Everything is as the director wants it… if its "awkward" silence, or old songs, or the new score… most of the times the director doesn't try to satisfy film score fans as his priority.
Eh, yeah, there can be a 20 minute score. I mean, I don't REALLY care. I just look forward to more of Hans' music when he's writing it, and it's a bit disappointing with scores like this one where we won't get much new music. Who knows! Maybe it'll be 20 minutes of really awesome music. Idk. Either way, having 20 minutes almost guarantees there won't be any kind of musical arc to this score.
And yeah, I get all the "it needs to serve the film" stuff. I pretty much agree with Edmund and Ds, though.
I agree that some films don't need more than 20 minutes. But to be honest, aside from auteuristic filmmaking with a lot of embarassing silences, most films with short scores just happen to use a lot of songs. No idea if it's the case of Widows, though. But if it's indeed the case, I'd agree that it's a pity to use pre-existing songs while you can have Zimmer himself creating awesome new music.
I don't get the idea that you can't get Zimmer if you only want 20 minutes of music. If you like someone's style and you two collaborated together well, why not? The questions is, why would you get someone else unless you think the music is not going to work. Money is obviously not an issue since the studio approved it.
Soundtrack album will be released on 21st of November. There will be score & songs on the album
There's a CD (pre-order) at amazon by Milan! :
