My problem with JL is that it's a small score for a composer with as many facets as Elfman. The music is uninspired and (taking one or another track) ends as it begins, nothing catches yours ears beyond of the romantic moments and of the new interpretations of the themes for the heroes.<br><br>@mpolonest<br><br><I actually love that score, but I think the main issue is Elfman completely ignoring what came before and trying to force the classic themes.><br><br>Elfman had two paths: Ignore everything and do things his way or respect what Zimmer did and maintain the sound of previous films. What did he do? Yeah, it still has the Journey to the Line / Time four-chord power anthem thing going on, but outside of those themes you have some really creative material that at times doesn't even feel stylistically RCP, and hell, even those structurally-simplistic themes are unusually well-orchestrated. And there's a real orchestra!Some of you may like this guy's cover of Brothers in Arms! Hello great team of Hans Zimmer,<br><br>I was recently listening to "The Might of Rome" (Gladiator soundtrack) and I am craving to listen the long version of the piece around 2:38 - 2:48 (something like an oriental flute). Does it exist as a standalone composition? @Edmund<br>Iím in the same boat. When I watch a movie I normally donít pay attention to the music unless itís really distinctive. As a stand alone listening experience I usually want to get music that fits a mood and can hold my interest throughout. Take Silvestriís Avengers score for example. The big statements of the main theme and some of the action cues are excellent. Unfortunately itís surrounded by generic underscore that slows the album down imo. But then you have TASM2, which constantly has something going on no matter what. I feel like thatís something which does relate to the directors, not so much the talent level of the composers.<br><br>@olive<br>Ben Wallfisch is LEAGUES ahead of JXL as a composer, partly because heís had years of experience in film composing. Hopefully his recent successes give him more high profile projects.<br><br>As for Justice League, I actually love that score, but I think the main issue is Elfman completely ignoring what came before and trying to force in the classic themes. Elfman should have had more freedom to work on the themes he and Williams wrote.<br>
It's a half-truth to everyone who makes up the RCP team, unfortunately. <br><br>But I honestly doubt that ANYONE wants to work with XL.<br><br>Snyder worked with him 3 times. 300, BvS and Man of Steel. Sometimes I even get the impression that he's always liked Tom's approach more than Zimmer's approach. See all the percussion and synths of all those scores that are far more present in the Xl field than Zimmer's.Got this today..well not my music type so pass it...Andrew's second solo feature...<br><br><br>Now still waiting for that Sky Hunter release... :(@Hybrid, what happened with Trevor? Why his scores are not listed in the page? ThanksIt is somewhat bizarre that you all are thinking directors actually want to work with Junkie. Surely, the only reason anyone hires him is that they want Zimmer who is not available. Yes, some may have heard Mad Max but it would be silly to think anyone actively wants a Junk score.

Just finished watching the serie today and I'm really sad since there is alot of great material not released in the soundtrack I wish one day the complete soundtrack released for this " the greatest documentary ever" for me.

Beautiful score, perfectly fitting. Reminds me a little of 'The Land Before Time' feeling. Really like the theme, subtle but lovely. I also like how there is less tracks and the tracks are longer than PEII with a bit more weight. Too many short cues in the PEII soundtrack to really get into as a whole.

This score, I have to say, moves me more than Planet Earth II did. Planet Earth II really pushed the "let's have an epic theme," which was fine, but said epic theme was kind of...generic. This theme sounds like more thought was put into it, and it sounds like Zimmer had a bit more of an imprint on this score, too. It's nice to hear some unabashedly melodic stuff from him in an era where experimenting with soundscapes seems to have become his thing.*

*yes, I'm waiting for disagreement on that last sentence... ;)

I'm just curious to know just how involved he was this time. He was pretty busy this year so its hard for me to imagine that he had a lot of time to have serious involvement. Although I hope I'm wrong haha, it'd be a nice to get a melodic movie score from him again. This is great!

It is also worth noting that Jasha Klebe wrote additional music for this score.

I think Zimmer did more this time than last time. Last time, it specifically stated that he only did the main theme. But with that said, I have a feeling most of it was him guiding rather than actually writing much.

George, well, he no doubt did "The Blue Planet." (Watch me be wrong...)

He also, at least, co-wrote a track with Radiohead. But notice that, unlike Planet Earth II, it says, "Score by Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea, and David Fleming." Planet Earth II had "theme by Hans Zimmer" as a separate heading.

Zimmer definitely wrote "The Blue Planet." In BBC's behind the scenes video, only Zimmer's name was on the cuesheet.

Agreed that this is a lovely score. However, some parts of it sound very Edward Scissorhands to me. The Family Theme in particular.

Yeah, love hearing some orchestral melodic stuff again - still pretty minimal but I like that. I think the PEII theme fit that perfectly, and this theme does too. Puts you right into the big blue.

Just finished listening to the whole score. It is mostly fantastic. Epic, powerful, and dynamic.

The main theme not as addicting and powerful as Planet Earth II, but better written, a bit more sophisticated, and just feels right for the subject matter.

Besides that, some of the best cues are the ones with vocals like "Surfing Dolphins," "A Forest Awakens," and "Ducks And Currents."

If you are looking for the more of a Zimmeresque cue, check out "Walrus: The Right Piece of Ice," which reminds me of many Zimmer solemn ending pieces like "Home" from The Lone Ranger.

Just as I suspect, the best Zimmer score this year.
