GITS 2.0? I hope not.I have no idea why, filmmusicreporter wrote about it...Seriously? Why they make this decision? They want to sound like Interstellar or what?LOL, Lorne is co-composing "Ad Astra" with Max Richter, that guy is everywhereI think we can call Ian Brown McCarthy the Anti-MacArthur....lol.... Where MacArthur set out to prove everything was by Zimmer, Ian proves everything is by Lorne. ;)<br><br>Kidding, mostly. Lorne's contributions, especially where he has "producer" credits like on this score, are undeniably underrepresented. I've always considered Lorne a co-composer here, just like on Inception, Sherlock Holmes, and Kung Fu Panda 2-3.
Not to nitpick, but even "near co-composer" is downplaying Lorne's role IMO; I've had him listed as co-composer in my personal library for a solid year now.<br><br>On a relate note: man, Hans and Lorne make damn good music together.What I want to know is if the album version of Nixon Defeated is the solo Hans alt or notFeels like there are more Balfe credits on this version than on the album (e.g. Status Suite, solo Hans on the album, Hans/LB here). In fact I'd go so far as to label him a near co-composer here, just like Inception and Sherlock Holmes.Any word on where this can be found, or if it actually exists? H-Z (here) is the only place any of these tracks (let alone mention of a complete version of this score) can be found.Why you haven't update about David Buckley with Angel Has Fallen score yet?
Yep, fun (if slight) score to a very fun movie. "Get it On" is a great action cue.It was also one of the first HG-W's scores I ever listened to (way back when!), so maybe it's just nostalgia talking. <br>But it's worth a listen at least.It's a shame no one talks about this score. <br><br>It's a great listen if you love heavily percussive music! <br><br>Not a highlight in HG-W's carreer by any means, but it's a fun ride, and has some neat unique sounding stuff courtesy of Heitor Pereira, as well as plenty of goold ol' MV style synth/orchestra pounding!He returns to the hitman's bodyguard part 2I was honored, back in 2006, to meet both Nick Glennie-Smith and Harry Gregson-Williams.<br><br>I talked with both about The Rock, and here's what they told.<br><br>Nick & Hans worked very closely on most of their cues. That's why it's so hard to notice any difference between their own styles (and why they share most of the credits).<br>Harry worked separately from Nick & Hans. He remembered working on the San Francisco Chase (though we know Don Harper helped at some point in the process), and on "a lot of the action material from the second half of the movie, once the heroes reach Alcatraz".<br>The credits here tend to prove they were right.<br><br>All the Opening Titles / SEAL Attack is a bit complicated. Hans might have written the theme, but it also might be arranged for pictures by Nick Glennie-Smith (plus there's a lot more going on in these tracks than the man theme alone). So, well, I guess the final result still is a collaborative effort.
A brilliant score, no matter what some people might say. Some of the darkest and most beautiful themes by Hans Zimmer were born here, as well as a lot of very exciting and propulsive electronic techniques. <br>Heck, I even like the movie! The score fits like a glove.<br>It helps that I'm a huge Tony Scott fan though.<br><br>Zimmer would even 'steal' from this score quite a bit in some of his later films. The 'Wayne Manor Suite' from TDKR comes to mind, as well as one of the Blade Runner 2049 themes being strangely similar to The Fan's 'Opening Titles' theme, and I'm sure there are other examples.<br><br>I would love for a complete version to be officially released sometime. It's very unlikely, but one can dream...Listen to the first demo at NGS demos album of "The Rock". The opening and SEAL Attack have a few notes from original NGS theme. That's why NGS is credited to it.I remember hearing something about NGS not wanting his name in the opening credits since it was a Hans cue playing. So yeah. I think the opening is really just Zimmer and the NGS credit is a formality since it was supposed to be Nick’s score.I'm sorry, disregard EVERYTHING I just wrote...The credit on "SEAL Attack" is HZ/NGS/Stern, not HZ/HGW/Stern. Not sure how I missed that. *facepalm*OK, so a thought...<br><br>"Opening" and "SEAL Attack" are functionally identical; Hybrid says that Hans originally wrote it for the latter scene and it was then placed over the main titles of the film. However, the former is credited to Hans and NGS, the latter to Hans, HGW and Steven Stern. Presumably, since HGW/Stern aren't credited on "Opening", their contribution to "SEAL Attack" is limited to that first minute, which does indeed have a lot of HGW-ish percussion work to my ears. That leaves the rest of "SEAL Attack" as Hans' work alone, which begs the question: why the heck is NGS credited for "Opening", then, since it's basically identical? Screw it, I'm labeling that a solo Hans cue. Always bugged me that there wasn't at least one on this score. :p

Before I saw Inception on IMAX, the theater was playing the soundtrack, and it started with the track from the 2nd trailer, the song similar to 528491, but with crazy epic drums. It had no dialogue, so Im wondering if theaters were given a promotional soundtrack with extra tracks.....Anyone work for a regal cinema with an IMAX theater?

@Justincat
Maybe it was one of the bonus tracks that was never released?

JJimmy reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-26 00:00:00
I love this soundtrack to death-- however, I'm almost positive that "Dream Is Collapsing" was almost twice as long, possibly even 3x as much, in the film itself. The film version seemed much more exciting to me, and I'm pretty disappointed that the longer version didn't make it to the soundtrack. I hope a longer cut is released at some point, but no matter what, a terrific soundtrack!!!

Bou reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-26 00:00:00
The score is just released with a great representation of the scores (including all the highlights) and some dudes already create a petition for a longer version??? geeezzz... take a breath...

Anonymous reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-26 00:00:00
I hope they include the 2nd trailer music in the new release of the score,

Hey Hybrid Soldier, could you please ask Hans if he is the one who did the 2nd trailer music or not???, because i have a feeling its him, but I'm not sure.

HZgui reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-26 00:00:00
bou- I know what you're talking about, I find that the score is truly representative of what's in the movie (especially highlights). But why are we barkling like dogs? It's because we think that Zimmer's work isn't truly representative. He composed several hours of music (2h30 movie->2h20 music during the movie) and all we have is a poor 50 minutes soundtrack ya see it's not representative of what he's done for the movie (I heard about 3 hours of music...). At least, we wanted something like Gladiator (1h13 of music that are in the movie). I think there's 10 or 15 minutes missing in the actual soundtrack to be complete (which 2 or 3 tracks- or 2 tracks and a complete version of dream is collapsing and time) and if we get this 10-15 minutes everyone here will be happy and you first ;).

Everyone here knows the name of the missing tracks (projections and don't think about elephants), and we have the feeling that dream is collapsing and time are short (or remixed) version.

Go to.

PetitionOnline.com

and set up a petition to show WarnerBros WaterTower Records that an expanded/complete 2CD set is viable.

C'mon-mobilise our epic fanbase and change the measly 50 mins of score into 2:35 min of score !

Hi people, some news regarding the bonus tracks !

You asked me to contact HZ to get this clear, so I did !

He told me they do exist, and though it wasn't clear for him either (lol), there's a exclusive story with Verizon & iTunes (when it was for pre-order), according to him.

So I did tell him the current Verizon version has no bonus tracks, neither did the pre-order iTunes version, and showed him the WB comment about "only one digital version identical to the physical version"...

So HZ himself did send an email to the record company to clarify the situation and if possible make the tracks available by a way or another... :)

I have recorded my dreams in a journal for many years and what I found outstanding about the soundtrack for this movie was the feeling that so many of the soundscapes reminded me of many dreams from my childhood, teenage years and young adulthood.

Besides that Hans Zimmer keeps on delivering truly epic soundscapes and musical moments; with fascinating versatility and the most diverse reminiscences in his details...

Thank you for a truly fantastic experience =)

I made a petition, but i'm not sure I can share the link on this site. Search petitiononline.com under the tag "zimmer" and you should find it.

Most cool music is in the last 30 minutes of the movie. Only 6 minutes of these terrific action music is featured on the soundtrack disk.

Such a shame if you know that a disc can hold 80 minutes. Since the score uses mostly synth and guitar it probably didn't cost much more to fill the disk to 75 minutes...

Shame shame...

Does anyone have listened to some samples of DAFT PUNK for the upcoming movie TRON LEGACY?? it sounds great and it really reminds me the Inception score , like some unereleased material !! :

@Bou : For me several of the six cues availables on youtube remind me some HZ cues. I think to Inception or Batman Begins.

Daft Punk using the Zimmer style ?

Anonymous reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-23 00:00:00
HZgui I agree totally. Those where among the coolest tracks of the whole movie.

Can't the webmasters ask around with Zimmer where those bonus tracks are???

Where smoke is is fire. The tracks are even in the official announcements of warner on http://press.warnerbrothers.com/site/preRelease.php

so there must be some truth in it...

If you google about these bonus tracks the whole internet seems interested in those...

I hope they will surface soon and that Warner has just "forgotten" them by mistake.

HZgui reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-23 00:00:00
unfortunately the official press announcement was wrong...and even warnerbros record has no idea about it. I don't think they will make another CD but because it is too short. I mean all the cues are there, except projections and don't think about elphants, they'll not waste time making another CD. We have to pray and hope for a digital download on the web.
I will watch the movie again (3 times haha) see if something's missing.

we are begging for two "miserable" but so F***ing EPIC tracks that may increase the overall album and change everything (we are talking about approx 10 minutes of music)

tomPoland reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-23 00:00:00
TDK 'special edition' was a mistake. Few more minutes of music (new music). Rest - the same stuff that was on cd 1 and some completely unnecessary remixes (done to promote Hans clone/co-workers).

HZgui reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-23 00:00:00
tompoland- I do not agree. The deluxe edition was far better than the original CD. Even if the original CD is a true masterpiece, the deluxe edition is full of music that we had ignored the existence. For exemple, A watchful guardian...

No it was not a mistake.

WE have to put some pressure on warnerbros record shoulders'

Talocan reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-22 00:00:00
Just saw the movie. Great movie but shame much of the action music from the last half hour is cut from the album :(

Why do they always include pointless track like 'old souls' and leave the cool action tracks of the album.

I hope they will release a 2CD version someday like they did with Dark Knight

Colynn reply Replies: 0 || 2010-07-22 00:00:00
Stunning performance of the awesome soundtrack! I was so impressed by the whole performance, combining the elements of the movie in a powerful performance. My compliments to the performers for their obvious enthusiasm and virtuosity.
This astonishing film no doubt was the inspiration for the wonderful soundtrack, and deserves Oscar recognition. Watch the movie and savour the soundtrack. You will be entertained, challenged and moved.
