I'd be surprised if we don't see some Wallfisch scores this year. He has been so prolific lately, would be weird to suddenly go an entire year without a single assignment.CD coming from LLL!Really liked this score, and the movie wasn't as bad as people claim as well... Benjamin Wallfisch does some very nice stuff, his horror scores are always on point like It 1 & 2, Annabelle: Creation, A Cure for Wellness...

I know he's gonna deliver it with Mortal Kombat even if the movie isn't that good. But kind of a bummer that his next scheduled project comes out in 2021 LOL'Cause maybe the expected all the cues from the sessionsI like this music!
The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.
A nod to the last but brought it up to date.
This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s musici can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-

@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?

Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......

Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day.

But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score).

At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....Some of the action bits, yeah......This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
....................

It's bigger than that.....

After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe.

Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?

Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close.

Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger.

But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.

I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes.
Some cues sound like Speed 2Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lolThis right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...Everyone keep mentionning mw2 but those drums reminded me of...skylanders giants lol! Just listen to the track « Arena battle » and let me knowThe clips are on his Facebook page.
2/5 stars? Why are people hating on this?Me tooExcited!!!God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. This score shows how important a composer is who knows how to work with a certain genre. Jablonsky knows how to compose a memorable heroic theme and manipulate it to fit an emotion, and write decent choir and even impressive brass at times. Despite relying on ostinatos and rhythm, he still does his best to make a track feel full and dynamic.

Djawadi's Gears 4 style meanwhile, involves writing a bunch of ostinato loops and motifs, and people hail it as "thematically impressive" despite none of it sounding particularly memorable, or even relevant. He mostly just sticks with bare-sounding percussion and string ostinatos, with the occasional low brass punch, leaving the action and the "themes" feeling empty and cliched.

Though to give credit, at least in this game he's attempting to create actual themes as opposed to motifs, and they generally have a fuller sound. However his action music is still completely empty and dull feeling, with the same problems as his gears 4 sound (except slightly more low horns and electronics).

Gears scores haven't really been interesting since Gears 2... I never revisited Gears 3 & Judgement was terrible...

Ramin's best game is Medal of Honor. I have yet to listen to Gears 5...

I think Lorne has the right sound for Gears

have you listened to the track "The Storm" from GoW4? Probably my most favorite from GoW 4 and 5

What? Tracks such as Kaits theme and Bittersweet victory alone brings a lot of depth to Gears 5.True,Gears of War 4 Soundtack had its issues, but with Gears 5 Djawadi has redeemed for his previous outing's weakness.

Gears of War 4 was a big dissappointing score (honestly, i still prefer Gears 2 and 3), but this one is a little better, a improvement from the last score.

That's dosen't mean the score is terrific. It's entertaining, but still far from Gears 2 and 3

Mr.Unbreakable2019-09-08 22:20:56
Both Gears 4 and 5 are complete disappointments, knowing what Ramin is capable of, a real pity.

I actually really liked it. Just listened to it on the train home from work. Really enjoyed Kait's theme and the action cues, as well as the dark tinge to the tracks.

Is it his best? Not at all. And the album has the misfortune of being released not too long after Ramin's phenomenal GoT score which doesn't help things. But as far as a regular score goes, I've heard a LOT worse.

Great soundtrack. Really fits the game well. Just finished the game.

One of the most bombastic and epic shooter campaigns I played in the last decade.

Really great Soundtack, where Gears of war 4 focused on action cues, this Gears 5 soundtrack focuses on emotional pieces as well.
