Probably the only reason Goldsmith isn't in my top 3 is I haven't heard enough of his music. :pWallfisch is a good composer indeed, but BR2049 (and Dunkirk) were absolutely the wrong place for him. He's not a synth guy. He was originally a protege of Dario Marianelli, for heaven's sake - he's got a far more classical/orchestral sensibility. A score like Cure for Wellness is a much better fit for him. I'm not sure why Hans thought it was best to bring him of all people in on BR2049 when the more electronically-inclined Mazzaro/Kawczynski duo would have made more sense for a Blade Runner score (I say this based mostly on Chappie).Ian - no one is trying to compare Balfe to Zimmer !Firstly there is a 20 year age gap!!!Zimmer will always be the best in my eyes but doesnít harm saying someone else can be good <br><br>Still confused why this conversation is still troubling some.I remember saying last year that I thought Lego Batman was one of the best animation scores that year and it caused some to have heart attacks.there are a hand full of people that donít think he is either good or should be working .... we get !!!! <br><br><br><br>Edmund - given the rationality you've displayed in your comments, I'm disappointed Goldsmith isn't in your top three. ;)<br><br>In all seriousness, I'd put money on Powell fucking nailing the integration of Williams's theme. While Giacchino did a solid job on Jurassic World and Rogue One (I tend to think my assessment of the latter is a bit more positive than most), frankly I just think Powell is a far better composer - a genuine A-level guy, whereas Giacchino is moreso very competent without that spark of pure talent seen in Williams, Goldsmith, Elfman, Zimmer etcI think it's worth noting that Zimmer's popularity at this point is largely under his direct control - meaning that if he were to decide to stop touring, go back to writing full-time, and return to his 'epic' thematic style, I think we'd see a surge in his popularity of the sort we saw from Batman Begins through til Interstellar. However, I just don't think he's interested, which is totally his right.<br><br>I certainly agree that the RCP proteges at this point are, frankly, shit compared to how they used to be. I mean, even a guy like Steve Mazzaro (who I genuinely like and who wrote some of the coolest cues in Chappie, and basically co-wrote BvS - a score I actually like) just utterly pales in comparison to the Powell era.<br><br>Actually, I have to take that back a bit; Wallfisch is a very, very talented guy, honestly so much better than someone like Junkie that I weirdly tend to forget he's under the RCP roof now.
@HunterTech<br><br>"I only get annoyed when people decide he's suddenly the most amazing thing ever, which he really isn't. Even on his most competent scores, it's unlikely many would recognize him as one of the greats. Respect him, sure, but not think he's out of this world."<br><br>Exactly. Hans, for all the criticism he gets (much of it for good reason), has written some of the best film music of all time (seriously, having listened to huge amounts of Williams and Goldsmith, I still find Science & Religion my favorite cue ever). On the other hand, Lorne has written innumerable adequate-to-good scores, but none that I can recall are iconic. I'd say the closest he's come is in the form of his contributions to some of Zimmer's work (personally, I think his Kick It theme is the most interesting of those in Inception), but even then he hasn't done anything as memorable as Djawadi's theme from Batman Begins.Michael - reread the second half of my previous comment. And no, I don't think Genius or Churchill are no good; I wasn't impressed by the second, to be honest, but Genius is really cool - like an updated version of Frost/Nixon, one of my very favorite Zimmer/RCP scores.<br><br>Edmund - much appreciated.<br><br>Overall, I too am baffled by many of these comments; clearly there is a middle ground between "Lorne is shit." and "Lorne is absolutely amazing.", but this seems to be missed.<br><br>And by the way, I'm actually super happy for Lorne's success - I think he deserves it given the quality and quantity of his work, and he seems like a super nice guy to boot (how many composers regularly respond to people on Facebook?). However, this doesn't mean I can't simultaneously point out the fact that much of his work is very, very similar to work he's done previously. Indeed, I think this is more of an issue for Lorne than Hans, perhaps because he takes on sooooooo many projects.I agree. His Justice League theme is just a deconstruct of his Batman theme. Clever, yeah sure - he's done similar things with the Men In Black sequels and I'm sure there's others I can't think of right now - but I personally dont consider Elfman's involvement in this new DCEU to be very welcome. Zimmer paints a different canvas than Elfman, and I love both their works. It was a missed opportunity.<br>Yeah... I'm not sure about Elfman's wave. The guy decided to bring back his old Batman theme instead of actually writing a new one. He has to re-invent himself. <br>
Seven with ZimmerYeah, Silvestri, Newman, Goldenthal and JNH too. The six most popular "new" composers, along with Horner, of the 80's and 90's.I saw a few clips from the movie on youtube. The score sounded really good. Very unlike Djawadi and very beautiful fantasy music! Can't waitI saw a few clips from the movie on youtube. The score sounded really good. Very unlike Djawadi and very beautiful fantasy music! Can't waitHonestly, I do feel bad for Elfman, because for Chrissakes hes been doing 50 Shades of Grey these days, and the last memorable scores I have of him are from 2012. But I don't think Zimmer or even Elfman for that matter are done as yet. I predict by the end of this decade Zimmer will have a new wave in popularity wash in. I'm just waiting for Elfman's wave right now...not quite seeing it yet.
Glad you caught it Rockhound. Think the others were too wound up to notice !!i was trying to be funny.Pete you are funny, although u demand from others to talk about the actual soundtrack from this page, you start to talk also about another soundtrack. but ok.... i think Forgotten is a very boring track and adds nothing to the actual scene. a variation of his theme from the track Hero would have been much more intense for the ending. sadly we got 9 boring minutes of thematic development and instrumentation. Lorne can do much better as the track Hero from the same soundtrack shows.Zimmer got X-Men: Dark Phoenix this year. And I have a hard time believing he is only scoring that film this year. Zimmer always does more than 1 film a year.No need for petty cursing .<br><br>We can discuss the soundtrack instead ! <br><br>Forgotten is cool track.Itís definitely one of Bayís best movies. Wish he would make more drama based film obvious with some action. Canít cope with more robots ! The ending of the film is so emotional and this track gave goosebumps at the end. Did sound very similar to the end of The Last Knight"Boring . Talk about the actual soundtrack or change the subject."<br><br>Ok, so someone else gets us on this topic, an arguement occurs, and NOW, only when you've realized you're losing the arguement, do you decide that this page is only for 12 strong. Which it's not. This is a forum we talk about whatever we want here.<br><br>But what a childish and pathetic attempt at avoiding our points. Just dismissively saying "Boring! Change the subject! My ears can't handle this criticism!!! Wah, wah, wah!" I guarantee you the next step after this is going to be petty cursing.

This is the first official release of (part of) the Wayne Manor/Moody Bruce suite, isn't it?

Ds2017-11-07 20:31:03
Yes... except "officially" the TDK medley contains: Why So Serious? / Like A Dog Chasing Cars / Why Do We Fall / Introduce A Little Anarchy / The Fire Rises.
That's according to the booklet and the scene selection on the Blu-ray. And that's hilarious because selecting "Why Do We Fall" leads you right in the middle of the actual Like a Dog Chasing Cars, and "Introduce a Little Anarchy" leads you to the Moody Bruce segment.

They shouldn't have let the intern take care of the track list :-p

Hybrid Soldier2017-11-07 20:47:39
Not as laughable as POTC medley honestly...

They mixed up the Jack Sparrow suite with the film cue "Captain Jack Sparrow" and credited it to Hans & Trevor Morris... And credited the "One Day" as in the OST to Hans, Jackman, Gire & Sponsler while in fact, nothing from Gire/Sponsler is in that medley...

Who do they hire to do that ? Ask me ! I know my shit in cuesheet area ! lol

Michael Fields2017-11-08 05:44:10
But what about original suites for the third Pirates movie? I mean "New Love Suite" or "Marry Me" (written by Zimmer and Jackman). It's the same material, but slightly rearranged.

mittens2018-01-28 18:02:41
Yes, some really, really bad work on that part...

I saw it at the cinema and it was wonderful!
I regret having missed his concert in Paris.
Do you know if he will make a future concert in France?
I hope to meet him one day
Thank you!

DT-1138 reply Replies: 0 || 2017-11-14 00:23:23
I have to say, I like the presentation of the Electro Suite on here. I feel the original was perhaps too long and repetitive, and so to me it benefits from the shorter length.

Waymann reply Replies: 2 || 2017-11-07 22:53:04
I listened to the digital version last friday and I didnít think much of it. I liked it but I wasnít blow away by it and didnít feel the urge to listen to it again over the weekend. But today I finally received the blu-ray and watched it in my home theater and holy damn... The Dolby Atmos track truly makes this an experience. Itís like you are in the arena and the sound quality is impeccable. Also this killer Dolby Atmos track accompanied with the footage of the concert truly brings this whole thing alive. I think the blu-ray is the best way to experience this concert (again). No cd or LP will do the same.

I didnít see this concert live but a few years ago I saw Hans Zimmer and his team play the Inception Medley live on the WSA concert in Belgium which was already an experience on itís own. This concernt is the closed to what I experienced back then.

Marts2017-11-08 00:05:57
Yeah, you have to watch it and feel it. Listening to the digital CD does not do it justice. The audio/visual quality is awesome.

Mephariel2017-11-08 01:40:21
I listen to all the tracks on MP3 multiple times but I agree with you that the quality is pretty disappointing. I thought a lot of the recordings were too soft. The show is amazing with the visuals.

I got some questions after reading the booklet.
1. Why does James Newton Howard get credit for The Dark Knight music? I thought those pieces were composed by Zimmer alone.
2. Why does Ryan Rubin and Alex Gibson, two music editors, get credits for Interstellar?

Brent2017-11-04 08:20:00
James gets a credit because he co-wrote (almost) all the major themes of TDK trilogy. The only piece Hans truly wrote himself (at least to my knowledge) is the Jokerís theme. TDKR was the only film in the franchise to not have James a part of it (although his themes remain).

Hybrid Soldier2017-11-04 10:10:40
No, it's because technically JNH is credited on every single cue of BB & TDK. But the suite is HZ's music.

And on some projects Hans gives cuesheet credits for Music Editors, especially Nolan films (they will get something like 2% of each cue), so they are the ones appearing in Interstellar cuesheet.

MuroFilm2017-11-04 19:30:03
Why isnít Balfe credited ?

Mike (OTM)2017-11-04 19:38:27
He didn't do any of the music here, as far as I know.

James2017-11-05 00:35:02

Marts2017-11-04 11:58:37
Well, they didn't know Lisa would perform really. She only did originally in NZ and AUS in 2017, this was a long time before that. Maybe they didn't even know they would tour in 2017, it's fantastic we got this show, if we got Lisa it would have been another year before it came out.

I like all the tracks, but there are a few that are my highlights!
- chevaliers de sangreal (just simply beautiful)
- The lion king (childhood memories)
- youíre so cool (love the theme)
- journey to the line (small, but powerfull with a dash of epicness)
- electro suite (i like the agression)
- interstellar (altough iím not very fond of the soundtrack)
-inception (time is my #1 track, what aan amazing piece of music)

Iím curious what your favorites are....

Marts2017-11-04 11:56:33
I have to say Pirates medley is my favourite, it's just epic and the violins are beautiful.

I like it all though. Personally Interstellar is my favourite soundtrack ever but it's a bit harder to do justice to it here without the huge organs. Lion King also, Lebo has such charisma and fills the whole place with energy!

Hybrid, will a deluxe edition for this album be released? I remember reading somewhere on a website that there would be, and I'm not sure whether to buy the standard version now, or wait for a month or two for the deluxe version.

Laurens2017-11-04 09:25:18
In the original statement they announced a deluxe edition but when pre-orders came about, they posted an additionel statement saying that they had mistakenly announced the deluxe edition. So Iíd think it wonít happen but of course you can never be 100% sure.

Hybrid Soldier2017-11-04 10:08:44
No Deluxe.

Can anyone tell me why the Prague concert was decided to be the one the footage was shot at? Is it something to do with the whole orchestra? I some versions of Hans's ealrier work I see reference to "The City of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra", does Hans have close ties with this orchestra and choir or is it just coinsedence?

Yeah, I think something weird is going on. On Amazon.fr, they sell the CD and DVD but not the Bluray anymore.
I ordered mine in a shop, I hope there won't be any issue.

Saw it now 3 times. In Mannheim, Frankfurt and toady at the Cinema. Really a fantastic show. Even in the Cinema it works really well. Thanks to Hans and the wonderful musicians for this great experience

dannyXXL2017-10-02 14:14:56
what was your favorite concert? mannheim, frankfurt or at the cinema?

Julian2017-10-03 02:18:13
My favourite was in Mannheim. The Mixing of the Sound in a Football Stadium, like it was in Frankfurt, is really hard. Sometimes you didn't recognize the Melody and the Mixing was bad. So i talked to other People there, if they had the same perception like me. And there were some people, who said, that they had the same feeling about the Sound. Later on, towards the second half of the concert, the Sound was good. But they needed some time to find the right mix for the location. So it wasn't a bad Concert and you also had the Highlihts with Trevor Horn and Lisa Gerrard but for the Mixing i prefer the Mannheim Concert in 2016. So for the Cinema. It's filmed in a classical Way. You don't have the experimental Concertfilm like Rammstein's Live in Paris Concert (you really have to see it) The Footage was very good. You get another point of view, another angles of the Stage and it was really interessting to see the people performing and how they react to each other. And also the Mixing of the Sound was really good. You noticed every Instrument in the right moment, really good job by the Producers. Overall i can say you should get the DVD or Blu Ray. It's a good Thing, if you missed the Live Show. But to be part of the Crowd in front of the Stage will always be the best way to experience Hans Music. And everytime i watched the show, i wanted to join the Band on the Stage and having a little Jam Session, even in the Cinema :D. So fucking great musicians and great Music.

Itīs sad, that a lot of sources in the web are talking about, that the recording was made in June 2017. That was so wrong! And sad that Thelma & Louise was missing. But of course its a great show too. [And the best: I filmed for me the complete show at Frankfurt; with Trevor Horn,....and Lisa Gerrard] :)
