The 79th Academy Award Winners
Gustavo Santaolalla won the Best Original Score Academy Award for his work on Babel. Congratulations to Gustavo as this is his second win after having won for “Brokeback Mountain” last year. The other nominees for the same category this year were Alexandre Desplat with “The Queen”, Javier Navarrete with “Pan’s Labyrinth”, Philip Glass with “Notes on a Scandal”, and Thomas Newman for “The Good German”.
The Oscar for Best Song went to Melissa Etheridge for “I Need to Wake Up” from An Inconvenient Truth.

Sure Demetris. Yet there were a bunch of scores this year who elevated the film and were far superior to Gustavo one :D
I guess the academy will get bored of this guy next year. I hope
Shame on you, Academy Music Branch! Interests all over.
In few words : it ‘s a scandal !!!!!
Well, the score to BABEL worked wonders in the film and it surely has some truly beautiful cues in it, like ‘Endless Flight’ for example. It might not be Oscar or award-material for sure, but that’s a wholly different matter. Score-wise, it’s simple and plain but as i said, it – at least – aided and elevated the film in a very large degree.
