@Stephane – what is the process usually like to get a score like this released by LaLaLand? I’ve heard there are a lot of legal challenges – is that the biggest obstacle? It just seems like there is such a demand for expanded releases of HZ scores. What are the chances of more of the “less popular” scores getting the same treatment (e.g. Black Hawk Down, Hannibal, Pearl Harbor, King Arthur, etc.)

    • Stéphane H. October 11, 2022 at 8:29 pm - Reply

“Less popular” ? Your list sounds more like the “most popular” though ! :D

The labels have the interest, no questions about that, the problem is usually what studios owns the music. They are in the end the people letting this happen (or not).

Haha, well, in a perfect world, “more popular” would be The Dark Knight Trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean, Last Samurai, Kung Fu Panda, for example – but any HZ score is popular really!
I guess what baffles me is going through Lalaland’s catalogue and seeing score releases for obscure movies and TV shows, and it makes me wonder why that doesn’t happen so often with HZ – especially when there his music is so profitable. It seems like a no-brainer for a studio to make more money.
But anyway, thanks for your contributions to making some of these releases happen! Hopefully more scores get released in the future!

You also have to take into account what I explained many times : where the score was recorded & when. To make it simple UK (or Europe) ? Anytime ? => fine. But US ? post 2005 ? Very difficult to deal with…

What orchestra was used for this?

    • Stéphane H. October 11, 2022 at 8:07 pm - Reply

Orchestras don’t necessarly have “group names” in the UK like in the US. So probably the same musicians you’ll find on everything recorded for film scores at Air Studios & Abbey Road at that time ! :)
