"This is the best score of the franchise since At World's End."<br><br>Watch out you don't trip over that low bar. ;)Maybe because it is IDENTICAL the another theme of the same series?I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will soon, but I've heard the soundtrack and I have only one thing to say. This is the best score of the franchise since At World's End. I had tears in my eyes every time an old theme played. I liked the score for On Stranger Tides, but I didn't like how it relied too much on older themes. I appreciate this score for not using the Ship battle theme and the rolling cage chase motif which I'm kinda tired of hearing them. I love the clever use of One Day as a theme for Henry Turner. Of course, everytime Jack's Themes (both the intro theme, the cello theme, and his DMC theme) and He's A Pirate show up, I can't help but smile and jump up and down. What about the new stuff? A lot of people have criticized Salazar's Theme for sounding like Blackbeard. It does don't get me wrong, but Zanelli isn't the first person to do this. The Winter Soldier is derived from Why So Serious. Optimus Prime's theme is IDENTICAL to the Knights March from King Arthur. Discombobulate from Sherlock Holmes, Absurdity from The Lone Ranger, and The Red Capes Are Coming from Batman v. Superman ALL SOUND THE SAME. They're awesome, but similar. Why is it so bad now? I like the rock elements in Salazar's theme and it makes it quite scary. Carina's Theme (The Brightest Star in the North) is also the main theme of the movie and it is perfect beyond belief. Her theme very much resembles past love themes, but it has a sense of herorism to it. I always gravitate to composer's themes for female characters (John Williams with my girls from Star Wars). The new adventure theme is epic! It does sound like He's A Pirate, but it is very catchy. I don't know what the score sounds like in the movie, but it sounds really good on the official soundtrack. To end this, all the action music is incredibly fun. Hans should be proud. Here are my top 5 favorite tracks:<br><br>1. Beyond My Beloved Horizon<br>2. The Brightest Star in the North<br>3. If we look at AWE, apart from Zimmer, there was Zanelli, Jackman, Glennie-Smith, Balfe, ÷rvarsson, Gire and Sponsler on board. If they could choose one lead composer in Zimmer's absence, then whatever some dude wrote would at least sound interesting because of the colorful instrumentation and big, fresh orchestral sound AWE had. Or maybe, just rearrange old themes from the other movies in true AWE style would work just as well. There's plenty of material from POTC 1 that hasn't been used in the other films, and much of it would shine if orchestrated and performed in AWE's sonic fashion rather than the cheap sound the first film had.Fantastic album, particularly HGW's Metal Gear Solid and HZ's Call of Duty! I swear I heard Last of the Mohicans in the movie twice. Maybe it was the slowing of the classic pirate theme. I will figure it out next time I watch.@ mpolonest123 except the Sia song is played during the end creditsThanks!!Of memory I think is it the order of the movie, but I think some tracks are mixed in one, for exemple el matador del mar (like At Wit's End in potc3) :-)Does anyone know if the score is in the same order it is played in the movie??

This composing lacks on every important aspect that make a film music score so nessesary to the movie itself. This music has no evolution, has no entity or identity.

You only know that you are listening the "WONDER WOMAN" ost when you listen the references to the now mythical (Zimmer) theme from Batman v Superman. And when this theme sounds in this composing it feels totaly out of place, really a shame.

Beyond, this music could easily work with another summer blockbuster like Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean or a generic action flick.
For years Iíve been defending "DC" music works against the Marvelís (MCU) soul-less soundtracks. And now after three awesome ost (DCEU) I have to eat my words.
Is not necessary to talk about how great are Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad (ok, this last less, but with a epic main theme). You only need to listen Rupert Gregson-Williams Wonder Woman, and then play one of this three compositions.

But the most disappointing thing, is the great missed oportunity with the Wonder Woman Theme last year. That exotic tone, that woman strengh that you feel when you are listen this epic theme. Here all this feelings are lost. At the end, another Zimmer-Like Šlbum.
But like always in the "Zimmer-Like" longtime Šlbum library, not that height, not that quality, because if Wonder Womanís score remebers us something, is one and clear truth: Only Exists One Hans Zimmer.

Now that the album is out there I can easily say that I love this score. Definitely my 2nd favorite behind MoS.

Musically, much of it has that "Last Samurai/Transformers" power anthem style (with one of the themes sounding like King Arthur) but with RGW's string writing style as opposed to the bass heavy approach of those scores. The WW cello theme isn't used a whole lot, but when it gets some screen time it feels earned, and steals the show. The villain material is the weakest part, but instrumentally is pretty cool with the incorporation of the cimbalom (it reminds me slightly of Sherlock at points)

Overall, easily one of the best scores so far this year.

Waymann2017-05-26 08:38:07

If anyone wants to custom improve this album; just swap out the Sia song for Tina Guo's cover. It makes the album end off on a much better note ;-)

PeterMusic2017-05-26 20:35:28
I agree - why didn't they include Tina's version of the theme . More of the Zimmer would have made the score much effective

After listening to it the first time I thought this was a very good Zimmer score, but suddenly realized it was Rupert Gregson-Williams and that's a very good thing because he has been able to bring this Zimmer classic sound but with his own voice, as they said above here, with Last Samurai-like anthems and also remind me a bit of the second half of Hacksaw Ridge score, and that's great.
I specially liked No Man's Land, Wrath of Wonder Woman, Hell Hath No Fury and Lightning Strikes (well, in general, the second half is pretty awesome with many action heroic themes).
Cannot wait to hear it in the context of the movie.

Just finished listening to the score, and this definitely helps calm my frustration after seeing Pirates last night. The score for Pirates was decent enough with some catchy tracks, but this is way better. Summer movies 2017 may not have the best movies lined up in terms of quality, but the scores for them all are really intriguing. Hoping the scores for The Mummy, Transformers, Spider-Man, and Dunkirk are all what I hope. Anyway I'm getting off track, the Wonder Woman score is very good and Rupert is really taking off as a quality composer.

@Peters88 and @Michael The director tweeted a picture of Williams and Howe together saying he's providing additonal music. Not in the traditional RCP way, but like Danny Elfman with Age of Ultron. He's practically a co-composer.

Ds2017-05-04 22:51:20
Lol... like The Boss Baby is full of droning ? Like there is any droning in Hacksaw Ridge? Like a track as "This is my world" from BvS is full of electronics? Just because a composer is capable of writing electronic music doesnt mean he only does that.

Edmund Meinerts2017-05-04 23:12:24
There's quite a bit of droning in Hacksaw Ridge, especially the track of that name.

Anonymous2017-05-05 07:00:51
Indeed. And BossBaby sounds all fake synthy too in most places.

PetersMusic2017-05-05 08:40:01
He isn't a very good composer . Nothing original

Ds2017-05-05 13:04:09
OK, fair enough for Hacksaw Ridge. Maybe Mazzaro is responsible for that track after all... or maybe not. Time will tell.

But what's wrong with sounding synthy? Aside from the fact that you personally don't like synths, of course.

rockhound2017-05-05 15:00:03
it sounds often just cheap and it also doesnt make sense to use a full orchestra, that sounds in the end like synths. then why hiring a full orchestra and waste alot of money?

Edmund Meinerts2017-05-05 16:30:59
I have no problem with synths. I do have a problem with scores that use synths to try and fake the sound of an orchestra - ESPECIALLY when there's more than enough money to get the real thing. The absolute worst thing is when they actually do get an orchestra, but then cover it up with synths anyway. Hans and the RC guys can be really bad about that sometimes. There's a certain charm to his earlier work where that was done mostly for budgetary reasons, but now that he's the biggest composer on the planet there's absolutely no excuse. Except, of course, that he gets too attached to the sounds of his own keyboards. :p

JBSO992017-05-05 17:09:11
So electronics sounding like orchestra is a bda thing? What about TRON Legacy? Because I'm pretty sur many parts were synth strings and so and it sounded amazing. Also, they manage to mix synths and real orchestra at parts (I think in Flynn Lives) and they nailed it!

JBSO992017-05-05 17:10:17
bad*
sure*
Sorry for the typos...

Gustic62017-05-05 19:47:36
There are good sounding synths ..... and cheap sounding ! Zimmer always used to sound original and then the likes of a Chappie started sounding not like hi and generic

Edmund Meinerts2017-05-05 23:03:14
Tron Legacy is a pretty bad example to be honest, because that score is great at keeping things clean. The orchestra is clearly an orchestra that is allowed to breathe organically, and the synths are clearly synths and have their own very distinctive textures and colors. None of this muddy mixing of the two in the middle somewhere that Zimmer likes to do.

If there's synths in there to specifically replace or sound like the orchestra, I missed them.

mpolonest123 2017-05-06 00:50:10
I don't understand the hate that Mazzaro gets (although I'm personally biased because I love synth scores and think Chappie is a masterpiece) and he has shown a great knack for writing purely orchestral music. Joseph Trapanese on the other hand.....

Something like Chappie is definitely a throwback to Vangelis, where you do get that "faux-orchestra" synth soundscape. IMO Chappie is a great example of Zimmer doing a largely synth score correctly, as opposed to Inferno which conceptually was interesting but came out as a mess.

JBSO992017-05-06 12:08:55
I think the hate he gets it's in part from the people who feels like he doesn't have a proper own voice and he, most of the times, he just produces synths and so. For me Chappie had some very good parts, but at other parts I felt like I was listening to some noises, but then you have tracks like The Outside Is Temporary or We Own This Sky and this are truly great themes.
Also the tracks from Man of Steel & Batman v Superman were his name appears are some of the best of the albums, so I think it depends on what he is working on

Peteu2017-05-06 12:39:33
Hans needs to get back to working with people like Balfe. Actual composers - . Really looking forward to hear the wonder woman theme again in this film .

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-06 12:46:23
You might want to hold on regarding HZ's theme... I spoke with a bunch of people who worked on that score and the theme only appears a couple of times, it's not central or anything.

Everan2017-05-06 15:56:34
The theme is still in so that's great! Musical continuity is always a win.

Mike2017-05-06 16:15:39
That's a shame if that is true about the theme . Even the trailers are now strongly
Using the theme . It would be a mistake not to use it

Hedon2017-05-08 15:20:52
They should have gotten Steve Mazzaro to score it. Then the theme would certainly be used a lot, as Steve is very close to both Hans and Tina Guo who performed the theme in BvS. And we know Steve can create epic sounding music.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-08 15:53:53
You don't get it, they don't use the theme much because it just doesn't work...

Honestly, think a second and try to develop that "theme" ! It's impossible !! It's not even a theme, it was just an action cue motif, an "announcement" of WW in Bat v Sup... It got popular but apart from an action scene, you can't do anything with it ! And Warner tried, believe me !!

Martiane2017-05-08 17:32:45
They are using it on every advert and trailer for the film . In my opinion , there is a lot you can do with Zimmers theme. It's one of the most memorable super hero themes in recent years. It's like The Terminator theme - powerful

Mephariel2017-05-08 18:50:04
The problem is, it is not a theme that can you easily transition in and out of. You can play it and play it...but that it.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-08 19:36:12
Exactly, you can't slow it down, you can't really rearrange it...

mpolonest123 2017-05-08 20:07:49
You can hear the theme being played on strings at the very end of the "Alley Fight" clip they released.

I'm sure the WW theme will be worked in at the right moments (for sure the end credits) but Hybrid is right in it not being a developed idea. What I'm personally curious about is what tone the score will take, considering DC is trying to shoot for a lighter feel.

forced2017-05-08 20:11:32
Hybrid's right, it's a riff, not a theme. It was cool in context.

In the trailer it sounded forced in.

Edmund Meinerts2017-05-09 00:05:42
In full agreement with Hybrid. It's a cool riff for an action cue...but can you hear that theme being twisted into something that's quiet, intimate and emotional? Or stirring and heroic? It would be cool to hear them try, but honestly the best composer in the world wouldn't be able to make that sound natural.

David2017-05-09 00:33:01
Respectfully Hybrid, I disagree about slowing it down! Remember the scene when Diana is in her hotel room and Bruce emails her the photo of her and the rest of the files? Her theme is playing and it's slowed down. And it really works! At least I think it does. I think it sounds great :D
