So nice to see a modern hero use the themes of Edward Elgar 💕

I know it won’t happen, but I sure as hell wish Hans would score The Odssey. It’s fantasy, but it could be an awesome return to his historic epic sound.

      Damn it, The Odyssey* lol

Stephane, can you specify those 2 tracks:
    Tommy v8.00
    Long Note Harmonics v.12.7…

Are those – 2nd part of “The Mole” and 2nd part of “Regimental Brothers”?… Or those ones are separate suites?..

It’s funny looking back at this page and seeing so many people that were apprehensive about Ludwig taking over as Nolan’s new guy and now Ludwig is the top dog in Hollywood. Needless to say he’s knocked it out of the park on both of his Nolan projects and he’s here to stay, Ludwig is the GOAT!!

I think Ludwig really was the perfect choice for TENET, I honestly don’t think Hans could’ve done a better job on that film, Ludwig wrote the perfect score for it and it’s so ingrained into the identity of the film for me. Oppenheimer is a bit more straight forward, I love the score so much but it’s a movie I think Hans could’ve also scored and did just as good of a job on. I’m totally happy with Nolan going with Ludwig and Hans staying with Denis, I think they’re both great pairings and we’ll get a ton of great music out of it

I don’t really agree KEM, but I won’t argue because I don’t want to put Ludwig down to elevate Hans. That’s just not how things work.

I’ve always wondered what a Zimmer Tenet score would’ve been like. It’s such a crazy movie with a lot of potential for experimentation (I wonder how he would’ve approached inverted music?!). But anyway, Ludwig did such a spectacular job & it’s absolutely insane that he didn’t get award recognition for it. That said I believe most, if not all, Nolan-film scores were robbed when it comes to awards and I’m glad Ludwig is sweeping this award season because he most definitely deserves it.

Totally not interested in Tenet. Or Dunkirk. Dudes – this is not music. It is sound design. Go and wank off at the Ben Burtt fan sites. HZ is a melodic genius which is why I am here. When he does his job well, like WW84 and Creator, he is still the legend I love. When he fucks up film music for the next generation to ‘be cool’ HZ is a terrible terrible influence.

And that is when the nobodies take over and replicate that non-sense sound everywhere. That is why we are where we are – new film music is pointless. It is soulless corporate shit. And not only does that mean that the Balfe’s off this world are on the brink of extinction with AI but music is going extreme with very aggressively atonal work like Levi etc.

And that is why HZ is so aggressive with invention. Balfe sounds like your dad from 1994.

Tell me one good new score that stands up to any pre-2010s?

I only really like sound design scores, way more interesting to me
