Was the scene originally supposed to be later in the film? I'd be curious to know.

It's nothing short of a masterpiece, a modern opera. The choir is beautiful, and the choice of gospel for the first track gives it a unique identity, though I'm not sure how well it meshes with the orchestra. It feels a bit off, but will hopefully improve for me on further listens.

The composition, has to me, elevated Powell to the status of the second best living composer (Williams is still first for now). Rogue One is a bit of an odd one. From what I'd heard, Desplat had joined on the condition he'd be allowed to do his own thing and not ape Williams. But once they decided to overhaul the film, they pressured him to go that exact direction. Things stayed still for a while (in which he still got paid) before he was finally let go very late into production. So the idea he sorta just left is interesting, so I'm curious to hear what that was about.

For BW, it seems very likely to me that Marvel simply were unsure about Alexandre's music, so I'm guessing they hired Balfe to do some demos and decided from there. Who knows what the exact timeline is, but I'd wager it'd have to at least be this year if he's been on it a bit. Especially with AD's name having stayed on the posters during it.Hybrid, Desplat left Rogue One just for his own idea? I know he left that movie beacuse schedule conflict for the reshoots.
But for Black Widow seems that the replacement was since months ago with Lorne writing and recording the score at the same timeht tp:// filmmusicreporter. com/2020/04/01/ track-list-for-disneys-live-action-mulan -soundtrack-album-revealed/

Why release a tracklist for an album that won't be released for another 6 months at least. That's just a punch in the gut, in my opinionSo it won't be a last minute and hasty job?No idea but he was on it for a bit, I think.

Strange and unexpected collection of additional guys for this score, Jeff Morrow who I associate with Christophe Beck rather than RC and then Kazuma Jinnouchi?! What happened to Jackman's regular dudes like Alex Belcher, Halli Cauthery etc?

Hybrid Soldier2019-07-17 12:30:51
Jeff & Alex & Evan Goldman are regular Jackman team now. Alex scored a bunch of projects, hence his absence here.

Then you have Halli, Anthony Willis or Mounsey doing all sorts of things when available.

Gavin Greenaway is the conductor

Kazuma Jinnouchi helped Jackman, that's a pleasant surprise!

Mephariel2019-07-17 05:47:48
Yep. Jinnouchi is a pretty talented composer.

ThePhantasm2019-07-17 08:06:36
He did a great job with Halo

Composer credits, for those interested.

mpolonest123 2019-07-16 19:25:25
Thanks Hybrid. It’s cool to see that Jackman worked solo on the strongest cues in the score. I wonder why the end credits piece was not included on the album though.

DT-20172019-07-16 23:17:16
Probably because it includes the OG Pokemon theme.

DT-2017 reply Replies: 0 || 2019-05-16 23:03:24
This is an okay score. Nothing super spectacular, but it fits the movie very well. The only issue I really took is that the end credits arrangement of the Pokemon video game theme is absent from the CD - I would wager quite a few people bought the CD just for that only to be disappointed. For me, it would have ended the CD perfectly.

Anybody know why it was left off? Something Nintendo told them 'no' on?

As someone who grew up with Pokémon as a kid, I am super pumped to see how Jackman approaches this. Seeing how the marketing is skewing to 80’s music (and the visuals have that neon color scheme to match the noir tone) I wonder if this will be either be fully orchestral or synthesizered.

And if he will incorporate any music from the show/games....

PikaPika2019-04-19 17:31:04
.....synthesizered

mpolonest123 2019-05-03 07:15:24
So Jackman did end up leaning heavily on the synths for this one.

While there are no standout themes here, I do think it’s a fun little score overall. “Ryme City” particularly sticks out to me as a great throwback type cue.

MrZimmerFan2019-05-06 14:34:04
There is a plenty of interesting synths here, but mostly it's ok.

Far for other works like Kingsman or Jumanji.

mpolonest123 2019-05-06 15:07:23
Jackman is one of those composers who I generally like, but not love. The only scores that he has done that have “wowed” me are both Kingsmans and to a lesser extent; Winter Soldier. (Birth of a Nation is also pretty solid)

Outside of those, most of his music ranges from fun to serviceable imo. He is talented for sure, but I’m still waiting for something else that blows me away.

JBSO992019-05-06 19:37:49
In my opinion, his Kingsman scores, Kick-Ass and his Wreck-It Ralph scores are the few great things I've heard from him, the rest being from good to generic.

I think he really has talent, but not many times is able to show it properly.

And I also think he works better in collaboration scores (like the ones with Matthew Margeson or his contributions to scores like At World's End)

anon2019-05-07 00:10:43
It's amazing how much better everyone magically sounds when working on a Zimmer score ;-).

mpolonest123 2019-05-07 01:21:52
^^ Wreck-it-Ralph, Jumanji, Predator, etc. are all good examples of scores that are enjoyable enough, but never quite impressed me on the same level as some of his peers. To his credit though, Jackman does have a fairly distinctive voice, with a slight hint of Silvestri.

I did forget to mention one of my faves from him, “First Class”.

MrZimmerFan2019-05-07 11:15:21
Jumanji and The Predator, at least for me, are from his best works.

Even First Class, with The Last Stand, my favs for X-Men

Thoughts? I haven’t heard it yet but I have it downloaded

Knight2019-05-02 21:28:27
According to a friend that listens to EVERYTHING, its a nothingburger.

George2019-05-02 21:59:34
Bummer, I was sorta looking forward to this one. I’ll still give it a listen, but I was hoping this would be another Jackman hit.

T-Mann0362019-05-03 01:39:00
Actually, it's a somethingburger. Most of the tracks have some OK, but very humorous. And one track had me in the feels. Overall, it's an above average soundtrack.
