Sadly this one failed to impress in any way for me. I felt like falling asleep for much of this album. Overall too simplistic, ugly, and cliched with very difficult to pin down thematic material, as the melodies are so minimalist. To whom it may concern...

Is it possible to download or in any other way purchase the Hannibal (Expanded) score somewhere? I have the original motion picture soundtrack, but would LOVE to have them both..

Best regards

Nicholas10 and 16 are missing from the store pack. Most probablyI am not a hybrid, i will try to give my opinion. I think, music in 5 season will come out when and 6 season. But I really want to be wrong!!! :)
It's very sad...(((The 'Allentown Brothers' track is pretty damn awesome (find it on YouTube). It's like a mix between gothic Elfman, Desperate Housewives and Transformers. I love it.

It's one of those scores that people don't talk about much but it's actually pretty cool.

An awesome venue would be the Opera House in Odessa.Want this so bad!!!Does anyone have a breakdown of this with the official score album?
Hats off to Batu Sener for working on many of the score's best cues though! It all comes to personal preference I think. Personally I’ve moved on from collecting cd’s (or anything really) and would rather have everything digital simply to utilize space.

That being said, I completely understand the appeals of having physical media, it would be sad to see that go away for the people who really love it.It's not only to appreciate the work, its to have something "real" in your hands, for your music collection. I don't like only to have a digital music archive. Of course, i rip all the cds i own to WAV and MP3. But i want to have them in my physical music collection. These day, sure. But we usually get news of the next one by the time he's finished wrapping up the current one.Powell only does 1 score a year.
Still no news on his next score? Is he taking a break or something? Working on more concert stuff? Was pleasantly surprised by this one when I first heard it. Outside of the ‘modern scoring’ portions you get some fun noir music for the squad, solid action writing, and even some good emotional cues.

Also gotta love the rhythmic idea from Antz popping up here...Also, the use of the guitars by Jablonsky, are still the best since the 90sI give a spin (almost 4 years after my last listening), it grown on me (still don't consider of the best of Jab), but much better than Skyscraper (ok score) and Battleship (guilty pleasure, but not a good score by any means), i like the style of Jablonsky in this one, his rhythms (but i still don't care about the 'motif' for Cohen or certain sound design tracks like 'You Can't Shoot Me' or 'You Know the Drill')

But still has such cool action moments (Hot Potato With a Grenade) and emotional/romantic moments, and still enjoyed that from this.<3 Buck Takes the Lead

Random thought but this got me thinking about Zanelli's history with fantasy.

Whatever happened to his score for Delgo? I know it's been accused of being super derivative of his other works anyways but still, it's weird to see a RCP score just drop off the face of the Earth like that.

Finally had a chance to listen to this. It's a good score, and I have to say Zanelli did a REALLY good job painting with JNH's colors, so to speak. There is surprisingly not that much direct quotation of Maleficent's themes but the stylistic imitation of that score and of JNH's style is on point. The choral and woodwind writing is especially lovely (it's rare to hear this many woodwinds in an RCP score) and the whole thing feels very organic.

However, I also found it strangely forgettable. Lots of well-executed underscore cues but no lasting highlights really, and Zanelli's new themes don't exactly stick in my mind. The action cues kind of stop and start rather than establishing a consistent flow the way I like. So I'm not sure how much I will be revisiting this one in the future.

Just saw Maleficent 2. There is a lot more Newton Howard in the movoe than there is on album.
I actually can't really understand why they didn't include the reprise of The Christening (the dinner scene) & the finale in the movie.

Zanelli's score is wonderful and I love it very much. But would have loved this on album

After listening to the whole thing, I can say that, while not as great as Newton Howard, Zanelli did a great job in here, adapting the original themes as well as creating some new ones.

The first half of the album drags a bit, but the second half is really fantastic!

Mephariel2019-10-19 08:06:25
I only listened to the first couple of cues so it is too early to form an opinion comparing it to JNH but I disagree the first half drags. Maybe because I love tender themes.

MrZimmerFan2019-10-19 14:08:39
Great work of Zanelli, if is not as good like JNH's Maleficent, is a tremendous work, with a terrific writing and orchestrations, even the most tender parts are terrific.

mpolonest123 2019-10-19 16:54:26
Zanelli is no James Newton Howard, but he did a fantastic job with writing a large scale fantasy score. I’ll even say that, while I think the first Maleficent is stronger overall, I personally like the action writing better here. Also 2 little things I’ve noticed;

1. The new theme here sounds fairly similar to the Father/Son tune from KFP3
2. 2:20-3:30 sounds like it may have been temped from the finale of Fantastic Beasts. (Or maybe I’m just crazy lol)

21. Hello, Beastie! (3:42)

Geoff Zanelli will be haunted by the specter of the PotC franchise until the day he dies, lol

Yeah lol one way or another... :P

I'm cautiously excited for this. Disappointed JNH didn't return but I trust Zanelli to do a good job here.

MrZimmerFan2019-10-10 11:29:45
I agree with you, Edmund, specially as a fan of JNH score

Andreas2019-10-17 16:19:21
Saw the film yesterday, the score relies heavy on JNH's themes and are used a lot throughout the film. Great choral work and a few standout action moments from Zanelli. For me this one felt similar as his approach to Dead Men Tell No Tales in case of using established themes.

mpolonest123 2019-10-17 16:22:55
@Andreas
JNH did such a great job with the first score, I honestly didn’t expect them to return to the same themes. Super happy to hear this!

MrZimmerFan2019-10-17 16:36:20
From what i hearing from the samples, it seems Zanelli make a great score.

JBSO992019-10-17 16:47:06
Just listened to the first track, "Mistress of Evil", and Zanelli kept some of the themes from James Newton Howard!

I'm so happy about this and if the rest score is like this, it could be one of the scores of the year.

Really excited about the full thing!

mpolonest123 2019-10-18 14:39:05
Really fantastic writing here, definitely taking inspiration from JNH’s style without trying to copy. And the adaptation of Maleficent’s “curse” theme from the first score in “The Phoenix” is definitely a highlight.
