Because they didn't work direcly in this score, but their material from the previous one was reused.Does anyone know why some of the composer names are in brackets? Thanks!thanks4:05 of "STEALTH" some of the best soulful action music I've heard from a Zimmer score. I wonder who wrote that particular section. This the type of stuff I would play trying to rush a pregnant woman to the hospitalIn case he's visiting this site, I wanna say 'Thank You' to Ashton Gleckman who does the 'Behind the Score' episodes on YouTube. I loved the 1-hour episode for the Transformers scores and I actually learned a lot. Very educational. I found the video by accident and now I plan on watching his other videos as well.

Job well done, my friend.
@Hybrid
You don't add anymore Trevor Morris things ?Probably for chronological purposes
even though the movie uses a shortened version of Romanian Wind at that timei saw the movie a couple of weeks ago again and the showdown in the school is very well shot and intense and trevors music is effective there. you can hear track 8 and 19 in that scene. a really good action scene.
===============================

I agree.

And I think at the end of the day the movie itself is not the type of movie that could win people over with its score. No matter how successful and popular it is and no matter how good the score is. I Am Number 4 was part of the YA craze that took over Hollywood a few years back (we all know how people feel about those movies), and even the most successful YA movies (like Twilight) are not exactly known for their scores.

People - even film critics who are supposed to talk about all aspects of the movie - were too busy talking about half-naked characters and Kristen Stewart's acting..... and completely ignoring the good work done by Alexandre Desplat.

It was pretty much the same with I Am Number Four...

It's not that Trevor created a "bad" score, it's simply a case of a nice, little score that went under the radar. No one bothered to talk about it..... Just like his score for Torque, which as far as I'm concerned is one of his best scores.I just find it odd how people gravitate to the triumphant or inspirational music first, rather than the more subtle, unique pieces.
===========================

I totally get what you're saying. I also get kinda frustrated when a "big" track overshadows an entire score. The best recent examples are IMO the Transformers scores. I don't blame folks for gravitating towards the epic sound and the power anthems, but A LOT of subtle, equally great tracks end up getting completely ignored. And just like you, they're usually my favorite tracks.

But why most people don't think like us?

The reason I think is because those "big tracks" are presented - most of the time - during the most memorable moments in those movies. They immediately get people's attention. They're stuck in their mind along with those iconic images. And I think by nature, people are more attracted to the big and "in your face". For most casual listeners the more subtle tracks work in the context of the movie and they absolutely do notice them while watching the actual film. But unlike you and I they don't feel the need to listen to them separately. They're too busy paying attention to the "big track". That goes even for some score fans.

While tracks like the Star War theme, the Indy theme, the Transformers theme, the Gladiator theme, the Godfather theme, the Armageddon theme, the Pirates theme, the Lord of the Rings theme are so big, melodic abd easily digestable that folks simply can't resist them. And when there are vocals involved as well (like Gladiator) it's even better, because people treat it as a full-blown song. An emotional song that they can listen to over and over again.

The subtle tracks simply can't win against that. Sadly....

By the way, speaking of The Island, My Name is Lincoln (as much as I like it) is not my favorite track of the score. The more subtle opening track (The Island Awaits You) and especially the Lima One Alpha theme are my personal favorite tracks. Of course, they're nowhere near My Name is Lincoln, in terms of popularity.
Why is Romanian Wind not sequenced after Case Re-Opened? Is not the former 7M48 and the latter 7M47?
Yeah that is true, canít argue there lol

And is it me or does ďCalypso Must Be ReleasedĒ sound like Black Hawk Down?To be fair there is a lot of King Arthur in At World's End too. Just the general feeling you get from the action tracks in both scores is virtually identical. Hell, one of the main themes from King Arthur even appears when Bootstrap Bill remembers that Will is his son.@MrTweedy
Thatís totally fine, everyone has their own favorite HZ scores, which is awesome!

Itís funny though, I feel like DMC is far more schizophrenic than AWE. Now donít get me wrong, I absolutely love DMC. Itís the score that got me into Hans Zimmer. But still, I feel like a major part of that score is note-for-note reprises of cues/themes from COTBP. Not to mention the temp tracking of King Arthur.

AWE always felt far more original to me, especially considering that the entire tone of the music shifts from the ďrockínírollĒ sound of the first two to a more traditional score (at least by Hans Zimmer standards lol)@MrTweedy

Just curious, what scores do you considered to be Zimmer's best?The Pinnacle of Hans' career?
Although I really like this score, I don't agree. But hey, I know it's just a matter of opinion, okay? ;)

Of course it shows Hans strengths in almost every area (action, drama, romance, comedy...) but for me it's too much of a medley of previous works, without much personality.
It feels a bit like a palette with too many colors. From the action sequences borrowed from Drop Zone, to the Morricone inspirations for Jack's Sequences, to Gladiator's duduk that ended up there with no real reason, to a beautiful Love Theme that brings another new shape to the sonic identity... it's like the score sometimes goes schizophrenic.

Though each individual idea is really enjoyable to listen to, I think Hans has made scores that are much more cohesive and enjoyable as a whole!
i also think it is an underrated score. especially the action music has a couple of nice touches. i saw the movie a couple of weeks ago again and the showdown in the school is very well shot and intense and trevors music is effective there. you can hear track 8 and 19 in that scene. a really good action scene. the emotional music is nothing ground breaking, but a lovely listen.Y'know, it's funny. The big names that always get the most attention in film music are often not my favorite tracks of the scores they represent. Now We Are Free, Arrival to Earth, Like A Dog Chasing Cars, Star Wars Main Theme, Indiana Jones Main Theme, Infinite White, One Day, Circle of Life, The Fellowship. Though they are the most well known, they're usually nowhere near the peak of quality of their scores.

I noticed this the most in Hans Zimmer's concerts (not World of Hans Zimmer mind you). The parts he played from The Dark Knight Trilogy in particular usually had the least substance. Just the bombastic tracks. The only choice I agreed with was Time from Inception. There was no Am I Not Merciful, A Watchful Guardian, Sunrise Over Pride Rock, none of that.

Even with Star Wars, the main theme and the Force theme are solid pieces of music, but neither come close to the beauty of Princess Leia's theme, or the wondrous Yoda theme.

Same with Lord of the Rings. The Fellowship Reunited, Very Old Friends, Gollum, and The Breaking of the Fellowship are much more substantial pieces than The Fellowship Theme alone in my opinion.

Can't say anything about My Name is Lincoln because I haven't finished The Island score yet, but yeah. I just find it odd how people gravitate to the triumphant or inspirational music first, rather than the more subtle, unique pieces.Thanks guys, will check out these cues.Hmm, aside from "The Guardian Suite' I don't think I've heard any other tracks from this score. And I have a feeling I'm not the only one....lol.

Speaking of.........I would most definitely put "The Guardian Suite' right up there next to "Now We Are Free" and "My Name is Lincoln". It's *that* good and powerful. Shame that the movie is not as popular as The Island and Gladiator. If it was, that suite would've been one of the most popular film score tracks with millions of views on YouTube. It certainly deserves it.Very underrated score. As already pointed out by a couple of reviewers, it's a nice, little throwback to MV/RC's Golden Years and Trevor's own scores from 1997 to 2002. Give it a listen if you can. It's not long and it's worth it.

Everyone, I have a question for you about a Mission Impossible Fallout movie by who will score that film. Last time I saw Henry Jackman was removed from IMDB app. But I found out the news about confirmed about Lorne Balfe will score that movie because Lorne Balfe seem all over the pictures. But I kept waiting for a film music reporter website about who will score for the mission impossible fallout movie, but we will find out the update for next month I believe that.

Miguel2018-03-30 18:45:31
I facebooked Balfe and ask him but he said he was not doing it even though the music in the trailer is by him

This is feels like a very temped soundtrack, only that explains why the score is so generic. I wonder which movies music scenes producer-director used to make lorne do this.

Track 8 - is Tron legacy (dont know maybe he worked on it, powell was involved maybe he was too)

Mephariel2018-03-23 16:35:49
Is there a Balfe score that is not very temped? Every single Balfe score I listened to is basically giving an old score a fresh set of paint.

AndrewP2018-03-26 22:47:52
Mephariel - please educate us . Genius is what ? Blackwood is what ? Marcella is what ?

Mephariel2018-03-27 04:42:02
Genius? You mean like in the track "Forbidden Love" where he tempted the shit out of "Where We're Going" in Interstellar?

Edmund Meinerts2018-03-27 08:52:48
Mephariel, don't expect any sort of objectivity when it comes to the many-headed Balfe shill that is Andrew/Andreas/Andy. Although I note that even he has struggled to say anything nice about Hurricane Heist or PR: Uprising...some things are beyond the realm if the possible I suppose.

JamesT2018-03-27 19:40:39
@Mephariel

What score is the track Forbidden Love from?

Max Potcats2018-03-27 19:55:51
From Genius, I find some little similarities with Quantifiable Connection from interstellar complete score, but nothing shameful, if it's a temp this is not the worst we heard..

Micheal2018-03-28 16:21:13
Edmund has to me move on.you have an issue with Balfe .we know .Solo will be out soon enough for you and your tissues

Mike2018-03-28 16:26:40

Edmund Meinerts2018-03-28 23:58:43
...and the tone policing, right on schedule. We brook nothing but pure unadulterated praise for Lord Balfe around these parts!

SiMusic2018-03-29 00:21:42
Yet again Edmund canít help himself .

Zimmerfan2018-03-29 00:31:10
Iím not a big balfe fan but honestly Edmund you have issues.Balfe obviously knows what he is doing and people keep hiring him.we get it that you love John Powell but not everyone else does.So give it a rest with the balfe bashing because itís boring now .Night

superultramegaa2018-03-29 01:18:19
Once again the broken translation/punctuation regulars can't help themselves.

Mephariel2018-03-29 03:19:36
@Max

I'll be really specific. The entire first section of "Forbidden Love," the melodic baseline came directly from 6:03 of "Where We're Going."

It is actually pretty obvious.

Ian2018-03-29 06:28:00
Mephariel - I have no issue calling Lorne or anyone else for temping/recycling cues, but honestly those two cues seem incidentally similar if at all. And Forbidden Love is *drastically* superior, so even if there was temping involved, Lorne did genuinely good work there IMO

Edmund Meinerts2018-03-29 08:51:02
Why do you guys keep mentioning Powell? I'm not.

It is out. Not bad but it doesn't sound very epic or memorable. Tomb Raider had better moments.

The orchestration is so empty.

MrZimmerFan2018-03-22 18:05:12
I will said this, is more enjoyable than Hurricane Heist.

But the first was more memorable

Anonymous2018-03-22 18:15:58
yeah but this movie would be better fit for a jablonsky score.

he has bigger themes and a richer sound

MrZimmerFan2018-03-22 18:36:27
The first movie has memorable theme and enjoyable action tracks, this one, has one or three actions cues i have enjoyed, more than than i expected, but the main theme is forgetteable.

Jablonsky would fit if is the Jablonsky, for example, for TF5 or first Transformers (and i am guilty pleasure fan for Battleship)

And now i lost respect in the whole internet :D

George2018-03-22 18:49:45
Agreed. Itís simply not that memorable. Out of Pacific Rim 2, a wrinkle in time, tomb raider, and hurricane heist I thought for sure at least ONE would be a hit. Unfortunately all four of them seem pretty forgettable. Really hoping Hans puts something memorable and iconic together for X Men Dark Phoenix.

MrZimmerFan2018-03-22 18:53:03
At least Tomb Raider and A Wrinkle of Time have a theme.

mpolonest1232018-03-22 19:46:03
There are some fun action cues and an interesting mix of electronics that sounds like a hybrid of Tron Legacy and Chappie but is honestly so forgettable outside of that. Why on earth did they opt out of using Ramin's themes?

It would be like if POTC2 came out and instead of using "He's a Pirate" or any of the other motifs, Disney hired a Hans Zimmer protege to come in and write their own take on the material. When I go to see Star Wars I expect Star Wars. With this I expected at least ties to the first one.

superultramegaa2018-03-22 20:04:00
The thematic continuity complaint is a problem with the movie industry in general now. Not just Pacific Rim. It's a problem with Marvel, DC, and hell, any movie series really. Even the new TMNT movies, as good as Jablonsky's score for the second one was, still couldn't keep the original themes.

The only ones that do keep the original thematic material lately have been Transformers, Star Wars, Star Trek (at least the first 2's scores I don't know about the 3rd's), Pirates of the Caribbean, a few animated film series, and Harry Potter.

Not sure if this is a director or composer fault (probably director/studio), but it's just something we're going to have to deal with for a while until the next phase of film score trends come along.

MrZimmerFan2018-03-22 20:10:47
@superultramega: The three Star Trek movies are compose by the same composer, and the producer is J.J Abrams.

And the theme is the same.

mpolonest1232018-03-22 20:44:18
@Superultramega

What's odd is that the PR theme was used in the marketing. Same with Zimmers material being used in the Justice League trailers, so obviously the studio liked it enough. Probably the directors choice.

mpolonest123 2018-03-23 13:34:22
I was also thinking about something; Lorne Balfe worked on Terminator Genisys, a score in which the original thematic material was used appropriately but also combined with his new material. How a sequel score SHOULD be. Obviously this was the directors choice. It seems like a lot of these newer directors have no clue how music works, something which should be one of the least difficult parts of making a film.

MrZimmerFan2018-03-23 14:19:27
The only themes in Terminator Genysis was the main theme and part of the Reese theme, i guess.

The rest is new material by Balfe.

Jean-Luc reply Replies: 0 || 2018-03-23 02:54:31
I like that soundtrack, I think that score is fun action, but I'm noticing Shao Industries are more like Tron Legacy music to me. My Opinion about Pacific Rim first one by Ramin Djawadi's score is better and his theme is perfect!

MrZimmerFan2018-02-22 11:48:50
I don't think a discography like Milan post fake tracks.

There is must something wrong

Balfe2018-02-22 14:54:09
I would not be surprised if this was done by Balfe finally trying out his real compositional skills outside of him just acting as Hans' copy assistant. Everything that Balfe has done on his own to date is abysmal (okay The Lego Batman movie had some flair but that was probably done by the next generation of assistants).

Please go back to Ironclad and listen to Balfe before he was HBalfe, to hear his skills. Not very good, right? The man is an arranger not a composer.

This score will be utterly crap or it will sound like Tron and Transformers.

Shame as Del Toro and Steven Knight work with real composers like Max Richter who would have excelled here.

Well, the fact that Djawadi was not mentioned in the credits confirms that Balfe had not used the theme written by him, right?

Brian2018-02-25 22:07:55
Olive - wrong.Balfe has said it is used in the film on Twitter.

Olive2018-02-25 22:24:06
Okay, I'll wait for the more detailed credits in the release.

Damn the tracks are really short, i was hoping for some long epic music. Hopefully he'll deliver on the epic (I'm sure he will)

Edmund Meinerts2018-02-25 18:40:10
"Shatterdome Attacked", at least we'll get one 7-minute action cue...

Also. TRACKLIST YOU GET DID WHERE???

ThePhantasm 2018-02-25 19:36:20
yeah that's just one though. We'll see!! no info on a release date, on lornes twitter it says it's coming out very soon.

Edmund Meinerts2018-02-25 20:48:24
A lot of the time when a score's final action/battle sequence is split up among several tracks I edit them together into one track myself in Audacity. The most recent example was Black Panther with "The Great Mound Battle/Glory to Bast/The Jabari, Pt II". And my edit of the final battle music from King Arthur runs nearly 15 minutes. Maybe something similar will be possible for the last few tracks of this score.

I am getting a stronger Power Rangers/Transformers vibe from this cover art than what I recall from the first Pacific Rim movie.

Everan2018-02-09 17:30:43
The Jaegers clearly transform into giant planes and cars. Duh

Wasn't John Paesano going to do this? Why he ended up not doing it? I think Balfe is a good choice for this movie but I would have loved to hear Paesano's work on this.

Anyway, I hope Balfe keeps the main theme from the previous movie because it was amazing. I think is one of Djawadi's best themes (at least in movie scores)

Edmund Meinerts2018-02-09 12:27:10
One positive development of the switch from Paesano to Balfe is that I think it's much likelier we hear more of Djawadi's themes from the first Pacific Rim. A fellow RCP member would be more inclined to keep it in the family, so to speak.

MrZimmerFan2018-02-09 12:48:12
Paseano recorded the score last fall in Vienna, the producers dropped out.

As much like Balfe, i would like hear the Paesano's score.
