Yep, fun (if slight) score to a very fun movie. "Get it On" is a great action cue.It was also one of the first HG-W's scores I ever listened to (way back when!), so maybe it's just nostalgia talking. <br>But it's worth a listen at least. It's a shame no one talks about this score. <br><br>It's a great listen if you love heavily percussive music! <br><br>Not a highlight in HG-W's carreer by any means, but it's a fun ride, and has some neat unique sounding stuff courtesy of Heitor Pereira, as well as plenty of goold ol' MV style synth/orchestra pounding! He returns to the hitman's bodyguard part 2I was honored, back in 2006, to meet both Nick Glennie-Smith and Harry Gregson-Williams.<br><br>I talked with both about The Rock, and here's what they told.<br><br>Nick & Hans worked very closely on most of their cues. That's why it's so hard to notice any difference between their own styles (and why they share most of the credits).<br>Harry worked separately from Nick & Hans. He remembered working on the San Francisco Chase (though we know Don Harper helped at some point in the process), and on "a lot of the action material from the second half of the movie, once the heroes reach Alcatraz".<br>The credits here tend to prove they were right.<br><br>All the Opening Titles / SEAL Attack is a bit complicated. Hans might have written the theme, but it also might be arranged for pictures by Nick Glennie-Smith (plus there's a lot more going on in these tracks than the man theme alone). So, well, I guess the final result still is a collaborative effort.
A brilliant score, no matter what some people might say. Some of the darkest and most beautiful themes by Hans Zimmer were born here, as well as a lot of very exciting and propulsive electronic techniques. <br>Heck, I even like the movie! The score fits like a glove.<br>It helps that I'm a huge Tony Scott fan though.<br><br>Zimmer would even 'steal' from this score quite a bit in some of his later films. The 'Wayne Manor Suite' from TDKR comes to mind, as well as one of the Blade Runner 2049 themes being strangely similar to The Fan's 'Opening Titles' theme, and I'm sure there are other examples.<br><br>I would love for a complete version to be officially released sometime. It's very unlikely, but one can dream...Listen to the first demo at NGS demos album of "The Rock". The opening and SEAL Attack have a few notes from original NGS theme. That's why NGS is credited to it.I remember hearing something about NGS not wanting his name in the opening credits since it was a Hans cue playing. So yeah. I think the opening is really just Zimmer and the NGS credit is a formality since it was supposed to be Nick’s score.I'm sorry, disregard EVERYTHING I just wrote...The credit on "SEAL Attack" is HZ/NGS/Stern, not HZ/HGW/Stern. Not sure how I missed that. *facepalm*OK, so a thought...<br><br>"Opening" and "SEAL Attack" are functionally identical; Hybrid says that Hans originally wrote it for the latter scene and it was then placed over the main titles of the film. However, the former is credited to Hans and NGS, the latter to Hans, HGW and Steven Stern. Presumably, since HGW/Stern aren't credited on "Opening", their contribution to "SEAL Attack" is limited to that first minute, which does indeed have a lot of HGW-ish percussion work to my ears. That leaves the rest of "SEAL Attack" as Hans' work alone, which begs the question: why the heck is NGS credited for "Opening", then, since it's basically identical? Screw it, I'm labeling that a solo Hans cue. Always bugged me that there wasn't at least one on this score. :p

I agree. Great score. This is "Hans Zimmer Dark Minimalism" done absolutely right. And the Oscorp stuff has to be temp. It goes up and down in just the right places.Forgot Macrotus, so the numbering messed up on 5-8 lol... Macrotus = Father to the Rescue + Hide in the Dark + Courthouse Pt. 1... It seems like Ron Howard is one of those great directors who brings the best out of the composers he works with. It’s also interesting hearing just how much Lorne Balfe’s voice really comes through here.<br><br>Also, I wonder if it’s a coincidence just how much the OSCORP tune from TASM2 sounds like “Watergate Montage” (or did Marc Webb like a temp lol)

Hybrid, create page for complete score of that film

nvictor reply Replies: 3 || 2018-08-16 15:24:52
love this score. hasn't grown on me. was listening to it on my commute today. do you guys know if the track "psychological recovery" is the "suite" that came first. and then other cues developed from it? thanks

Hybrid Soldier2018-08-16 17:54:33
Nope, not a suite, a mix of about 4/5 cues.

Edmund Meinerts2018-08-16 17:56:53
No, "Psychological Recovery" is scored to picture, a bunch of cues put together from the climax of the film. IIRC the first three minutes or so are a solo Balfe cue actually.

Mike2018-08-16 18:36:53
...and a very good solo Balfe cue, at that. That theme and Hans' Moriarty theme are the most engaging ideas of these movies, to me.

Hey, while I'm here, any word on Hans doing the third movie?

Felix reply Replies: 7 || 2018-05-14 17:26:09
@Hybrid Soldier:

Why you still don't add the Complete Score Page? It's since a long time out

Mike (OTM)2018-05-14 18:56:10
He said a few years back that he "doesn't like" this bootleg. I imagine he still doesn't like it. ;)

Medigo2018-05-14 19:32:03
Its because its the film mix as opposed to the sessions, isnt it?

Anonymous2018-05-15 15:19:06
yes it is the film mix. I have it. plays like an isolated score. including source cues.

Edmund Meinerts2018-05-15 16:14:16
Yeah, it's pretty frustrating. It's full of unmusical crossfades and volume fluctuations, and to be honest there isn't a whole lot of worthwhile material there that wasn't already covered by the album (only the Dredger/boatyard fight music is really necessary). Still worth checking out if you're a big fan of the score, of course, but if you skip it you're not missing too much.

mpolonest123 2018-05-15 17:22:18
Someone did an edit on that release which removes the source music and cross fades, as well as fixing the volume. Still not great but much better than the other version.

But Edmund is right, almost everything necessary (excluding the Dredger fight and Blackwood Resurrection) is on the album. Probably one of Zimmer’s best album releases.

Medigo2018-05-15 17:47:21
I also quite like the Saving Irene/Blackwood Plan Explained tracks
and the proper opening of course

Bibi2018-06-07 15:25:08
I've got the new edit of the recording sessions, it's so much better than the previous one. Now I don't see any quality difference with the recordings sessions of Game of Shadows.

If I recall correclty, this track has been on Lorne Balfe's website for a while now.

Also, a complete isolated score has surfaced a certain time ago, including every material heard in the movie, sfx-free of course.

It surfaced same day as Inception and Rango. Almost 2 years ago

Ain't going to happen.

Adam2015-04-08 09:57:45
Why not, Zimson?

Zimson2015-04-08 23:29:51
.. because its just another silly waste of time and space to post a score that no one can ever buy legally. I just steal them myself off of pirated websites, screw the law.

Adam2015-04-09 02:13:06
But isn't it nice to have a proper place to discuss it? And there's no way of legally buying it so there's only one option! I would just like to have the credits that Hybrid Soldier posts on some of the other complete scores. That information is most helpful and I am thankful for that :)

@Adam, I believe somewhere down the page, you might read that Hybrid Soldier doesn't care for the version of the complete score that became available not too long ago. And if you know anything about how Hybrid Soldier is, you could figure that if he doesn't like something, then it doesn't deserve to have its own page...or some bullshit.

Yup I read further down the page and saw him comment as well as the cues with all credits. Silly me XD

Mike reply Replies: 3 || 2014-05-07 18:12:32
Interesting....Remember how Hybrid said that if Lorne gets an "additional music / score producer" credit, it's a disguised way of saying he's a co-composer? Well if you look at the "Thanks" section in here and on Inception, it lists "Eva and David Balfe", who are usually only thanked in scores where Lorne is a fully-fledged composer, right? ;)

Anonymous2014-05-07 18:25:53
Part of me thinks that calling Balfe a co-composer on this one is understatement.

Mike2014-05-07 19:28:36
Same with Inception and any other score of Hans' he "produced"....lol

Zimson2014-06-03 19:08:13
He did the first half, or so of "Psychological Recovery... 6 Months", the rest is basically arrangements, I suppose.

Zimson reply Replies: 8 || 2014-02-11 18:58:03
I always thought Discombobulate was by Hans? On lornebalfe.com it says that the end credits music is by Lorne (It's basically the same thing).

MacArthur2014-02-11 19:29:15
I think it's by both.

Mike2014-02-11 19:48:59
It's Lorne Balfe's arrangement of Hans' original theme (check "Holmes (Hans 'n' Guy Version)"). So it is essentially by Hans, yes. All the elements found in Discombobulate are pretty much in Hans' original theme.

Zimson2014-02-11 21:00:14
Yeah, the theme is by Hans, but I've once red a post by Hans in a composer forum, where he says that he composed Discombobulate (indirectly, to be honest), after he got criticized by another composer. It was like: "Hey, I wrote it." or sth. like that if I remember it correctly.

Btw, I have the link, but I am not allowed to post it. (Or is it no problem?).
Use Google and type in: "Hans Zimmer in a forum!!!??" The first link that should appear is to a thread on the John Williams Fan Network site. The first post features a number of links. Click on the second one from below where it says "(his review about a member's piece, and about Sherlock Holmes)". Then look out for member "rctec".

Hybrid Soldier2014-02-11 21:06:44
Discombobulate is 90% HZ, what's this debate about ? lol

Zimson2014-02-11 21:11:57
@Hybrid Well, the end credits music is basically Discombobulate with more brass and and according to Lorne's website it's by him. So I thought this would be worth a discussion.

Mike2014-02-11 22:36:54
Well even on this website, Lorne's name is under Discombobulate....

RealFfingMusic2014-02-12 03:37:00
If anyone wants to bet here, I'm on Hans.
Apparently Discombobulate is so awesome everybody wants their name on it! (Except Hans, Heh-heh)

Zimson2014-02-12 08:27:50

Who wrote Blackwood's theme, Lorne Balfe or Hans Zimmer?

SamFisher2013-09-26 21:14:47
Lorne Balfe

Areozz2013-09-27 00:22:23
Methinks that by now, Blackwood's theme originated from music that has to be public domain. Unless we're not talking about the same theme, the one I'm thinking of bears a strong resemblance to the tune that grandfather clocks play. In fact, one occurrence of the theme happens during a shot of Big Ben.

Are we thinking of the same theme?

Mike2013-09-27 00:59:40
I daresay we are. Had you not mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed the similarities, but now they're really obvious.

MacArthur2013-09-27 03:15:09

Lorne Balfe is an enigma to me. Sometimes I like his music a lot ("Is It Poison, Nanny?", credited solely to him, is my favorite track on this album, and I love the whole Inception score, as well as the Skylanders and MW2 scores). On the other hand, I dislike some of his stuff and think it sounds cheap (a lot of the TDKR cues and the AC3 score).

I don't believe Garage sent you anything due to the fact that he would be risking his source, and I am sure he is smarter than that.

Garage2013-05-11 09:20:54
FAKE !!!

Mike2013-05-11 09:51:58
I'm beginning to think that anyone who claims to have a complete score on this site will now use the name Anonymous123.

Cody2013-05-11 23:02:46
This track list is legit.

T-Mann0362013-05-12 17:30:10
The leak is FINALLY here!!!!!

Hybrid Soldier2013-05-12 17:56:04
And no, I won't create a page for that one...

Cause I basically don't want to... Cause I don't like that bootleg (the boot, not the music :P).

al bundy2013-05-12 17:59:26
has now been leaked as well.

Anonymous2013-05-12 18:42:48
This thing sounds like it was taken directly from the film. All the edits and cuts and crossfades are present - but no dialogue and sfx. How strange.

cheesy2013-05-12 18:57:36
I noticed that, too. As opposed to Inception and TDKR, which sound like they were earlier than the actual film mix.

Hybrid Soldier2013-05-12 18:58:15
You just explained my previous message... :)

cheesy2013-05-12 19:04:22
Hey Hybrid, any idea why some bootlegs from around 2008 (Iron Man and TDK being the best examples) sound much more richly mastered and have more noticeable bass than most others (like POTC and TDKR or even Inception) which sound... emptier, almost?

Hybrid Soldier2013-05-12 19:06:09
Hard to say... Just depends on the original recording... Some are recorded loud, some are not. Bootlegs are original files so not mastered by definition. There's no rule.

Mr Motivator2013-05-12 22:12:21
the 'boot' actually sounds better than the commercial release imo

Medigo2013-05-12 23:43:38
Makes ya wonder how many bootlegs are still out there

watch it be the next thing everyone begs about

Rene2013-05-13 13:57:01
Hybrid; Now i can say this is not the original sessions, it is only an complete isolated score(bootleg) but i do not know the source of this and the slates!!!!

Hybrid Soldier2013-05-13 14:04:47
I honestly don't know the source, nor understand it. Is it some DVD isolated production (like WarmButter DVDs) ? Is it true sessions "arranged" in film mix by someone ? No idea.

The titles just come from the cue sheet I posted years ago...

And some are even wrong here, Arrival Of Dredger should actually be "Meet Dredger"... ;)

Anonymous2013-05-13 14:06:21
The slates and titles are clearly from ASCAP. Some cues are mis-titled at parts too.

lkjj2013-05-12 17:25:38

Does anyone else hear Angelica's POTC4 theme in Data, Data, Data?

Mike reply Replies: 0 || 2012-11-24 09:12:28
To be honest, I thought the score to the first movie didn't fit the onscreen material very well (A Game of Shadows was much better with that), but I gotta hand it to Zimmer: he did something different. That's really admirable in and of itself.

Thanks for putting the original soundtrack in film order, Felix, and using the ASCAP track titles. I'm not trying to sound like a dick or anything. I just thought I'd let people know that if an/the edit ever surfaces that corresponds to this list, nothing new or mind-blowing will be found in it.

[I did an analysis of the score myself recently, to put the slate numbers and names to the appropriate music and then took a look at what of that music is available on the OST.]

Does anybody know what was temp-track for this movie?

cheesy2012-01-01 22:05:33
Pretty sure it was the score for The Dark Knight, which is why Guy Ritchie wanted to work with HZ in the first place.

Mr. Fate2012-01-02 15:11:25
Temp tracks? Like what they used as temporary score before Zimmer wrote something for this film? I'm pretty sure they did that for PotC2 since part of Hello Beastie sounds almost identical to a track from King Arthur.

Anonymous2012-01-02 15:41:20
Zimmer has confirmed it was TDK
