So you can't wait to hear the score but you already say it's a great score ?<br><br><br>#inceptionAnother great score from Benjamin Wallfisch can't wait to hear the score & see the movie <br><br>Music By Benjamin Wallfisch<br>Additional Music By John Paesano & Adam Hochstatter<br>Orchestra Conducted By Tim Williams<br>Orchestrations By Peter Bateman & David J. KrystalWhy is people saying that Balfe kept some original music from Kraemer? I have listened to the whole score and I didn't found any quotes. Maybe in The Syndicate there is some kind of reference to Kraemer's theme but I don't really know.<br><br>And I have to say that I was expecting Balfe to shine on this one, but I ended up disappointed. There are some great action cues, and I like some things he does with the main theme like the use of choir, but the score as a whole feels like a reuse of many things I have already heard and ends up feeling repetitive and a bit boring. <br>And note that this is my opinion so don't jump into my neck saying this is the best score in the saga, because I think Rogue Nation is a really big step above this. I hope that at least it works in the context of the movie, which I suppose it does really well...Re-listening the score again...….Have to say, Lisbeth Scott's beautiful vocals are definitely one of the highlights. She's amazing. On par with Lisa Gerrard.<br><br>Speaking of, what the hell happened to MV/RC guys incorporating female vocalists in their scores? I've always loved that approach. But it seems that it kinda went away......replaced by more and more sound design! So except for this score (and Steve's Your Highness) is there a recent big MV/RC score that actually features female vocals? Maybe I'm missing some...…..I was wondering that is there a Hans Zimmer library you need to license from Remote Control.<br><br>I kinda saw a composer's Cubase setup and he labeled one of his folders, HZ STR, HZ BRS, and HZ Choir.<br><br>Does Zimmer have a brass and choir sample library you need to have a license for?
Easy now Mr. Anonymous, no need to be so superior. <br>I looked up that tracklist, and couldn't find 'Tai Lung Escapes' specifficaly listed, hence asking. Closest there is 'Shogun Mongol Prison', but it's too short to be the whole scene. <br><br>But I'll try to get a hold of that complete version somehow, looks super interesting."It's the first action score by Balfe i didn't hate this year, thank god!"<br><br>This is an actual comment from the FRIGGING Hans Zimmer fan site. Balfe is so winning over everyone with his talent isn't he! <br><br>Of course, he has no fans - Krascynzki - are you posting here? Have you been told by a Balfe to make great comments about his weekend wankjob?<br><br>Seriously - Balfe is a total joke and we need to treat him as such - he laughs at anyone trying to 'listen' to him. He is on record saying no one listens to soundtracks which is why his work is so bad - you fanboys are thick to him. He is a professional driller - he fills a space and that is that.<br><br>Go listen to the latest Reality TV shit - you get the same talent and much more exciting music<br><br>Well, I don't know why a track called The Syndicate might refer to the villains of the piece - the Syndicate. If you think this is a good villain theme you may want to look around for others including Kramer's Solomon Lane which is here referenced in Barfe passing out on a synth and pressing the opening notes of Kramer's complex themeIts just three short bursts of sound, really.Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention there's also a short track that plays when K walks through Las Vegas past the statues and beehives, but is not listed on the cuesheet
It should be noted that I think a few tracks like 'new model' are put together with the track that came before it on the CD.<br><br>Ossuary<br>Return to Sappers<br>Must Protect the Child<br>Bomb<br>Like a Real Girl<br>Luv in Apartment<br>Mesa Hijack<br><br>I think are the only real missing tracks, and some of them are pretty short anyway.I keep listening to "The Syndicat", which is what I assume to be the theme for The Syndicate. Honestly one of the better villain themes i've heard in a whileFlight has a new Andrew Kawczynski credit...We're getting there!Yeah, you're probably right. <br><br>I guess I thought of it as a Powell cue mostly because between the two main composers, it matched more with his style than Hans', but yeah it's probably Jackman's stuff. <br><br>Either way, I love that track.Yeah<br><br>BTW, John Paesano is credited as additional music
I'm pretty sure that the majority of it is Henry Jackman (maybe with a bit of Hans). I don't get much of a Powell vibe off that particular cue at all. This film and score are ten years old! The first seven minutes of Hans’ New Batman Theme (A Dark Knight) are still one of my favorite individual Zimmer themes. <br><br>And the movie itself is still one of my favorites, comic book or not.I'm curious, who do you think mostly wrote 'Tai Lung Escapes'? <br><br>I've always loved that track, and always felt that it was mostly a John Powell cue, although that very dark first part could easily be Hans' work. I could also see it being a Henry Jackman cue though... I don't know. :pStairs and Rooftops....WOOOW Easily one of the best film tracks of 2018. Simply Amazing!!!It's the first action score by Balfe i didn't hate this year, thank god!<br><br>It's not the best thing in years, but is a fun action score (Free Fall and Escape Through Paris, are good action tracks), plus, altough is 96 minutes, never get bored

How do you know? Have you heard it yet?

Because i saw IMAX prologue, if this track opening, track. It's probably be. Opening scene starting clock-ticking.

How does Hans Zimmer choose who is going to help him on his scores?

Anonymous2017-06-28 23:36:21
Probably cycles through them all. Rotation. Or he just chooses who he wants. He's the boss.

Does anyone know if the score will sound like the trailer music? The song with the weird instrumental dubstep even though it's WWII, and dubstep/electronics would make no sense for that era?

Hans Zimmer can credit anyone whom he thinks has helped him out on the score.

I'll never forget how thrilling it was when I watched Interstellar, once the cd was released after the movie, because Hans and Nolan wanted us to feel the images and sound together. I'll do the same with Dunkirk and all further movies with these amazing director and composer.

Mephariel2017-06-27 08:48:33
Yeah, I don't think I can help it, but I really want to watch the movie first before listening to the score.

With Interstellar, it was a magical experience, especially when Cornfield Chase was playing and No Time for Caution melding perfectly with the docking scene.

Waymann2017-06-27 09:25:38
I always like hearing a score first before I go in. Especially with a film like this. When I haven't heard the score first I pay too much attention to the music so I can take everything in but then I stop using attention to the movie itself. But in case with Dunkirk the movie comes out few day before the score gets released in my country.

Waymann2017-06-23 15:54:26
Great, another soundtrack we can wait for to get the complete score.

Kalman2017-06-23 15:58:55
I wonder if there will be a special edition too. The latest albums from Hans that came out on the WaterTower label all had a special edition release as well.

I don't know if I should pre-order it or wait a couple weeks to see whether a double CD edition will follow. Would be good to know...

Hybrid Soldier2017-06-23 16:02:48
There won't be a 2 CD.

Anyway the film is pretty short, 1h45, so I guess Hans everything he needed in this release.

Medigo2017-06-23 16:07:11
Lets pray for the FYC to be huge like it was for Interstellar

Hybrid Soldier2017-06-23 16:13:37
Well I hope Hans "could" credit everybody and disqualify himself from the "FYC" award races like he loves to... But not easy with a Nolan movie !

Iamtommie2017-06-23 16:46:03
Why does evrybody assume that the album will be short. Mayne the ttack lengths are 10 or maybe 16 minutes long. He's done it before on Crimson Tide. This had 5 tracks and an hour of playtime.
So who knows. Mayne it's a score more than 1 hour.

Kalman2017-06-23 17:30:50
Thanks for the info, Hybrid! Anyway, it's really strange that a war epic is maybe Nolan's shortest film so far. He barely seems to be able to make a movie under 140 minutes.

Mephariel2017-06-23 18:34:06
I suspect this film is all about intensity. I think none of the characters will get an introduction. The movie will just start in the middle of the war.

sverige19772017-06-24 19:43:15
Is Dunkirk also released on vinyl?

isildur2017-06-24 20:49:27
@Mephariel, You are right. And it is not exactly a war film. It's more like a suspense thriller. Whether they'll get home (we know they will) but it's more about how they will and how each of them experience this journey.

isildur2017-06-24 20:55:46
Hybrid, how big is the contribution of Balfe, Mazzarro, Kawczynski in this? Is it more like Hans wrote everything like in Interstellar or is it more like his "Jamming with a band" kind of thing?

Joshua reply Replies: 1 || 2017-06-24 19:54:38

It will be interesting to hear what the score will sound like since Mazzaro and Kawczynski is on the team. Hope it will be heavy on the electronics and sound like Chappie :D

Iamtommie2017-06-23 14:47:50
I hope it's going to be something in between 'Inception' & 'Interstellar'. I hope there are not as much electronics as in Chappie.

Andres2017-06-23 15:05:11
That's what worries me . Having them in it doesn't excite me. I am excited though to see Balfe back working with Zimmer and Nolan.

Alexander2017-06-23 15:16:43
I hope that Hans will punch out his next big thing with Dunkirk and I hope that they will not use electronics that much. It is a Hans Zimmer score so for sure there will be electronics but I hope on something that sounds like "Journey to the line" or inception for sure. You know what would be cool ?! To hear something that sounds like the live version on "Journey to the line" for sure another melody but something that is as mighty as the live version. I really like the drums in it at the end they put much more pressure in it and make it sound heavier. I don't mean the drum solo at the end but the part before that when the main melody kicks in.

...2017-06-23 15:38:57
I hope Hans does something inventive and interesting with the orchestra and not just relies on electronics! The best zimmer scores are in my opinion where the orchestra does the heavy lifting and not the synths!

The fact that Nolan said throw out the percussion and string ostinatos when they did Interstellar is a good sign and I hope Dunkirk won't go back to that style!

Hey Hybrid, was listening to the "HZ's Obsession" on your youtube channel. Real nice spotting dude.

Hybrid Soldier2017-06-04 22:43:42
;)

Hans once said it was a mix between Dies Irae and a German nursery rhyme...

For sure it has haunted him somehow for many years ! lol

isildur2017-06-04 23:14:54
Wow! No wonder all those tracks are amazing. Dies Irae inspiring also makes sense since all those movies somehow deal with the concept of death.

Vivien2017-06-05 00:21:25
I love this melody since I heard it in Angels and Demons !

mpolonest123 2017-06-05 01:42:19
Funnily enough this has always been one of my favorite melodies throughout HZ's career, particularly the "dancing string" variation from Hannibal.

Would Lois's theme from MoS and the Oscorp motif from ASM2 also count as this?

mpolonest123 2017-06-05 01:48:59
And for that matter, the "Woad" theme at 5:50 in Woad to Ruin definitely uses the riff.

Great video Hybrid btw!

Agustin2017-06-07 00:32:28
In the road to el Dorado there are some epic versions of this motiff, with chours and stuff.

I had never noticed it was also in interstellar until now. I think, at this point, it's like the wilhelm scream of Hans music, it has to be in every soundtrack.

Hybrid, is the music from the newest trailer actually from the score?

Also, is this a solo effort from Hans Zimmer?

Mike (OTM)2017-05-06 15:10:53
Same question about "solo Zimmer" - Interstellar felt really special for that. :) I'm expecting Steve Mazzaro in some capacity, though.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-06 15:41:04
I know who worked on it but I'm waiting for the "official" credits before dropping everything, it was not an easy journey (but it rarely is !) !

Joshua2017-05-07 20:56:45
Hybrid, you saying that this was not an easy journey really is interesting. I was thinking about this about a week ago when I read an interview with Zimmer, and he said he was having to finish cues for Dunkirk on the tour bus between shows! And it just struck me as odd because in the past Zimmer and Nolan seem to wrap post fairly early on. With it being 2 months from the release and Zimmer is still working on it seemed strange. Very interested to hear what happened here.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-07 21:02:25
And Hans still has a faithful lieutenant working on it on site while he's touring ! Not unknown to Nolan ! ;)

Joshua2017-05-07 21:33:32
Wow, and the plot thickens lol.

Mephariel2017-05-07 22:18:11
Hybrid, is this is synth score primarily or are there going to be orchestrated sections?

Looking back, I think maybe he took on too many projects last year. He started Dunkirk in January 2016 right? In between then and now, he was involved in The Crown, Planet Earth II, Hidden Figures, The Boss Baby while having 2 months off on tour.

Ahmad2017-05-07 23:37:45
Zoe Zimmer (Hans' daughter) shared a photo and a video of Hans and Chris in a studio recording a brass section. I hope that answers your question.

Edmund Meinerts2017-05-08 01:53:30
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that none of those four projects you listed there, Mephariel, were exactly hands-on ones for Hans... ;)

Joshua2017-05-08 20:14:22
Yeah, Hans and Nolan's relationship has been super experimental since the beginning. Nolan encourages it, so I doubt Nolan would be the cause of the headaches (though i could be wrong). But to me this reeks of studio interference.

Joshua2017-05-08 20:15:43
And yeah, I doubt it has anything to do with Hans' other projects he had last year. His role in those seemed minimal.

Mike (OTM)2017-05-08 20:38:00
Alright, so this one is definitely a co-score, then. D'you think the other guy working on it will get front cover credit, or no? You can never tell with Zimmer's projects. Seems to be that credits depend on a whim. Ha.

Joshua2017-05-08 21:17:36
God how awesome would it be if it was James Newton Howard again. (Wishful thinking...)

Mike (OTM)2017-05-08 23:33:51
Well, JNH did work on Hans Zimmer Live recently and posted a FB video about it. Maybe there's more to this than we've been told! ;)

Sadly, though, the realistic side of me doubts it.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-08 23:49:02
I talked with James there ! (I'm even on that video at some point ! lol ;))

And no he's quite busy with his own stuff !

Joshua2017-05-09 00:44:19
Well we know it cant be Steve because he's on the road with Zimmer. My money is on Lorne ;)

isildur2017-05-09 07:31:15
"Not unknown to Nolan!" Well, it's obviously Lorne. He did work extensively on Inception. So, no worries. Lorne knows what to do.

Kalman2017-05-10 12:28:18
I really hope you're right because what I heard in the latest trailer didn't convince me at all. I hope it was not from Hans' score (can anyone confirm it is from the actual score or not?) Or, at least, that the score itself will be much, much better.

JBSO992017-05-10 17:07:41
Well, the music from the trailers, if it's from the composer of the film, generally is music for making the trailer look awesome and they use cheap composing ways to create this, but the score it's usually by far better than the trailer music.
And it's Zimmer with Nolan, nothing bad can come from this two working together!

TomMuso2017-05-10 19:54:25

I wonder when the musicians will be listed and if Tino Guo or Martin Tillman has any role in this. Cello performances seem like a staple in a solemn, dark, moody Zimmer film.

Hell yeah. I'm still wondering if the music in the second half of the first trailer (trailer #2) is Hans or not. I guess we won't get any confirmation until the movie/score comes out in July.

It isn't too soon for this? Well I don't mind. I would love to hear it as soon as possible but until the movie, probably we won't get to hear anything. The music from the trailers is from Zimmer?
