Why is Hans uncredited? I'll take it that Bumblebee/AllSpark are Steve's themes then.Not at all! ; ) That's one of my favorite tracks as well. I must be the biggest weirdo in all of film score history, because the highlight of DMTNT for me was "I've Come With the Butcher's Bill." It resonated instrumentally, most notably that badass cello (?) at around the 2:35 mark, it was the perfect blend of old and new themes, and best of all, it sounded like a swashbuckling theme. As much as I loved the  action cues in the first three, I sometimes felt that they resembled a Latin hell choir more than a traditional pirate piece, especially AWE. It's good listening, but sometimes it sounded more like Gregorian Chanters of the Caribbean. :P <br>I seriously blast Butcher's Bill out loud on the highway, I love it so much.one more question. Who wrote the Bumblebee theme?Does an instrumental version of BATTLE CRY exist?? 0.oAwesome Thx.which tracks are suites, cuz it seems like a bunch are...?

Totally agree with Bar. There is lots of nice melodic tracks (We Have To Go - TOP, Sacrifice, You Have Been Chosen, History of Transformers, Seglass Ni Tonday....) and also some tracks with same theme like in T1 (Did You forget Who I Am, I Had My Moment...) This is one of the best soundtrack albums in last three years.

It gets better after the first listen. You know what you're eaded for and the action sounds better. For example I didn't like Coming of Cybertron, at all. But in the second listen, I started to like the dark sounds, that mistry thing. So yeah, listen to it again, you might enjkoy it more.

I honestly prefer Quintessa, not my favorite track, but is more engaging than Coming of Cybertron. IMO

But the standout tracks: Sacrifice, Merlin's Staff, History of Transformers, Seglass Ni Tonday, Vivian Follows Merlin, Cogman Sings, Dive, Battlefield, Calling All Autobots, Did You Forget Who I Am and Claim the Staff

Random thoughts....

Honestly, Ive had to cut alot of those tracks down because much of it is meandering sound to me...

Plus I'm not much for Game of Thrones-type music with the violins and such, so this OST isn't all that for me.

I also noticed two of the tracks were released early - the theme on the website and the trailer 3 music....All you needed was the Merlin theme leaked and you would have had all the main themes


The Megatron music is flat...and I have no idea what they were thinking when they decided to do that Suicide Squad bit.

The action music feels nothing like it used to. I'm guessing It's because Jablonsky isn't working with the same people as before (Mazzaro, etc), but this time out I'm not feeling it.

The themes from Age of Extinction were scrapped...I mean, I get it/not really...But the new Autobot theme wasn't all that bad, and could have been useful in this score, as there is no Autobot theme in this movie to drive the score forward (Only the Game of Thrones music)...and no I'm not talking about the reprise of the original theme.

Action pieces are meh. NO new themes for any of the new characters...Can't imagine why (oh wait I can because they're introduced then killed off/or ignored right after)

I get the feeling Jablonsky doesn't wanna do Transformers anymore, but wants the money, so he pretends to be scoring a different film entirely.

Just saw the movie and the only good thing to come out of it is the score....

What the Hell Michael Bay? Who the hell is writing this crap and how the hell did you approve this story? By far the worst of the 5.....and I don't blame Jablonsky at all.

Hey guys! When listening to it again, I discovered that the first few notes of the Autobot theme is played near the end of History of Transformers. This score really does feel like a return to form for Jablonsky.

The "Quintessa" track = ear orgasm. It's weird, it's not even a melody, but it's still very appealing to me. Listening to it as we speak. Jablonsky really did a good job with this one.

Ironically this score definitely is the closest to the sound of the first film in terms of the action music and chord progressions. There are some truly standout tracks (Seglass Ni Tonday is as gorgeous as anything Steve has written so far for this series, Arrival to Earth and Infinite White aside) and I think is overall a stronger package than both DOTM and AOE.

That being said, I'll never understand why Bay decided to move away from the original themes. When the most memorable aspect of the score are the already established themes (which are only used a handful of times) something clearly is wrong. Hell, what happened to the awesome Decepticon motif?

Honestly, that reprise of No Sacrifice, No Victory at the end gave me everything I wanted, along with the reprises of Arrival To Earth. I just need a few songs with the main 3 themes (Arrival To Earth, Optimus, and Autobots,) to make the score feel connected with the others.

My god the arrival to Earth Part in "I had my Moments" would have been Perfect to give us a New, more mayestic Version of arrival to Earth O just don't get it why they stoped the Song at that Point. But yea "calling all autobots" has defenetly more of the old autobots theme than "I had my Moment" has of arrival to Earth. Still the best Version of the Start from arrival to Earth.

This is a good score, the fact that it's mostly new music with new themes is interesting. But maybe a little more of the older themes here and there would have been great. Although many tracks on this score are actually older theme's with just some notes that are left out from them. Something Michael Giacchino did on his score for Rogue One.

I still think TF1 and TF3 have the best posters and the best covers for their scores/soundtracks. It seems to be a Chinese cover of the song "Torches" by X Ambassador. There's an official video, but it's not been promoted at all... outside of China I guess!

Pretty lame when you remember the great songs from Linkin Park and Imagine Dragons, and the way they were integrated in the score.

This has nothing to do with the topic at hand - which is the score from Jablonsky and crew. But since you brought it up, let me say some things. First, no sane person would let a rating on some website dictate his/her entertainment choices. Only sheep would let critics tell them what to watch and what not to watch. Second, Zimmer and company have never been "loved" by the critics, so that's that. Not that it matters in this day and age anyway... Considering that 90% of the film critics today are glorified comicbook fanboys who hate pretty much everything and have a very annoying behavior toward cinema as whole, and don't know crap about filmmaking as well. So yeah, I would rather trust the opinion of a peeled banana. Gone are the days of critics like Ebert and Maltin - critics who, first and foremost, LOVE cinema, and who were able to provide a constructive criticism without attacking the audience and without personally insulting filmmakers and actors. That's not the case anymore. Hate, snark, anger and annoying sarcasm are what the modern "critics" rely on. And that is wrong. So yeah, you'll never see me going to sites like Rotten Tomatoes and I'll never let critics tell me what to watch and what not to watch. I think I'm smart anough to make up my own mind. Also, Brett Ratner was absolutely right when he said that this Rotten Tomatoes site is the worst thing to happen to cinema. I would also add another site - Filmtracks (MV/RC fans know why).

Oh, it is indeed to blame. But it's too easy to just blast the internet. Internet is not entirely to blame, but it definitely plays a part. Make no mistake about it. There was a time when people actually went outside their homes to buy newspapers and magazines, to read (among other things) reviews by respected, intelligent critics. In other words, people were exposed to the intelligently written, and very often quite measured, reviews. Now with the internet and social media, people are drowning in crappy reviews, written by 20 to 35 year old militant film geeks (some of them with serious anger issues) who wouldn't know what "constructive crit&#239;cism" means, even if their lives depended on it. I have NO respect whatsoever for these people and their opinions. And unfortunately, the internet + the regular sheeples who are unable to form their own opinions and who care a little too much about reviews, are helping them to spread their hateful bullcrap. In short, there's no filter anymore. Any knucklehead with a computer and an internet connection can be a critic now, and through social media his/her crap can reach thousands of people in a matter of seconds. I'm all for freedom of speech, but I'm against hateful, vile behavior, snark and personal attacks against those people who work hard to entertain us. You don't like a certain movie....fine. You're allowed to have an opinion. Just remember these things: your opinion, when it comes to appreciating art, is not a fact, and your opinion is just as valid as the opinion of a person who loves the movie that you hated. That goes for all people. Opinions on art are opinions. Not facts. And last but not least: don't get angry because of a freakin' movie. Unless the movie is about your life and they totally changed everything, you have no right to act as if the filmmakers have killed your entire family. Getting angry over a movie you didn't like is ridiculous. Try to focus that energy toward things that actually matter in our lives. Hollywood films, and I'm saying that as a huge, huge film fan, are made first and foremost for entertainment. They're harmless. If you like the flick, you like the flick, if you don't, you don't. Whatever the case, keep living your life and don't go all crazy over movies. Yes, it's great to have film discussions and all that stuff, but be measured, be respectful and calm your nerves. There are faaaaar more important things in this world to worry about or get angry about.

As Steve Jablonsky stated, the score has no release date yet but will be available around 2 weeks after the movie has been released.

I'm really looking forward to this score, but there's one thing that kinda bugs me....I love what Steve and crew are doing with the "Transformers" scores but man, I really do miss the "heavenly choir" and all the chants/voices from the first two movies. You know, the MV/RC sound we all love. I'm listening to the "Revenge of the Fallen" score now, and all the choir parts, chants, the vocals by Lisbeth Scott, it's all absolutely stunning. Beautiful and powerful. They should've used more from the first two movies, that's what I think. Not repeating the same themes of course, but keeping the style, while still trying some new stuff. I like the "Age of Extinction" and "Dark of the Moon" scores, but if I have to choose I would definitely go with the first "Transformers" and "Revenge of the Fallen". Much more layered, much more powerful scores. Kind of ironic, since Steve said that he didn't have enough time for "Revenge of the Fallen"... Anyway, let's hope for at least some small parts with choir and vocals in "The Last Knight" score...

I fully agree, but you do have to take into account that each score uses a different template based off of whatever musical trend (more often than not what Zimmer previously did).

The first Transformers had a lot of King Arthur/Batman Begins influence with the chord progressions and use of choir. RotF definitely borrowed some A&D/Gladiator, DoTM was TDK/Inception, and AoE had elements from MoS mixed with the whole "incorporate a band to write a theme or two" approach.

To your point though, nothing tops the first two scores in terms of dynamic themes and writing. At the end of the day it all comes down to whatever Bay wants, or whatever temp track they end up using.

The Transformers scores are, for better or for worse, consistently a reflection of whatever Hans (or other RCP) scores and trends came out the two or three years before it and were super popular on temp tracks at the time. mpolonest, you nailed it with the first four... so for this one, I'd expect to hear a lot of Mad Max (that descending ostinato is EVERYWHERE right now...Turtles 2, Moana, Lego Batman, Guardians 2, Pirates 5, it's the most pervasive temp track since probably "Time") mixed with maybe some more Man of Steel/Batman v Superman drums and a few customary Horns of Doom (although those have been waning lately, thank God; I guess that trend is finally, slowly running its course).

Of course, with the King Arthur storyline this time around, I am hoping that gives Jablonsky the chance to go back to the more melodic and, well, King Arthur-like approach from the first score. :)

I think Edmund gets confused with the descending line . It existed prior to Mad Max. It was in such score as Megamind, Predator and most Rock and Roll Songs !!!!!

What Edmund said, but we are getting some really amazing strings around too, and the choir is back. The trailer music that ends with Prime cutting off heads is most likely part of the score, and what Optimus posted is very likely as well.

I'm getting excited as the days roll by, anticipating those samples really soon now.

mpolonest123, good points and I agree. And yes, at the end of the day it is what Bay wants. I'm glad that he and Jablonsky are willing to experiment with different sounds and themes, but I guess I'm just one of those people who still want to hear the classic MV/RC sound. That heavy, choir-filled, dynamic, epic sound that we got in "The Island", "The Peacemaker", "The Rock" and "Transformers 1". Guess I'm just old school and the new scores sound too electronic and artificial to me. But it doesn't mean that I hate them. That's just what happens when a person loves the classic MV/RC sound a bit too much : ))

@Bayhem Nothing wrong with loving the older scores too much, nothing tops that old school electric guitar/keyboarded/testosterone anthem approach. They were definitely a product of their time however. You would hear see something like Drop Zone or Armageddon nowadays.

That being said, I'm personally glad to see that music (both score and song-wise) has evolved the way it has. Everybody loves Hans in 'Crimson Tide/Peacemaker' mode but if he continuously wrote in that style it would get old... Fast.
We are currently in Tom Holkenborg era where sound design and traditional scoring are becoming more intertwined and experimentation is definitely more popular, which I actually think is great.

And who knows, just like how 80's style music is making a big resurgence we might see some throwbacks in the future if the demand is there. The most important thing is that music keeps changing and allowing for new ideas and voices to come onto the scene. As for this score in particular, I personally would like to see something fresh that doesn't completely neglect its roots like Dark of the Moon or Age of Extinction both did.

Yeah...I know that kind of descending ostinato line was not exactly invented by JXL for Mad Max. But neither were low brass notes invented for Inception. And yet you just know that every Horn of Doom/BWAAAAAMMMM that you heard in a movie or trailer for the next seven years was probably directly inspired by it, it's just one of those things that really caught on. And right now it's that Mad Max string line - I think it's happening too often, and the score/movie was too popular, for it to be a coincidence. For reference, what I'm referring to is at 0:19 of the extended version of "Brothers in Arms" from MM:FR (among other places).

TMNT: Out of the Shadows has it in "Casey Jones" (this is the most clearly "temped" of the lot, the electronics from the beginning are really similar too, and the ostinato comes at around 0:47).

Moana has it in "Kakamora" at 1:20, it's only very briefly in this one, but considering how much the *scene* this cue accompanies owes to Mad Max I doubt it's a coincidence :p

Guardians 2 has it in "vs the Abilisk" and "Kraglin vs Drax", both from the very beginning.

Lego Batman has it in a few places, "Joker Crashes the Party" at 1:00 is maybe the most obvious.

Pirates 5 has it in "Kill the Sparrow" at 1:15.

Yeah I think we can be there'll be some Mad Max influence in TF5. Actually it was already the case in TF4, except we called it "MoS influence" at the time. In fact it's just "JXL influence" :-p

mpolonest123 - to be completely honest, I'm still not on the "Holkenborg fan-train" and if there's a vote for the guy who would lead and represent MV/RC in the future, my vote would go to Jablonsky. I'm one of those people who - ever since 2007 - think that he is the "new Hans Zimmer". Having said that, I really enjoyed parts of Holkenborg's Mad Max score. Some parts of Deadpool as well. But I guess he's too much of an experimental guy for me. Of course, I'm not as familiar as you are with him, and if I listen to some of his other scores maybe I would change my mind. I'm glad that he gets to score big movies, but on the other hand I'm worried about him, because maybe he got into the "big composer league" a little too quickly, and I would hate to see him become another Klaus Badelt. And I'm saying that as a huge fan of Badelt. Unfortunately, he - though still working on smaller and some B-movies - is not in the "big league" anymore, which is a damn shame. Badelt got famous pretty quickly during the Time Machine and Pirates 1 days, and just as quickly he fell of the radar (it was around Poseidon). I hope that doesn't happen to Holkenborg. And...I still REALLY hope for another "big movie score" from Badelt. As for the TF5 score - from the small bits I've heard on Jablonsky's YouTube channel, I get the feeling that it will be closer to the TF3 score. Not bad, but honestly I would have preferred a sound closer to TF2. But hey, that's just me. My opinion : )

if you want to hear JXL outside of his usual comfort zone definitely take a listen to both Divergent and Black Mass (and maybe parts of Brimstone, such as; "Genesis", "Liz", "The Reverend", "Exodus", and "Watching Over Me") The biggest issue with him isn't his lack of talent as everyone seems to think, but what producers keep hiring to write which is that Mad Max/300 sound which is trending. Even the "Run All Night Sketchbook" shows more variety in style than some shit like Deadpool.

As far as composers who compare with Zimmer, I would easily put Lorne Balfe at the top of my list (and as far as writing great themes on his level; Trevor Rabin ftw)
Steve Jablonsky is certainly talented, but my number one gripe with him is that most of his music seems to borrow heavily from outside sources. Which isn't to say I don't like it, but scores like Gangster Squad, Enders Game, and the TF series wear their "inspirations" on their sleeves.

One guy who plays well with old MTV times is Rupert Gregson Williams (WW, Hacksaw Ridge ...). Balfe, Jablonsky and XL have *different* voices even comparing with Zimmer. And that's a good thing.

mpolonest123 - thanks for the recommendations. I would definitely check these scores out. I totally forgot that he did Black Mass, though I remember enjoying the music while watching the movie itself.

As for Lorne Balfe, I'm also a fan of the guy, so I definitely understand why he's on top of your list. After all, he's been involved in some of the biggest Zimmer scores and like any good student he gradually kept on climbing the ladder. He didn't just pop out of nowhere. He had more than enough time to master his craft and I was happy when Bay hired him to score 13 Hours.

You're not wrong about Jablonsky and even though I'm a huge fan of the guy I don't deny that sometimes he "borrows" from other sources. But I would argue that it happens mostly on some of his bigger scores. Kind of like Holkeborg, Jablonsky really shows his talent outside of his comfort zone, in smaller movies, videogames and TV shows. Examples are his work on Desperate Housewives, Steamboy, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, some bits of The Hitcher, and my personal favorite Pain and Gain. IMO, these scores prove that the guy has a voice of his own and that he can definitely offer more than just huge, bombastic scores. By the way, an interesting observation: Balfe did some addition scoring on the first two Transformers films, which happen to be my favorite scores of the frachise. Maybe Jablonsky needs to team up with Balfe again : )

I totally agree . Balfe came out of no where and then he is doing everything . It's great following his career . His music is the strongest from RCP since John Powell. Home and Lego Batman blew me away .
