Not only is the album fun as a concept album, it's a surprisingly good score to picture. The themes are really clear for each of the characters and the music really fits the action. Even though the action is kind of corny. Real underrated gem. <br><br>I finally watched the film and even though it's a sort of 5 or 6 out of 10 average/okay movie, it reminded me just how much personality gets injected when Hans Zimmer does the score. He really has a strong voice.Yeah this is a pretty fair assessment.<br><br>While I’ve found myself liking it less and less now that we’re hearing things like ME or Alita from Tom there are still some excellent tracks throughout. <br>(The Dark Tower, Collateral Damage, Guardian, It Will Fall, Roland of Eld)<br><br>My biggest gripe is with the purely sound design cues. They honestly go nowhere and end up padding the album out. What this score needed was a solid villain motif and some more orchestral underscore. It’s like one-half of the score is the more traditional side of Holkenborg whereas the rest falls into his early habit of just making noise.I give it a listen after three years, and i still like it.<br><br>If isn't as good as Mortal Engines or Alita, have a interesting aspects to enjoy: his main theme for Roland, some of the action cues are strong, even the dramatic ones (The Creed or Collateral Damage), some of the sound design are interesting.<br><br>Maybe the weakest aspect of the album, is the middle, some tracks are not that interesting to listen.woooooow <3From the "No Time to Die" podcast description...<br><br>"You can also be the first to hear exclusive score from Hans Zimmer and brand new recordings from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from Bond 25 brought to you from Decca Records."<br><br>First of six episodes is released on Wednesday 30th September!!
that would be great@GR7 that sounds really cool care to share?Hi! What's the story with track "Into Space"? They really copy track "Planet Descent" and name it that "Into Space"?I agree guys. Yhis album and parts of the experiments are vey enjoyable. I tend to listen to OST prriodically, and each year there is one or severall scores that replace what I listen the most, and so on... but Dark phoenix is one I can listen every time. <br>I made personal suites assembling music from the OST and mixing it with expremients, and it results in a 50 min suites album, I really like it.Same for me. I'm so happy ! :D
A Celebration? It's actually on youtube now.Got it. I assumed as much for the first 3. Thanks.hahahaha ... crack, sorry. Well so far there is no news of anything. Only the video that one track and one with Dave, but it's a preview.<br>I'm not sure how to get news on this, I really would like to get it hahaha.Isabel Suite = Isabel the Strong<br>Thadeous Suite = Thadeous<br>The Quest Suite = Let Us Quest!<br><br>End credits is probably ripped from the film.> Fair enough, but I know for a fact that Steve was inspired by Harry Potter because of the complete score track "Tavern Fighting (Part 1)". The end of that track has a direct reference to The Chamber of Secrets theme from the second film.<br><br>Nice catch. Those are very similar.<br><br>Btw, I have some "expanded" version of the score, which seems to be identical to the complete score on this site, aside from the fact that it's missing the last 4 tracks. Do those have equivalents in the regular release?
Yes, I was referring to A Celebration. "It's out there" as in "it can be obtained unofficially". Were you referring to the Sia track? That is on Bleeding Fingers', but you can find it on the bleeding fingers page.<br>it also doesn't look like planet eart: a celebration has a release :(Well, it's out there. Looks like no official release?> He's just posted in his Instagram story that in 9 days he has more interesting stuff coming.<br><br>Today's status says it's his "first published film score". That sounds like awesome news. I really hope this starts a trend...<br><br>I imagine having your own label-thing helps for stuff like expanded releases and sheet music?can you produce track for me?

After watching the movie and listening to the score, I feel that the music has a lot of potential but it's wasted in a lot of moments.

I really like the new main theme (the melody from the Loyal Brave True song), and I think Harry did a great jobadapting the melody into lots of different arrangements. I really like the softer ones like at the beginning of Ancestors or the one in Lesson of the Phoenix. And I think he did great adapting the some of original songs into the score to great effect, specially with the Reflection theme at the beginning of Mulan Rides Into Battle or in Four Ounces...

But I think that, apart from the softer renditions of the new main theme, and the arranging of the classic songs, the score does not really maintain your interest, with no secondary thematic material that stands out on first listen, with no noticeable nods to Goldsmith score (not even his marvelous main theme), and the action tracks usually fall into generic territory.

Overall, is a nice score for some parts, but feels like it could have been much more with more secondary themes and with some nods to Goldsmith's score.

Just some random thoughts

Just finished to listen to the CD. I really enjoy the score !

MrZimmerFan2020-09-02 22:12:43
Is CD release?

I'm surprised

Iamtommie442020-09-02 22:17:22
How did you listen to something that is not released for 2 more days

Knight2020-09-02 22:28:51
The CD was available on Amazon for awhile

MrZimmerFan2020-09-02 23:26:44
But for 4th September.

Anonymous2020-09-03 06:28:50
With the ever-increasing popularity of digital distributions and streaming services, I never thought we'd go back to the days when someone could muse and blabber about obtaining advanced copies.

But then, I never thought Vinyl would make a return either, and here we are.

Forecasting is definitely not my forte.

Jordan2020-09-03 07:47:41
Yes, the CD is planned to be released on September the 4th, but was already available at the CD store I went yesterday.

I'm very happy to have it released on CD, regarding the situation of the movie...

Sounds fantastic!

MrZimmerFan2020-09-03 15:14:07
Even there is a nod to the original Jerry Goldsmith's score!

Brent2020-09-04 06:52:49
I’m really enjoying this! There are definitely parts (especially certain sounds) that are lifted directly from Prince of Persia, but the score overall is great. :)

mpolonest123 2020-09-04 14:50:27
Ok this is bothering me but does anyone else hear Queen Atlanna’s theme from Aquaman in the main tune here?

Macejko2020-09-04 15:13:55
Brent: That's... discouraging. PoP was overall pretty meh. Also the fact that HGW's first fantasy adventure score in 10 years sounds like the one he made a decade ago doesn't bode well. Oh well. Will listen today.

Brent2020-09-04 19:36:14
Macejko: I wouldn’t let that deter you. Although the PoP moments take you out of the experience a bit, the score is really quite lovely. Also, the “Prince of Persia” and “Raid On Alamut” cues are some of HGW’s best. :)

Macejko2020-09-04 19:47:17
It's funny you mentioned "Raid on Alamut", because that's just about the only cue I revisit from time to time. Btw., I listened to a couple of cues already, it IS indeed good. "The Desert Garrison" is balls-to-the-wall.

MrZimmerFan2020-09-04 20:53:19
Aside for the sounds of PoP (not a problem, HGW uses the same sounds in every action movie), Mulan is a solid effort by him, great dramatic/ethnic stuff and homage to the original Jerry Goldsmith score (if you listen closely), and cool action moments, if the score isn't as good as Kingdom of Heaven or Sinbad, is truly recommend.

Mephariel2020-09-05 19:35:51
Quite disappointed with this score. Everything felt low energy and generic. The best parts are reusing the instrumental versions of the songs.

100 % the Paycheck thing... lol

Anonymous2020-09-07 06:42:26
I see people are talking about several references from the composer's other works in this one - even a theme from John Powell's score for Paycheck.

Do you think this movie was temped with those?

JR reply Replies: 1 || 2020-09-04 00:19:17
Paycheck, John Powell (But on a good Asian Tone way) &#128522;

jjstarA1132020-09-04 15:49:54
I was also thinking of Paycheck!

According to the end credits of the movie, Halli Cauthery arranged Honor to Us All.

New clip with Harry Gregson-Williams' music, and sounds awesome, at least this 55 seconds.

Hi there,

I was wondering, why can we not listen to samples yet? I would want to buy the album, but I want to know if it's any good so I would love to listen to samples first. Does anybody know where I can do that?

Because the score gets released at the same day as the movie, perhaps?

Can someone please elaborate on Richard Harvey's role as a "Musical Director" for this particular project? I haven't seen this type of credit for a score album before - particularly not for a someone other than the lead composer. I mean, isn't it part of the job description for the lead composer to lay out the direction of the music?

Miralsice2020-08-17 23:20:47
Maybe he helps Harry with traditional aspects of the score? As far as I know Harvey write some works wich includes chinese musical instruments and traditions.

Also he and John Williams (guitarist, not composer) had done a World Tours concerts where they'd played different music with a lot different traditions including Chinese and African. So it could be that Harry asked Harvey for help with traditional chinese music in "Mulan" and Richard used his knowledge in it to find requied musical pieces wich was later ( with the endorsement of Harry and dirrector of the movie) included in movie's score.

Hybrid Soldier2020-08-17 23:54:10

Richard is the Asian instruments guru. I'd describe that a super music producer though, sort of organizing things, giving advice, playing instruments and even doing some orchestrations/arranging/writing.

Richard was around on The Forbidden Kingdom too. And remember that a very long time ago, HGW & RGW were Richard assistants ! :)

One of my most anticipated scores this year. Hope it can come close to Jerry Goldsmith's masterpiece.

MrZimmerFan2020-08-16 20:22:10
I will not expect such a thing, but i expect a good score by HGW. :D

I'm soo excited for this!!! Hope the song meldoes are in here. If 'Training The Men' contains an orchestral arrangement of I'll Make A Man Out Of You I will be soo happy!! That will be amazing!!© 2001-2018 OST
