Writing the score for "Cherry" was at once inspiring, obsessive, unpredictable, joyful and difficult. As a composer of music, you can only aspire to match the quality of the film-making presented to you. It follows that the greatest debt of gratitude is owed to Joe and Anthony Russo, whose creative vision and aesthetic bravery were ever-present during the entire making of this film. Their decision to take on this project allowed me to compose what may be my most unusual and exploratory score.
I sincerly hope that any listener to this album can appreciate the various musical themes and ideas which this film inspired. Even without the images, it can be hoped that much of the distinctive narrative of "Cherry" can still be conjured and enjoyed.
I would like to extent a special thanks to Jack Dolman and Alex Belcher, whose contributions and advice were truly indispensable.
Lastly, I would like to dedicate this album to my dear sister, Ellie, who died of a brain aneurysm on Sep 19th, 2020. Without her unbending belief and encouragement, I may never have been in a position to compose this music at all.
