Hybrid, yes!wow man, hybrid. this isn't right from you. actually really embarrasing and an absolute no-go from a staff/member of this site to write such a comment. even if it's a joke, this is a shame and sad.I was a bit over the line, I admit. I should have made it clearer that all of that "hottest shit in town" bit was meant purely as a part of my personal opinion regarding his output. I never saw or read any interviews with him.

I also know about his wife, of course... but I guess I'm just too cynical to accept it as an all-encompasing excuse while seeing such massive fanbase clamoring for his new music. I don't know, I admittedly feel a bit bad about what I'm saying myself. I AM an asshole, sure, but only to an extent.

I think that saying "he is writing scores that he feels comfortable with" and "living his life however he wants", albeit understandable, is still ignoring the fact that he is an artist with a fanbase. We are living in a time when film composers are slowly getting a mainstream recognition as a type of musicians comparable to bands or singers. And that creates a certain responsibility towards that fanbase. An artist doesn't have to fulfill it, sure, but he should at the very least acknowledge and address it.

Which brings to mind an image of Hans going on a massive tour whilst giving zero fucks about the CD presentation of his scores, but I digress.

I wouldn't dare giving Powell advices about how to deal with a pain of the loved one's loss. But on the other hand, I strongly believe in artist's responsibility towards the fans.

For example, that's why I would kick everybody saying "GRRM is not your bitch" right in the goddamn nuts. Now I have ONE true reason to want this score to win !

PEACE ! lolI stand corrected. Though it's still possible that the score is a combination of live orchestra and samples, a lot of RCP music does that.
Ds beat me to a few of the points I was going to make, so thanks. :) I'll try to keep this brief, but it won't be.

Macejko, the only part of your statement that I would 100%, strongly, absolutely disagree with is the "pretentious douche" part. When has he ever "acted like the hottest shit in town"? Do we have any record of him actually refusing assignments? I mean, clearly his output has slowed down since 2012, but why do you act like he's doing that because he thinks he's better than everyone else? I don't see that as pretentious. Especially not given what we know about his personal circumstances. For all we know his decision to take on less work was caused by the knowledge that his wife was sick and wanting to spend as much time with her and with their son as he could. You really still want to call him pretentious?

Now, what I do agree with is the impression that Powell is no longer really developing as an artist. He's found his niche and is writing scores that he feels comfortable with, but I haven't been "surprised" by anything he's written since probably 2010 or 2011. Is that a problem? Well, depends on what your priorities are. I don't rate innovation as highly as I do music that speaks to me on an emotional level, that I love listening to and want to hear over and over again. And with scores like Pan and HTTYD2 Powell has definitely provided that, while Hans Zimmer for all of the "pushing the envelope" and "breaking boundaries" he's done (or claimed to have done) in the last 7, 8 years has in the process left behind many of the things that made me love his music in the first place. He's written some fine and certainly interesting scores in those years (and some I never want to hear again), but I'd throw out every single one of them to hear another At World's End or King Arthur, just a big old epic larger-than-life fun time that cares more about entertaining you than trying to musically divide by zero or whatever. But now I'm turning this into a Powell vs. Zimmer argument which was never really my intention. :p

At the same time I can't pretend that it doesn't hurt to see how much Powell has slowed down. I mean his run of form from 2003-2011 is the stuff of legend, 3-4 scores a year in all sorts of different genres, all of it quality stuff. He was pretty much hitting the sweet spot: innovating, developing his style, trying out new things but not sacrificing his voice or the accessibility of his music. If he were to keep up that trajectory for a career spanning several decades he'd be in contention for greatest of all time IMO. Sadly it doesn't look like that's going to happen anymore. I think it's a fair criticism to say he's dropped off, or at the very least leveled out. I just don't think it's fair to call him pretentious for doing so. The man's a human being and he has the right to live his life however he wants. But you know he never said he has nothing to prove. I don't think he even think such a thing, actually he seems like a very humble and nice guy, much like Hans. I just tell you this based on all the great things he did in many genres throughout his career.

I guess he just want to write music he likes and the way he likes it. Many producers/directors want something more restrained for their movies, that's ok, they can get someone else. If you can afford doing what you like for a living, why the hell would you accept jobs you don't like?

And SW isn't about "creativity", it's just about this kind of busy orchestral music with lots of frenetic parts which Powell seems to really like these days.If only every annoying film music fan would be so willing to take his own life as this one...If this nominated for golden globe or even Oscar and win the title I'll kill my self.

This score is nothing compared to interstellar or even to POTC 3.The moment an artist thinks he has "nothing more to prove", he is creatively dead.

Also, thinking that only animation and Star Wars provide a field for any kind of innovation and experimentation is just ludicrous beyond words, Ds. SW especially is the most musically restricted franchise on the planet.
Fair point. Just look at what Balfe did this year, Lego Batman, Churchill, Genius, The Crown, Geostorm... and all are somewhat different in tone. He was on fire this year for sure. Here is another comparison which to me seems more relevant than yours :
Lorne is doing a lot of projects and getting better and better in various styles.
And Ramin is also doing a lot of projects but is far, far behind in terms of styles and creativity. I'm not saying he doesn't evolve, but at this rate he will need 3 lifes to catch up on Balfe's current level.

Powell has nothing to prove, he has already mastered all genres and is now able to write the music he likes most : crazy orchestral pieces where nothing is forbidden. Today, only animated movies allow this style of scores to exist. And also Star Wars :-pEdmund wrong again !!!!!balfe posted some photos of the recording sessions for the crown^ lol. Harsh, but hes not wrong. Although, I hate to say it, we could say the same for Zimmer in my opinion.I must admit I'm starting to think of Powell as sort of a pretentious douche. All the time he acts like the hottest shit in town, refusing to score basically everything they offer him, and when he finally descends from his golden throne and graces us peasants with a new score for his beloved kiddie animated genre, even then he doesn't handle the majority of the score himself.
This might be a fun score, I'm sure it's gonna be, but I'm also pretty sure that it's going to sound like every other Powell score from the last 6 or so years. The man hides in a cave, doesn't evolve at all and for some mysterious reason he is still revered like a second coming of Jesus Christ. Say anything you will about Lorne Balfe, but at least he is working his ass off and slowly getting better and better.
Wow full credits already.
(Quite surprised so many tracks are not pure Powell's)

Anyway smples on LLL sounds awesome, Powell at its quite best of course.

That Madrid Finale, omg, classical!I wouldn't want to sully this score's reputation by giving it an award as arbitrary and meaningless as the Oscar!Genuinely mind-blown at this score's under-appreciation...definitely deserved an Academy Award, or a nomination at the very least. One of the greatest film scores of all time.I haven't heard it yet, but the majority of Balfe's scores are done with samples so I wouldn't be surprised at allWas this score recorded with a real orchestra? Sometimes it sounds like it comes straight from a computer. Like Your Majesty for example. Lorne uploaded 2 unreleased tracks btw.

Anyway, is the Game of Thrones tour or is something different, like the one Hans did? Thanks for the info!

How great is the new Night King theme! The moment when he rides the resurrected dragon and blows the wall to bits is just incredible!

Anonymous2017-08-30 17:21:21
Yeah, this theme scared the s** out of me.

...2017-09-02 17:07:23
Yeah indeed a scary theme!

Another great new theme from season 7 is the Lannister battle theme that can be heard in Spoils of War, Pt 1 after Daenerys and the Dorthraki arrive!

Sonh2017-09-02 17:57:46
And how epic is the dorthraki theme variation played by the brass!

The last part of Home was used in epidoe 7 in Sansa/Arya final conversation

Waymann2017-08-28 23:36:49
Is the music from the scene with Theon on the beach on the OST?

...2017-08-29 17:43:12
This score is just incredible! I love how the thematic development has gone and how we get some new themes (Jon & denaery's being one of the most beautiful). This score is darker than the season 6 score and it goes into interesting directions! I think the OST does it justice.

There are a few missing cues that would have been nice to have; Missandei & Greyworm's love scene, Euron Greyjoy arriving in Kings Landing in episode 1, the Oldtown music (particularly the version when Sam and Gilly leave Oldtown) but other than that this is a great score release!

Bar reply Replies: 1 || 2017-08-25 17:46:52
Amazing album, Although for me i feel like the sixth one was better.

And i am not sure whether they used "The Army Of The Dead " track already ? can't remember heard that one from episode 6...

Waymann2017-08-26 07:37:38
It's not, it from probably from episode 7. Against All Odds is the track from episode 6.

Alongside the albums for the first and second season, this is probably the best GoT score to date. The sound mix on the TV show itself doesn't do this masterpiece justice it deserves. This is rich in audio, layered in texture, and unbelievably epic. Ramin has done it again!

Waymann reply Replies: 0 || 2017-08-25 08:41:35
Djawadi does it again. Another fantastic score! Doesn't top the one for season 6 but damn that new Jon Dany theme is amazing and already pays off so well in Against All Odds. The only thing that I'm missing is the music from the scenes in Oldtown and the citadel. One of this year's best scores for sure.

Waymann reply Replies: 18 || 2017-08-24 08:58:47
Tracklist has been revealed on Amazon.

Anyone know what tracks could be the first sea battle, the scènes in Oldtown and the frozen lake scène from ep 6 ?

1. Main Titles
2. Dragonstone
3. Shall We Begin?
4. The Queen's Justice
5. A Game I Like to Play
6. I Am the Storm
7. The Gift
8. Dragonglass
9. Spoils of War, Pt. 1
10. Spoils of War, Pt. 2
11. The Dagger
12. Home
13. Gorgeous Beasts
14. The Long Farewell
15. Against All Odds
16. See You for What You Are
17. Casterly Rock
18. A Lion's Legacy
19. Message for Cersei
20. Ironborn
21. No One Walks Away from Me
22. Truth
23. The Army of the Dead
24. Winter Is Here

Iamtommie2017-08-24 09:49:15
Maybe 'Ironborn' for the sea battle. And for the frozen lake maybe 'The Army Of The Dead' or 'I Am The Storm'.

Iamtommie2017-08-24 09:50:02
And it seems like almost the complete battle qith the loot train is on there!!

Waymann2017-08-24 10:15:17
I think A Lion's Legacy Truth and Winter is Here are from episode 7

Medigo2017-08-24 10:37:07
I am the Storm sounds like it could fit Euron too
so who knows
Lions Legacy may be the downfall of Highgarden with the Lannister theme. (They always give us endcredit music lately)
But I suppose that could alsio be 'The Queens Justice'
But I am hoping that Queens Justice is the Martell dungeon scene

Frozen lake may be 'against all odds' or 'army of the dead' or both
The score is clearly not chronological, seeing where they put Casterly Rock's music

Medigo2017-08-24 10:41:47
or The Gift is the dungeon scene
that works too

Iamtommie2017-08-24 10:48:56
The Gift has probably something to do with the wight that they brought for Cersei

Medigo2017-08-24 11:03:10
eh that could be 'Message for Cersei' instead
I mean Euron kept using the word 'Gift' so I think that fits more

Waymann2017-08-24 11:38:17
The track titles are really vague. Haha.
I thought Shall We Begin was going to be included in the Dragonstone track because it's probably the end credits cue from episode 1.

Anyway the score has a good amount of tracks for a 7 episode season. Season 6 had 19 tracks and 7 bonus tracks but those are mostly underscore. Didn't hear much of those in season 7.

Waymann2017-08-24 14:51:02
Oeuw runtimes...

Looks like I am the Storm will be the sea battle from episode 2, Against All Odds or Army of the Dead is episode 6. When I look at some youtube videos who ripped the audio from The Loot Train Attack, it looks like we get everything from that scene in Spoils of War pt. 1 and 2. Without the end credits, but that was the track Hold the Door.

I think Dragonglass, Gorgeous Beasts will feature the new Jon/Dany theme. Still wondering what tracks may feature the Oldtown/Maester variations..

Iamtommie2017-08-24 15:14:22
Message for Cersei is when Ollena tells Jaimie she killed Joffrey. It's not in chronological order.
After sundays episode I'm gonna take a look at the right order.

O backbiter2017-08-24 15:17:03
The Long Farewell is clearly the dungeon scene

Waymann 2017-08-24 16:21:00
I listened to the samples:

The Queen's Justice is the end credits music from epsiode 3. A Game I like to Play could be the dungeon scene, The gift is that scene in episode 3 with Euron Greyjoy. The Dagger is probaly from scenes with Little Finger. A Long Farewell is the poisson kiss scene. Don't know for sure but the Against All Odds track is from Beyond the Wall. See You For What You Are can't place it. Maybe Jon leaving to the wall or that love scene with Grey Worm... A Lion's Legacy another variation of Rains of Castamere. Ironborn is when Euron's fleet sails to King's Landing I think.

No maester theme variations from what i've heard :'( also I don't think the music from that scene with Arya and Nymeria is included. But oh there is a little bit of piano in Winter is Here.

Waymann2017-08-24 16:56:19
The score is up on youtube.

Backbiter2017-08-24 17:27:56
No EP2 End Credits? >:(

Backbiter2017-08-24 17:33:09
Nevermind Ironborn seems to be an extendended version of the episode 2 credits in the same way Needle was for the episode 8 os season 6

Iamtommie2017-08-24 17:45:53
I believe 'The Army Of The Dead' is an extended theme for the white walkers & the wights

Medigo2017-08-24 17:55:55
I believe 'A Game I Like to Play' is from Arya's scene in episode 6
The Spoils of War tracks dont include the extended opening before the Dothraki march in and they miss a bridging section after Dickon saves Jaime/before Dronn gets the Weapon
'I am the Storm' is the Sea battle but with an alternate intro
'Casterly Rock' has parts of the Casterly invasion scenes, but it seems to be mixed very differently
'Lions Legacy' is the fall of Highgarden
No clue where 'Home' goes, but a variation of it shows up in a lot of Winterfell scenes from episode 4

Backbiter2017-08-24 18:31:00
im guessing that Truth is gonna be featured in a flashback scene with Lyanna/Ned Stark?

Iamtommie reply Replies: 0 || 2017-08-24 16:05:48
Things I already figured out:

Dragonstone - Dany's arrival
Shall We Begin? & The Queen's Justice - End Credits episode 1 & 3
I Am The Storm - Sea Battle
The Gift - Euron arrives in King's Landing with Ellaria & Yara
Dragonglass - Cave scene
Spoils Of War, part 1 & 2 - Drogon & Dothraki Vs. Lannisters
The Dagger - Bran & Littlefinger scene
Home - Arya returns to Winterfell
Gorgeous Beasts - Jon touches Drogon
The Long Farewell - The dungeon scene
Against All Odds - Frozen Lake Battle
See You For What You Are - Dany & Jon boat scene
Casterly Rock - The Seige of Casterly Rock
A Lion's Legacy - Jamie at Highgarden
Message For Cersei - Olenna tells Jaimie she killed joffrey

A Game I Like To Play, Ironborn, No One Walks Away From Me, Truth, The Army Of The Death & Winter Is Here.
These I don't know yet

JBSO992017-08-15 09:24:20
I really liked that variation.
And there have also been many variations on the Targaryen theme so I hope they include some of them like(SPOILERS) Danny arriving at Dragonstone or the one from the final scene from the previous episode or that variation when Job touches Drogon.

...2017-08-15 12:58:13
Djawadi basically confirmed that the Dragonstone piece would be on the OST in an interview he gave after the first spisode aired!

The music is really great in this season and the battle music in particular!

Medigo2017-08-24 11:19:27
Going by titles
the Jon/Drogon and Jon/'Dany' scene is on there too

Am I the only one whos been a bit of disappointed of the lack of new music in this season ? We've had new variation of old themes but the only new theme I've noticed is the Dany/Jon one thats been there a couple of times.. Have I missed one ? :)

Iamtommie2017-08-17 23:27:11
I don't think there are many new themes. But there is a lot of new action/battle music.
For example:
Greyjoy Battle
Loot Train Battle

I hope these battles are on the soundtrack. Also I hooe we get another big soumdtrack like season 6. Not the soumdtrack of 50 minutes from season 2 - 5.

Deniz_Cansi2017-08-17 23:49:53
Ah yeah, i forgot about those twos.

Yeah, give us a big soundtrack like s6 :)

David2017-08-18 00:32:20
Less episodes so I'm thinking less material to choose from. By that logic maybe we'll get a hefty release!

Waymann2017-08-18 10:45:39
I don't think it's necessary to create any new big themes. Game of Thrones already has a lot of themes and I don't expect from season 7 to bring something new to the score table because this season is all about characters and storylines coming together. The themes Djawadi established throughout six seasons will pay off in this season and the next in new variations of them and intertwine with each other.

These new variations of previous theme's are well done. They could have just used the old tracks but instead Ramin Djawadi gives us new variations of the theme's we all love.

...2017-08-21 22:55:01
There is a major and beautiful new theme this season! The Jon Snow Denaerys Theme!! It was heard in it's greatest version yet in the end of episode 6!

Waymann 2017-08-22 08:43:47
Any chance the soundtrack will be released this friday ? ;)

Iamtommie2017-08-22 09:51:46
That's right, I forgot about the Jon & Daenerys theme. It's beautiful.
Hope this will be in there

...2017-08-22 10:02:52
I'm not sure they'll release the album this Friday already because I guess they're very cautious about spoilers, but it would be stupid if they didn't release it digitally before the 29th of september.

I'm sure that new theme will be on the OST at least once and I want the creepy Jon Snow variation in episode 6. And the battle version of Light of the Seven when Drogon goes for Bronn in episode 4!

Waymann2017-08-22 12:28:52
Spoilers ? haha I stopped avoiding them. With al the leaking and people on social media who seem to forget that others are watching it a little bit later than airing time it's impossible to avoid them. They did release it last year in front of the final episode. With Light of the Seven as a big surprise.

...2017-08-22 12:44:38

The whole show has evolved, not just the music... it used to be dialogue heavy and slow paced, now it's much more straightforward, it looks more and more like Hollywood movies. The music reflects that. And I find it much nicer, really happy with this direction.

Gonna be honest with you I'm gonna miss that slow pacing but im really glad that now they have a proper budget to focus in what is important instead of putting nude scenes in every chapter like s1 and 2

Wonder why this is getting released a month after the last episode. Previous years the score was always released a week later after the last episode ?

Waymann2017-08-08 13:32:04
For now the release date for the digital version hasn't been announced. 29/09 is just for the CD, in the past the CD release also came a month after the season ended. Digital is indeed after or before the last episode.

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification..

Was expecting this cover art but I didn't think much of the poster for this season as with the previous season, this one just looks like a teaser poster. But anyway can't wait for the score. Heard some new great things in episode 4. (The Cave scene) It's not the best season we've had so far, the pacing and forced humor is bothering me but Ramin doesn't dissapoint. Wondering how this release will sound like. This is my ranking for the scores: 6,3,4,5,2,1

thats not official. hybrid chose it just so theres cover art

Everan2017-08-08 04:52:50
Official or not, way better than Season 5's cover

Would have been cool if the composer could revisit the first two seasons and redo/enhance his score based on what he's learned and applied to the series lately.

It is the offical cover art! And I think it looks great! The battle version of light of the seven/cersei's theme was so badass!
