If Nolan is not working with Zimmer, Ludwig Göransson would be a dream choice for me. I really think he is an up and coming composer capable of great things.

But of course, I rather Nolan stick with Zimmer.Ludwig GöranssonNolan's movie IT IS CONFIRMED ;)As much as I liked Julyan's work - especially his score for Insomnia, don't think it would work. I mention Lorne because he has worked with Nolan as part of Zimmer's team and his sound is very familiar to Zimmer's.

Of course, everything is kept under wraps. I personally think Zimmer doesn't want to confirm his involvement so that he doesn't get asked about it. I mean the film starts filming in three months and we only have a date. Hans usually starts very early on Nolan's films that's what surprises me the most, if he really is in the dark with this one.I really can't see Nolan going back to Julyan. The guy's a TV composer at heart. He's not suited for these big epics Nolan keeps making. The last "major" movie he scored was The Cabin the Woods in 2012.
Trust me, I hope so !Stay calm folks, the name of the film has not yet been disclosed. When it announced, you see there ''Music by HANS ZIMMER''To be honest, Dunkirk kind of sounded like Nolan asking Hans to take inspiration from David Julyan anyway. In some ways.If Hans wouldn't score a Nolan project, just expect David Julyan, they are close friends you know...I certainly expect that Hans will score the Nolan movie, but we'll see. It's certainly possible that, like other directors Hans has worked with off and on, Nolan won't choose Zimmer for every project moving forward, but will still collaborate with him again on the right project. We'll see, I guess.
To me, Nolan and Zimmer have become inseparable so I'd be really surprised if he doesn't score the film. But if not Zimmer than who? Balfe? :D - Hope I didn't open the floodgates of hell...

Anyway, super excited and happy that Zimmer is scoring Dune. It was an obvious choice just glad it was confirmed - Would've also liked a collab with Wallfisch since BR2049 is one of my favorite scores.I hope Nolan and Hans haven't had a falling out.... I may not like every single choice they've made, but I always enjoy their collaborations and look forward to them.Apparently Zimmer didn't have a good time on Dunkirk (according to Nolan himself) but I never got the feeling that they weren't happy in the end about the score.WHAAAAAATTTTTT? Nolan's movie is not confirmed??? But Nolan-Zimmer is the rule, no? But why wouldn't Hans score Nolan's movie? Did something happen between them?Wait wait wait Nolan's movie for Hans is not confirmed... Far from it...
This is also releasing in 2020. How many movies are up for release now from 2019-2020, Lion King, Dark Phoenix, Wonder Woman 2, Top Gun - Maverick, SpongeBob, Nolan's movie, this, and that BBC show. We are gonna get so much stuff. I am very excited.YES!!!!!

So happy that Villeneuve is directing and Zimmer is attached to score. While I know it’s unlikely I hope this score is more than just sound design, there is so much opportunity here to write some kickass music.Fuck Yeah!!!Hans is scoring Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune'.

The movie will be released in 2020 with an all star cast. It's gonna be a busy 2 years for Zimmer. Hope we'll get some new great scores like in the older days or inventive scores that are awesome!!The stuff that didn't really do it in HZ Live for me were the "rockified" versions of No time For Caution and the Moody Bruce TDKR suite. Making those pieces sound like they did weakened their power, IMO. They were too guitar-and-drums heavy and I just preferred the originals. Otherwise, HZ Live was pretty good. There was some hyperbole in my comment about putting it to shame. But overall I definitely would rather have The World of Hans Zimmer approach.

Are you saying Gergeli suplied you a bootleg tape? Fine, let's hear the evidence now please - otherwise we might look at who you are and start to inspect a court case for defamation. I hope you have proof and we don't have to make you go to jail for perjury.

Edmund Meinerts2018-04-03 15:45:35
Perjury? I didn't know that posting on HZ.com was tantamount to swearing yourself in, or did I miss something in the fine print?

Notefornote is issuing a 1,000 CD limited edition of the score. They posted a clip on their facebook page showing an example of the quality of the sound.

Hybrid Soldier2018-04-01 13:00:17
Yeah, in fact I couldn't wait to get rid of that old horrible Perseverance CD... That new one will be ok.

Oscarilbo2018-04-02 16:05:16
Thanks for the heads up! It sounds freakin-tastic compared to the Perseverance release! that buying experience left a pretty bad taste in my mouth!

Oscarilbo2018-04-02 20:30:56
Ordered!
I now wonder how did they found a better source ?
Or should I ask, how in the hell did Perseverance got that awful source ?

Jack Sparrow2018-04-03 02:32:41
I can say that the source for the Perseverance release came from that fella Robin hired to produce it, Gergely? I once spoke to somebody about this and he told me that the source was a tape that may or may not have contained MP3 files.

I spoke to Robin about this years later. He shrugs and argues he couldn't have canceled the release so he released it. The new album from Note for Note is explained by Ford on FSM. It's tapes and a real digital source. Seems from listening to the samples its light years better. Deeper sound, definition. If anybody is to blame for the previous release it's that guy Gergely.

The quality is so bad! So bad! Dear God! Looks like they downloaded the bootleg version and made from it this cd. Is that even legal??

Evers reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-15 00:00:00
I agree with Nicolai... The sound quality is very, very bad.

Disappointing in spite of the beauty of the score...

Nicolai reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-12 00:00:00
it is a total shame this score found its way to an official release.
The SOUND quality is not even near at, what you usally expect from LIMITED EDTION official releases now-a-days.

@ adrian,
yes... it is way cooler to have an official album than a boot. But still I am so sad/upset that no real effort was put in to do a real good remaster of the score.

Instead the folks behind this release, excuses in the liner notes:
"This album was transferred from really crappy analog files. Although every effort was made to reduce anomalies inherent in these files, such as tape hiss or warble, some still persist."
Hey... WTF... if you don't have the right master-material, don't do a release then!!!

I'll stick with my 2 HZ tracks from the CAPITOL RECORDS release, whenever I am in the mood to listen to the awesome oscar nominated score for Rain Man.

Adrian reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-11 00:00:00
@ Cloud,

That's a shame... Rain Man deserved a good score!
But now you have an original disc with a booklet ;-) Thats cooler than a boot.
I wonder why Zimmer did not want to participate or even be consulted.

Well, I still want to buy it, as soon amazon releases it!

Adrian reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-10 00:00:00
@ Cloud,

So how does Rain Man sound? Is it like the End Credits that is on the OST disc? Or worse?

And has it more material than the bootleg around?

Per reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-10 00:00:00
I haven't received my copy of the CD yet, but I can pretty much guarantee you it's not even close to the quality of the 2 tracks on the old Capitol soundtrack release. Unfortunately.

As for the content on the CD, it's basically the same as the "bootleg", minus the other mix of the Smoke Alarm cue. I'm not sure which of the two are included on the CD though. (And one cue seem to be splitted in two tracks (or it was originally 2 cues...))

Anonymous reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-10 00:00:00
@ Per : How can you "pretty much guarantee" the quality of the sound: You haven't heard it yet. And by the way: either there is a guaranty or there is no guaranty. There is no such thing as a "pretty much guaranty" ;)

Cloud reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-10 00:00:00
The sound quality is pretty much the same as on the bootleg, which is absolutely terrible for an official release. It seems they upped the bass and volume a bit, but I can't really tell the difference between this and the boot. I thought the quality would be better, to be honest. Alas, a huge disappointment.

Cloud reply Replies: 0 || 2010-11-09 00:00:00
So I received my copy today and guess what's written on the back of the booklet: "This album was transferred from really crappy analog files. Although every effort was made to reduce anomalies inherent in these files, such as tape hiss or warble, some still persist." :D

Apparently they tried, but Hans and his studio were not interested in participating.

From what I understood no one ever talked to Hans about it anyway. They were going forward with the release and he didn't even know about it.

This is awesome! The first score of Zimmer that gets the special treatment. I love it!

Anonymous reply Replies: 0 || 2010-10-18 00:00:00
I wouldn't judge the sound quality by the website samples... I think if the sound was at all inferior they would have said so on the website so anyone who ordered would be aware.

Per reply Replies: 0 || 2010-10-18 00:00:00
Well, it's the complete score, more or less, as heard in the film anyway.

Unfortunately, due to Zimmer & co (according to Robin Esterhammer (Perseverance Records) in the FSM forum) "flat out refused" to work with them on the project, they only "...had access to a safety copy of the recording sessions.", meaning it doesn't have as good quality as it could, and should, have !

I would assume this to be from the same, or a very similar, source as the old unreleased (or 'bootleg' if you will) is from. I haven't heard the whole CD yet, of course, so this is based solely on the few samples available for listen.

I fear this might be the "guideline" of other older score Zimmer releases in the future too; A label manage to do a deal to release a score, but then no great source of the score is to be found, and only excists in the composer's hands, but he refuses to help, and it ends with them using a not-so-great backup tape copy of the score located on some desk someplace, or nothing is to be found, and the release won't happen at all :(

Would not surprise me if the Zimmer - "popularity" goes down a little after this ... it certainly did for me ! (Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about this release causing the Zimmer-popularity to drop, but the fact that he refuses to even help out on getting his older scores released.)

Nevertheless, a big thanks to Perseverance Records for doing this release. Remember, only 2000 copies available, so don't wait too long before you buy it ! :)

I'd say there's like 4 themes or sub-themes in Rain Man, Ele ! :)
