I seriously don't understand why they didn't do two separate releases like most musicals do (La La Land comes to mind - perfect release).

A soundtrack album and a score album. No missing tracks, no fuss. And optional 2-CD set containing both.

Instead, they went with a soundtrack album with some of the score and another song album for whatever reason that is lol.The second half of the new "Elephant Graveyard" is basically note for note "I Was Just Trying to Be Brave" from the 1994 version as well, just with a few changes in orchestrationThis is only HGW's score, a good chunk of it was rejected.Wonder if it will take 20 years for an official complete score XD Not to mention any unofficial leaks (it took a long time to even get that for the original film). TBH, I'd prefer a proper release of any score any day of the week.

To answer the question above me: Mostly it's new material using the same themes from 1994, though if my interpretation the OST is correct, the hyenas and Timon and Pumbaa get new themes. The only true 'copies' of music from 1994 are Circle of Life and Remember, but even then, they are at least partially-new recordings.Do we know who wrote what?
Is it all material from 1994 or is it new 2019 score?I confirm I'm back from it, there's quite a bit of unreleased score.Well, now we have somebody who's seen it (and yes, it's out in some countries today), we know for certain.

I wouldn't expect anything official any time soon unless Zimmer wants to release a second CD.I absolutely love Kai’s theme in this score, there are so many cool variations that weren’t on the initial album. Hans and Co. really stepped up their game here. I don’t feel the temp as heavily here as KFP2 (which is still an amazing sequel score).Saw the film today, there is a LOT of music missing.
As stupid as this film is, you can tell Tom probably had fun working on it. The music is so over the top, it just goes nuts all the way through.This is one of those scores that I have really warmed up to since it’s release. The emotional stuff for Alita works really well in context and her “Hero Theme” gets some great development (the way it culminates in “Epilogue” is incredible). Also really love the “Motorball” stuff.

After seeing the film I think the only substantial music not on the album is “Motorball Plan” and “Alita’s Revenge Pt. 1”. The end credits piece I’m guessing is edited from the Full Motorball Suite.Hybrid, did Lorne actually do a lot of writing on this one or is he just being credited for the theme?We've had this argument before, almost any score can fit in a film. But what separates the mediocre composers from the best is the ability to make great music that works on its own, outside of the film.

Hans has had a lot of work lately that hasn't been doing that, and it's the reason people want him to work with orchestra again and produce is 2000s, late 90s type of style. Because those scores, for whatever problems they had, they felt distinct, memorable (for the most part), and easily could have been enjoyed away from the film.

Good scores have themes and ideas that both enhance the film, and enhance the listener's experience. Music like Dunkirk, Inferno, or Widows just feel like shallow and empty committee scores that the studio/directors didn't want too much thought put into. "Ah just write one main theme, and fill in the rest with electronics, Hans, it'll be fine!"Hahahahaha well I’m glad he got the credit then :D
I absolutely disagree with you saying Widows is a terrible score. It may not be great on album, but the music fits very well with the film.Actually, I think he only gets credits cause he is the guy... whistling ! :PElectric violinJust out of curiosity... what instrument is playing when Liv and Ben are running towards each other at the end? (Long Distance Goodbye/Landing? I love that instrument!And I’m guessing Neill Blomkamp contributed somehow to the “We Own This Sky” theme that pops up throughout...

@ Hybrid: Were you ever able to find out who composed which cue? As always, thanks in advance!

"Crusades" has to be one of the most exciting action cues to come out of RC in a long time.

Thanks for the info, Hybrid! Things here are.... sandy. ;)
I'm having a pretty tough time getting soundtracks, so it looks like I'll have to resort to iTunes and/or Amazon MP3. At least I have access to the internet though! I'm digging the new stuff for SEASON, especially "Crusades"

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-19 00:00:00
Hi Bondo, nice to see you here, hope all is well !

"Final Battle" is the old version of "Killing The Demon"

"Season Of The Witch" is an unused "Main Title" which should have been after the Prologue.

"Anna & Kay" is the old version of "I Was There"

"Felson & Kay Fight" is the old version of "Teach Him Some Manners"

"Behmen", I don't know, it might have been near the beginning, when the character appears for the first time, after the Main Titles.

From the old OST :

"The Cardinal" should have been between "The Village" & "Is That A Witch?"

"Trenches" should have been before "Eckhart's Funeral"

"Dungeons" doesn't ring a bell... There's no such a scene in the film... Was supposed to be near the beginning, but as all the Opening of the movie changed almost totally, I guess it was just wiped out !

And "Deliver Us From Evil", I don't know either, I might have missed the sentence in the movie... :O lol

;)

Having seen the film Hybrid, can you speculate where the missing tracks from the original score would have gone? I'm just trying to make a chronological tracklist for both the new and original scores, and I won't be able to reference the movie myself. Thanks! =)

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-15 00:00:00
I can't say yondaime... I can't say... :S

BTW I updated the tracklist for Season ! It's quite a mess !

I did watch the film yesterday (which was pretty cool, far from those terrible reviews I read, but I'm good audience ;)) !

And you want something in chronological order, it should look close to that :

01 - 1234 AD
02 - Crusades
03 - The Plague
04 - The Village
05 - Is That The Witch ?
06 - Behmen & The Girl
07 - Teach Him Some Manners
08 - Eckhart's Funeral
09 - Crossing The Bridge
10 - Wormwood
11 - Wolf Attack
12 - Road To Severac
13 - Clavis Salomonis
14 - Dead Monks
15 - Like Cockroaches
16 - Kill The Demon
17 - I Was There

:P

@Hybrid

Why does hans not want to release tlk complete score, its one of his best masterpiece, why not share the music, he seems upfront on sharing music.

one more question hybrid, i am a big fan TWO STEPS FROM HELL. Could you tell us how they came to rcp and the story behind it. Would love to know?

thanks for all ur answers

the old tracklist is up on amazon - wait i thought that wasn't available to buy or something?

When will the new release be out?

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 0 || 2011-01-12 00:00:00
@yondaime

No, HZ said that IF he wanted to start a process of releasing TLK, it would be success guarantee...

But HZ is not of any help for (re)releasing his old stuff, so I don't expect anything, until the day he proves me wrong...

@atlifan

It's digital only, you can find it on many stores like Amazon, iTunes...

I'll add the new tracklist later today... Looks pretty interesting... Apparently they removed quite a lot of the old score there ! This score's story is really one of a kind... :O

Secreeeeeeet !! ;-P

Anyway, I'm curious about how they'll present the new OST... Atli wrote 35 min extra... Are they gonna just add a few cues to the OST ? Delete some old cues ?

Should be interesting... :P

Atli confirmed the "new" OST is for very soon (maybe later this week) !

He also told me an OST is planned for his score "The Eagle" ! :)

The film is at the theatre now (in US).....anything new for the reworked score and the physical CD?

Anonymous reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-25 00:00:00
hopefully this gets a rerelease with the additional music

Hybrid Soldier reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-22 00:00:00
About what I wrote, Atli commented... First, he was alone to rework the score, no co-composer, it was an imdb mistake... ;)

Atli : "It's been a bit complicated. The score came out "by accident" and then got pulled. I did the rescore so I expect to add some of the new music on there and hope to re-release when the movie comes out.

The good thing is that the reshoots have made it a better film and I think the score is better too."

Adrian reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-13 00:00:00
This is very interesting!

We now have a LEGAL bootleg/ rejected score :D

The film itself looked very interesting, especially the grime on Christopher Lee!
Let's hope it gets released :P
