Hybrid wrote somewhere here that something happened between Streitenfeld and Ridley during Prometheus,and that was why HG-W was brought on for some rescoringI was wondering about this too. Like all of a sudden, after a couple of Ridley Scott collaborations, he disappeared.Streitenfeld's score for "All I See Is You" isn't added to this site. Does it mean, that Marc left the company?Extremely pleased with the release, remastering, and liner booklet notes.  Nice to finally have all of this music.  Sure, some things could have been done differently, like anything else. My only real gripes left with the score is the somewhat uninspired choral writing (and the fact that the choir sounds like samples in a lot of moments) and the reused percussion samples from every JXL action score ever since Mad Max.After repeated listens of the score and seeing the film 3 times, I'd say now that the score is MUCH better than I initially gave it credit for.<br>Alita's theme (the 4 notes first heard at 1:53 in A Discovery) is used many times throughout the score in many instrumental varieties and variations, and used to great effect in emotional scenes<br>(I Don't Even Know My Own Name, What's Your Dream?, In Time You'll Remember, With Me, I'd Give You My Heart, What Did You Do), In the Clouds especially)<br>And do yourself a favor and get I See Church from somewhere, it's the 2nd best action track of the score after Motorball.<br>--------------------<br>In short, I would now give it a 4.5 / 5 from my previous 3 / 5Hybrid, what's the story with Finale vs. Safe Now? On this page Finale is listed as Jackman and Zimmer. On the OST page, it's Jackman, Zimmer, & Jasha Klebe. The two versions are different too. Finale has a longer intro and a big outro that makes the Time thing even more obvious. So are they two different tracks with different credits, or is Safe Now just Finale clipped short?Oh man, that's a tough question...I haven't listened to Curse of the Black Pearl in a while.... He's credited on almost every track for themes used... "Fog Bound" is the big Klaus Badelt cue from that movie (the real, 5-minute one in the movie is pretty much all Klaus I believe). <br><br>But Hans appears almost everywhere in POTC 1. Sometimes it's arrangements of his themes by the other guys, sometimes it's parts of the tunes that he wrote put directly in like he wrote them... The following scenes are pretty much directly Hans, if I remember right (this is the list I'm referencing — but as you can see, Zimmer's name is almost everywhere hans-zimmer . com/index.php?rub=disco&id=1128): <br><br>3. Captain Jack Sparrow (Hans wrote the big theme here, as well as the Jack Sparrow stuff at the end)<br>8. Breaking the Chains (more Jack Sparrow theme...) <br>17. Boarding the Dauntless (Jack Sparrow theme...)<br>24. Moonlight Serenade (Zimmer said he wrote this scene like Cinderella walking into a Metallica concert)<br> <br>Aaaaand a lot of the final fighting music is lifted directly out of the suite Zimmer wrote, so it's 90% him. But once again, his themes as arranged by other people appear everywhere. Hybrid can answer way more about all this than I can.<br>Oh wow! That’s all really interesting. So how much of the OST is really HAnS Zimmer then???
Hans was composing The Last Samurai while the first POTC was being made. He had promised Tom Cruise and Edward Zwick (might have even signed a contract) that he would only work on The Last Samurai and no other movies at that time. So while Hans agreed to write the POTC themes for Gore Verbinski, he wasn't allowed to be credited due to his obligations to the Last Samurai. So he wrote a few themes and then handed the score off to Klaus Badelt, who got the "name" credit on the score. But the whole score is really Klaus, Geoff Zanelli, Nick Glennie Smith, Ramin Djawadi, and a few others doing arrangements of the theme that Hans wrote (and Hans writing for a couple scenes incognito, like when Elizabeth first sees the skeleton pirates). Then Klaus did do the dark "Fog Bound/Underwater March" tune, as mentioned.Can’t insult me! I am genuinely curious. What’s this about The Last Samurai???I'm not saying this to insult David, but it's funny to me that even now, 16 years later, after so many clarifications from HZ and others, people still get confused because of the way POTC 1 got credited. All because Hans had to work on The Last Samurai (which is one of my favorite scores of his, so I guess it was worth the confusion).Saw the film last sunday and loved it. Also loved what Tom Holkenborg did hear. It did not felt nor 300. RoE nor Mad MAx. It's something else and loved it how it worked in context.he is working on the new Terminator movie?! :O

That's always an adventure in itself.<br><br>The source cues are not hard to find, sometimes it can be tricky to find the right performance/conductor.<br><br>In the case of TTRL, it's mostly the Beam cues that are difficult to find. Francesco Lupica wrote several pieces of Beam cues specifically for the movie, 5 of them which were used. There's also the 'Concerto for Beam' written by Powell, and there's the 'Sit back & Relax' album that was used. So to me, that's a pretty substantial (and important!) amount of music  that made it into the cut, which hardly anyone ever talks about.<br><br>Anyway, maybe a future project will tackle most of these issues.So he's scoring that and the new terminator? Does anybody has any info if it will be available on CD again? It is out of stock everywhere or even absolutely disappeared from the stores (like amazon, which doesn't even list it anymore)
It's weird that a non limited CD that was released barely a month ago goes out of print so soon.

Good day to you all,

Since I saw the film, and have listened to what was offered commercially for the score/soundtrack, all I can think of/hope for is that there may be a more complete version out there.

Is there any word on if there was a "for your consideration" version or what it would take to get Mr. Williams to release the Recording Sessions?

Just really loved the score and would enjoy hearing more of it without all of the effects/dialogue.

I watched the movie today and it's awesome and epic.
James Wan proof once again he is an amazing director.
The movie maintain the same level just like Man of Steel and Wonder Woman
The score, What can i say?. I really enjoyed Wonder Woman but with Aquaman, Rupert gets another level. The score in the film sounds amazing.
Now, it will be the turn of Benjamin in Shazam.

I listened to the track Arthur and it sounds really great. It's an unexpected mix of orchestra and synths (almost 80's style) with a really great theme I suppose is for Aquaman.

I hope the rest of the score is like this.

The kind of spacey synth parts reminds me of Blade Runner 2049, and for some reason, Michael Giacchino's work on Star Trek. The more orchestrated triumphant version of the theme is a little like the melodies heard on the Destiny 2 soundtrack.

Gotta agree with you, I definitely think WW is a far stronger score. That’s not to say I think Aquaman is bad, but none of the themes have really impressed me at all. The orchestral/synth hybrid is pretty cool, but once again I think it was done far better with Thor: Ragnarok.

(Will say this though; “Black Manta” is a badass track)

I think 'Arthur' is more a combination of cues than a proper suite.
Not sure, but I'd say the first part plays before 'Permission to come aboard', and the second part plays after 'The Ring of fire'.
'Reunited' is definitely the final cue.

And there's shitload of action music missing after 'The Black Manta' though :-p

OK, now that I’ve had some time to sit on this I can say that I get the praise finally. The Vangelis inspiration works wonders for the score, and it actually is integrated incredibly well (as opposed to just being there for show).

Themewise, both the Arthur and Atlanna tunes are winners. Not sure why the album is so out of sequence though. I feel like the actual film presentation would give better thematic development.

Having seen the movie, i understand why RGW chose the 80s style, because basically, Aquaman is Thor Ragnarok underwater.
Dont get me wrong, the visual spectacle is amazing and colorful ( in a good way), some of the cinematography is downright breathtaking,but i really did have a hardtime enjoying this movie in its fullness beacuse the blatant Ragnarok ripping-off here and there.., and dont get me started on the story...
Really, the visual did the heavy lifting in this movie ( and it succeeded in overcoming the weak storyline)

Mothersbaugh isn't the only person out there to use 80s synth, you know. You are after all, on the website named after perhaps the greatest pioneer of it in terms of film music.

Also, there is nothing about this film that screams "Thor Ragnarok" ripoff. If anything, the appropriate place to compare is Black Panther- however, as Aquaman and his mythology predates Black Panther by several years, that argument is rendered moot.

Sure, we have regal similarities (king, set in kingdom, evil half brother) but it literally ends there. The story is quite basic, but nowhere like Ragnarok in its entirety. Ragnarok was about two brothers putting aside their differences to stop their evil sister from unleashing Ragnarok itself, whilst Aquaman is about Arthur Curry being forced to reconnect with his Atlantean heritage, and it's explicitly a quest for him to clear Atlantis from a corrupt, purist ruler who wants to hurt the surface world because of how the humans have been mistreating the seas. Aquaman is very much its own thing, and it doesn't need any such comparisons. And I bet, it will stomp past Ragnarok at the box office overall.

Creatively speaking I can see why they choose that particular synth style, and my guess has nothing to do with that Thor Rganarok score.

It has MUCH to do with one composer: VANGELIS. You cannot see Aquaman landscapes and not to think of Vangelis (Blade Runner to be precise) and by all means, if you know well Mr. Papathanassiou's body of work, in his style.. he even has an album called OCEANIC.

I mean, RGW even uses the same exact 5 notes in which Vangelis tended to end up some of his themes, as also closing notes for one of his themes. It has nothing to do with Ragnarok.. lets not be so short sighted please.

Yes, both played in the film, and it's sort of a suite: It's split into two in the film, first part sounds close to the opening, the heavy synth part plays in really well when it's used, you'll hear it the moment it starts, no spoilers from me, but it's an awesome sequence.

OK. Aquaman is a great film with some flaws. Momoa, Heard, Wilson, Kidman & Lundgren are very good. IMO the movie has a rocky start, but from a certain scene the movie takes flight and never comes down.

Gregson-Williams' score is awesome I think. It sounds like a mix between BvS, WW & BR2049 with some gituar, drums & piano here and there. Very curious what kind of release it will get.

For me Wonder Woman is still the best DCEU movie but Aquaman isn't far behind!!! Solid 8.8

I’m in the same boat. The past few years have been disappointing in terms of Junkie’s output. Most of the scores he’s written have been rehashes of his earlier (and arguably) stronger works. You have the harsh drumming, sound design, and power anthems overlaid with electronics. It seems like he’s been on repeat since 2015.

While I doubt Mortal Engines or Alita: Battle Angel will be much different, I’m still hoping that he can at least surprise everyone with a consistently strong score.

I wonder who will be the composers for all these spinoff films ex. Birds of Prey, The Batman, Flash etc as apparently Hildur Gudnadottir is scoring the Joker film. So maybe the RCP hold on the DC films is weakening :(

I think with the spinoff films, and the detachment from the DCEU, it totally make sense to move away from RCP because directors will have more of a say how they want those films to look and sound like, so they probably will hand pick composers more in line with their own vision rather than just following the train.

That is not a bad thing at all.

Zimmer will have Dark Phoenix, The Lion King, Wonder Woman 1984, and Top Gun: Maverick in the next 2 years. I wouldn't worry about Zimmer falling to the wayside.

Any "wayside falling" by Zimmer of late has largely been by his own choice, due to spending so much time touring. The 2015-2018 period has had some of the lowest activity of Zimmer's career IMO, with a lot of the scores he's involved in being highly collaborative (even moreso than usual), rather minor works, or both. I'd say the only Zimmer scores to come out in that period that you could call significant are Batman v Superman, Dunkirk, and maaaaybe Chappie (although that one has a lot of Mazzaro/Andrew K involvement).

You can pretty much tell which project he was highly involved in by his interviews. I think he did a lot of Dunkirk and Blue Planet II, and was somewhat involved in Hidden Figures, Batman v Superman, and Inferno, and only marginally involved in Blade Runner 2049, The Boss Baby, and Planet Earth II.

Inferno is in the same category as Charlie for me, feels like Mazzaro/AK did a lot of the grunt work, and KFP3 is one of the collaborative scores I mentioned with only a few Zimmer cues.

ok RGW has written some of his best stuff Hacksaw Ridge was one of the best. wonder woman was really good Aquaman I am curious to see what he did with I'm sure It will be good and he doesn't rip off other stuff Hacksaw Ridge was a prime example very fresh and enjoyable.

Got to hear this the other day and it is phenomenal. Definitely more electronics than I was expecting (in a good way). It’s got a great blend of Orchestra, electronics and electric guitars throughout. There’s even a reoccurring riff in it that reminds me of Ramin’s Clash of the Titans. Closest thing I can compare it to is Brian Tyler’s Power Rangers score, but with a much beefier Zimmer sound.

Definitely excited for this. It’s been a down year for me in terms of RCP scores (Fallout and Solo being the big highlights for me) so hopefully this one turns out well.

Going off of James Wan’s comments it seems like the film will have more of a “swashbuckling” tone. Hopefully the music will be more adventurous in style (while still fitting in the established DCEU style of course).

RGW is a solid composer though, so I’m not worried.
