Because the film was finished by early 2010 to be released in March… It was canceled last minute (but they forgot to cancel the soundtrack release for a while, which I bought back then ! :D) and the film had some reshoots and major changes done. So Atli came back to rewrite “less horrific more epic” new cues to match with the new version of the film, which was released in January 2011.

isn’t that what hppened for wolfman? paul haslinger hired and it was too “gotchic” or “spooky” or something then elfman was hired and some of haslinger’s score ended up in the film anyway?
Nothing from Haslinger ended in the movie
Yeah you’re talking about straight replacement. In the case of Season Of The Witch, it’s the same composer having to rework his own score, nothing so special.
