Really liked this score, and the movie wasn't as bad as people claim as well... Benjamin Wallfisch does some very nice stuff, his horror scores are always on point like It 1 & 2, Annabelle: Creation, A Cure for Wellness...

I know he's gonna deliver it with Mortal Kombat even if the movie isn't that good. But kind of a bummer that his next scheduled project comes out in 2021 LOL'Cause maybe the expected all the cues from the sessionsI like this music!The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.
A nod to the last but brought it up to date.
This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s musici can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-

@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!
Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?

Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......

Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day.

But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score).

At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....Some of the action bits, yeah......This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
....................

It's bigger than that.....

After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe.

Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?

Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close.

Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger.

But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.

I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes.Some cues sound like Speed 2Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lol

Just listen to the track « Arena battle » and let me knowThe clips are on his Facebook page.2/5 stars? Why are people hating on this?Me too
Excited!!!God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)"It's good shit lieutenant" The principle is based on Thomas Newman's Bond. "Take back what's ours" and "the truth" is Ad astrahonnestly, I do get why people refer to MW2, but to be honest, it's not the same. With the amount of time I heard that score, I can say that it uses the same drums, and a pattern that is quite similar to the one used in MW2, but it is not a copy/paste. It's no different to me than Junkie XL re-using the same pattern of drum in all of his recent scores since Mad Max. When it comes from the same composer, I guess it's normal to have works that parts that similar from a score to another. Just think of John Murphy who re-use his powerful theme from Sunshine in a lot of his scores (28 weeks later, kick-ass, etc).

Actually I'm quite glad he re-used the themes from Mancina as that was, to me at least, a big miss for BB2 even though Rabin and Jablonsky did a great job. It's like doing a James Bond movie without the Bond theme. It might be good, but it miss the little something that gel everything together. ;) I really like what Lorne did on this one. Even though he re-used the theme, he made them his own, in a similar way he did with MI Fallout, while sometime paying homage to the original ones. ;) My 2 cents.

I have a number of scores/promos/bootlegs, but NOTHING can ever top Battle of Pride Rock!!!!

seizetsu reply Replies: 0 || 2006-03-26 00:00:00
YES!! I found it and am downloading/listening right now. This is even so much better than I remember it to be from the movie. Best score EVER!

What do you mean "--unfair"--? It's not like anyone here has ever refused to help you find the score, so calling people unfair seems a little exaggerated to me.

Apart from that, this score is a bootleg and hence illegal, so people are naturally wary of to whom they give assistance.

Adi reply Replies: 0 || 2006-03-21 00:00:00
Ok, so i cannot blame the recordingartist/company etc... but for all you folks who have the score, this is really unfair of you. Can someone be an angel and tell me where i can find the score?

I recently edited the mp3s in Goldwave to make the mono's sound more stereo. Sounds supercool now!!

Nice to see some people here. Actually I must thank the crew from Hans-Zimmer.com for the information about the OST. Because of that a japanese fan were impressed that I really found this. Well, as reward he bought me the Soundtrack to an Anime named "--The Dog of Flanders"-- (not the american RL-Movie, the japanese Animation), actually it's a Movie released in America by Pioneer and is one of the strongest Soundtracks I ever heared.

Best music ever for a Disney film. One of Hans' finest works. Simply amazing!

In fact "--To Die For"-- plays only during the Zazu Sings scene. Uncle Scar was talking about the reprise of the music which pays in the "--Elephant Graveyard"-- track. Listen carefully.

Caephalo Trecca reply Replies: 0 || 2006-01-24 00:00:00
Nice one Uncle Scar but here are a few more facts.
A part of "--Hyenas"-- plays when Scar fiddles with the mouse in the beginning, "--To Die For"-- can also be heard in the scene where Zazu sings (Scar's cave), and "--A New Era/Bowling For Buzzards"-- does sound similar but is NOT from the scene where Scar slaps Sarabi. It is from the scene where Scar announces the death of Mufasa to the pride. The slapping music is heard in "--The Return"-- itself.

And yes, Alternates 3 and 4 are the official CD "--This Land"-- and "--Under The Stars"-- tracks. Cheers! :-)

There's been less people clamoring for the links of the expanded score.

Looks like the link has spread. :D

Uncle Scar reply Replies: 0 || 2006-01-22 00:00:00
Oh, sorry. I must've been tired. XD

This is how I've named it:

1. Circle of Life (obviously, the Disney CoL)
2. Life Isn't Fair, Is it? (the sound that plays after Scar leaves Simba in the gorge. You know... the music that plays while camera pans from the gorge to the herd)
3. The Once and Future King (from the rain to the part where Mufasa teaches Simba on the morning in the Pride Rock)
4. Plotting (Scar plants his evil plan on Simba, Simba tells Nala about the graveyard)
5. The Elephant Graveyard (the elephant graveyard, includes the actual chase)
6. King of the Past (Mufasa scolds Simba, then the dramatic part, my fave, btw)
7. Hyenas (can't remember which part this plays)
8. To Die For (this must be wrong. it's the music just before the hyenas chase Simba and Nala)
9. What Have You Done (the stampede music)
10. Alternate 1 (after the stampede)
11. A New Era / Bowling for Buzzards (scene where Scar slaps Sarabi)
12. Under the Stars (Simba et al talk about the stars)
13. Hunting (Nala hunts Pumbaa)
14. Alternate 2 (It's Disney's CYFtLT!! I feel this one is REALLY wrong)
15. An Argument (Rafiki and Simba talk, including Mufasa's ghost music)
16. This is My Home (Simba returns to Pride Lands, includes busa music)
17. The Return (everything in the climax)
18. Alternate 3 (Mufasa's ghost, then the part where Simba tells Rafiki "--I'm going back!"--)
19. Alternate 4 (again, Rafiki + Simba talk, Simba follows Rafiki through that thick forest to the lake where Mufasa's ghost lies)
20. On Our Side, Simba Awakens (same as the mp3 extract on this website)
21. Stampede (Be Prepared! sooo wrong)

Maybe you can post the right way it should be renamed? I'm confused with your explanation. :S

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

the real Caephalo Trecca reply Replies: 0 || 2006-01-19 00:00:00
There's no track like "--alternate 1"-- it is just the renamed version of "--what have you done..."-- And don't imitate my name! ---)

Caephalo Trecca reply Replies: 0 || 2006-01-16 00:00:00
Thanks a lot!!!

So that means Alternate 1 is really missing?

Caephalo Trecca reply Replies: 0 || 2006-01-15 00:00:00
The real "--What Have You Done"-- is contained in the Alternate 1 track, the real "--Be Prepared"-- in the Stampede track, and the real "--Stampede"-- in the What Have You Done track. Hope that helps you! Happy renaming ---)

Uncle Scar reply Replies: 0 || 2006-01-14 00:00:00
Kirsten,

Wow, thanks. What does "--What Have You Done?"-- sound like?

*renames the songs*

Uncle Scar -
Just found it myself, and the one they link to as "--What Have You Done?"-- seems to actually be "--Stampede."-- So I think we're actually missing "--What Have You Done?"-- (based on the descriptions above)

Kate,

Found the site with the hefty loads of TLK soundtracks, have you? I'm really wondering about their link on track 9 (stampede) because they've linked it to Be Prepared!
But I wanted it anyways. :)

Listening to the soundtrack right now. One more song and I've gotten it complete. One link there is broken. :(

Uncle Scar reply Replies: 0 || 2006-01-12 00:00:00
No, wait, when I checked Stampede, it worked. Weird. :/

And that wrongfully linked song to Be Prepared was track 8.

*listens to expanded score*
