“Like it or not, The Dark Knight is going to keep popping up in headlines all the way through to the Oscars in February, so just be prepared. This latest news is rather disappointing for those who were a fan of Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard’s score – that even I’d been strongly supporting since June. The executive committee of the Academy music branch has disqualified their score from Oscar consideration this year. This actually happened to their Batman Begins score in 2005 as well, so this isn’t the first time. The Academy’s reason behind the disqualification states that five names were listed as composers, and Zimmer and Howard were only credited for “more than 60%, but less than 70%” of the score.”

Hans had a busy year:6 different projects and not one will nominated for oscar.
why does it have to be just one person anyway? With two composers to be allowed nominations, why not 5 or 10. Makes no sense.
This has pissed me off to no end. It’s sad that they don’t award TALENT in Hollywood anymore. Boo, to them. And it does make ANY sense at all. They gave acknowledgment to the rest of the guys, and got screwed over it. Bull, I tell ya, bull! We all need to write, and tell them what a raw deal this is. We all know they would have won Best Score! Shame on Hollywood!
As i said before this is a sad thing Zimmer won the Accademy Award for The Lion King…and we know that Zimmer weren’t alone when composed it (Glennie Smith,Bruce Fowler,Lebo M,Mark Mancina,Richard Harvey etc etc)

It’s just a proof, the oscars doesn’t care about music, its efficacity on a film or other elements which makes a director choose a composer (or a team of…) ; Oscars want just a name ! In my opinion, anyway, they don’t have any film music culture or music culture at all. I can’t understand why "the mission" (e. morricone), "the Purple Color" (Quincy Jones & co.), or Gladiator (H. Zimmer & co.) didn’t have the oscar. The Story shows the academy was wrong and this recompense (those musics are much more known than the oscarised one) is just one more to add on a film, not the wonderful honor a composer can wait for. Better a Ghent Film festival for that, they maybe know better what they’re talking about !
