Meh.
As a big fan of the books I have to say that Djawadi really didn’t (or doesn’t have the ability to) live up to the potential that this incredibly intricate storyline offers – dozens of subplots, intriguing characters, it’s a really awesome story and the series did it full justice in every aspect EXCEPT for this underwhelming music.
To my ears Djawadi is one of the least impressive composers to come out from under Hans Zimmer’s wing. Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rabin, Jablonsky, Mancina, Jackman, Orvarsson, Balfe, Rupert Gregson-Williams, are all much better. I wish one of them could have had this incredible opportunity.
That said, the main theme isn’t actually too bad. Kind of catchy. But I hate the synthy sound of the string section and in general it’s really underplayed. Thank God the series is so strong it barely even needs a score ;)
