No more superhero film score for me, he said .... :DThe complete score is so amazing!! I saw on YouTube too.CD RELEASE????PosiblyA surprise reference to be sure, but a welcome one.
The same thing happened to me George@Michael Baker - I can’t be the only one who read that as Han Solo right?Yeah... Wait till CD 2 and I'm sure we'll get a much stronger idea of what's solo Hans in here.@Edmund<br>I wonder if this is one of those situations where the material in film is derived heavily from the suites, with everyone either arranging it or adding elements onto it. Just guessing of course, I’m sure we’ll get a clear picture once the bonus stuff gets released.<br><br>And apparently there is about 16 hours of music “lying around”, going off of what Hans mentioned in the Vi-Control forums."heavily influenced" indeed :D <br>I really love Amity and I love how the theme appears in several other cues:<br>Reckless which features an epic/action rendition <br>Insertion = a short quote at the beginning <br>Coda = another call back to the theme<br><br>Been listening to the score since I saw the film. Love it. Eagerly waiting for CD2. I wonder if it includes an extended version of the last 2 minutes of Insertion - INCREDIBLE.
I guess I should know better at this point but I'm still a little disappointed that there are no solo Hans cues. Although I suppose there could be some hidden inside the longer album tracks.Because it's heavily influenced by Henry Purcell, that's what Hans said :<br><br>"Dark Phoenix is all Henry Purcell... I felt the last few bars of “Dido’s Lament” with the endlessly descending line and the “Remember Me” perfect for the characters... less the tune, more the harmonic movement"Right. Hopefully the other missing stuff gets released on the 2nd CD though.why does Amity say (traditional)?Just rip it off the DVD....no biggie
All credits added for the OST, even though since it's long montages from lots of cues, it doesn't make THAT much sense... :)Which cues were written by Steve Jablonsky?me too!No piano. I believe it was mostly strings and had a small bit of the choir.Which instruments were used to play the love theme? Piano?<br>

From Den of Geek’s report on the advanced screening at NYCC:

“The music is audibly different from the more traditionally triumphant John Ottman theme in the past several X-films. Sounding in a single pass to my layman’s ear more than a bit like Interstellar, complete with a haunting ticking refrain that is more chorus here, Zimmer’s music could (and may) be recorded on an organ with the way it reaches with a rising sense of doom and uncertainty as the X-Men travel into space.”

I hope Zimmer keeps Ottman’s X-Theme, at least for continuity’s sake.

No way !

Jackman did perfect without it... If Hans could bring one thing back, it'd be Henry's Magneto theme ! :P

Normally I’m not a big fan of Ottman’s music, but I do think his X-Men theme is a home-fun. It would be great to hear Zimmer do his twist on it, although if TASM2 is anything to go by it is probably unlikely.

And yes, Jackman’s Magneto theme is awesome! I was disappointed that they ended up ditching it for DOFP...

Looking forward to it. I love the idea of a fusion between interstellar and a superhero score.

HunterTech2018-10-07 09:15:19
The First Class Magneto theme actually is in DOFP, even if it was a producer requested thing.

Anyway, I think that the X-Men series has had such a nice and varied history for their musical scores that adding Zimmer to the mix is fine by me. I'm not sure if it could beat Beltrami's Logan from last year, but it'll definitely add something different to main series.

I'd actually love for Powell's X3 theme to return, but I doubt they'd want to reference much from that film (even though DP kinda looks like an X3 remake so far). So with that, hearing Ottman's X theme one more time wouldn't hurt one bit. :D

I don't like when new composers disregard to music continuity. Hope that Zimmer will make some references to Ottmann's theme, like it was with James Horner's Spider-Man theme.

Mephariel2018-10-07 21:52:29
Zimmer made references to Horner's Spider-Man theme? Which cue?

Miralsice2018-10-07 22:53:44
I'm almost sure that I heard similar motives at the end of the film. I think this is "You're That Spider Guy" track, but I could be wrong.

Michael Kamen's score by X-Men more like classic & heroic, simply, I like X-Men theme too.
