Just saw Maleficent 2. There is a lot more Newton Howard in the movoe than there is on album.<br>I actually can't really understand why they didn't include the reprise of The Christening (the dinner scene) & the finale in the movie.<br><br>Zanelli's score is wonderful and I love it very much. But would have loved this on albumI can't imagine how someone likes Balfe's part over Richters. As you said Thomas, Richters work sounds more like suites, and Balfes work is written more to picture. BUT, it sounds to me also like a typical RCP-work with Hans. While Hans gives the direction with his suites and melodies, Balfe and co are adapting those suites to the specific scenes and writing some "new" stuff to fill any gap if there is any need of it, so they become additional composers in the credits.<br><br>And here, we have the same. Richter shows the direction and some cues are real intense and beautiful. Balfes parts sounding like a gap-filler. I don't want to talk bad about Balfe, he's a composing machine, but still i can't find anything remarkable on those parts and so i can't understand how Richters work hasn't been used but instead the more colorless cues from Balfes part :/<br><br>Again, don't feel insulted guys, it's just my sensationBalfe’s part is the best I think.<br>It also seems written to picture instead of just long suites.<br>My understanding is the Balfe wrote half of the score but the album doesn’t seem to represent that for some reason.I really liked Richter’s score over balfesI listened Max Richter for years. He is the kind of select or minority composer who does his solo works and soundtrack for movies not so famous. <br>His solo works are really really good with quintet and piano and voice. "on the nature of daylight" is definitely the best. <br>His sountrack is not good as his solo, to be honest. I think "the Leftovers" (2014-2017, HBO series), "Miss Slaone" (2016) and "Mary Queen of Scots" (2019) are cool.<br>If you need some peaceful music for meditation or good sleep, listen to his work.
Richter did his recording in january and june 2019. The Director himself is a fan of Richter, so the deadline and director are not the reason.<br>It seemed that producers were not satisfied with Richter's music and they wanted something new, that's why they got Lorne. It turned out Lorne brought a very limited new...@Cercei<br>Hybrid can definitely answer that best. Richter’s score is used (alongside Balfe’s material) as well as some source pieces. If I remember correctly it’s a mish-mash of the two.I do know that piece, it’s very pretty. I’ll check out his other works, thanks for the recommendation. In terms of minimalism I really am into Brian Eno at the moment. His “Music For Airports” and “The Lovely Bones” are excellent if you like more introspective music.btw, you're saying Lorne recomposed and reworked the entire score. as i haven't seen the movie yet, did the producers end up with not using richters score for it at all and just used the score from Lorne?thanks for your information. but i actually don't understand why they have done that. i've heard now Lornes cues and Richters cues. all those cues from Lorne, they sound very similiar to that what Richter composed, but somehow with less melodies. And you really have to work hard to not use fewer melodies then Richter, as he's a minimalist at its best ^^ with that being said, i can't hear any groundbreaking differences from Lornes part, so what was their idea on hiring it and getting the same style of music, but in a more "light" version? :/
i really admire Max Richters work, he isn't that new in this scene. his style is that repeating minimalism. maybe you've heard once the cue "on the nature of daylight" which was used a lot by many other movies. his last score which knocked me out was "Hostiles". such an emotional and intense score, you need to hear that, and probably see the movie as well (with Christian Bale). <br><br>Really surprised at this album, I’ve never really heard anything from Max Richter but I really like what he ended up writing for this score. It surprisingly flows well for a stand alone listen. It’s funny that the producers wanted a different approach, I think Richter nailed it.<br><br>Balfe’s contribution is excellent as well, I particularly like that repeating chord progression (which is starting to become one of his trademarks considering how many times he has used it). It’s disappointing that they didn’t include more of his contribution though, since he apparently rewrote the entire score.Lorne said in his Twitter, the first album for His Dark Materials come 3rd November, no date, for the moment, for the second album.Was the producersi haven't understood the fact, that Lorne was involved in this. Can someone explain it for me? Was the director not satisfied with Richters music? Was the deadline too near? Or what was the reason why they have brought Lorne to this project?
"The Wanderer", "Event Horizon", "You Have To Let Me Go" and "Tuesday (Voiceless)" = WOW WOW WOW!!!Zanelli is no James Newton Howard, but he did a fantastic job with writing a large scale fantasy score. I’ll even say that, while I think the first Maleficent is stronger overall, I personally like the action writing better here. Also 2 little things I’ve noticed;<br><br>1. The new theme here sounds fairly similar to the Father/Son tune from KFP3<br>2. 2:20-3:30 sounds like it may have been temped from the finale of Fantastic Beasts. (Or maybe I’m just crazy lol)Great work of Zanelli, if is not as good like JNH's Maleficent, is a tremendous work, with a terrific writing and orchestrations, even the most tender parts are terrific.It’s definitely Balfe. I’ve seen the film for the second time two weeks ago so my memory is kind of hazy but luckily I decided to record the end credits for reference and I think it plays in Balfe’s section / variation of one of his themes played on a solo string instrument. <br><br>I think we got most of Richter cues as it was mainly his release. I feel that Lorne has moved on from this project - he didn’t even mention the release so an extended release of his material seems unlikely to happen :( <br><br>For those interested the credits suite plays as follows: <br><br><br>“A Trip To The Moon” (synth part)<br>“I Put All That Away”<br>Variation on the theme in “Underground Lake” at 0:14<br>Variation on the theme in “Trip To Neptune” 0-1:00<br>“To The Stars”Season 2 premieres in 2 weeks, if he was scoring he would be working on it at the moment. But yes no confirmation regarding his return or a new composer. No news regarding new composer might be a hint whether Djawadi is returning or not.

Man, I long forgot about this score (probably because it got overshadowed by Transformers). But, after rediscovering it and revisiting it, I didn’t realize how hauntingly beautiful this is. A true Jablonsky hidden gem.

Side note, any idea what happened to the man? I know he has a Pete Berg movie coming out soon, but not much else than that. Really missing his scores as of late.

He became a father. One kid and another one, soon after the first. He made it clear in interviews that he's focused more on his family. Which makes sense after 5 huge Transformers movies. lol.

As Steve himself said, scoring one Transformers movie is like scoring 2 normal movies. He worked on other projects at the same time, so you can imagine how tough and exhausting it must've been for him and his crew. And for him and his family.

I miss him too, but I totally get why he decided to step back for a while. And it's not like he isn't working. He's got that big comicbook movie too - Bloodshot. And probably other projects we still haven't heard.

The greatest thing that could happen, if Katsuhiro Otomo, who returns after very long 15 years break, reunited with Steve for his new anime «Orbital Era». I don't know the story behind the creation of «Steamboy» and how Steve get that job, but this was one of the best works of Jablosnky and my favorite.

It could be the greatest joy to hear Steve in full-orchestral mod and in anime-project like this.

I know, that all of this is a long shot and almost imposible, but you never know how things could turn.

Man, this is one where I wish there was a complete score release. To be honest, I like this score a lot more than Transformers. Jablonsky's raw talent here is unbelievable, and it feels like his score, rather than an RCP/Zimmer one. First, I love how there's only 4 themes, Love Theme, Imoogi, the classical piece that plays at the beginning of "Village Attack" which I can't remember the name of, and the D-War battle music that slowly develops throughout the score. This allows these themes to be used to their fullest potential, unlike Transformers where each theme is used 5 times at most because there was just too many to develop.

I also love the atmosphere of this score. Some tracks almost feel like they inspired Jeremy Soule for some of his Skyrim travelling music. Mainly "The Legend Awakes", "Yeouijoo", and "Second Life". The nature sounds, the instrument variety, the purity of the strings, it feels like something you could listen to while traveling through the mountains.

The action tracks, are wonderfully fitting for a monster movie score with the brute, overwhelming force of the horns, the complex string/underscore, it feels classical the way Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings is classical. Familiar, yet unique to the composer.

The way the themes develop is perfect, with the love theme developing into the classical death theme as the score closes out in "Farewell", the way the classical death theme develops into the main battle theme in "The Altar", "Buraki", and "D-War". And of course, the way Imoogi breaks down through the film, and rebuilds until the satisfying and beautiful finale of "Arirang".

This score, while being made for one of the most infamously bad monster movies ever, has so much care and love put into it. I've never even seen the full movie, but thanks to the fantastic storytelling in the music alone, I feel like I've already experienced it. Probably better than if I'd seen the movie if it is as bad as people say. Highly underappreciated Jablonsky score, and one of my favorite scores ever.

Sorry to go on for so long, but this score is like Steamboy for me, where once I start, I have to finish it in the same day because I love how perfectly it's crafted for this type of movie.

Funny that many people saw Transformers ripoffs in it while it was written a year before...

The film is hilariously bad, but guess what, they are making a sequel !

Jablonsky should come back, just for the joke ! lol

I enjoyed your impassioned defense of the score. I really ought to give it another listen one of these days, I've got the "Imoogi" cue on a few playlists but otherwise haven't heard it for years. I remember liking it okay though (nowhere near as much as Steamboy, but a solid score nevertheless). I'm especially intrigued by your Skyrim comparisons!

I do really hope Jablonsky comes back for the sequel. I miss this type of music from him, the more detailed and mostly orchestral stuff. Transformers 1, 2, and 5 are a lot of fun, but not as good as this IMO.

And Edmund, yeah Yeouijoo in particular gives me a lot of Skyrim vibes, particularly the really calm and peaceful opening. Also the classical piece I was referencing was Dies Irae. It's usually used in movie scores to convey approaching death.

I have to admit that missed this soundtrack somehow. Recently opened it as good old vine. Very good soundtrack. It's very close to Transformers, but different. Amazing that number of people asked me whether it was unreleased music from TFs. Thanks to Steve and his team.

It's a nice soundtrack, although i agree it's not going to be like Transformers (1 and 2) that plays non almost every day at my place. Imoogi and Arirang are the best. Arirang reminds me of "Arrival to Earth", i wonder why?! LOL (In case you didn't notice, i was being sarcastic there). As for the film, it's not great but i kind of liked it. (Prepares to be stoned). All in all, a nice effort by Jablonsky.

Steve Jablonsky is great in creating an emotional music as given in D-War, Transformer etc. I m great fan of STEVE JABLONSKY. Transformers comes very close...however D-War takes my nomination as best Jablonsky score. "Arirang", "Imoogi", and "Love Theme" are simply brilliant...they helped make the movie more enjoyable then what it was.
