Yep, fun (if slight) score to a very fun movie. "Get it On" is a great action cue.It was also one of the first HG-W's scores I ever listened to (way back when!), so maybe it's just nostalgia talking. <br>But it's worth a listen at least.It's a shame no one talks about this score. <br><br>It's a great listen if you love heavily percussive music! <br><br>Not a highlight in HG-W's carreer by any means, but it's a fun ride, and has some neat unique sounding stuff courtesy of Heitor Pereira, as well as plenty of goold ol' MV style synth/orchestra pounding!He returns to the hitman's bodyguard part 2I was honored, back in 2006, to meet both Nick Glennie-Smith and Harry Gregson-Williams.<br><br>I talked with both about The Rock, and here's what they told.<br><br>Nick & Hans worked very closely on most of their cues. That's why it's so hard to notice any difference between their own styles (and why they share most of the credits).<br>Harry worked separately from Nick & Hans. He remembered working on the San Francisco Chase (though we know Don Harper helped at some point in the process), and on "a lot of the action material from the second half of the movie, once the heroes reach Alcatraz".<br>The credits here tend to prove they were right.<br><br>All the Opening Titles / SEAL Attack is a bit complicated. Hans might have written the theme, but it also might be arranged for pictures by Nick Glennie-Smith (plus there's a lot more going on in these tracks than the man theme alone). So, well, I guess the final result still is a collaborative effort.
A brilliant score, no matter what some people might say. Some of the darkest and most beautiful themes by Hans Zimmer were born here, as well as a lot of very exciting and propulsive electronic techniques. <br>Heck, I even like the movie! The score fits like a glove.<br>It helps that I'm a huge Tony Scott fan though.<br><br>Zimmer would even 'steal' from this score quite a bit in some of his later films. The 'Wayne Manor Suite' from TDKR comes to mind, as well as one of the Blade Runner 2049 themes being strangely similar to The Fan's 'Opening Titles' theme, and I'm sure there are other examples.<br><br>I would love for a complete version to be officially released sometime. It's very unlikely, but one can dream...Listen to the first demo at NGS demos album of "The Rock". The opening and SEAL Attack have a few notes from original NGS theme. That's why NGS is credited to it.I remember hearing something about NGS not wanting his name in the opening credits since it was a Hans cue playing. So yeah. I think the opening is really just Zimmer and the NGS credit is a formality since it was supposed to be Nick’s score.I'm sorry, disregard EVERYTHING I just wrote...The credit on "SEAL Attack" is HZ/NGS/Stern, not HZ/HGW/Stern. Not sure how I missed that. *facepalm*OK, so a thought...<br><br>"Opening" and "SEAL Attack" are functionally identical; Hybrid says that Hans originally wrote it for the latter scene and it was then placed over the main titles of the film. However, the former is credited to Hans and NGS, the latter to Hans, HGW and Steven Stern. Presumably, since HGW/Stern aren't credited on "Opening", their contribution to "SEAL Attack" is limited to that first minute, which does indeed have a lot of HGW-ish percussion work to my ears. That leaves the rest of "SEAL Attack" as Hans' work alone, which begs the question: why the heck is NGS credited for "Opening", then, since it's basically identical? Screw it, I'm labeling that a solo Hans cue. Always bugged me that there wasn't at least one on this score. :p

I agree. Great score. This is "Hans Zimmer Dark Minimalism" done absolutely right. And the Oscorp stuff has to be temp. It goes up and down in just the right places.Forgot Macrotus, so the numbering messed up on 5-8 lol... Macrotus = Father to the Rescue + Hide in the Dark + Courthouse Pt. 1... Also, Myotis actually = Initiation into the League + Temple Fight. <br><br>If you have the End Credits too, that's a Batman Arrives/Backup mashup + Training + Father to the Rescue + Bruce Left for Dead + Batman Theme.<br>Gotcha covered. <br><br>1. Vespertilio = Batman Titles + The Long Walk<br>2. Eptesicus = Bruce Goes Home + Training <br>3. Myotis = Temple Fight<br>4. Barbastella = Mugging Pt. 2 + Bat Cave <br>6. Artibeus = Dockyard Ambush Pt. 1 + Meeting Ducard<br>7. Tadarida = Rachel in the Bat Cave + Fight in Crane's Lab Pt. 1 + Batman on Fire + Microwave Stolen<br>8. Antrozus = Facing the League + Gordon at Home <br>9. Nycteris = Prototypes + Why Bats? + Finders Keepers Pt. 1<br>10. Molossus = Batmobile Chase<br>11. Corynorhinus = Surveying the Ruins + Gordon Says Thanks <br>12. Lasiurus = Ra's al Ghul theme suite<br>Any chance you could do a what makes up the tracks for the BB album Hybrid?Just want to give this score (and film) some major props. It seems like Ron Howard is one of those great directors who brings the best out of the composers he works with. It’s also interesting hearing just how much Lorne Balfe’s voice really comes through here.<br><br>Also, I wonder if it’s a coincidence just how much the OSCORP tune from TASM2 sounds like “Watergate Montage” (or did Marc Webb like a temp lol)

Well, I finally had the time to actually send the petition to Buena Vista. Just did a couple of days ago. Sorry that I took so long to do that part of the process. And I very warmly thank all who are doing everything in their part to help with this grave injustice. A special thanks to Demon Star & mgbube for sticking with us all this time. You two seem to truly care for The Lion King Score.

Okay, just leaving a message since I haven't said anything in a while. Love you guys :)

Ok, so I've posted the petition link in every film music, Disney and Lion King related site I've come across and also looked a lot up on Google and registered to post the sig link (and am active so it doesn't get taken for spam ;-) I have also talked to quite a lot of people regarding this, and while posting the link to one Disney site, I also came across Randy Thornton from Disney Records (he didn't tell me who he was, but from his profile I recognised him because apparently he was the one who had rejected the Theme Park music petition earlier... I wish it good luck too) and when I told him about my goal, his tone was not discouraging - he said that he understood my aim and that he hoped I will succeed! Not bad, eh? :-)

Since judging by most people's opinions it is very tough to get Disney Records themselves to release it, do you guys think we can contact Intrada, FSM and the like and request them to release the score instead of asking Disney directly? If Disney doesn't let them release it, then we can use the petition to encourage them to license out the rights. I am trying to gather contact info about these labels so we can contact them when it is appropriate. Tell me what you think! In case anyone wants to contact me you can do so at - sicronis@yahoo.co.in . Thanks!

DemonStar reply Replies: 0 || 2008-07-11 00:00:00
Don't worry mgbube dear, as long as there's life in at least the body of this guy who's typing this message, the efforts will not stop!

DemonStar reply Replies: 0 || 2008-06-21 00:00:00
Even if it's tough to have Disney themselves do a score release, Intrada's Baby release has proved that it is not impossible to convince Disney Records to sell the rights to some other label like Intrada, FSM or LaLaLand. So if this petition gets a respectable amount of sigs (even if it takes some time) we can consider contacting some of these labels for help. Never lose hope!

All I know is that it is determination and perseverance that make a task possible, as long as it is in theory. And I don't think getting a release for Lion King score is impossible. You can call it "difficult" or "tough" but not "impossible". It takes will power to get a thing done. It will take time, but as long as you persevere and keep up your determination, you can do it.

Back in 1940, what do you think guys would say if you told them it was possible for man to go on the moon? Charles Babbage was called a lunatic for trying to build the Analytical Engine. Gregor Mendel was laughed at for his theory of variations in garden pea. Years later, today they're called The Father of Computers and Genetics respectively. It's not an idle vision to dream high, it's in your determination to do something. I know, I've experienced it. Time will help you bear fruit of your work. If you truly love this score, don't be discouraged and keep going!

Well that's why I was considering contacting Intrada or something. Naturally you cannot get people pay up and creating a pre-order form is not that easy, but I guess the first step is to get as many sigs as possible for this petition, at least for the time being, to let them know about the demand for the score. The next step could be the pre-order form or whatever. It will take perseverance, and giving up hope is not the way to go. Tough, but not difficult. I hope I'm not giving up my precious time (yes, precious! I'm in the middle of exams dudes) for nothing!

hello sylvos my friend and welcome to hans-zimmer.com i think you have a very interesting view on matter of petition will you elaborate on so called pre order form as is to be submitted to disney corporate monster in order to make them release brilliant score as is the lion king thanks mgbube oh and one more word to demonstar yes it is the truth i have told many of my friends few of which are lion king fans themselves and i personally stuck around till they signed the petition in my presence so that is my contribution so far and to all doubters who cant imagine humble person like me writing programme of utmost intricacy shall soon teach you otherwise when hour is near thanks mgbube

Shawn Chandler-Pa reply Replies: 0 || 2008-05-24 00:00:00
Well, mgbube, if you have not yet used your program then I thank you. That puts me at ease a little. So, thank you again.

Sylvos reply Replies: 0 || 2008-05-23 00:00:00
With all due respect dudes, this petition biz is useless for a Disney title. Everyone can sign this petition but no one can be chased afterwards to check whether they bought it or not. You all know better than me that it's the money that matters the most, and a petition cannot gurantee that. If anyone wishes for this thing to be considered by Disney, then it has to be created like a pre-order form where everyone who signs would then have to legally purchsae the CD (should it ever release).

DemonStar reply Replies: 0 || 2008-05-23 00:00:00
If you've really told people to sign the petition and helped it get genuine signatures, then I thank you, mgbube. That's the only, and ONLY way to help the petition be successful.

Rae D reply Replies: 0 || 2008-05-23 00:00:00

Pardons also for not having found this a bit sooner.

this is mgbube i have never i repeat never threatened anyone if you feel offended then dont expect me to apologise oh and one more word to my special friend klaas why do you speak about me as though i am not here pal what are you a coward talk to my face i do not appreciate you let me summarize if anybody feels offended by me then i ask everybody to consider their own behaviour before complaining about me i was willing to work together with all of you until klaas came along with his uneeded remarks he simply couldnt leave it alone and i expect an apology from him as far as the petition is concerned i would never do anything to endanger its credibility and as you may have noticed no "fake signatures" as you like to say have been applied yet so whats all this fuss i have told more than 50 people about the petition and have been ill treated for this no thanks nothing and still you are most unfriendly and hateful to me and yet i offer you to put our differences behind us and join our efforts thanks mgbube

No offense Mgbube, but, are you here because you're bored ? It sounds like you enjoy spending time here, threatening everybody about the petition being unuseful, ignoring the original intent of the creator of the petition. What's the deal about all this? Really? Having a good laugh ? You're talking about brute force, but don't you think your program would be brute force itself ?
I will ignore any "program threat" from our deer friend mgbube, and I invite everybody here to do the same. The program doesn't exist. Bube, if you want to discuss, please, talk about something else, and avoid threats.

Klaas reply Replies: 0 || 2008-05-22 00:00:00
In my humble opinion there simply is no program, it would suprise me anyway. And this guy is indeed someone who cannot be reasoned with, but I don't think he is capable of doing such things.

DemonStar reply Replies: 0 || 2008-05-22 00:00:00
If you think that by creating fake signatures you can fool Disney, think otherwise. I'm 100% sure they're coming here to read your witty comments and, as I've told you a million times already, might take this petition as a fake. It does not ask to be a genius to understand the truth in this statement. And in what way have we used "brute force" on you? You call making you understand what we're talking about brute force? Do you know what kind of response you'll get in boards if you post stuff like this?

I give up; I can now see that you cannot be reasoned with, because you're seemingly determined not to take in what we want to say. If you really cared for the score then you wouldn't be talking like this. All I request you is that please don't ruin the petition with your fake signature program. We've worked hard on this, I've given up much of my precious study time in the middle of exams to get genuine signatures for the petition. Please don't ruin our efforts; to many of the people who signed, me included, this music means as much as the life air in our lungs. Sayonara

this is mgbube i must point out to you dear webmaster that i am not spamming and i do like hans zimmer score here is my review of it the lion king score was released in 1994 by disney but it was incomplete until some time later a so called bootleg was found on the internet and spread quickly among zimmer fans now people make effort to have full score released by disney but petition is not taking off at all so mgbube proposed several surefire methods to get score in its entirety but was blatantly rejected by people who think they know it all now he belittles them cos they will never get a full release if they dont change their conduct brute force is never the way to go remember that mgbube
