balfe is what in the 80s you might have called a TV composer. He has skills to get the job done but no imagination on anything. There'll be a few live bongos in the next film, a lot of supposedly live brass that sounds exactly like my keyboard, and no imagination.

That's the seemingly Chris Nolan way they want to go here. But if McQuarrie and Cruise are sticking to their mandate on making every film different, well how about (they are not going to go full Lathimos whatever), trying the Jeremy Dyson way, and go for Frank Ilfman. How about being more creative, Mansell has burned his bridges but still does excellent music but how about Richter, he can do anything, or even a Murray Gold. If you hire a pointless HZ flunkie, we'll get someone good, This used to be fine, but now with these dingdongs it is increasingly difficult
Balfe did produce both !!!!!!!!!!so ofcause they would sound related
Fallout was an excellent film and great soundtrackIn my opinion this soundtrack is very different than the others.
Six films and five composers, with a different styles and this soundtrack is very different.
For me it's a great soundtrack but the sound is too similar at the dark Knight and Dunkirk.Have to agree about Balfe and Fallout being the best mission score.would be interesting to see what he would do with bond or even Star Wars.
There seems to be comments on twitter that Balfe will be doing the score live at the The Royal Albert Hall.anyone know ?If you want modern, have Ludwig Göransson score the movie. Him or Don Davis. If you want to stick with RCP, I would love to see Benjamin Wallfisch take a stab at it based on his work on King of Thieves.Hello team, i would just like to add to the thank-you's, throughout the years you've been roxxin the world.
anyways i particularly enjoyed "time" but not for the movie instead it was used as an AMV on youtube for the japanese anime Zetsuen No Tempest. the story is epic suffice to say that it + time blew my heart away then and there.
So thank you very much :D
...but modernLalo Schifrin certainly didn't need Lorne Balfe to make him sound cool. Now that would be an interesting to hear what he could do with Star WarsModern and cool? Seriously Balfe is the reason why the theme works? Let’s have balfe re write Star Wars to make it modern and cool.I think Balfe has to come back because Fallout was the first since Mission 2 the music worked. He made Lalo’s theme sound modern and cool.
It's out there.Reef 2: High TideSerenity going to be released next week

https:/ / www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KZGKX4K/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl ?ie=UTF8&tag=filmusrep-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativ eASIN=B07KZGKX4K&linkId=b932ee0afd97cf3be04f644cad294734I watched again and the "thickness" in some of the low end was in fact multiple kettle drums being rapidly pounded which in fact accounts for the excess reverberation and explains why it sounded muddy to me. I will have to get the "World of Hans Zimmer" recording that others are talking about and see if I like that one better.Personally, I do not want Balfe or Kraemer to return. I found Kraemer's score to be too restrained, and while Balfe's score is exciting, when I watched the film, I thought the music worn out quickly by the middle of the film. Too much of the same orchestrations.

I hope they go with someone new.

I received today the CD edition, ordered via WaterTower Music shop, and very surprised that it's not a CD-R ! It's a real pressed disc.

...and I just realized I used the word "impressed" or some variation thereupon four times in that post. *facepalm*

And this was supposed to be a reply to the other thread!

...I think I need to go to bed. :p

:-/ Hmmmmm.... This is really an underwhelming score. It's not bad by any means, but most of the action/suspense music is incredibly generic. And the horn of doom... really?!?

I will say, I do like the use of electric guitars in the first half ("The Island" is pretty badass) and there is some decent orchestral writing in the second. There just seems to be something missing that would make this feel more inspired.

MrZimmerFan2017-03-03 18:56:17
I'm not the biggest fan of Jackman, but I think is a enyoable score (honestly, I prefer Uncharted or Pixels, but I have fun with this). I like the guitars with orchestra (The Battle of Skull Island have this epic/heroic theme for Kong or the textures for Monsters Exists)

Not the worst.

mpolonest123 2017-03-03 20:58:59
Like I said, it's not a bad score at all. I won't even compare it to JNH because the film is obviously a different beast entirely. The problem is the lack of a distinct voice mixed with some bland, modern action material that borrows heavily from Silvestri and Brian Tyler.

Jackman has always had trouble finding his sound. His scores are always enjoyable but they seem to have trouble being distinct enough. That's one reason I love TWS. The electronic style mixed with the traditional action scoring allow it to be fresh and original, no matter how harsh it gets. If you didn't tell me Jackman scored Skull Island I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you who did.

Macejko2017-03-03 22:39:14
Yes, Jackman underdelivers yet again. I swear, the best thing that came out of his career was Matt Margeson.

Edmund Meinerts2017-03-04 01:04:18
Heh. That's harsh, but I have to admit that Margeson's recent work has impressed me more than Jackman's. The latter had some excellent scores early in his career, but since Wreck-it Ralph he hasn't really impressed me...was not at all impressed with his Captain America scores and even his latest animated/comedy scores like Big Hero 6 and Pixels were missing something. Although I did think Birth of a Nation last year was an impressive new direction for him.

It will be a great epic score, Jackman is great, but shame that it doesn't get a cd release.

Jordan2017-02-27 09:33:05
CD available on the WaterTower website. I ordered one.
