For those of you disappointed in this score...remember...This is Bad Boys 3 lol....Have you heard Bad Boys 1+2? Cmon now...relax and take it for what it isI'd be surprised if we don't see some Wallfisch scores this year. He has been so prolific lately, would be weird to suddenly go an entire year without a single assignment.CD coming from LLL!Really liked this score, and the movie wasn't as bad as people claim as well... Benjamin Wallfisch does some very nice stuff, his horror scores are always on point like It 1 & 2, Annabelle: Creation, A Cure for Wellness...

I know he's gonna deliver it with Mortal Kombat even if the movie isn't that good. But kind of a bummer that his next scheduled project comes out in 2021 LOL'Cause maybe the expected all the cues from the sessions
I like this music! The #balfeness !!!! Has outdone himself on Bad Boys for Life.
A nod to the last but brought it up to date.
This and 6 Underground has blown me away with Balfe’s musici can't understand, when someone is saying "it REMINDS of mw2" when those mentioned cues are completely re-used 1:1. it's identical, sometimes layered with mancinas themes. it doesn't just remind you of mw2 when lorne seriously uses the identical tracks or parts from mw2 -_-

@bayhem: then listen to it. i'm not a fan of lorne, but his work there is real fun and some real good action cues. with the themes of Zimmer, it's crazy that it's just a game. one of or maybe THE best work of lorne!Colleague of mine (a film score fan too) asked me which new Balfe score is better in my opinion - Bad Boys for Life or 6 Underground?

Honestly - and as much as I praised BB3 - I couldn't decide......

Both movies have a lot of songs, which is something I don't like. Look at Transformers. There are songs too but they don't overshadow the score. The score is still the star and that's why people flood Steve's Twitter with praise. Day after day.

But sadly for Lorne, his recent work in film WAS indeed overshadowed by the random songs. If they didn't rely on songs so much, I'm sure that 6 Underground would've been the crown jewel for Lorne. It's a big, big movie that begs for equally big and memorable score (though we can't really expect Transformners-syze score).

At the end of the day, Lorne did good on 6 Underground but it was just a small sign of what COULD have been.....Some of the action bits, yeah......
This right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...
....................

It's bigger than that.....

After all, this is a Bruckheimer production. His movies established Hans and the entire MV/RC sound. His movies are known for their awesome scores. Scores that are populrar with the ordinary viewers as well. But 2008 onward, things changed.....Back in the 90's and early 2000's every single Bruckheimer film had a spectacular score. Powerful, melodic themes, cues that stayed with you, scores that attracted the attention of the average Joe.

Nowadays tho, we don't have that. Hell, when was the last time a (newer) action score from MV/RC-related composer was praised the way 'The Rock' was praised?

Lorne's Mission Impossible? No. Not even close.

Personally, I like what Lorne did with BB3, especially with the emotional cues. But put it next to Mancina's work. I mean it's not even a contest. The Mancina score is one memorable, melodic track after another. There's not a single boring track. Every track is a banger.

But the newer scores? They have two or three tracks that are good and everything else is.......utterly forgettable.

I blame it on the lack of themes. Orchestra or not, more scores need to have actual themes. Some cues sound like Speed 2Guess I'm the only person around here who hasn't listened to the Modern Warfare 2 score. So I can't really have an opinion on this matter..... lolThis right here is my single biggest issue with Balfe as a composer. And with the recording sessions clips he posts it is truly a mystery. Tinfoil hat on I'd say he skimps on the budget and hires those musicians just for a couple hours to shoot those clips for PR and the actual score is all synth but that's a baseless claim of course lol...Everyone keep mentionning mw2 but those drums reminded me of...skylanders giants lol! Just listen to the track « Arena battle » and let me know
The clips are on his Facebook page.2/5 stars? Why are people hating on this?Me tooExcited!!!God’s gun theme reminds me of part of “River Mission” from Battlefield 2: Modern Combat OST. I think Lorne was an additional composer on that score aswell (excellent OST btw)

Has a score released for "A Game of Shadows" been confirmed yet?

Dakota2011-07-13 08:43:28
It's not definite confirmation, but Hans' name is in the credits at the end of the trailer. And the music in it is the same as the first one.

Dave2011-07-19 22:06:21
I'm excited to see what Hans and the gang come up with for the sequel. Hopefully we get a nice, 55+ min score release too.

Jimmer2011-07-31 20:27:19
I hope there's more of what was in "Psychological Recovery...6 Months" in the score to A Game of Shadows. That cue is one of my all-time favorites my Zimmer. Of course, Balfe is great too. His contribution can't be forgotten and here's hoping he's involved on the second soundtrack as well.

cheesy2011-07-31 21:32:02
I'm just praying that Hans Zimmer devotes enough time and energy into the score for Game of Shadows and makes it as original and charismatic as the first score, and doesn't simply hand the job off to his protégées and we end up with a heap of uninspired and recycled expendable garbage.

Jimmer2011-07-31 22:10:13
@cheesy: Yes, I'm all for Balfe adding his flair to the score, but I pray that the myriad of other guys don't touch this score because the first was good because Zimmer controlled the extras and soloists. Sort of like controlled chaos that made for a wonderful listen in the end. But as we saw and heard with On Stranger Tides, Zimmer's minions aren't quite up to par with the maestro himself yet.

kaka2011-07-31 22:15:17
so....after all the disappointments this year Game of Shadows is the next one...

Here's what I know:

Zimmer likes trilogies - he likes expanding on his initial scores, so this might be a good thing for this one...

Bad news? If he does to this what he did with Rango and Pirates 4 its gonna stink.

cheesy2011-07-31 22:33:52
Well, another reason I'm worried is because Hans Zimmer has already started working on TDKR. From what I've heard in various interviews with him, he likes to take it one project at a time, and fully get into the "mode" of his next project, which he seemingly has already done for TDKR. So why would he want to suddenly switch gears and go into full-time "Holmes mode" like last time around? Wouldn't it be much easier for him to just hand it off to the other guys and then sit in the recording booth and nod?

It is possible that HZ will set TDKR aside for the time being and take the necessary time to be fully devoted to Game of Shadows to expand upon his initial score like kaka is saying, which I'm praying is what happens...but honestly, given the reputation of RCP so far this year, which outcome seems more likely?

Dakota2011-07-31 23:07:14
I think I would rather have him focused on TDKR than Sherlock. As awesome as Sherlock is, I would like him to top TDK and see what we get from TDKR. TDK is one of the best film scores ever, in my opinion.

cheesy2011-07-31 23:49:44
@Dakota I do suppose you're right about that. It would just be sad to sacrifice a series of scores with so much potential like Sherlock. If James Newton Howard was returning for TDKR, then I would be much more inclined. But since (at least as of now) JNH isn't involved...I don't know if TDKR can top TDK and BB. I have no doubt in my mind Zimmer will give us something epically phenomenal, I'm just saying, there may be a severe element of elegance missing that detracts from it what made TDK and BB complete works of art.

But back to the subject at hand, I guess I would feel better if Hans hadn't started on TDKR yet. That way we could have gotten both. But I guess we won't know until the soundtrack comes out.

snoopD2011-07-31 23:50:10
Dosent Zim usually just develop a theme and hand it off to his crew for completion? I expect him to pretty much do that with both Sherlock and the final Batman flick. Guy seems to be less involved with each sequel he does.

cheesy2011-08-01 00:07:26
**Sorry, I wrote that last part in a rush. I think "we could've gotten both" was the wrong way to phrase that. Disregard.

Jimmer2011-08-01 03:58:31
But none of that makes sense because isn't A Game of Shadows being released before The Dark Knight Rises? If so, that would mean the score for Sherlock 2 should be nearing completion. I want Zimmer to have all the time in the world for the last entry in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise. The movie is going to be epic and the score must match that in scope, scale, and feel. And plus with Newton Howard not attached to this movie Zimmer needs more time. Just saying.

Cordrol2011-08-20 19:53:55
Zimmer neds to step up to the plate, seriously. Many of his scores (with the exception of the Dark knight, the only release to have a decept amount of music released on the 1st disk alone) are usually always between 45-55 mins. long. Where's a nice 75 min release? Huh? Like Brian Tyler or Michael Giacchino. I'm fed up with this, he's too humble? Bull, he just doesn't release enough music, keep the fans happy, it doesn't matter if you think your work sucks or not, if people like it, then by all means, give them more.

SMH Hans Zimmer -__-

Jo2011-08-22 08:02:15
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who is a bit worried. I LOVE the SH score, imo it's the best after TDK. Which makes it all the more frightening, as he does that one about now as well. I couldn't live with either one not living up to his best work. And I think he knows that too.
I have come to love the Spanish tracks from Pirates 4, as well as Mermaids. But of course, compared to Pirates 3 .... 'nuff said.
I think he needs a break from all those sequels. Yet, those two sequels really need to be amazing. Oh pretty please!

Where can I find it to listen?

Areozz2011-08-15 20:20:23
Absolutely nobody has these recording sessions and even if they did, they definitely aren't going to email them to you alone. This track list just came off of ASCAP, or some other site like it. People aren't supposed to leave their email addresses on here anyway.

Anonymous2011-08-15 21:10:37
Sorry about that, I suppose I made a mistake in leaving my email address. Apologies. Actually, I wasn't expecting them for free. I was planning paying a great deal of money to get them if possible. Anyway, I really do think someone has these. I was lucky enough to get King Kong.

Areozz2011-08-20 14:59:11
Don't ever pay someone for a score, let alone trade for a score unless you 100% trust them(according to someone else here, you're supposed to trust them 20% and let them do 80% of the work to prove they are trustworthy). The best way is almost always just to sit around and wait until the music becomes available.

And anyway, I'm not entirely sure that this track list is real. I swear I first saw it not on some ASCAP or similar page but under some forum where a guy was like, "Hey, I was just messing around and came up with a complete track list for Sherlock Holmes."

Joyce2011-08-20 16:23:23
Wait a second.

First someone was at the Pirates 4 page doping on about a full score (and folks got scammed), then the Pirates 3 page had the same thing, then King Kong. now Sherlock? Something not right.
