MMichaels LOL!!! You have no idea about film musicFantastic score by Balfe.Best action score writer to come from RCP since Powell for sure .It hits all the same notes you would expect out of a feel good sports movie, but the performances and real life story really add a lot to it, as does Rabin’s score.<br>=======================<br><br><br>Well said! <br><br>Agreed.I've demanded for it to be removed a long time ago... Maybe in 10 years, who knows...RIP to a legend....<br><br>Just rewatched Coach Carter a few weeks back. It hits all the same notes you would expect out of a feel good sports movie, but the performances and real life story really add a lot to it, as does Rabin’s score.
Listening to Rabin's two powerful "basketball scores" - this one and Glory Road. In memory of the great Kobe! RIP, legend!Honestly man, I never understood this site's ratings either. For those of you disappointed in this score...remember...This is Bad Boys 3 lol....Have you heard Bad Boys 1+2? Cmon now...relax and take it for what it isI'd be surprised if we don't see some Wallfisch scores this year. He has been so prolific lately, would be weird to suddenly go an entire year without a single assignment.CD coming from LLL!
Really liked this score, and the movie wasn't as bad as people claim as well... Benjamin Wallfisch does some very nice stuff, his horror scores are always on point like It 1 & 2, Annabelle: Creation, A Cure for Wellness...<br><br>I know he's gonna deliver it with Mortal Kombat even if the movie isn't that good. But kind of a bummer that his next scheduled project comes out in 2021 LOL'Cause maybe the expected all the cues from the sessionsI like this music! The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.<br>A nod to the last but brought it up to date.<br>This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s musici can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-<br><br>@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!
Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?<br><br>Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......<br><br><br>Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day. <br><br>But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score). <br><br>At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....Some of the action bits, yeah......This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...<br>....................<br><br><br>It's bigger than that.....<br><br>After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe. <br><br>Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?<br><br>Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close. <br><br><br>Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger. <br><br>But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.<br><br>I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes. Some cues sound like Speed 2Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lol

Hi there :) Which ones are Blake's composed Themes for the movie "The Da Vinci Code"?

isildur reply Replies: 10 || 2017-06-04 22:37:17
Hey Hybrid, was listening to the "HZ's Obsession" on your youtube channel. Real nice spotting dude.

Hybrid Soldier2017-06-04 22:43:42
;)

Hans once said it was a mix between Dies Irae and a German nursery rhyme...

For sure it has haunted him somehow for many years ! lol

isildur2017-06-04 23:14:54
Wow! No wonder all those tracks are amazing. Dies Irae inspiring also makes sense since all those movies somehow deal with the concept of death.

Vivien2017-06-05 00:21:25
I love this melody since I heard it in Angels and Demons !

mpolonest123 2017-06-05 01:42:19
Funnily enough this has always been one of my favorite melodies throughout HZ's career, particularly the "dancing string" variation from Hannibal.

Would Lois's theme from MoS and the Oscorp motif from ASM2 also count as this?

mpolonest123 2017-06-05 01:48:59
And for that matter, the "Woad" theme at 5:50 in Woad to Ruin definitely uses the riff.

Great video Hybrid btw!

Agustin2017-06-07 00:32:28
In the road to el Dorado there are some epic versions of this motiff, with chours and stuff.

I had never noticed it was also in interstellar until now. I think, at this point, it's like the wilhelm scream of Hans music, it has to be in every soundtrack.

Nonore2017-06-09 01:30:16
Where could we find this video, please ?

Two days ago, we did an interview with Hans in Prague and he said, that Dunkirk was the most demanding score he has ever worked on! :) So, I guess we have something to be looking for!!

Lynk2017-06-06 15:50:31
mmm... Last time we heard the man say something in those lines was during Da Vinci Code.

Ahmad reply Replies: 4 || 2017-05-25 16:19:53
Tina Guo recorded cello for Dunkirk. I'm really excited.

Bioscope2017-05-25 17:20:26
Ditto :)

Mephariel2017-05-26 08:25:03
She did 32 hours of Cello work for this...wow.

JBSO992017-05-26 12:26:35
32 hours!!! I think this will be played as a lament in a slow-motion scene where it looks like they're gonna get killed. Cannot wait for it!

Edmund Meinerts2017-05-26 14:15:59
There's no kill like overkill. Plus another thing that'll sound good for the inevitable Hans/Nolan PR train I guess. *shrug*

Dragonseeker reply Replies: 1 || 2017-05-24 22:14:34
Lorne Balfe attached to score Horse Soldiers.

They guy is everywhere.

Anton2017-05-24 23:10:50
Just read that on film music reporter . Lorne has to be the most in demand composer at the moment . Amazing how busy he is and really enjoying his score to Genius

Mephariel reply Replies: 17 || 2017-05-05 23:45:30
Excited for this!

Hybrid, is the music from the newest trailer actually from the score?

Also, is this a solo effort from Hans Zimmer?

Mike (OTM)2017-05-06 15:10:53
Same question about "solo Zimmer" - Interstellar felt really special for that. :) I'm expecting Steve Mazzaro in some capacity, though.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-06 15:41:04
I know who worked on it but I'm waiting for the "official" credits before dropping everything, it was not an easy journey (but it rarely is !) !

Joshua2017-05-07 20:56:45
Hybrid, you saying that this was not an easy journey really is interesting. I was thinking about this about a week ago when I read an interview with Zimmer, and he said he was having to finish cues for Dunkirk on the tour bus between shows! And it just struck me as odd because in the past Zimmer and Nolan seem to wrap post fairly early on. With it being 2 months from the release and Zimmer is still working on it seemed strange. Very interested to hear what happened here.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-07 21:02:25
And Hans still has a faithful lieutenant working on it on site while he's touring ! Not unknown to Nolan ! ;)

Joshua2017-05-07 21:33:32
Wow, and the plot thickens lol.

Mephariel2017-05-07 22:18:11
Hybrid, is this is synth score primarily or are there going to be orchestrated sections?

Looking back, I think maybe he took on too many projects last year. He started Dunkirk in January 2016 right? In between then and now, he was involved in The Crown, Planet Earth II, Hidden Figures, The Boss Baby while having 2 months off on tour.

Ahmad2017-05-07 23:37:45
Zoe Zimmer (Hans' daughter) shared a photo and a video of Hans and Chris in a studio recording a brass section. I hope that answers your question.

Edmund Meinerts2017-05-08 01:53:30
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that none of those four projects you listed there, Mephariel, were exactly hands-on ones for Hans... ;)

Joshua2017-05-08 20:14:22
Yeah, Hans and Nolan's relationship has been super experimental since the beginning. Nolan encourages it, so I doubt Nolan would be the cause of the headaches (though i could be wrong). But to me this reeks of studio interference.

Joshua2017-05-08 20:15:43
And yeah, I doubt it has anything to do with Hans' other projects he had last year. His role in those seemed minimal.

Mike (OTM)2017-05-08 20:38:00
Alright, so this one is definitely a co-score, then. D'you think the other guy working on it will get front cover credit, or no? You can never tell with Zimmer's projects. Seems to be that credits depend on a whim. Ha.

Joshua2017-05-08 21:17:36
God how awesome would it be if it was James Newton Howard again. (Wishful thinking...)

Mike (OTM)2017-05-08 23:33:51
Well, JNH did work on Hans Zimmer Live recently and posted a FB video about it. Maybe there's more to this than we've been told! ;)

Sadly, though, the realistic side of me doubts it.

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-08 23:49:02
I talked with James there ! (I'm even on that video at some point ! lol ;))

And no he's quite busy with his own stuff !

Joshua2017-05-09 00:44:19
Well we know it cant be Steve because he's on the road with Zimmer. My money is on Lorne ;)

isildur2017-05-09 07:31:15
"Not unknown to Nolan!" Well, it's obviously Lorne. He did work extensively on Inception. So, no worries. Lorne knows what to do.

isildur2017-05-21 15:12:36
Told ya! Now, officially it's Lorne.

Joseph Solano reply Replies: 18 || 2017-05-10 03:45:37
This score in my mind will be a masterpiece. I can't explain why, I just do. I wonder how similar or disimilar to The Thin Red Line.

Kalman2017-05-10 12:28:18
I really hope you're right because what I heard in the latest trailer didn't convince me at all. I hope it was not from Hans' score (can anyone confirm it is from the actual score or not?) Or, at least, that the score itself will be much, much better.

JBSO992017-05-10 17:07:41
Well, the music from the trailers, if it's from the composer of the film, generally is music for making the trailer look awesome and they use cheap composing ways to create this, but the score it's usually by far better than the trailer music.
And it's Zimmer with Nolan, nothing bad can come from this two working together!

TomMuso2017-05-10 19:54:25
Remember when Balfe did he trailer for Inception and that included Hans music in it .

no2017-05-10 22:24:31
Lorne didn't compose from Dunkirk.
He said official Facebook page.

Mephariel2017-05-10 22:47:27
I wonder who then. Rupert Gregson-Williams?

Joshua2017-05-10 23:21:50
Kawczynski?! Is that mate why he's not on tour this time?

Joshua2017-05-10 23:23:20
*maybe

no2017-05-11 03:30:02
I don't think Hans giving responsibility Kawczynski. Hans i guess finish March on the Dunkirk score. Maybe again solo job Hans.

Andreas2017-05-11 10:12:53
It would be great if it was Balfe . Call of Duty was one of the best game scores. They are a great team

no2017-05-11 17:21:11
Lorne is not co-composer on Dunkirk dude.

Andreas2017-05-11 19:31:01
Why not Dude ! Why shouldn't he get credit for what he does? He was all over the last Kung Fu Panda and didn't get any credit !

Mike2017-05-11 22:50:46
I agree it would be great for Balfe to get proper great. Not sure why he doesn't seem to be given proper co credit ? Sherlock for a co - producer .

Olivia2017-05-12 02:17:38
Probably is Balfe. He is scoring something for Warner. Source: facebook.

Mephariel2017-05-12 02:48:36
Balfe could be talking about Geostorm, not Dunkirk.

Joshua2017-05-14 01:03:16
@no was literally wrong about everything he said above lol :):):):) Very cool that Balfe is back on a Nolan film.

Joseph Solano2017-05-14 01:32:01
@JBS099 The music from the teaser might be because it sounds a lot like Winter Soldier.

Andreas2017-05-14 21:33:46
Wow wow wow !!! Balfe is back on board . This will be good and very excited now

Olivia2017-05-21 05:57:21
No one orchestrator? Hum... The score entire will electronic, then?

Mike (OTM) reply Replies: 4 || 2017-05-13 23:17:14
Hybrid, was Lorne the guy working "on-site"? And is this another "music produced by Lorne Balfe" score, i.e., co-composed by Lorne Balfe?

Hybrid Soldier2017-05-13 23:35:47
I don't think so, Hans was on it for a year and a half. Lorne's been there for a couple of months, Andrew probably more. I think they're FINALLY done by now (about time !!! lol) !

mpolonest123 2017-05-13 23:42:17
If Satnam is doing some additional music expect some killer percussive elements...

NM2017-05-14 00:24:49
What the hell is Lorne made of? The guy never stops writing!

Mephariel2017-05-14 01:31:20
I wonder when the musicians will be listed and if Tino Guo or Martin Tillman has any role in this. Cello performances seem like a staple in a solemn, dark, moody Zimmer film.

... reply Replies: 0 || 2017-05-13 21:11:36
Lorne is making additional score for it! aaaaaaaaaa!!

Dimitris Krommidas2017-05-06 00:13:23
Yes!

Ahmad2017-05-06 01:19:22
Hell yeah. I'm still wondering if the music in the second half of the first trailer (trailer #2) is Hans or not. I guess we won't get any confirmation until the movie/score comes out in July.

JBSO992017-05-06 12:00:43
It isn't too soon for this? Well I don't mind. I would love to hear it as soon as possible but until the movie, probably we won't get to hear anything. The music from the trailers is from Zimmer?
