CD coming from LLL!Really liked this score, and the movie wasn't as bad as people claim as well... Benjamin Wallfisch does some very nice stuff, his horror scores are always on point like It 1 & 2, Annabelle: Creation, A Cure for Wellness...

I know he's gonna deliver it with Mortal Kombat even if the movie isn't that good. But kind of a bummer that his next scheduled project comes out in 2021 LOL'Cause maybe the expected all the cues from the sessionsI like this music!The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.
A nod to the last but brought it up to date.
This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s music
i can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-

@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?

Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......

Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day.

But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score).

At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....Some of the action bits, yeah......This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
....................

It's bigger than that.....

After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe.

Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?

Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close.

Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger.

But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.

I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes.Some cues sound like Speed 2
Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lolThis right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...Everyone keep mentionning mw2 but those drums reminded me of...skylanders giants lol! Just listen to the track « Arena battle » and let me knowThe clips are on his Facebook page.2/5 stars? Why are people hating on this?
Me tooExcited!!!God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. Where's the clip of I Rise, You Fall????

Cheers

@ nomnom
Not "Bumblebee" but "You're a Soldier Now", from the scene where Sam runs of with the cube until Optimus arrives in Mission City and transforms.

@bay

If this is really from the ROTF Score then i think were in for a treat, the feel of that cue is Transformers all the way. It bodes well for the new score. Hope it has high moments like "Arrival to Earth".

As for the 1st score, is the full score 2 CD edition put to rest or is Warner still thinking about it?

westfall reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-15 00:00:00
That sucks. Let's just hope they're 43 eppic minutes.

At Amazon.de there are now 6 samples:
The Fallen Arrives - Eppic and chilling;

Tomb of the Primes - This just might be this scores "Arrival to Earth", though it has half the length;

Forest Battle - Kicks Ass;

The Shard - Fast Paced but the more generic from the 6;

Precious Cargo - Knowing what the precious cargo is, i understand the sad and majestic feel of this one;

I Claim Your Sound - The films endgame cue, reminiscent of "Downtown Battle" in the use of certain sounds, ear it and you'll understand what i mean;

All in all, it seems despite the sucky length, this score will still deliver though i'm guessing that like the first one, it will have the fans wanting more.
The 2 CD full score never came despite good sales and if not for that 52 track promo score, we would still be waiting. Hope the same happens for ROTF. Or tha Warner wises up and give people what they want. FULL SCORES.

OOPS!!! That last one should read "I Claim Your Sun"... Sound?WTH? Gotta take my meds...LOL

OK, small update. Full score samples at Amazon.de.
"Prime" is the "Autobots" from this score, recurring in other tracks, mainly in the beautiful "Tomb of the Primes", "Matrix of Leadership" and the haunting "Infinite White". This sounds awesome. Now i'm really counting the days. I'll end up buying the MP3s so i can ear it until the CD arrives. Did it with first and will do it with this. Kudos Mr. Jablonsky, kudos.

Miles reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-15 00:00:00
Absolutely incredible! Jablonsky and Co. have really outdone themselves, judging by what I've heard so far. Admittedly, a longer CD would have been nice, but even a 1:38 track can sound longer than it actually is. We should probably be grateful that Warners needing no prodding this time to release a score.

@Hybrid Soldier

At first, I thought the first score was 60 min long because of the demand by the fans. In fact, I thought the fist score would never have seen the light of day if not for the fans (us!) who signed all those petitions. However, this second score was already planned and thus I thought is official and having less music on it.

But, after your explanation I can see you are right. This has nothing to do with fans' demand, but (unfortunately) new economic situation...

And then they complain about bootleg CDs and DLs. I would have gladly pay 2 or 3 times the price of the original CD Score for a Full Score 2 CD Box. But since they don't publish it i have to make do with the original CD and the promo scores. It's not all there but its better than what they gave us.

Skyler reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-15 00:00:00
That's interesting information, Hybrid - it explains quite a bit.
But exactly how much are reuse fees? Does anyone know?
Also, how do the costs compare to creating a digital download-only version? It seems to me like it might be a good idea to release the commercial CD then have a complete/expanded score available on itunes or Amazon mp3 at a later date.
(That's what they did with David Arnold's score to Casino Royale).

Regarding the length, there's an explanation...

Bob Badami, who co-produced the score, told me how it works...

In the US, when you make a movie, you HAVE to use a US orchestra...

And the law in the US is => on a CD, each 15 minutes of music put on a CD, you pay reuse fees...

A 15 minutes costs a price, then for 30, it's more expensive, for 45, more etc...

On Transformers 1, they ran the risk (with the success of the film, the high demand on the score) to put 60 minutes...

For that CD, unfortunately, they did not invest on 60 min like the previous one, that's why we get a 44 min CD...

It's sad, yes, but logical... :P

At Amazon.de you can hear samples from all 14 score tracks. They sound very huge and entertaining but too much like Gears of War 2.

Deakins reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-15 00:00:00
By the samples, the score seems to be less good than the first one.
Tracks which seem to be good :

1. Prime-- new theme, this is the slightly modifyied of th rejected version of'Arrival to Earth'.
3.NEST-- fusion of linkin park and jablonsky elements smell good.
6. Infinite White -- "Optimus Prime" style with female vocal arrangements.
7. Tomb of the Primes -- A pure jablonsky composition!
12. Matrix of Leadership -- Another version, more dense of the new 'Transformers' theme.
14. I Rise, You Fall -- Reprise of the new theme. Appearly, the score seems to be repetitive...

So, a good score but which has the perfume of "not enough"...

I admit this one seems to be less spectacular than the first (by the samples, i reserve full judgement to friday), but come on, the 1st score was so epic we all knew it would be hard to top. Still, this one seems to be a solid piece of work that is sure to compliment the 1st score. Also, what i think is missing is, and this hapened to me with some less enjoyable cues from the 1st movie and with many other scores, we're still missing that raport that comes from associating the music with the visuals. They add to the experience and make you ear and feel the music in a different way.

Only ~41min? Thats too short... i hope there will be a complete score.

Adrian reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-15 00:00:00
Wow... the score sounds awesome! Infinite White sounds real good, but the woman should be shut up... :P Even NEST sounds good!

westfall reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-14 00:00:00
At www.steve-jablonsky.ch there are 2 clips of music that play randomly, it seems when you open the page. One is a piece of the song "New Divide", the 2nd is a piece of "You're a Soldier Now" from the 1st score. The 3rd, however, though it sounds like something out of the 1st score, seem to be something new. It's either a sample from this new score or a previously unreleased track from the 1st film. Take a listen and tell me what you think.

Griff reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-14 00:00:00
hey, i am really looking forward to the soundtrack it's bound to have some really awesome music on there i am exspecially waiting for NEST and the matrix of leadership - gonna be awesome.

Anywone know the length of the disc? I pre-order last week and i´m waiting xD

Frank reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-14 00:00:00
@ westfall

I think the songs are:

- New Divide (ughh)
- music from the part where Sam runs with the Cube
- and "Bumblebee" from the score album

westfall reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-14 00:00:00
@Frank

I've heard "Bumblebee" hundreds of times and its not it. The track that resembles that clip the most is the the 2nd half of "Sam on the Roof" but the instrumentation is different. I guess it may also be from any other Jablonsky score but it has a definite Transformers feel to it.

nomnom reply Replies: 0 || 2009-06-14 00:00:00
westfalls impression of the SAm on the Roof track being different is correct - it IS a different variation. The others are new divide and the Bumblebee track....hmmm....
